Chris Ritter, the co-owner of Oakland United Beerworks, never thought he'd make a profession out of brewing. He had always loved beer but was a lawyer by training. Brewing was his son Andrew's great passion. From a young age, Andrew always knew he wanted to make beer. After college, he got into the industry and eventually became the lead brewer of his own brewery. Everything changed for the Ritter family, however, when Andrew was diagnosed with ALS. When he passed away at the age of just 31, his parents made the difficult decision to keep the brewery going as a tribute to his memory. They have also dedicated themselves to helping end ALS as longtime participants and advocates for the Ales for ALS™ program – which supports research at ALS TDI through craft beer. Today, Chris joins us to share how he's working to honor his son's legacy and stay active in the fight against ALS.Support the show: https://www.als.net/donate/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

At RITTER Sports Performance we've been building remote dryland workouts for swimmers and swim teams, via app, for over a decade. But we knew that just sending programs wasn't going to make a big enough impact. Yes, the swimmers and swim teams we work with have seen results. But especially as the shutdown started, it became clear to us that there's a long way to go in terms of dryland knowledge in the swimming community. That's where SURGE Strength comes into play. This dryland specific brand, website, and offerings have allowed us to continue to pursue our purpose of “Raising the Standard in Dryland Training for Swimming.”

There's a reputation that big Madison Avenue creative advertising agencies care more about winning awards than they care about growing their clients' revenue. This isn't always true, of course. As you'll discover in this episode, creative agencies can offer a powerful and impactful way of connecting with prospective customers and starting a relationship between them and a brand. This often starts by humanizing the brand. Chris Ritter is the Creative Director and Co-Founder of C-90, a creative design agency moving at the speed of culture and refusing the status quo. Chris and the team at creative agency C-90 created a mock advertising campaign inspired by the recent reversal of Roe v. Wade. Will C-90's tongue-in-cheese signs help ‘Choose Life' proponents reverse their approach? And more importantly, is that cool? “We decided that we were going to do a campaign that looks very similar to the ‘Choose Life' signs, which are very distinctive, and have a pro-cheese campaign called ‘Cheese Life.'" How can graphic design and branding enhance the built environment? Often we discuss the importance of the architectural design within a project, or perhaps the structural engineering and mechanical engineering as critical components to the success of an architectural project - however, I've often wondered how graphic design and branding can enhance architectural projects and the built environment? I am joined by Chris Ritter, a Director of C-90, a creative agency and culture lab serving clients that need to be noticed to explore this subject. Northern Michigan University (NMU) recently asked C-90 to create a visual identity to increase their visibility and public awareness; it presented a fascinating design problem. Join us in an open discussion on how C-90 approached the brief of enhancing the built environment of NMU and the broader question of how graphic design and branding can improve the built environment. He'd just gained 3000 subscribers and made $8000 in a matter of days, but Chris Ritter's first virtual summit didn't deliver the result was looking for. As a personal trainer for swimmers, he was looking for more clients to coach online. Not a single one signed up. Still, the summit was a serious turning point in his business--one that turned into a 6-figure side project in its first year. He started serving an entirely different set of customers, and went from working one-on-one to one-to-many. Note: Click here to download Chris' top tips from this episode. His multi-year journey includes in-person personal training, seeking online clients, writing blog posts, selling an e-book, hosting a hit virtual summit, and more. Listen in because you’ll pick up some tactics and ideas you can apply to your own side hustle as this is one that’s ripe for replication across different niches. It’s a story about leveling up your reach and impact and income, and evidence that opportunities start to appear once you’re in motion.

The Carver s General Manager, Chris Ritter, joins Peter Ricchiuti for lunch. Scott Aiges is Program Director, and Director of Marketing and Communications at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation the folks who own Jazz Fest.
