Mark Clavey sent this picture right after St Patrick's Day 2024: “Hi Marc! Here's our write - up for how we spent St Pat's at O'Malley's Pub... and a few pictures... "There was more March Madness for the band this past Sunday as we celebrated the Day of the Festival of St Patrick with a noon - performance at O'Malley's Pub(Episode 136). The day started around 10:00a as the band started straggling in and setting up. It was a brisk 40° when we loaded in, and would reach a balmy 48° when we loaded out at 4:30. Early - birds had already formed a line by 10:30 – despite the fact that the Pub wouldn't open until 11:30. (This plan was well - advised given the epic proportions of Snake Saturday's one - person - out/one - person - in crowd.) By the time the band started playing at noon, the bar was full and the crowd lively – being more vocal for the sing - alongs than they were for the toasts. There was a larger - than - usual number of Tullamore - fans than is typical for St Patrick's Day (as it was at lunchtime on a Sunday rather than a workday). Shout - outs to Mike, Amy, Anna, and Jason; Ray and Carrie; Eric and Dena; Eric, Linda, and Eleanor; Trey; Connie, Brandie and Rhonda; Shannon; Rob and Mitch; Andrew; Lisa, Craig, Ed, and Mary; Mikayla; and Jenn. Mark successfully navigated the afternoon notwithstanding the return of his chest - supercold (that knocked him out of the February weekend) and having sliced up the index - finger on his strumming hand. (Evidently, while holding a pick between the thumb and the bird - finger is a doable thing, it DOES produce a Charlie - horse at the base of the thumb when you do it for three hours straight.) Said navigation was aided with the Black Bush providing the kind of lubrication that makes your engine tick. We played until 3:30 before turning the stage over to The Kelihans – who would, in turn, hand off the stage to Chance the Arm at 8:00p. In the meantime, Ryan Rancudo and Bob Reeder handled the St Patrick's Day festivities for the audience in the upper cellar. Overall, it was a great afternoon and (we're assuming) a great night as well. (Photos courtesy of Amy Cripe, Mike Moran, and Mary Hanover.)" Best, - Mark”
For Christmas this year I FINALLY got my Bluetooth receiver for my car! This means I can now start my day listening to the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast on my daily commute! My commute to work being only 20 to 30 minutes, I get to travel home listening to it too! I have just finished listening to your Celtic - Christmas episode, and was very impressed with the tunes - especially the creative arrangements. These gave me so many ideas for future arrangements with my Celtic Music band, FitzBlarney. We actually began as an ‘Acoustic - Celtic Christmas' trio, (comprised of myself and my two sisters.) Since then, we have taken on my brother and brother - in - law, and also play non - Christmas, Irish/Celtic music. In fact, this past December, we were asked to play at the Historic Salem ‘House Tour.” In essence, people with historic houses open them up to the public to walk through and see their Christmas displays. Musicians, ( like ourselves, ) set - up and create some Christmassy background music. This year, we were playing in the chapel of St. Peter's Church, (founded in 1733!) We also did our “Acoustic Brunch,” at O'Neill's Pub, also in Salem, MA. (I have attached a couple' pictures for you!) Thank you again for all you do! My commutes sound great now!" Tim Hughes sent a photo: "while walking our tri - pawed dog, Kinder, on the bike path on a wintry morning in Madison, WI."

Marjie Kennedy replied to the Celtic Music Magazine feedback request: "I wanted to let you know that on March 17th I will be at the Hibernian parade in the Dogtown neighborhood of St. Louis Missouri. St. Louis has two parades each year because the Dogtown one is on March 17 every year, and the downtown St. Louis one is always the Saturday before St. Patrick's Day (unless the 17th falls on a Saturday, in which case I think they end up both being the same day). I will listen to your podcasts either before or after those festivities. And this past Sunday, March 12, I celebrated by including some Celtic music and other Irish tunes on the radio program that I host on KDHX.org called Lotsa A Cappella. Thanks for all you do for Celtic music!" Tera Bochik replied: "I'm usually driving around doing my patrol rounds as a security guard. Unfortunately I have to work on St. Patrick's day. (Missing the First Annual 20th World's Shortest St. Patrick's Day parade in Hot Springs, AR.) I celebrate by listening and sharing about the podcast to anyone who asks what I'm listening to." Von Rothenberger replied from Lucas, Kansas: "Happy Birthday! Erin Go Braugh! Thank you for all that you do." Rick Cunningham of Boxing Robin replied: "Hello Marc, Many thanks for including Boxing Robin on Vol 2 of the St. Patrick's Day podcast! Have fun at the gig tonight - we're playing 80 miles away but at least it's a fairly early gig! All the best. Tom McHugh sent a photo: "Hello Marc, One of the things I like to do while listening is make pens. The first picture is a Celtic - themed ballpoint pen I recently completed. The second picture is what two pens I recently made looked like while they were still on the lathe at our local makerspace. Thanks for making the podcast! I've very must enjoyed listening to all the new music!"

Rob emailed Greetings from the Snowy North: "Good day Celt Father, I just to want to say thank you for the amazing musical offerings, it makes shoveling the winter snow a much more pleasant experience, and to ask for a favor. After replacing my phone some apps did not make the transfer successfully. Since than I have a song stuck in my head that I cannot track down and I swear that it was from an episode of the podcast. I did some digging and matched up the lyrics to "The Barroom Girls" by Gillian Welch but I can not find the version that played on the podcast. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you again for a wonderful podcast and thank you again for the motivational snow shoveling music." Daphne Arthur of the Homespun Ceilidh Band sent holiday greetings last month: "I've been saving up all the Christmas - themed episodes of music podcasts until the actual start of Christmastide, so I'll have them to listen to during the twelve days, so on the first day of Christmas, I was listening to #586 while waiting for my after - Christmas - dinner tea to steep, and making sure Guillaume didn't accidentally burn his tail on my teeny tiny, improvised Advent wreath. Enjoying the music, as always! Merry Christmas to you and yours!" Leti and Rodolfo emailed: "The best time to listen to Celtic music is ...during breakfast! Hi Marc, This is Leti and Rodolfo from Madrid, Spain. We always listen to your podcasts while we have our banana and oats pancake breakfast on weekends. It has become a kind of a ritual and we really enjoy the music and the food before going out for a walk in the country. Keep up the good work. Thanks a million!"
In this week's episode, Eric and Justin discuss the relationship between lyrics and music. This relationship is what can cause a disconnect between students and directors. Simply because of a lack of knowledge or willingness to check out the newest sound in music. Eric and Justin discuss the barrier that can be in our band hall and programs with specific ways to tear down this wall and create more lanes of connectivity and community in any program. Tune in and check out this week's episode. Enjoy and share!!!
