A conductor who has been making a name for himself in both Australia and Europe, Sam Weller has conducted top tier orchestras including the Rotterdam Philharmonic, the Orchestra of the 18th Century and the Dutch Radio Philharmonic, as well as our own Adelaide, Tasmanian, West Australian and Queensland Symphony Orchestras. In a wide-ranging conversation that moves from bold contemporary programming to the realities of building an international career, Sam works between Sydney and Amsterdam, and continues to develop Ensemble Apex, the group he founded as a student. Their upcoming program Behind Me is the Dark reflects his fascination with contrast, texture, and the meeting point of sound and visual design – an approach that speaks to his broader aim of making concerts feel immediate, immersive, and alive for audiences today. Sam also reflects on his musical beginnings, from playing saxophone at Newtown High School of the Performing Arts to an early, eye-opening experience conducting his school orchestra at the Sydney Opera House as a teenager. He speaks candidly about the steep learning curve of conducting, the influence of mentors and collaborators, and the ever-expanding possibilities of orchestral sound. Thoughtful and honest, Sam offers insight into both the craft of conducting and the mindset required to navigate a fast-moving, global musical life.Sam Weller conducts Ensemble Apex for Behind Me is the Dark at ACO on the Pier on 1-2 April.

The radio industry is highly competitive, and most broadcasters don't get the chance to part ways with their employer on their own accord (ask Kyle Sandilands). Our guest on The Experts podcast moved stations on his own terms and he couldn't be happier. Oliver Peterson was the Drive presenter on 6PR for 10 years before making the move to local rival ABC in the same role. Oli as he is affectionately known in Perth, is the youngest talkback radio host in the country and at the same time a veteran for the timeslot. He talks about his love of radio, his wonderful years spent at his now rival 6PR, and the gratitude he has to be able to do the job he loves. He is living the dream. Switching to ABC Drive wasn't an easy decision, but it was the right move for him both professionally, and for his family. He just loves talking to West Australians on their drive home. There's not a lot of change to the daily approach for the show, but there are small adjustments. No advertisements, he gets to play music, and the program is shorter, which compared to his old gig at 6PR isn't a bad compromise. You can hear how inspired he is, and how much enthusiasm and energy he has in the podcast - he is happy.

A revered name in modern Australian tennis, Casey Dellacqua is universally admired for her on-court achievements, commentary insights and humility through success. The West Australian-turned-Sydneysider played eight Grand Slam finals through her peak, claiming the French Open mixed doubles title in 2011. A famous partnership with Ash Barty delivered finals at all four Slams, but her name first went up in lights after a defeat of Amelie Mauresmo and a fourth-round run at AO 2008. Her singles career is oft underappreciated; Dellacqua progressed to at least the third round at every major. The former world No.26 stepped into Pod Lover Arena to tell Matt and Viv about the moment that flipped her career "on its head", victories she claimed through periods of physical and emotional turmoil and her current life with the "best job in the world".Listen to the full episode here. Talking Tigers pays a special tribute to Kamdyn McIntosh on this week’s show. The TT team recount their memories, both on-field and off-field, of the dual premiership Tiger who played his last game for the Club in the final home-and-away round of the 2025 season and tell why he is such a great Richmond man. Also, in the latest episode of the Club’s podcast juggernaut, there’s plenty of praise for much-improved Tiger key defender Ben Miller, as well as Sam Banks, Tylar Young, Taj Hotton and Seth Campbell. The “Going up the Country” segment focuses on a West Australian coastal town where a Richmond excitement machine of the late-1980s-early 1990s hailed from. “60 Years of MCG Memories” features the Tigers’ glorious, drought-breaking 1967 premiership triumph. While, in “Hidden Tigerland”, club historian Rhett Bartlett has fascinating details on Richmond’s decision to forfeit a Grand Final during its VFA days. For all things Yellow and Black, tune in to Talking Tigers.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
