Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises! (Psalm 98:4). In this Adventures in Lutheranism episode, Rachel shares her recent experience joining a new-to-her church choir.   Beginning with a brief foray into the history of sacred choral music — from ancient Greece to Garrison Keillor and beyond — she then examines the physical and mental health benefits of singing in groups and ponders the long decline of church choirs (even as choral singing in general has been on the rise). She invites Sarah and Erin to relate their own experiences with church choirs before sharing her personal choral history up to the present day. At the end of the episode, she airs interviews with each of her four children, who confirm that church choir is absolutely for all ages.   Sources cited in this episode include:   Choir - Wikipedia  Why do Lutherans Sing? Have you ever heard someone swear in church? What did you do?   Patrick Madrid dives into a heated choir issue! Michelle from Brunswick, Georgia, calls in with a unique problem: her small church choir members are dropping profanities during practice!    Michelle's Dilemma: Michelle, the new choir leader, is horrified to hear profanity in front of the Blessed Sacrament. She's unsure how to handle it without causing more disruption.   Patrick's Bold Advice: Confront them immediately! Tell them: "Stop using profanity in the Lord's house, or you're out!" No sugarcoating, no hesitation.   Be Firm: Patrick insists on standing firm, even if it bruises some feelings. "You're like the good shepherd. Smack the wolf with your staff!"  Figuratively, of course!   Outcome: Michelle feels empowered to take charge. With Patrick's advice, she's ready to handle this challenge and maintain the sanctity of their practice space.   Takeaway: "Bad behavior has no place in church, especially profanity." Sometimes, a direct approach is necessary to uphold respect and reverence in sacred spaces.

Contact AmyIt. Is. Finished53 Who has believed our message?     To whom has the Lord revealed his powerful arm? 2 My servant grew up in the Lord's presence like a tender green shoot,     like a root in dry ground. There was nothing beautiful or majestic about his appearance,     nothing to attract us to him. 3 He was despised and rejected—     a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way.     He was despised, and we did not care.4 Yet it was our weaknesses he carried;     it was our sorrows[a] that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God,     a punishment for his own sins! 5 But he was pierced for our rebellion,     crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole.     He was whipped so we could be healed. 6 All of us, like sheep, have strayed away.     We have left God's paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him     the sins of us all.7 He was oppressed and treated harshly,     yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter.     And as a sheep is silent before the shearers,     he did not open his mouth. 8 Unjustly condemned,     he was led away.[b] No one cared that he died without descendants,     that his life was cut short in midstream.[c] But he was struck down     for the rebellion of my people. 9 He had done no wrong     and had never deceived anyone. But he was buried like a criminal;     he was put in a rich man's grave.10 But it was the Lord's good plan to crush him     and cause him grief. Yet when his life is made an offering for sin,     he will have many descendants. He will enjoy a long life,     and the Lord's good plan will prosper in his hands. 11 When he sees all that is accomplished by his anguish,     he will be satisfied. And because of his experience,     my righteous servant will make it possible for many to be counted righteous,     for he will bear all their sins. 12 I will give him the honors of a victorious soldier,     because he exposed himself to death. He was counted among the rebels.     He bore the sins of many and interceded for rebels. His voice broke my silent grief. I had no idea how to answer his question“How?” I looked up from staring at the rolling credits, the room dimly lit as Mel Gibson's masterpiece; the passion of Christ ended. John's question caught me off, guard.I didn't know how to answer his question. Let't talk about Jesus. You ARE:SEEN KNOWN HEARD LOVED VALUED

“What Is Religious Trauma? Religious trauma can stem from spiritual abuse, can impact individuals differently, and can have a devastating effect on someone's self-esteem, sense of self-worth, and identity. Religion can impact the way that we see the world, and it can be easy to deny the existence of problems in the face of continual optimism and faith that a higher power will fix any challenges encountered, but this toxic positivity can lead to lasting harm. Religious trauma can lead to an individual believing that they are inherently bad or condemned (especially if they've experienced purity culture)—even after they have left the religion and their previously held beliefs.” I was raped in private places and when no one was seen looking, public places. By the way, the majority of the statutory rapists in my adolescence who raped me were black women. I have a positive view of black women and black men due to my daily self-healing work. I naturally embrace philogyny and philandry and a fondness for gender and sexual diversity! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/antonio-myers4/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/antonio-myers4/support
