Applications are now open for the 2027 Nuffield Canada Scholarship, offering professionals in agriculture the chance to study global food systems through international travel and research. The program is open to individuals between the ages of 25 and 50 working in agriculture, food or agribusiness. Selected scholars take part in a two-year program that includes at least 10 weeks of travel, along with independent research on a topic relevant to their work.

Governor Hochul and Mayor Zohran Mamdani celebrated the opening of applications for the first 2000 seats of free 2-k childcare across the city. WFUV's Mia Barth has more. New Jersey is one of six states where voters are heading to the polls for the primaries. This means each party is voting on who their candidates will be for the general election this November. But its impact goes beyond just the Garden State. The results in one district could lead to a change in who has control of the House. WFUV's Lainey Nguyen breaks it down. Applications are now open for the September 2026 cohort of the Digital4Business Joint Professional Master's Degree in Advanced Digital Technologies for Business. For this intake, successful applicants will pay no tuition or registration fees, thanks to co-funding from the European Union and the Digital4Business consortium. The programme gives learners the opportunity to complete a fully online, internationally accredited Master's designed around the digital skills businesses need most, including artificial intelligence, data science, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and digital transformation. Digital4Business has a strong Irish connection. National College of Ireland is one of the four higher education institutions delivering the programme, alongside Linköping University in Sweden, NOVA IMS in Portugal, and the University of Bologna in Italy. NCI is also overseeing the validation and accreditation of programmes, while Professor Horacio González-Vélez of NCI is the overall Digital4Business coordinator. Irish organisations Skillnet Ireland and Digital Technology Skills are also members of the consortium. At the launch, then Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Simon Harris, addressed the event by video message, welcoming the collaboration of higher education institutions, research centres, training providers and industry partners. "We are always stronger together, especially when we harness pan-European cooperation," he said. Dara Calleary, then Minister of State for Trade Promotion and Digital Transformation, also attended the launch at NCI and highlighted the importance of digital technologies for Ireland's economic progress and talent development. Study built around real life Digital4Business has been designed for recent graduates, managers, and ambitious professionals who want to build advanced digital skills without stepping away from work. While the programme follows a full-time structure, classes take place in the evening, making it a realistic option for people balancing full-time jobs, family life, and other commitments. Learners complete a 60 ECTS Master's over two semesters in one academic year, fully online. Career support built into the programme Alongside academic delivery, Digital4Business places a strong focus on community, career progression, and practical support. Students have access to employability webinars, one-to-one coaching, mentoring, peer exchange, and career-focused sessions covering CV development, networking, interview performance, communication, and leading through digital change. Wider support also includes industry engagement, work-based learning, and networking opportunities, helping students feel connected to both peers and the professional world. Student experience Current student Grace Rubinger said: "Balancing the programme with work and family life takes structure and consistency. I usually watch lectures twice a week and set aside additional time for readings and assignments. That steady rhythm helps me stay engaged without becoming overwhelmed." This recording originates from the Polinsys studios in Cambridge, Ontario.  NWT Nominee Program applications open November 10 with revised eligibility criteria The third 2025 intake of the Northwest Territories Nominee Program opens on November 10 at 9 a.m. These additional spots come following extensive advocacy work by the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT), leading to the Government of Canada's decision earlier this month to restore the territory's yearly full allocation of 300 nominations. To fill the remaining nomination spots in a timely manner, the program guidelines have been updated through to the end of 2025, changing eligibility criteria for applicants and employers. These revised guidelines include three key changes: 1. Removing the limit on employer applications: Employers will no longer be limited on the number of applications they can submit based on business size. 2. Removing work permit expiry date requirements: Under the revised guidelines, applicants with a valid work permit who meet all other eligibility criteria may now apply, regardless of their work permit expiry date. 3. Reinstating the previous work experience requirement: The Skilled Worker and NWT Express Entry streams will return to the work experience criteria used in 2024 and earlier. Applicants must have at least one year of full-time work experience within the last 10 years in the same or a similar occupation as the one for which they are being nominated. This experience may come from different employers. These changes will remain in place for the remainder of 2025. Application intake closes November 24, 2025, 5 p.m. The Northwest Territories Nominee Program will aim to process up to 103 eligible applications in order to meet its revised 300 nominations for 2025. Applications received in excess of 103 or applications that cannot be finalized by December 23, 2025, will be withdrawn. The first round of the Agricultural Roads Improvement Program grants opens for application on Oct. 6. This application period will distribute $50 million in ARIP funding to support projects across the state focused on improving rural roads and culverts that are critical to moving and transporting agricultural and forestry products. The 2025-27 Biennial Budget included $150 million to continue this program created in 2023. This year, $30 million will be specifically targeted to bridge and culvert repair through the separate Local Bridge and Culvert Improvement Program. WisDOT is developing those program materials, which are expected to be available in the coming months, says Assistant Deputy Secretary Joel Nilsestuen. The two completed projects of the 91 grants from the 2024-25 ARIP program are: Town of Sugar Camp in Oneida County and Town of Rockland in Brown County.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

