On your Daily Detroit, we went out to one of Detroit's historic parks, Palmer Park, to learn about the transformation that has been underway over the last few years. Palmer Park Revitalization: Palmer Park has undergone significant changes, becoming a cornerstone of community benefit through infrastructure and natural enhancements. Jer takes us through the historical significance of this 281-acre park and its transformation journey. Located between Six Mile and Seven Mile on Woodward, this park is near the site of America's first concrete road, adding to its rich history. Interview with Stacy Varner: I sat down in the park with Stacy Varner, President of People for Palmer Park, to discuss the ongoing projects and the long-term master plan for the park. From the restoration of Lake Francis to the maintenance of Wither Woods, Stacy highlights the community-driven efforts to make Palmer Park a sustainable and enjoyable space for all. Environmental Efforts with Bobby Westerby: Next, we talk to Bobbi Westerby, CEO and President of Environmental Consulting and Technology (ECT), about the volunteer and design initiatives aimed at enhancing Palmer Park. Bobby shares insights into the environmental consulting field and the specific projects ECT has undertaken to restore and beautify the park. Happy Tuesday and welcome to your all-local news podcast, Daily Detroit. Fletcher Sharpe kicks off talking about the Olympics, especially the electric performances from Team USA's basketball stars like LeBron James and Stephen Curry. They share amusing anecdotes about foreign sports broadcasts, highlighting the unique passion and energy that different languages bring to the games. The conversation then shifts to some concerning local news. Stellantis is laying off up to 2,450 workers at their Warren truck plant, reducing shifts and discontinuing the Ram 1500 Classic. Jer and Fletcher discuss the broader implications for the local economy and the challenges facing Stellantis, including their lack of investment in R&D and declining sales across multiple brands. In state politics, the debate over ending the tipped minimum wage in Michigan heats up. Despite a ruling from the Michigan Supreme Court, some Democrats are expressing concerns about the economic impact. Fletcher shares his strong opinions against the tipped minimum wage, emphasizing the need for a fair, flat wage for service workers. On a brighter note, the East Warren Public Market in Detroit recently broke ground. The $5.5 million project will feature a grocery store, farmers market, retail spaces, and more, aimed at supporting local entrepreneurs. Jer and Fletcher discuss the positive impact such projects can have on communities. However, skepticism surrounds the long-stalled Perfecting Church project at Seven Mile and Woodward. Despite recent zoning approvals, Jer and Fletcher remain doubtful about its completion, given its lengthy history of delays. In sports, Fletcher shares a fun encounter with a listener who shares his cautious optimism about the Detroit Lions. They discuss the team's preseason performance and the importance of managing expectations. The episode wraps up with a listener question about Detroit City FC. Despite a new coach, the team struggles to score goals and secure wins. Is it time for a reset on the field? Some good news for drivers and businesses in Macomb County as a major road construction project has wrapped up. WWJ's Charlie Langton has more. (Credit: WWJ) Detroit police are investigating an early morning double shooting on the city's eastside. One man died at a home on Lappin Street near Hayes and Seven Mile. A second man was taken to the hospital and is listed in critical condition.
Robin Runyan from Urbanize Detroit joins us today to give a bit of an update on development stories around town and answer a listener question. Can the Belle Isle Boathouse be saved? We discuss. We talk about what could be Detroit's icon of incompletion, the long-stalled Perfecting Church project at Seven Mile and Woodward. There's a new deal to get it going, but community (and our) skepticism after 20 years of lack of progress is high. A pair of buildings in Corktown that have sat vacant for years have been sold, raising hopes they'd be redeveloped. Robin shares the details and we discuss. A new affordable housing project kicks off in Southwest Detroit on Michigan Avenue. Robin has three big development themes for 2023. We get into them and why they matter. If you're a listener who comes in from out of town, how do you get from the airport now to wherever you're going? And she answers a listener question. We will unpack the very unconventional style of Jesus witnessing to non-believers, who were very much doubting and struggling with faith. If you ever feel over your head or under-qualified when it comes to telling people about eternity, death, salvation, etc. know that is a normal feeling! But what Jesus models to us in scripture is a very different and refreshing way to boldly share our faith with others without being weird.

Let's leave the parlous state of world golf behind for a while and get back to talking one of our favourite topics here on SOG: course architecture. On Ep 124 Geoff Shackelford, Mike Clayton and Rod Morri welcome Mike Devries and Mat Goggin for an update on the highly anticipated Seven Mile Beach project in Hobart, Tasmania. For those playing the drinking game Ep 124 will be disappointing...you can leave the bottle opener in the drawer as there's not a single mention of distance (or even LIV Golf!)

The Northern NSW region has a deep brewing history...it's the birthplace of a little brewery called Stone and Wood, you might have heard it? But a few minutes south of that brewery, in Balina, is another one that has now been kicking around for about 4 or 5 years, Seven Mile Brewing…have you heard of that one?Started by a father and son duo in 2017, this is a truly family-run brewery, which sounds totally awesome, buuuut may have also been a bit tricky at times...we get to that! This is a great chat with Matt, where he opens up about how Stone & Wood came to his rescue one time, what he learned from his time with Dave Padden, how 4 Pines helped him understand the business, and some of the personal challenges he has faced along the way.A ripper of a chat!Check Out Seven Mile's Beers HereWant to help spread the craft beer gospel?Follow me on Instagram, Facebook, or YouTubeRate, Review and Subscribe on Apple Podcasts or Spotify...click the link on your phone and scroll to the bottomOr Follow/Subscribe on your favourite podcast player

One of the most popular tourist destinations in the Caribbean, Jamaica has much more to offer than most Caribbean islands. When thinking of an all-inclusive vacation, many think of only relaxing on the beach. While Jamaica has some of the best resorts in the world with resorts such as Sandals Negril & Couples Swept Away, there is so much more to Jamaica than incredible beachside resorts. Visitors to Jamaica can enjoy some of the best coffee in the world at the Blue Mountains, visit the historic city of Kingston, or climb up the river of Dunn's River Falls. Better yet, Jamaica has some of the most popular cuisines in the Caribbean with classic dishes like Jerk Chicken and Jamaican Patties.
