Send us a textKatie and Bridget go to the Coco Bongo Club as they re-watch a very nostalgic movie: The Mask! Come along to Edge City (DON'T WORRY THIS MOVIE IS RATED PG!) where we meet Stanley Ipkiss, a grown man with stable income, a loving dog, and nice housing who is considered a "loser" because he "can't get a date"... Yup, what a loser! When he finds a mask floating in the city's toxic river he puts it on only to then transform into a chaotic cartoon character of a horny man. You thought that was crazy? Don't worry, we've also got the mob in this PG movie! Led by gangster Dorian who's out to rob banks, murder people, and possibly blow up his girlfriend Tina as well as his club (?). When Stanley's shenanigans get him wrapped up in all things felonies, it's up to The Mask (and arguably his dog Milo - who deserves a Dog-Oscar/Doscar) to save the day! Will Stanley be able to avoid jail time and get to make out with Tina? Is he also Cuban Pete, the king of the Rumba Beat!? Where he plays the maracas and goes Chick-Chicky-Boom Chick-Chicky-Boom!?! Released in 1994, it stars Jim Carrey, Cameron Diaz, Peter Riegert, Peter Greene, Amy Yasbeck, and Richard Jeni.
SOMEBODY....STOP HIM!!! Of course we're referring to Stanley Ipkiss played by Jim Carrey once he puts on that mask, the titular mask for this Summer '94 blockbuster smash which was based on a graphic novel of the same name. Directed by Chuck Russell (Eraser) this was released amidst a breakout year for Carrey, smack between blockbusters Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Dumb and Dumber. But THIS was the one where he got to stretch a bit....LITERALLY. :) Carrey plays a mild-mannered banker who one night finds a mysterious mask in the dock of the fictious Edge City where he lives. He soon finds out that once he puts on that mask at night, it transform him into a cartoonishly green party animal who can sing, dance, and do impressions with the best of them! Also starring in this comic book adapted comedy is Peter Greene, Peter Riegert, and in her big screen debut Cameron Diaz. It's time to P-A-R-T-Y.....WHY? Because he's GOTTA!!! ;) Host: Geoff GershonEdited By Ella GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a texthttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Jim Carrey , in full James Eugene Carrey, (born January 17, 1962, New Market, Ontario, Canada), Canadian American comedian who established himself as a leading comedic actor with a series of over-the-top performances and who won plaudits for his more-serious portrayals as his career progressed. While living in America, he struggled to make money during the first few years and almost gave up. In an interview, Carrey states that he would drive to the top of Mulholland Drive in LA every night, and visualize what he wanted for himself as an actor. In 1992, Carrey wrote a check to himself for 10 million dollars._______________James Eugene "Jim" Carrey is a Canadian-American actor, comedian, singer and writer. He has received two Golden Globe Awards and has also been nominated on four occasions.Carrey began stand-up comedy in 1979, performing at Yuk Yuk's in Toronto, Ontario. After gaining prominence in 1981, he began working at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles where he was soon noticed by comedian Rodney Dangerfield, who immediately signed him to open his tour performances.Carrey, long interested in film and television, developed a close friendship with comedian Damon Wayans, which landed him a role in the sketch comedy hit In Living Color, in which he portrayed various characters during the show's 1990 season. Having had little success in television movies and several low-budget films, Carrey was cast as the title character in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective which premiered in February, 1994, making more than $72 million domestically. The film spawned a sequel, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1995), in which he reprised the role of Ventura.High profile roles followed when he was cast as Stanley Ipkiss in The Mask (1994) for which he gained a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy, and as Lloyd Christmas in the comedy film Dumb and Dumber (1994). Between 1996 and 1999, Carrey continued his success after earning lead roles in several highly popular films including The Cable Guy (1996), Liar Liar (1997), in which he was nominated for another Golden Globe Award and in the critically acclaimed films The Truman Show and Man on the Moon, in 1998 and 1999, respectively. Both films earned Carrey Golden Globe awards. Since earning both awards — the only two in his three-decade career— Carrey continued to star in comedy films, including How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) where he played the title character, Bruce Almighty (2003) where he portrayed the role of unlucky TV reporter Bruce Nolan, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004), Fun with Dick and Jane (2005), Yes Man (2008), and A Christmas Carol (2009).Carrey has also taken on more serious roles including Joel Barish in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) alongside Kate Winslet and Kirsten Dunst, which earned him another Golden Globe nomination, and Steven