Cakes or loaves of bread which were always present on a specially dedicated table, in the Temple in Jerusalem
POPULARITY
Tuesday, 9 December 2025 and begged Him that they might only touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched it were made perfectly well. Matthew 14:36 “And they invoked Him that only they might touch the tassel of His garment, and as many, they touched, they were rehabilitated” (CG). In the previous verse, it's noted that the men of the area of Gennesaret recognized Jesus, and so they sent out to all the areas round about and brought to Jesus all that were sick. Now, to close out Chapter 14 (it is an exciting milestone as Matthew is 28 Chapters long), Matthew records, “And they invoked Him that only they might touch the tassel of His garment.” This is the same hope-filled sign of faith that was seen in Chapter 9 – “And, you behold! A woman, blood-flowing twelve years, having approached behind, she touched the tassel of His cloak. 21 For she said in herself, ‘If only I shall touch His cloak, I will be saved.' 22 And Jesus, having turned and having seen her, He said, ‘You take courage, daughter. Your faith, it has saved you.' And, the woman, she was saved from the very hour.” Matthew 9:20-22 (CG) The people of Israel understood the significance of this tassel, and they knew that if they could get close enough to just touch it, there was the chance the Lord would favor them and heal their afflictions. Being a tassel on the extremity of the garment meant that it was symbolically the furthest thing from His body. And yet, they felt that the power that radiated through this remote article would be sufficient to accomplish what they desired. It truly was an act of faith. As a reminder concerning these tassels, they were mandated in the law by the Lord to spur the memory of the wearer of his obligation to the commands of the law. A blue cord was to be woven into them. This represented the law, blue being the color representing the law. This extreme edge of the garment was the article they reached for. It is what Malachi prophesied hundreds of years earlier – “But to you who fear My name The Sun of Righteousness shall arise With healing in His wings.” Malachi 4:2 The garments were cut in a way that they had four edges. The edge or wing of the garment is where the tassels would be affixed. Whether the people knew of the prophecy of Malachi, or whether the prophecy merely referred to the events surrounding Jesus' powers exuding even from these wings, the fact that the healing was prophesied means that a change should be expected in the people. Understanding this, Matthew continues, saying, “and as many, they touched, they were rehabilitated.” A new word, diasózó, is seen. It is derived from dia, through, and sózó, to save. Thus, it signifies “to save thoroughly.” The people were thoroughly saved from their affliction and thus rehabilitated. Life application: What is going on here? Why is this account placed where it is? One can review the history of Israel in his mind and see that what has happened in Chapter 14 is a snapshot of Israel's history in relation to the law. First, the account of John the Baptist being beheaded was given. Who is the only other person to have had a birthday celebration in Scripture? Pharaoh. There is a reason why these two are mentioned. Pharaoh represents Egypt as its leader. Egypt typologically reflects living under the bondage of sin. It is Jesus who brought man out from under this bondage. But what is it that allows sin to wield its influence? Law. Herod had John's head removed, picturing the end of the law. John is the last prophet of the law. Something new was coming to replace the law he proclaimed. It was Herodius' daughter who danced for Herod. Her name was Salome. Though not named in Matthew, the name still bears importance. It is from shalem, to be or make whole or complete. It signifies Peace. Herodias is from the Hebrew arad, to flee or be free. She and Herod (same etymology) were condemned by John, the herald of the law, for their adulterous affair. They wanted to be free from the constraint of the law. Thus, Salome, Peace, was used to obtain this goal. In the beheading of John, the enmity between God and sinners is ended. Peace is restored. With the law symbolically ended (Israel being brought out of Egypt). Jesus went to a deserted place across the sea, just as Israel was brought into the wilderness. The movement of Jesus from one place to another was across the Jordan. This is because the Jordan runs through the Sea of Galilee to the other side. It is a picture of Israel's rejection of Jesus, even after the law was ended (in the picture of John's death). The Jordan pictures Jesus in His incarnation during His first advent, coming to die, as seen in the Superior Word Joshua sermons. In the wilderness on the other side, Jesus is the Antitype of all of the implements prescribed under the law, such as the Ark, the Table of Showbread, the Menorah, etc. To understand