Jede achte Frau erkrankt im Laufe ihres Lebens an Brustkrebs. Je früher man das erkennt, desto höher sind die Überlebenschancen. In Deutschland werden deshalb Frauen zwischen 50 und 75 Jahren alle zwei Jahre zum sogenannten Mammographie-Screening eingeladen. Dabei wird die Brust geröntgt. Viele Frauen sind aber skeptisch gegenüber dieser Untersuchung. Mehr als zehn Jahre lang haben Forschende nun die Wirksamkeit des Früherkennungsprogramms untersucht. On the east coast of Australia, koalas are officially considered an endangered animal. In the past 20 years, the number of cute marsupials in Queensland has shrunk by half, in NSW by over 60 percent. In the long term, the conservation of this animal species, which is so iconic for Australia, is at stake. One place where the focus is on raising koalas is Wilhelma in Stuttgart. The unique zoological-botanical garden in the capital of Baden-Württemberg has seen offspring among koalas in recent months. Wilhelma Director, Dr Thomas Kölpin says raising young koala animals is a challenging task. - An der Ostküste Australiens werden Koalas offiziell zu den bedrohten Tieren gezählt. In den vergangenen 20 Jahren ist die Zahl der possierlichen Beuteltiere in Queensland um die Hälfte geschrumpft, in NSW sogar um über 60 Prozent. Langfristig steht die Erhaltung dieser, für Australien so ikonischen Tierart auf dem Spiel. Ein Ort, wo die Aufzucht der Koalas im Fokus steht, ist die Wilhelma in Stuttgart. Der einzigartige zoologisch-botanische Garten in der Hauptstadt von Baden-Württemberg verzeichnete in den vergangenen Monaten Nachwuchs bei den Koalas.