Jay Russell in I Love You Phillip Morris (2009) alongside Ewan McGregor. Steven Geekface (So Geeked About Movies) and Kelechi Ehenulo (Confessions From A Geek Mind, Film Stories, VultureHound Magazine) return to Flixwatcher remotely to review Steven's choice The Mask. The Mask is a 1994 comedy starring Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz in her debut role. Carrey plays Stanley Ipkiss, a hapless bank clerk who lives a very average and unremarkable life. Until he finds a magical mask which transforms him into a rubbery green-faced cartoonish alter ego. Acting as a sort of superhero, he begins to use his new found powers for fighting crime and general silliness. The Mask was one of three films starring Carrey that came out in 1994 (Ace Ventura and Dumber and Dumber) and was the most successful commercially and critically. It also launched the career of Diaz. It's mixture of wacky visuals and quotable lines made it a huge hit for cinema kids of the 1990s too. Scores for The Mask from Steven, Kelechi and Kobi were strong on recommendability, less high from Helen though (not sad Jim Carrey enough). When combined with lower scores in the other other categories gave an overall rating of 3.52. S-ssss-ssss-sssss-smokin! For a movie as irreverent as this week's film, our conversation about it gets just as irreverent. But don't worry, we still think that this film is very relevant. The Mask is rated PG-13 and was released July 28, 1994. The movie features the talents of Jim Carry as Stanley Ipkiss, Cameron Diaz as Tina Carlyle, Peter Riegert as Lt. Mitch Kellaway, Peter Greene as Dorian, Richard Jeni as Charlie Schumaker, and Amy Yasbeck as Peggy Brandt. The bellow links are from the videos that where reference in the podcast. Welcome to the Munsons at the Movies Podcast. Each episode we delve into the filmography and impact of a randomly selected actor. For the much anticipated episode 50, we welcome Warren back from mini-retirement to explore the career of Jim Carrey. Best known for his roles as Ace Ventura, Stanley Ipkiss in The Mask (1994), and Joel in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004), Carrey is undoubtedly one of the best comedic performers of our generation. Joined once again by Mike Rodmaker, we discuss our go-to Carrey films/performances, Carrey's comedic influences, his random friendships with Tupac & Stephen Hawking, his unreal run of movies from 1994-2003, his 4 Razzie nominations, and his humble origins as a stand-up comedian in Canada. Where does Carrey rank on the Munson Meter? Listen to find out.
Si hay una peli icónica en la filmografía de Jim Carrey es, sin duda, La Máscara (1994). Todos recordamos su aspecto, su carácter burlón y la capacidad de hacernos reír acaparando nuestra atención cada vez que está en pantalla. Jim Carrey is at it again y'all, but this time he's doing it in style with a green mask and a yellow zoot suit as Katie and Brad take a look back at 1994's The Mask. Starring Jim Carrey and introducing Cameron Diaz, The Mask tells the story of a down on his luck good guy, Stanley Ipkiss, whose life changes when he finds a magical mask that gives him super powers. Jim Carrey may be a comedic genius and the kids loved him in 1994, but is his performance still a spicy meat-a-ball? In this episode of In Search of the Crystal Skull, Patricia and Arun discuss about the 1994 The Mask based on the Dark Horse comic book series of the same name starring Jim Carrrey, Cameron Diaz, Peter Greene, Peter Riegart, Jim Doughan, Amy Yasbeck, Orestes Matacena, Ben Stein, and Richard Jeni. The story is about a man named Stanley Ipkiss who lives a mundane life working as a bank clerk in a city filled with crime called Edge City. When he found a mask by the bay, he learns that it was created by the Norse God Loki giving Stanley the trouble making, jokes spewing, and confident persona simply called The Mask. The Mask steals money from the bank that Stanley works on and flirts with the girlfriend of one of the members from the Mafia named Dorian Tyrell. Dorian finds out that The Mask is Stanley and tries to threaten him to give him the mask so that he could take over Edge City. Meanwhile, two police officers named Lt. Kellaway and Detective Doyle are searching for The Mask after robbing the bank and stealing all of the money. When the film premiered, it made $351 million dollars out of a $23 million dollar budget. It had received mixed reviews from critics with Roger Ebert stating that while Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz's performances were great and its goofy presentation worked, everything else missed the mark. Comic book fans disliked the movie due to changing the tone of being dark from the comics to a silly cartoon. It currently has a 77% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Since then, it has been beloved by people who grew up with the film mostly due to Jim Carrey's performance. The Mask had spun into an animated series, a sequel called Son of the Mask, and was the most prolific comic book movie of all time until 25 years later when Joker premiered. What do Patricia and Arun think of the film? The lesson to be taken from this is that you, too, can fall in mutual VD if you wait long enough for the