this, one can review the Superior Word sermons of those passages. The people of Israel joined Him in the desolate area where they were instructed and then provided the miracle of the bread and fish, just as Israel was provided the manna and quail in the wilderness. The five loaves symbolize God's grace, feeding His people, Jesus, the Bread of Life. The two fish symbolize the two testaments of Scripture, which point to the abundance found in Christ Jesus. The twelve small baskets of remnants picture the remnant saved of the twelve tribes of Israel (Romans 11:5). The five thousand confirm the grace of God (5) and the completion of the cycle, where nothing is wanting and the whole cycle is complete (10). The disciples then got into a boat to cross the sea. However, they were tossed about and almost perished. It is still reflective of the time when Israel walked in the wilderness for forty years. That is why the events are noted as being “amidst the sea” in Matthew 14:24. Verse 25 specifically mentioned that Jesus departed unto them in the ship in the “night's fourth guarding.” Four is the number of material creation, the world number. It reflects the dispersion of the Jews around the world back to Israel and that they would finally cross over the waters in the end times. Despite being alone on the sea, the Lord never really left them. He saved them from impending catastrophe, just as the Lord remained with Israel in the wilderness and just as He has remained with Israel for the past two thousand years, fully saving them as they individually looked to the cross. This was seen in the saving of Peter. Peter's salvation on the water was noted, “And seeing the forcible wind, he feared, and having begun to submerge, he croaked, saying, ‘Lord, You save [sózó] me!'” That pictured the fulfillment of the individual salvation that was found while Israel was in the wilderness. This occurred when the fiery serpent was set on a pole, and “if a serpent had bitten anyone, when he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived” (Numbers 21:9). Despite his failing faith and having his eyes temporarily misdirected, he was saved. As Peter was the apostle to the Jews, it makes a nice touch concerning his epistles, directed to the Jewish people. After being given this salvation, the boat arrived safely on the other shore. It anticipates Israel being brought safely to the end of their time of being without Christ. Matthew specifically says the boat is said to have arrived in Gennesaret, Princely Garden. It anticipates the arrival of Israel in the land of promise (salvation in Christ) that had been anticipated since their rejection of Canaan (symbolizing their rejection of Christ) in Numbers 14. Once arriving in Gennesaret, which is on the salvation side of the Jordan (Jesus in His first advent), the people flocked to Him, and for those who reached out to Him, there was total salvation. This anticipates the total salvation of Israel after their time of bondage under the law has ended. Touching the tassel with the blue cord (the law) signifies their acceptance of Jesus, the One who has fulfilled the law. This chapter has been given as a brief snapshot of Israel's history in relation to Jesus, who is the Lord, Yehovah, incarnate. God is taking real historical events, such as a young girl dancing, the feeding of the multitude, the struggles amidst the sea, etc., and He is telling us that there is still a future for Israel, the people. The importance of the law being opposed to grace is put on full display in this chapter. For those who want to live under the law, there is no hope. They remain “east of Jordan.” For those who are willing to be saved, they must come through Jesus to the other side. Give up law observance and be saved! What a story of hope and ultimate redemption is found in the coming of Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! Lord God, how good it is to know of the full and eternal salvation that is found in Jesus Christ our Lord. Thank You that even when our eyes may be misdirected from You for a moment, Your hand is still there, reaching out and saving us! Hallelujah and Amen.
God Dwells With Us | Mark Bailey--As the priest enters the tent and the Holy Place, he sees the Table of Showbread, which is to be constantly set with 12 cakes of bread.--Notes
In last week's kickoff to our new series Collide, we learned about the layout of the Tabernacle -- the Outer Courts (for the general public), the Inner Courts (for priests only), and the Holy of Holies (only for the one High Priest). Today, our service will be a little different than usual. Instead of all the music at the beginning of the service, we will only have one song (a new one, don't miss it!) and then a very short sermon from Pastor Matt. After that, the congregation will split and walk through various "stations" with elements representing the Lampstand, the Table of Showbread, and the Altar of Incense, so you get a sense of what worship was like in the Tabernacle.
