This week, Alina Utrata talks to Swati Srivastava, an Associate Professor of Political Science at Purdue University and a Faculty Associate at Harvard University's Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society. They discussed Swati's work on hybrid sovereignty, private actors in global governance — and, yes, of course, Elon Musk. Listen to hear about why the classic distinctions between public and private power is much messier than we think, what discussions of sovereignty can tell us about corporate power, and what might be new about these new technology companies and algorithmic governance. “We should be able to dare criminals to use blockchain and cryptocurrency to conduct laundering. We should be able to dare them to launder on a public, unobscured ledger.” - Carole House This is a powerful statement to start off one of the most anticipated episodes of the year with one of our national security experts at Chainalysis, Eitan Danon speaking with Former White House National Security Council Special Advisor, Carole House. Carole provides her unique experience working on both sides of the biggest public private partnerships when it comes to emerging technology, crypto regulation, and national security. The Peacock and the Sparrow by I.S.Berry. Like the books of David McCloskey of which I'm so fond (Damascus Station, Moscow X) – the author I.S.Berry also worked for the CIA, which gives this book a real sense of authenticity and knowing what she's writing about. Shane Collins is a CIA operative based in Bahrain. He's jaded, nearing compulsory retirement age and has no illusions about his own shortcomings. His job in Bahrain is to feed intel back to America about Iran's involvement in an Arab spring type uprising but this is a really murky world where things might not be as they seem and everyone's expendable. Throw in the 2011 implosion of Bahrain and it's dynamite. If you like a top shelf spy thriller, look no further. This is the real deal. Jackie Public, Private, Secret by J. Randy Taraborelli. Much has been written about Jackie Kennedy Onassis, but this book expertly goes behind the scenes to tell the story of the woman who once said that she had three lives – public, private and secret. The author delves into them all, after decades of interviews with family members, friends, lovers and colleagues and the result is a very personal insight into the woman who married a serial philanderer who went on to become President; who suffered lifelong trauma after his assassination; and whose life was coloured by complex relationships, many of them under constant scrutiny by media and the world at large. It's absolutely fascinating. LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The term ‘fragility' is used to describe various complex challenges including protracted conflicts, weak state capacity, and vulnerability to climate-related shocks.Development progress has been the hardest in these contexts. But the landscape is changing, with new development players emerging – notably in the private sector. Private capital is reaching frontier economies (those in low- and middle-income countries impacted by so-called fragility), fuelled by an impact investing market of more than $1 trillion.Ahead of next week's World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, this episode examines who is shaping this new vision of development in frontier markets. Guests dissect the innovative approaches and collaborations needed to strengthen development efforts in areas affected by conflict and instability.Guests Sara Pantuliano (host), Chief Executive, ODI GlobalJake Cusack, Co-Founder and Managing Partner, CrossBoundary GroupHeike Harmgart, Managing Director for Sub-Saharan Africa, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)Andrej Kirn, Head of International Organisations and Humanitarian Agenda, World Economic ForumSurer Mohamed, Research Fellow, Politics and Governance programme, ODI GlobalRelated resourcesHumanitarian and Resilience Investing Initiative (World Economic Forum)Mobilising European Institutional Investors into Emerging Markets and Developing Economies: three critical areas to address (Insight, ODI Global)Trillions or billions? The first step in curing an addiction is to admit that there is a problem in the first place. Americans have been blissfully ignorant as their country has been dismantled, the military has been converted into an embarrassing Woke mess, the currency is being inflated away, and the Washington Blob has never been held accountable. Mel K makes the comparison between the 12-step programs that help treat addiction to drugs, alcohol, gambling, and sex, to what America must embrace if it is to turn the nation around from the abyss. The United Nations' takeover of America is well underway, the Public-Private partnerships are poised to crush the economy, and the push toward world governance will continue until the American people get honest about their addictions. According to the 2022 Annual Data Breach Report by the Identity Theft Resource Center, the number of victims has gone up nearly 41.5% from 2021. These data brokers aggregate your personal information including your names and aliases, Social Security number, login credentials, home address, location history, online activity, and much more. In a nutshell, your personal information is being sold or published online without you even knowing about it. The good news is that you have the right to protect your privacy and request that data brokers delete the information they hold about you. The bad news is that it would take you years to do it manually, just once. And you'd need to repeat the process every few months as data brokers continue collecting your data and creating new records. Incogni reaches out to data brokers on your behalf, requests your personal data removal, and deals with any objections.

Today, on Here's Where It Gets Interesting, Sharon connects with journalist and celebrity biographer, J. Randy Taraborrelli, to chat about his new book “Jackie: Public, Private, Secret.” In his book, he paints a portrait of the lesser known parts of the iconic life of Jackie Kennedy Onassis. We all know public details of her time as First Lady in the White House, and recall the historic imagery of her wearing a pink Chanel suit with the matching pink hat on the day President Kennedy was assassinated. But with only a few years spent in the White House, what fabric makes the full life of this beloved First Lady? This conversation brings to light the story of a woman's total lived experience in a way that is surprising, complex, and distinctive. Special thanks to our guest, J.
