Join Bill for Episode 731 of the Pennsylvania Rock Show as he introduces you to The Dead End Streets and some of their yet-to-be-released music! Dubbed a “Pittsburgh Supergroup” by Scott Mervis of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, The Dead End Streets began when singer/songwriter Matt Aquiline returned to his hometown of Pittsburgh after two decades of living and performing in Washington, DC. To bring his sound home, Aquiline assembled a group of musicians with rich histories in the Pittsburgh music scene. The band released their first EP, “Coming Home,” in December 2017. They began collaborating with the horn section “The Weapons of Brass Destruction” (Greg Eggert, Hannah Veri) in 2018 with their holiday release “No Excuse Not To Have a Merry Christmas,” which featured the b-side “Climate Change Christmas.” Continuing their commentary on climate change, The Dead End Streets released the single “Snowball Fight on the 4th of July” in July 2019. They teamed up with The Weapons of Brass Destruction again for the 2020 release “The Time Has Come.” In this release, Catley is joined by legendary Pittsburgh vocalist Stevee Wellons (Soulful Femme) to deliver a powerful soul anthem for change. Their first full LP, “Seems I Survived,” was released on October 7, 2022. Scott Mervis called the title song “a twangy garage-rock anthem for the waning days of the pandemic” and compared The Dead End Streets to the legendary group “The Band.” The title track was also a semifinalist in the Song of the Year songwriting contest. The Dead End Streets blend folk, rock, blues, country, and a touch of blue-eyed soul into roots rock that is authentically Pittsburgh. Their stellar songwriting and exceptional musicianship reflect the depth and authenticity developed through surviving a few cold winters. Tune in to Episode 731 of the Pennsylvania Rock Show to learn more about The Dead End Streets, hear their upcoming music, and dive into their journey and influences. Don't miss this chance to discover a band that embodies the heart and soul of Pittsburgh's vibrant music scene. It's been 20 years since the hugely influential Max Payne first released. That means 20 years of film noir-aping, Slow-mo-diving, metaphor-chewing, fourth wall-breaking, painkiller-popping action. Join us for a raucous ride through the game's story as we discuss the numerous plot twists, unrelenting action, bullet time brilliance and debate whether the whole thing still holds up today. Oh, and the song at the end is Snowball Fight by the amazing Hyper Potions, so if you want excitement (and rad music), shove them up your stockings. Merry Christmas everyone!
EPISODE 48 | Ice Ice Baby - Songs of Ice & Snow Baby, it's cold outside. That sentiment is not just part of a kind of rapey Xmas song, but a fact brought about by the ROUND Earth orbiting the sun in the way that it does and tilting on its axis. To mangle a phrase – winter has come. And with winter comes ice and snow, at least at the latitudes closer to the poles. And even here, in this brittle transparent crystalline solid, usually water, you can snow shovel up some conspiracy theories. We'll look at nature used as an insult, snow that burns, the World Ice Theory, Ice Ages that are coming (or already here), buried mountains, Nazis in Antarctica, alien vegetables, Easter Island and more. LAFC was back at the Banc for an MLS match for the first time on over a month, so that means the boys of Defenders of the Banc are back with another jam-packed recap episode here on the podcast! It's time for Episode 42 of Defenders of the Banc!As we wish a very happy birthday to our newest young star, Pablo Sisniega, we recap the incredible 6-1 win over the Traveling Marc dos Santos's, the Vancouver Whitecaps. In what was certainly a change from our last encounter, LAFC got the exchange rate right in peppering Whitecaps goalie Maxime Crepeau with over 30 shots! LAFC used an incredibly different back line, with Eddie Segura the only usual starter. Dejan Jakovic, Tristan Blackmon, and Mohamed El-Munir not only filled in admirably but barely missed a beat. We also saw the first... oops moment... in the LAFC career of San Pablo Sisniega and the first appearance of Fito Zelaya at the Banc! Shout out to The 3252 for providing the first Fito chant and for the return of the Diego Rossi chant! It was an incredible night, starting with the fantastic Canadian National Anthem provided by Kimberly Caldwell-Harvey and the Navy Seal Parachute Team. On this episode, hear Filly's incredible combination of alliterations, metaphors, similes, and a Black Plague sounding cough! Hear The Scarf's rant on Facebook and Fito (shout out to Josh Albrektson) while learning a new Spanish word! Each of the boys throws out their own Hulkamania impression while they come down from the excitement of meeting the legendary Figgy from Instagram. Man it feels good to be back at the Banc!Enjoy this episode in-between an incredible Sunday of soccer, with the Women's World Cup final, the Copa America final, and the Gold Cup final ALL on the same day! Thanks for supporting the podcast, and for being one of the Defenders of the Banc.
Today we start out by sharing some "Good Stuff" from our past week or so. What we mean by good stuff is simply just stories or experiences in life that make us realize the good in the world. More often than not people tend to focus on the negatives of life. This world is not only full of negatives such as sin, anger, failures, and depression, but it is full of good stuff. That is the meaning of this podcast, to share our experiences of good things in the world with our listeners and help them see the good in the world. If it makes you laugh, smile or even feel all fuzzy we have accomplished our mission. We then discuss some of our childhood stories with you guys. Zac shares a story that defines his pyromaniac tendencies. Adam shares a story of how he was in an all-out snowball war.Email us at "awkwardadampodcast@gmail.com"

Musik: Dee Yan-Key "Snowball Fight".

On its way past the comet, the Deep Impact spacecraft flew through a storm of fluffy ice particles spewed out by carbon dioxide jets coming from the rough ends of the comet and through water vapor flowing from its smooth, middle portion as well as from the icy particles. Data and images from the fly-by shed new light on the nature of comets. Schultz and graduate student Brendan Hermalyn discuss what they saw.

In today's show I talk about two sheep breeds, and lots of snow. I have added a segment to the spin-in shows to share with the listeners my spinning studies of different breeds of sheep. This started out as rare breed sheep only, but expanded into just about any breed that I have had a chance to sample fleece. Today's two breeds are Border Leicester, and Blue Face Leicester. All music in the show is from the Podsafe music network. The first musical interlude is Snowfall by Rada Neal. Snow's No Fun At All is song by the Danny Daughtridge Trio. Dreams of a Snowman, was used as the musical interlude during yarnspinner's tale, and was provided by: No Plastic Inside. And TV's Kyle is back again, with Snowball Fight. The next podcast will be about just how I take that great big fleece from the sheep and sort it in preparation to washing it. Thanks for listening!