An initiative which helps innovative Artificial Intelligence (AI)-focused scaleup companies to maximise their full commercial potential is now open for 2025 applications. The 6-month programme, delivered by the University of Edinburgh, will widen its selection process this year, to encourage a broader range of scaleups from tech-focused companies to benefit from a package of support aimed at helping transform their businesses into world-leading companies. The AI Accelerator has a strong track record of supporting innovative businesses and, this year, will be joined by Daniel Winterstein as Technical Entrepreneur in Residence. A PhD graduate at the University of Edinburgh and co-founder of ethical ad-tech company Good-Loop, Daniel will offer technical guidance and mentorship as part of the Accelerator's wider support network. Daniel Winterstein comments, "As the only UK city to be named an AI leader, it's fair to say that we have a real opportunity here and I am so excited to meet the cohort. Access to capital and talent are their biggest barriers to growth in the UK and we want to support them to overcome these challenges with our programme so that as a city and a university we can continue to lead the way with AI." The programme, delivered by the University of Edinburgh's world-leading Innovation Hub for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, the Bayes Centre in collaboration with Edinburgh Innovations, will feature monthly in-person workshops complemented by additional activities delivered online and two trips to London. The AI Accelerator gives companies a platform to shape their investment strategies and connect with potential investors. Participants also take part in expert-led workshops covering pricing, leadership, and scaling - all designed to drive commercial growth. The University of Edinburgh is home to the largest centres for computing science and informatics in Europe. Through access to its academic expertise and links into the Data- Driven Innovation hubs, AI Accelerator participants will also benefit from collaboration and business exposure opportunities. Among last year's participants were Chirrup, a business that helps landholders to thrive with biodiversity, by providing sensors and reporting tools that show the level of natural capital they already have. Gaining clarity on their "bullseye target" at the AI accelerator enabled Chirrup to concentrate their efforts on food processor intermediaries. This focused approach facilitated the development of marketing and sales tools specifically crafted to address these clients' unique challenges and maximise value. Dr. Murray Collins, CEO, Space Intelligence who participated in the 2021 cohort commented, "The programme introduced us to the different skills needed to grow a business over and above our academic and technical ability. As a result, we have grown significantly, including raising investment at seed and Series A stages from with investment from global name entities like Equinor and Intercontinental Exchange (NYSE: ICE), owners of the New York Stock Exchange. "Since the Accelerator, we've publicly worked with major clients, such as Shell and Apple, and won several funding competitions that have helped to solidify our position as a leading player in this space." University College Dublin (UCD) and Teagasc have today announced that applications are now open for the second Food and Agriculture Sustainable Technology Innovation Programme (FAST-IP) which begins this September. FAST-IP, a specialist agrifood technology innovation programme, provides participants with the skills necessary to evaluate, select and validate ideas for new products and services in the agrifood sector and to accelerate the commercialisation pathway of these ideas. Aligned with Ireland's national agrifood strategy, Food Vision 2030, FAST-IP also aims to support establishing Ireland as a leader in sustainable food systems by balancing climate-smart agriculture, environmental and economic sustainability, and innovation. Participants on the inaugural programme, which ends in August, are currently developing business plans for new market ready innovations in areas ranging from soil health, food allergens, pest control and bioeconomy. Twelve (12) places are available on the full-time, 12-month, in-person programme aimed at mid-career professionals, which is delivered by the UCD School of Biosystems and Food Engineering in partnership with Teagasc at the AgTechUCD Innovation Centre at UCD Lyons Farm in Co. Kildare. FAST-IP provides participants with a €38,000 tax-free scholarship during the programme. Edel Mitchell, Programme Manager, FAST-IP, said, "We are delighted to open applications for our second FAST-IP programme. This is a wonderful opportunity for mid-career professionals to embrace their entrepreneurial ambitions and develop market led solutions to real problems experienced by the global agrifood sector. The practical needs led innovation process enables participants to deep dive and forensically understand pressing challenges for the agrifood sector and build innovative solutions. Participants also spend 8-10 weeks immersed in agricultural environments including farms, food processing companies, and Teagasc locations throughout the 12-month programme. Dr Siobhán Jordan, Head of Technology Transfer and Commercialisation, Teagasc, said, "FAST-IP aims to position Ireland as a global innovator in AgTech and food systems by fostering the creation of high-potential start-ups, scalable businesses and sustainable solutions that address challenges in areas including, climate change, food security, productivity and economic diversification. We are now seeking applications from mid-career individuals who are interested in embarking on this cutting-edge, immersive programme to create innovative, sustainable agri-food solutions with expert mentorship and entrepreneurial training by UCD and Teagasc." FAST-IP is accredited by UCD at Level 9 on the National Qualifications Framework and participants who complete the programme will be awarded a Graduate Diploma in Agrifood, Innovation and Entrepreneurship. A brand-new affordable housing development is set to come on stream in Clare in the coming months. The local authority is accepting applications until March 31st for households interested in one of the 11 three-bed properties due at An Gallán Nua on the Lahinch Road. The homes will sell for a minimum €313,500, which is €50,000 below the market value; however the discount available to successful applicants will depend on their household income. Clare County Council Senior Housing Executive Padraig MacCormaic says they're already seeing huge demand.