All Temples give God's blueprint for us as His ultimate Temples. Man fell into sin & lost God's Presence, but He's restoring us to be His Temples – He'll dwell within us & shine out of us forever. All the different Temples encode different aspects of His ultimate Temple, each providing a piece of the puzzle. We get the whole picture by putting together the revelation from them all. (1) Our SPIRIT = HOLY of HOLIES, (2) our SOUL = HOLY PLACE, (3) our BODY = OUTER COURT. We're made with His THRONE in our SPIRIT to live under His authority. When we receive Christ & He's enthroned within us, we discover our true identity, ability & personality, for His Spirit of grace flows from His throne to fill & transform our souls & empower us to do His will & be fruitful. Christ is the perfect human Temple; God was enthroned in His spirit and His Spirit filled His soul & flowed out of Him. But we were born spiritually dead, so His Spirit did not indwell us. Christ came to make us into true Temples, like Him. So, He died as our SIN OFFERING to take away our sins, and as our BURNT OFFERING to give us His perfect righteousness. Mercy Seat = ‘Place of Propitiation' where God's righteous judgment is fully satisfied by the Blood. He sees the Blood & declares us forgiven, so He's now free to bless us. Once the blood was sprinkled on the mercy seat & accepted by God, Israel came under mercy for another year. But she had to repeat this ritual every year signifying man's sin wasn't yet put away (Heb 10:1-4). Christ accomplished this (Heb 10:5-10). So, Tabernacle rituals pictured what Christ would accomplish in establishing the New Covenant in His Blood in the Heavenly Temple, and activating it in His redeemed human Temples (Heb 9:7-12). As the High Priest, He offered Himself as the final Sacrifice and took His Blood into the heavenly Holy of Holies, and sprinkled it on God's Throne, the Mercy Seat, as full payment for our sin & every blessing of grace (Heb 4:16). His Blood in Heaven ever speaks on our behalf, and is the basis for the everlasting New Covenant (Heb 12:22-24). Having done this, He sat down to signify His finished work, and entered into His work as Mediator of the New Covenant for His people (Heb 1:3, 10:11-12, 9:23-26). The Heavenly Temple is an image of God's ultimate Temple (Man), so when we receive Christ, He also sprinkles us with His Blood & sanctifies us to Himself (1Pet 1:2, Heb 9:13-14). By His Spirit, He entered our holy of holies, and applied His Blood to our spirit, cleansing it from all sin & sanctifying it to Himself, making it a perfect new creation, and then sits enthroned there by His indwelling Spirit, to mediate the new covenant in our lives. This happened at our New Birth. He activated the New Covenant in us, so we're now under grace. We became a functioning Temple. Having sprinkled & cleansed us with His Blood (Heb 9:13-14), He now brings us into our inheritance (v15). It's a Throne of Grace, for the Lamb's Blood has been accepted by God on our behalf, and He sits at God's right hand dispensing His River of Grace to us (Rev 22:1-2). This also pictures us as Temples, with Christ enthroned as Lord in our spirit, releasing His river of grace from His throne in our spirit, flowing down into our heart & life. The trees = thoughts & emotions in our soul. As we trust in Christ who lives in us, and submit to His Lordship, we receive His river of blessing into our hearts. When God entered the Tabernacle, He sat in His glory, enthroned on the Mercy Seat above the Ark of the Covenant in the Holy of Holies, and there He met with Moses & spoke with him (Ex 25:21-22). Likewise, He sits on the throne in our spirit, His base of operation in us. 3 items in the HOLY PLACE (Heb 9:1-4) = our SOUL: *(1) MENORAH = our MIND, illuminated by the oil of His Spirit. *(2) TABLE of SHOWBREAD (‘the Bread of the Presence') = our EMOTIONS, kept ever fresh from God's Presence, shining from the Holy of Holies. *(3) The ALTAR of INCENSE next to the Holy of Holies = our HEART or WILL, at the deepest part of our soul, called the Golden Censer (‘the Place of Incense') in Heb 9:4, where it's described as belonging to the holy of holies. Thus, our HEART is the junction & connection between our SPIRIT & SOUL, receiving God's life from the spirit, so that it flows into our soul (Heb 4:12, John 7:38). By God's design, the heart should be under the spirit's control, so a worshipping heart is necessary to receive God's grace into our souls. As we submit our hearts into God's Hand (the Holy Spirit), He can guide & empower us (Prov 21:1). To reign in life, put our heart into His Hand (His Spirit), who manifests in us as rivers of living water. In the Holy of Holies was the Ark of the Covenant containing 3 items, hidden under the Throne (under His control) = 3 aspects of God's grace, He wants to release into our soul by His Spirit: (1) the Tablets of the Covenant, (2) Aaron's Almond Rod that budded, and (3) the Golden Pot of Manna (Heb 9:3-5)

The showbread speaks of Jesus as the life sustainer. Eternal life is a gift from God that is received by a person when they receive the “true” manna of God, Jesus. However, eternal life requires a special food to sustain it in growth and strength. It is the showbread that sets forth Jesus as the food for those who have partaken of the manna of life.

