Every Wednesday, we share our thoughts on a newer entertainment property, and currently, that's Running Point. This episode had the entirely predictable sitcom move of "angry rant is recorded and broadcast," as well as the now-common for this show move of "Marcus saves the day." Mentioned: Grizz and Dot Com on 30 Rock, Councilman Jamm on Parks & Rec, and Take Your Child to Work Day.Next Wednesday, we'll watch season 1, episode 7, "A Special Place in Hell." We'll be back tomorrow with our weekly roundup. This episode was recorded before a live studio audience ... of dogs.

Donny and Chelsea are still broken from last week's book, so they are using their big fat mouths to tackle an elementary aged book this week: Junie B. Jones and Her Big Fat Mouth. While Junie terrorizes her family and her kindergarten class, Chelsea and Donny terrorize each other with stories of baby talk and childhood dentists. They also talk about kids from the wrong side of the tracks, biting, childhood aspirations, and getting people fired on Take Your Child to Work Day. Also, Junie is almost as much of a feminist as Donny is. For bonus episodes and unedited & unhinged audio and video recaps, subscribe to our Patreon! Mommas, You Don't Have to Take Your Child to the Pediatrician! | Robert Scott Bell Ep 102“There's no reason to have a pediatrician, except in an emergency situation and even then there are others like chiropractors, naturopaths that can aid.” On location at Goody Farms in Joplin, MO, for the Robert Scott Bell Family Union Homestead Event, Host of The Robert Scott Bell Show and Homeopathic Practitioner Robert Scott Bell takes us through how Big Business pushed out the traditional naturopath and homeopathic medicine doctors used to practice and how many parents are yearning to get back to that today.Robert also discusses the root of why parents and mothers have been convinced they have to see the pediatrician on a schedule, which can set up your child for unnecessary intervention. We talk frequently about what it means to be a mother on this podcast. But what about what it means to be a father? And how do our relationships with our father's impact us? Co-host of the Today show, anchor at NBC and author of the book "Pops: Learning to Be a Son and a Father." joins PRETTYSMART to talk about fatherhood, parenting and what his relationship with his dad has taught him about himself. He shares: Why we need to stop expecting people to become something they have no examples of. Why the hard times in his life have become what fuels him to be so successful. How the father/son bond has evolved for him over the years. The universal thing he's learned from interviewing so many dads over the years. His relationship with Al Roker and what his mentorship means to him. Why bringing his son to Take Your Child to Work Day made him so emotional. How he is breaking the generational curse and what he is doing differently with his own kids. What changed for him once he stopped molding his values to others and figured out what mattered most to him. you know the saying, “The Gerard Cosloy Radio Hour That Feels Like Two Hours Is For The Children”? No, I cannot say I have ever heard it before either, but in light of Big Thief's invitation to educators (BRING KIDS TO SOUNDCHECK - GENIUS STUFF) I am extended a similar invite to school classes, youth groups, church outings, etc. to observe THIS PROGRAM's preparation and production. I believe it was Al Jourgensen who said "a (creative) mind is terrible thing to taste" though chances are he meant "waste" and no one in his inner circle had the guts to point out the error. However, my point is rather simple --- by observing the creative process up close, DEMYSTIFYING the podcast machinations (which are so very difficult, hardly anyone can figure it out), I am perhaps ensuring a future generation grows up with some modicum of inspiration. If I can help just one young person to avoid ending up like Al Jourgensen, it will all have been worth it (though given all the time and hassle, I would really prefer it be at least a half dozen young people avoiding ending up like Al Jourgensen).

Not taking our child's behavior personally can be extremely challenging. Not only does it restimulate our own unmet needs but on some level, we might believe what they are saying is true or that they really believe we are “mean” or understand that the off-track behavior is meaningful rather than just a behavior. In this episode, I reframe those ideas and give some alternative thoughts around taking our child's unwanted behaviors and words personally. I'll give you 6 reasons why you shouldn't and the outcomes if you don't. Have you ever felt alone in your parenting, as if you were the only one struggling? As parents, we may want to shield our children from any pain or sadness they may face, but if we're honest with ourselves, we know this is impossible. So rather than fighting the inevitable, our children are better served if we work to help them understand how to weather the storm, to equip them with tools so they're capable of processing and working through the full range of emotions life has in store for them. Joining me today is Kim John Payne, author of several books, including the number 1 Best Seller Simplicity Parenting.
