The days of ten in the month of Dhul-hijjah (12th month of the Hijri calendar)

popular Wiki of the Day

pWotD Episode 2534: Eid al-Fitr Welcome to popular Wiki of the Day where we read the summary of a popular Wikipedia page every day. With 190,785 views on Tuesday, 9 April 2024 our article of the day is Eid al-Fitr.Eid al-Fitr ( EED əl FIT-ər, -rə; Arabic: عيد الفطر, romanized: ʿĪd al-Fiṭr, IPA: [ʕiːd al ˈfɪtˤr], lit. 'Holiday of Breaking the Fast') is the earlier of the two official holidays celebrated within Islam (the other being Eid al-Adha). Eid al-Fitr is celebrated by Muslims worldwide because it marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan. Eid al-Fitr falls on the first day of Shawwal in the Islamic calendar; this does not always fall on the same Gregorian day, as the start of any lunar Hijri month varies based on when the new moon is sighted by local religious authorities. The holiday is known under various other names in different languages and countries around the world. The day is also called "Lesser Eid" (Arabic: العيد الصغير, romanized: al-ʿĪd al-Ṣaghīr), or simply Eid. Eid al-Fitr has a particular salat (Islamic prayer) that consists of two rakats (units) generally performed in an open field or large hall. It may only be performed in congregation (jamāʿat) and features seven additional Takbirs (raising of the hands to the ears while saying "Allāhu ʾAkbar", meaning "God is the greatest") in the Hanafi school of Sunni Islam: three at the start of the first rakat and three just before rukūʿ in the second rakat. Other Sunni schools usually have 12 Takbirs, similarly split in groups of seven and five. In Shia Islam, the salat has six Takbirs in the first rakat at the end of qira'a, before rukūʿ, and five in the second. Depending on the juristic opinion of the locality, this salat is either farḍ (فرض, obligatory), mustaḥabb (strongly recommended) or mandūb (مندوب, preferable). After the salat, Muslims celebrate the Eid al-Fitr in various ways with food ("Eid cuisine") being a central theme, which also gives the holiday the nickname "Sweet Eid" or "Sugar Feast".This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:23 UTC on Wednesday, 10 April 2024.For the full current version of the article, see Eid al-Fitr on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm Olivia Neural.

In Episode 110, Maria Medvedeva, Vice President, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain for MasterCard joins to discuss the company's KSA strategy, fintech, payments, innovation, and her experiences living and working in a changing and evolving Saudi Arabia. Maria, based in Riyadh with her family, is responsible for Mastercard's growth strategy and delivering innovative payment experiences for consumers and merchants. Before the discussion with Maria, the hosts discuss Richard's One Big Thing, which is Saudi Arabia's recent adoption of the Gregorian calendar for all official business going forward. Saudi Arabia has approved the use of the Gregorian calendar for all official dealings, except those related to the provisions of Islamic Shariah where the calculation of periods will continue to be based on the Hijri calendar. The Kingdom has traditionally prioritized the Hijri calendar with the Gregorian used as a secondary measure. However, some official and legal activities had already been aligned with the Gregorian calendar before Tuesday's ruling. Then the host discuss Lucien's One Big Thing, which is the announcement of key details surrounding Neom's new destination, Leyja. The mountainous wellness resort joins Trojena and Sindalah as tourism locations for Neom, and new photos and a video released of the designs of the area are fascinating. One of the details announced this week is that Habitas, the luxury hotel management company who Lucien notes has created a masterpiece experience in Al Ula, having recently stayed at that resort. Habitas Neom will likely be something for many people's bucket list, when completed. The hosts conclude as always with Yallah! 6 top storylines on Saudi Arabia to get you up to speed heading into the weekend.

This lesson ustadh covered the hadith of The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Command your children to pray when they become seven years old, and beat them for it (prayer) when they become ten years old; and arrange their beds (to sleep) separately. To act upon this hadith the following condition must be met: • The child must reach be the age in the Hijri calendar rather than the Gregorian calendar. • The mental capacity of the child must be in line with their actual age so therefore if the child is showing that his mental capacity is much younger. Then it must not be beaten the child. • The child is not beaten for every single thing that he does wrong • The child is not beaten for the sake of bringing pain to him but rather to show how great his act is of leaving their salah • The beating doesn't happen repeatedly but rather only in term of in need. • The beating must not be for the sake causing pain or the breaking the skin. • It must not be the first act of disciplining the child so if you know the is other alternative than it must be used. • This disciplining of the child must be done immediately after the leaving of the first salah and not leave it off until the child leaves off one salah after another. • This is done by both of the parents. • Both parents must lead by example and not follow the false premise of “do what I say and don't do what I do”

Following several weeks of amazing special guests on the program (with many more to come in the weeks and months ahead) the hosts fly solo this week and discuss some of the biggest storylines and topics on Saudi Arabia this week. First, the hosts discuss Richard's one big thing this week, the Islamic new year. Muslims around the world observe and celebrate the Islamic New Year, also called the Hijri New Year, which marks the beginning of a new lunar Hijri year. The Islamic year is several days shorter than the Gregorian calendar, so its first day changes every year. Then the hosts discuss Lucien's one big thing, a global heat wave that has areas of the Middle East breaking records. On July 16, 2023, Persian Gulf International Airport in Iran reported a heat index of 152°F (66.7°C). In Riyadh this week, high temps are hovering around 115 degrees or so, which is about 46 degrees celsius. Bediuzzaman Said Nursi (1878-1960 C.E., 1295-1379 Hijri) or Ustadh Nursi, as his followers refer to him, was a great scholar, gnostic, and saint of the fourteenth century of the Islamic calendar. He struggled his entire life to understand, implement, teach, and uphold the message of the Qur'an and the Prophetic example. His unshakable certainty in the truths of faith provided a bastion of refuge and hope for Muslims in the late Ottoman Empire and republican Turkey at times of calamitous defeats and moral collapse that sealed the end of the Ottoman Caliphate. Today, the treasure of knowledge he left behind, the Risale-i Nur, continues to teach and inspire believers all around the world. This episode is based on the brief introduction to Bediuzzaman Said Nursi's life and teachings as provided on the Reflections-rn.org website. Read and interpreted by Mustafa Tuna.
