Jetour De Force Jetour, a relatively new player in the global motoring market, has set its sights firmly on South Africa. Despite intense competition, the Chinese automotive brand is confident in its ability to make an impression, launching in South Africa with two stunning SUVs, a 10-year/1 000 000km warranty, and a laser-sharp focus on after-sales service & customer satisfaction. Jetour's two initial offerings for the local market, the seven-seater X70 Plus and the five-seater Dashing, both offer a combination of style, comfort and advanced technology in two variants — Momentum and Deluxe — for a 4-variant line-up from the start (following the initial launch, Jetour South Africa will reportedly also be rolling out “Pro” variants of the Dashing and X70 Plus in 2025). Priced from R439,900, the Dashing incorporates a futuristic design language, with attractively slim LED headlamps and sinuous lines down the flanks. The spacious X70 Plus (starting at R454,900) may be less daring in its appearance, however its smart cabin configuration is a stand-out feature, allowing for comfortable seating for seven people. The Dashing and X70 Plus are powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbopetrol engine delivering 115 kW and 230 Nm of torque. Jetour offers its products exclusively with dual-clutch auto transmissions and the 4 launch derivatives are front-wheel driven, whilst being built off Jetour's unique Kunlun platform architecture. To ensure a smooth market entry, Jetour has also invested heavily in its South African operations, establishing a local parts inventory of R100m, securing a nationwide dealer network, and investing in training facilities to equip its sales and after-sales teams with the necessary skills to deliver superior customer service. It would appear that the groundwork has now been laid and it's “all systems go” for this dynamic auto brand determined to win the local market... A tour de force indeed! The South African Paralympic and Olympic sprinter, Oscar Pistorius, convicted of killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on February 14, 2013. Pistorius claimed he mistook Steenkamp for an intruder and shot her through a locked bathroom door in his home. The trial, highly publicised and marked by intense media scrutiny, exposed conflicting testimonies and highlighted issues of domestic violence and gun control. Initially convicted of culpable homicide (manslaughter), the charge was later upgraded to murder on appeal. In 2017, Pistorius received a 13-year prison sentence, solidifying his dramatic fall from grace. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

When Oscar Pistorius murdered his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013, he was one of the most famous athletes in the world. A double amputee and an Olympian – he was dubbed “Bladerunner” – his trial made global headlines. He was released from prison in South Africa earlier this month having served over half his sentence. At his 2014 trial he claimed that in the early hours of St Valentine's Day, he had fired his gun thinking there was intruder in his home. The facts, however, proved he murdered the 29-year-old Steenkamp, a model and TV personality who had only been dating Pistorius for four months. Her death added to South Africa's staggeringly high rates of femicide and the levels of gender-based violence in the country have continued to climb. Bill Corcoran, who covered the former athlete's trial in 2014 for The Irish Times, explains the reaction in South Africa to his release on parole. Presented by Bernice Harrison. Produced by Suzanne Brennan. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Oscar Pistorius became famous for not allowing a handicap to stand in his way to Track and Field success. After becoming a Paralympic Champion he fought his way through the courts to be allowed to compete in non-disabled competitions. In 2012 he competed in the Summer Olympics in London and became one of the most famous people in the world, earning the nickname "Blade Runner" for the prosthetic legs he uses to run. Less than 6 months after the Olympic Games, Pistorius claims he hears a noise in the middle of the night and thinks someone is breaking in, but what happens next lands him in jail, charged with murder! Join Joseph Scott Morgan and Dave Mack as they break down the case of Oscar Pistorius. Did he kill his girlfriend in cold blood or was it a horrible mistake. The sleepy town of Griekwastad South Africa woke up to absolute horror on Good Friday 2012. Three members of the local Steenkamp family had been brutally murdered, leaving their 17-year-old son Don as the only survivor. As the dust settled people blamed everything from a so-called ‘white genocide farm attack' to a Satanic Cult. However, the reality and the family secrets that emerged were far darker than anything cooked up by the press.Follow us on social media:InstagramTwitterVisit our website:WebsiteSources available on redhandedpodcast.comSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

My guest today is Dr. Daan Steenkamp, CEO of startup Codera Analytics and formerly Lead Economist and Head of the Research Unit at the South African Reserve Bank. We tackle two big topics: 1) the difference between demand- and supply-side shocks to the economy; why central banks were slow to recognise inflation; and what it may take to re-anchor inflation expectations; and 2) how Codera is applying automation and machine learning tools from software development to economic forecasting; the difference between traditional economic models and machine learning models; and the importance of narrative in economic forecasting. You can follow Daan @daan_steenkamp or via the Codera blog.

In this episode, I'm chatting with Who's your ADDIE Co-founders Stephanie Bandli and Lizzy Steenkamp. Who's your ADDIE? is an e-learning marketplace run by practicing e-learning professionals with over 15 years of experience in e-learning design and development. They are obsessed with creating digital learning that is engaging, pedagogically (or andragogically) sound, fit for purpose, and technically well-made to create an overall excellent learning experience. They understand that industry professionals need to specialize in a wide range of skills: instructional design, writing, graphic design, learning technologies, and user experience design. It's not always possible for everyone to excel in all of these areas. In addition, we often work with tight deadlines that are at odds with our desire to create work that would truly benefit our students, and that we can be proud of. They want to help passionate e-learning creators leverage each others' skills by creating and selling high-quality e-learning templates and assets. Browse our platform to buy and sell products for every phase of the ADDIE process: analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation. This week, we're revisiting one of our favourite recent episodes from October, 2021. Even when they wow us in the ring, on the bar or on the field, the most awe-inspiring athletes are still human — and humans are messy. The world of sports is full of crime and scandal. More than enough to fill an entire episode! From dangerous errors to systemic racism, these podcasts pull back the curtain to reveal that sports stars — and the industries that support them — aren't always golden behind the scenes. First up, one of our favourite recent indie podcasts shows how in Olympic gymnastics precision is everything, and a small mistake can have life-altering consequences. Later, the podcast False Idol looks at the story of Oscar Pistorius, the once celebrated sprinter, and his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, who he shot and killed. It explores hero worship, gender based violence, and Steenkamp's own life. And the name "Tiger Woods" might be the first thing you think of when someone says "sports scandal." What did the media get right and wrong when covering him? Podcasts featured: Blind Landing, Badlands: Sportsland, False Idol, All-American: Tiger Woods, Running Things with Donovan Bailey For links and more info on all the podcasts on this week's episode, head to http://cbc.ca/podcastplaylist.
