THE "LET'S LISTEN" VAPORWAVE PODCAST. Vaporwave is an art aesthetic that embodies the anxiety, disillusionment, and nihilism of the modern world. In music form, vaporwave dives deep into these unconscious anxieties, manifesting sounds from past decades - warping them, manipulating them, and summoning the ghost of the good times that were promised by modern capitalism, but never came. Vaporwave is an expression of the pains of the collective modern unconscious, taking the form of heroin-level escapism, ecstasy-inducing pop music, or dystopian ambient worlds. Because of its internet-based nature, its aesthetics have evolved so rapidly, further reflecting the chaotic subconscious of the modern mind.Vaporwave captures the modern unconscious of humans raised by the internet succinctly, and understanding this art form matters. In each episode, we listen to tracks that make up genre and give our thoughts, analysis, emotions, and commentary on them. Let's set sail on the Virtual Ocean. And now, for today’s episode. When it comes to haunted things, rarely do they frighten us with harshness and jumpscares in the way that Hollywood movies have shown us.What make something creepy is a strange element of gentleness. When the unknown peers into us, it does so in a state of softness. When death stalks its prey, it moves in silence… In stillness.Today is our halloween special, and we have one thing on our minds: death. The album we’ve chosen for this year’s special is “Even The Gods May Cry”, by Origami Girl, a female asian vaporwave producer who also goes by the alias eightxnights. You can find her on both the dream catalogue and asura revolver music labels. This album takes on a hardvapour sound, infused with the occult-themed electronic music of Witch house. This album is a 45 minute rave set in the underground caverns of a gothic mansion in hell. A perfect experience to get you in the mood for the spooky season.Set sail with us for Origami Girl’s “Even The Gods May Cry.”

In face of the Covid-19 Pandemic, the teens are home and the college kids have returned. The nest is full and challenges to clash and opportunities for connection keep unfolding. In this episode, Dr. John Duffy, clinical psychologist, best-selling author, parenting and relationship expert, addresses the issues many are facing: How do parents cope with their kids' emotional reactions, day-to-day needs, their own jobs and their own relationship? How do teens cope when rites of passage have been canceled and being with peers happens only online? Can college kids psychologically go home again? How do they connect with family while maintaining their emerging victories of independence? What are the expectations, the realities and the memories to take away as individuals and family members face this unimaginable event in their lives?

Decisions about dueling directives- who will lead us into the future?
Episode 113 I planned on being back sooner but here I am with a new episode and an awesome guest @DergoBJ My intention for this conversation was to explore where we put ourselves, and keep ourselves. During this global pandemic we are asked to shelter in place for our health and safety. That requirement inspired the name of this episode and thought regarding how we shelter ourselves out of fear of the outcome if and when exposed. We could be hiding something beautiful but if we don't define it that way it stays hidden. We may have the answer but if we are not comfortable with the idea of sharing it remains a secret. We can have beautiful relationships but if we aren't sure how our feelings will be perceived in their entirety we withhold them. Just a few examples of the many ways we can be " Sheltered in Place". Me and my guest have an incredible thought provoking conversation that goes beyond my intention of the show and does more than I could even imagine. So take your time and listen. While this is a longer episode it is a great episode all the same.
