Watch on YouTube In the next episode of Stop the Stigma, we talk to Paul Jacobs, a recovering alcoholic and drug addict. In Paul's own words, his addictions cost him virtually everything - his lucrative career, his marriage, and nearly his children. In his heart, he knew he was an addict, but it wasn't until he was at his lowest point - -23 degrees below zero at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where a doctor told him his ear, nose, and throat system was irreparably damaged as a result of his cocaine use - that Paul accepted help, or surrendered. What followed was an intense rehab process that finally got Paul sober, and today, more than five years clean, Paul helps other attorneys in crisis at TLAP. It's important for Paul to be vocal about his addiction and recovery, he says, because it lets other attorneys know they're not alone, they just need to ask for help. In retrospect, he says, if a lawyer he respected had shared their own story of recovery, Paul himself might not have felt so ashamed of asking for help. He hopes providing his story will make the difference for another attorney who is struggling. Don't let costs stop you from getting the help you need. „Už jsme zas back on track,“ říká v dalším Forbes Byznys podcastu dnešní šéf Lifeliqu a zároveň i jeho historicky první zaměstnanec Matouš Tlapák. Firma nabrala dech zejména v USA, kde dnes pomocí své platformy rekvalifikuje zaměstnance, a také v Číně, kde zrovna rozbíhá projekt do školy postavený na myšlence metaverzu.

Hey guys,This show is a little different then our usual show as we do our annual "Talk Like a Pirate" day show with our pirate expert and Canadian Navy Lieutenant Commander Rob Brunner and his wife Erica. Both are part of pirate society here in Canada and their crew called the "Cut and Run". Talk Like a Pirate day is September 19th every year internationally. This show is a bit longer than our usual show but pack full of information and fun facts about pirates!!!So Ahoy, Matey and Shiver me timbers! The cocktail we will be discussing today is called Bumbo (which yes is a rum from our rum tasting show we did that comes from Barbados). This cocktail is a spin off of the Royal Navy Grog which was rationed out each day on British navy ship back in the days!!We give you the history of how "talk Like A Pirate" day started.Bumbo rum! What is it and where does it come from? Listen to find out about this delicious rum!We go through an old school recipe (piracy era) and new school recipe of the Bumbo which has rum, water, spices, sugar and tons of flavor!Pirate legends: In this segment we give your all the juicy details about some famous pirates that we all know and grew up with in movies, books and stories. Black beard, Captain henry Morgan (yes, the guy on the rum bottle which actually didn't have a lot to do with rum til later), and Sir Francis Drake who was the first to circumnavigate the globe!!!Erica goes into great detail about two female famous pirates that had quit the adventure and maybe fouled people by dressing up as men. They had the reasons and she goes into why they did this. They also have more speculation and tales then facts on some of their journey as the history books couldn't put information together. But, it's a great story and Erica tells it to us!!Now, most important thing to do on TLAP day if anything you do is get yourself a pirate name. Rob and Erica break down their name and they challenged us to come up with ours as well. Slippy Stephens here will be my name from here on now or so be the black spot be ah cursed upon me!!! We go through just how to do and not use these typical name generators out there. Have fun with it and make your co-workers and family call you that for the day!!On "Did you know?" segment: We cover all the positions on a pirate ship and navy ship today as well that you would see. Captain, Quarter Master, Pusser, Boatswain, Carpenter (who would also be in charge of amputations...ouch), Sailing Master, Coopers, Cabin Boys and finally Powder Monkeys (not real monkeys ha ha). Links to the show:Rob Brunner's magazine article he writes about pirates and navy (in the magazine it's French on left column and English on right column and Rob's pirate name is William Blydes in the articles: https://fliphtml5.com/homepage/gybp?fbclid=IwAR0tallgpfoFbWE1kTrJzKvrPfWrEJjS7iNSCqHWju9XuQmtmjA923pEiWsRob and Erica's "Cut and Run" Youtube video on knots and pirate games: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4tn1porX-8Recipes for the show: https://tikicentralcanada.ca/recipes/So remember: dead men tell no tales and enjoy your clap of thunder!!!!
In this episode, I attempt to demonstrate the relationship between music and learning by teaching a lesson while switching up the background music. The challenge for the listener is to determine the effect these music styles had on your ability to focus, listen and learn from the "lesson".This topic has been an interest of mine for years, going back to when my wife and I used music to help our own kids learn their school lessons. That was in the days of the Mozart effect. Since then there has been a lot of research done and there is truly a connection between music and learning. I give some examples and even sing on old song that I still remember the lyrics to!Also featured is music by Koresma. I got permission to use this music because I find it puts me in a mood where I'm relaxed and open to learning. I wonder if others may feel the same way.Find Koresma on Apple Music and Spotify and on the website:https://www.koresmamusic.com

For some people, their form of "order" is disorder. A better form of order is allowed to take over only if there is a change in thinking. We need agitators in education to challenge the existence of the Status Quo. Successfuly challenging the Status Quo requires a commitment to excellence and a culture that depends on collaboration and feedback.

High stakes, long hours, big egos… Does this sound like another day at a law office or a recipe for addiction? Occupational wellness is import for everyone, especially lawyers. On this episode of RecoveryPeople, Bree Buchanan, the Director of the Texas Lawyers’ Assistance Program, talks about why the prevalence of addiction amongst attorneys is about twice that of the general population (18% vs 10%) and why concerns with alcohol problems increase with each year someone is in law schools and/or practices as an attorney. According to one study, 8% of prelaw students, 15% of first-year law school students, and 24% of third-year law students reported concerns with alcohol problems. In addition, 18% of attorneys who practiced for 2 to 20 years reported drinking problems. And the prevalence of drinking problems increase to 25% for attorneys who practiced for over 20 years. Fortunately, law students, attorneys and judges in Texas can find the confidential help they need to overcome the health hazzards of their profession through the Texas Lawyers Assistance Program (TLAP) by calling at 1-800-343-8527 any time of day or night or by going to www.TexasBar.com/TLAP to learn more. The Texas Lawyers’ Assistance Program has a statewide network of attorneys in recovery provide peer support and together with the Texas Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers they provide self help support groups.