hot girl to settle for you.Welcome back to 1994, the year that Jim Carrey revealed himself as the mischievous god of comedy who would come to rule Darth's imagination and heart. Oddly enough, this was the same year that Jason was still catering to (not FOR) all the johns of the city. It's honestly the only reason why he's able to smoothly incorporate prostitute humor into his Dad Jokes. The Mask shows us that Stanely Ipkiss was the inspiration for Ted Buckland on Scrubs. Also, Nathan Lane now performs at the Coco Bongo club; he's basically the Lady Chablis of South Beach. We normally don't do what we're about to do, so pay attention, listeners, and get excited, for we have some historic news. #HindsightIsHorrifying is officially hosting our first male guest! He will be joining us on our next episode to discuss Death Race 2000 as well as our upcoming show in Alpharetta, Much Ado About Nothing. This Shakespearean production is directed by Jason Mitchell, in spite of some promotional misunderstanding. Now, we understand that some of you simply don't love us enough to cross oceans for this free show that we're putting on next week for our parents. That being said, stay tuned to find out where we will be live streaming our Shakespearean production. Aussies, we're counting on you. Show us that love from Down Under.Did you know that The Mask and Archer only implement sodomy in the strictest legal definition? Welcome back to the movie description. We felt you guys were getting a little off topic with that Shakespeare nonsense.Anyway! Working backwards, Artie from Kimmy Schmidt = Lt. Kellaway from The Mask = Boone from Animal House. We knew that would blow your mind up just like a circus balloon shaped by a carnie in a dark alley!Don't think we're letting you get away without the important lessons learned from this movie:Monogamy is NOT a type of wood.If you ever hear Darth don a British accent, don't believe a word she says. All henchman should have fabulous hair and all FBI agents should hold hands.Hootie & the Blowfish should never try to rob a bank.White Fanging is ONLY okay with girlfriends and bosses, not dogs. Who else is going to find your keys OR your cheese?Lastly, we realize that there was an actual lesson in this movie. Stanley Ipkiss had the courage he needed all along, even without the mask. So if he ever goes looking for his heart's desire again … oh wait, he already found it with Tina Carlyle, so he's all set. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Stanley Ipkiss is a loveable loser that just wants to embrace his inner comic character, be the hero, and get the girl, right? That's what the hit 90's movie would have you believe. As it turns out, the original Stanley Ipkiss is an abusive boyfriend and psychotic madman. This week we talk about the comic inspiration behind the Jim Carrey classic.
Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi and William Thrasher discuss The Mask. Based on the much more ultraviolent comic book series from Dark Horse Comics, The Mask was a smash hit for Jim Carrey. In fact, 1994 was the year Jim Carrey became a movie star; Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb & Dumber all came out that same year. Stanley Ipkiss (Jim Carrey) is a put-upon wallflower of a bank employee. After coming across a mask of mythical origin, he puts it on one night and unleashes his inner self: a wild, cartoon lothario. After robbing a bank, getting mixed up with gangster Dorian (Peter Greene), and falling for Tina (Cameron Diaz), Stanley finds himself in quite the pickle. Mat felt Ready Player One was a mediocre science-fiction virtual reality movie anchored with strong performances from Olivia Cooke, Simon Pegg and Mark Rylance. There are references to movies, TV shows, and video games galore, but the narrative is pandering and simplistic. Thrasher caught Black Panther in theaters and felt it gave every character an arc. He also felt it was the most beautiful Marvel Studios film to date with the design and aesthetic of Wakanda. Stanley Ipkiss takes the red pill, and get's what is rightfully his. The girl, the money, the power, and the keeses. Frank Netscher (Fuck This Week) digs in with us to reveal the tender underbelly of what makes Jim Carrey's, The Mask, such an awful movie.

Jim Carrey, STD, Suicide Brace yourself people!!
Joined once again by Lacey Day, we take on the 1994's Jim Carrey vehicle, The Mask. Based off the Dark Horse Comics property and developed by Dark Horse Entertainment, The Mask deviates strongly from its violent source material and becomes a kid-friendly, living cartoon. Bolstering the rising career of Jim Carrey and launching the career of Cameron Diaz, the film was both wildly successful (being the second highest-grossing comic book film of all time, behind only Batman) and critically well received. In this episode, we establish that 2016 Stanley Ipkiss would be a Men's Rights Activist, we all love 90's tropes except for pollution jokes, Allen hates sports radio, but loves when dogs wear things on their heads, Steven hates Ben Stein, and Lacey Day thinks Cameron Diaz is a babe.Ipkiss our asses.Email: fourcolorfilm@gmail.comTwitter: @fourcolorfilmFacebook: facebook.com/fourcolorfilmWebsite: fourcolorfilm.com