EXODUS 25: Build Me a SanctuaryIn this Torah-only, no-fluff breakdown, Kerry and Karen Battle of Ahava~Love Assembly teach straight from the Word—no religion, no tradition, just truth. Learn what Yahuah really wanted when He told Moshe to build the Tabernacle: a sanctuary where His presence could dwell. From freewill offerings to the Ark, from the Table of Showbread to the Menorah, this chapter ain't about gold—it's about obedience, heart, and reverence.
A quick look at offerings, the Ark of the Covenant, the Table of Showbread, the Golden Lampstand, the Curtains, the Boards, the Veil, the Bronze Altar, the Courtyard, the Priests' clothing, and Urim & Thummim.
Scripture Reading: 1 Chronicles 29:10-20 Near the end of his reign, King David desired to build a temple for the Lord. For 400 years, since the exodus from Egypt, the central place of worship in Israel had been the tabernacle. The tabernacle was a tent which the Jews carried through the wilderness. Now David wanted to build a permanent structure as the main place of worship for Israel. His desire was denied by God. David could make the plans, but could not be the builder of the temple because his reign had been characterized by the bloodshed of war (1 Chr 28:2-6). David's son, Solomon, whose name means ‘peace', would be the builder. Though David was not allowed to build the temple, before he died he laid elaborate plans, including the personnel to oversee and care for the temple and its activities. There were 38,000 Levites to oversee the operation of the temple, caring for everything from singing to counting money to baking bread for the Table of Showbread in the Holy Place (cf. 1 Chr 23-27). When David had finished preparations, he addressed the people and Solomon (1 Chr 28) and prayed a stirring prayer in 1 Chronicles 29. In David's prayer, we see a reflection of the purpose for the temple. First, it was to be a reminder to the people of the person of God and so David lauds the character of God in his prayer . . . God's greatness, power, glory, victory, and majesty (1 Chr 29:10-13). Second, the temple was to be a reminder of the necessity of humility before the Lord and obedience to Him (1 Chr 29:14-19). Churches exist today, whether they have buildings or not, to reflect to our world the matchless glories of God and the pleasure of worshipping him in holiness and wonder and joy.

The showbread was an offering from the people to God, and it also represented Christ and our communion with God. The Golden Altar of Incense represented our prayers ascending to God. From the start, God gave His servants the opportunity to participate and to have fellowship with Him. Both the Table of Showbread and Golden Altar represent communion with God. I consider both the standard, Christian interpretation of this text as well as the common “Hebrew Roots” interpretation, and then walk through and give an alternate understanding. Hosea 6:6 is paramount here. It must be understood that in the realm of keeping the commandments, sometimes two commands collide and doing one is more important than doing the other.

Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 21:1-9 As David ran for his life from Saul's murderous anger, living in the hills of Judah, he naturally became hungry. By the time David came to Ahimelech, the high priest, he had a few men accompanying him. When David inquired if Ahimelech had any provisions, the answer was that the only bread available at that moment was the sacred bread displayed in the Holy Place in the Tabernacle. This bread, sometimes called the ‘Showbread' or the ‘Bread of the Presence,' was arranged in two rows (perhaps in two stacks) of six loaves on a golden table in the Holy Place (Exod 25:23-30). The twelve loaves represented God's provision to the twelve tribes of Israel. The bread was changed every Sabbath Day and was only to be eaten by the priests (Lev 24:5-9). Under the circumstances (i.e., David's hunger), the priest gave David the bread to eat, along with his men. Jesus used this example in the New Testament when He was teaching the Pharisees about true righteousness (Mt 12:1-7). True holiness is not a matter of anything external, like ceremonial washing or abstaining from certain foods or animal sacrifice. True holiness is a matter of the heart. "I desire compassion, not a sacrifice" (Mt 12:7). The implications of this principle are far-reaching, particularly for our worship. Worship is not simply a matter of performing the right rituals … baptism, singing, giving, communion. Worship is a matter of the heart in a burning in desire for God. It is a heart of reverence and love for God that makes songs or prayers or eating the bread of the Lord's Supper acceptable to Him. The essence of holiness is a pure heart that longs for the living God in repentance, delight, and submission.

What lays in store for us as we witness the beauty, the horror of rock that is so raw?If you like what you hear, please rate, review, subscribe, and follow!Connect with us here:Email: contact@churchjamsnow.comSite: https://www.churchjamsnow.com/IG: @churchjamsnowTwitter: @churchjamsnowFB: https://www.facebook.com/churchjamsnowpodcastPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/churchjamsnowpodcast
Continuing in the Pattern of God series, the sermon highlights the profound significance of the Table of Showbread, specifically the Bread of the Presence. We learned about the connection that the Bread of the Presence had to the Sabbath, and their symbolic representation of God's covenant and provision for His people Israel. Furthermore, we saw that the Levitical Priests role was to prepare the Bread of the Presence and also to consume the Bread of the Presence. Which spoke to the ongoing interaction they were to have with the presence of God. This bread is also what we are to consume, which is the word of God. Looking through passages like 1 Samuel 21, we learned as we interact with God's word, we are to be humbled and brought to a place of genuine service on behalf of others. This is who we are. Men and women who love the Word of God, and have the Word at work inside of us, that we may be brought to greater levels of humility to serve others and see their lives transformed. We are the bread that is to be broken on behalf of others, that they might experience life that is truly life.
In the Tabernacle, there was the Table of Showbread. It represents God showing up in our lives. Man cannot live by bread alone. In this message, Pastor Gina Robinson reminds us that God is the Bread of Life who is always available for us.

What does the Table of Showbread teach us? The furnishings in the Tabernacle had far more symbolism than most believers realize, especially the menorah and the so-called “Table of Showbread”. In fascinating detail, Jake Hilton reveals the amazing message these two pieces of furniture deliver about the character of the Almighty and how he expects us to behave as his representatives. This weekend is the celebration of the feast of Shavuot or the Feast of Weeks or Pentecost. We will be reading from Psalm 68 and playing the music of the Table of Showbread in the 639 Hz frequency from the Frequency of Fellowship album. This feast of Shavuot represents the restoration of the Kingdom of Yashua/Jesus so that righteousness will be the order of the day instead of the abominations that we observe all around us in the world today. This feast helps us look forward to that restoration and it also reminds us that we have been given the Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth even in this world of lies. The Holy Spirit is our guide, and we can trust Him. May this season find you in joy and Shalom. Blessings. This is message 13 in The Tabernacle Exodus 25:23-30 The Table of Showbread served as a continual reminder of God's covenant and provision. Fresh bread was placed on the table every Sabbath, and the priests ate the bread in fellowship, symbolizing the unity of believers. This table foreshadowed Jesus, the bread of life, whose sacrifice provides eternal spiritual nourishment, reminding believers of their need for fellowship and communion with Him.
