Wondering how can enhancing customer experience lead to exponential growth in your retail business? In this episode of 7-8 Figure Special Series I interviewed Youssef Botros.Although Youssef didn't initially have a clear idea of his future career, he always knew he was destined to make a positive impact on the world. Throughout his extensive career in retail, Youssef consistently excelled by developing a passion for training, self-development, and creating efficient systems to deliver consistent results in both sales and operations. His first significant opportunity to showcase these skills came when he was appointed General Manager for a WIND Mobile franchise. Over three years, he successfully opened seven locations, establishing one of the top franchise operations in Canada. After building a thriving retail operation, Youssef decided to pivot and moved to Montreal to pursue a career in financial planning. However, fate had other plans. A chance encounter with his former boss led to a proposal to revolutionize the smartphone repair industry in Canada by reinventing the customer experience. Seizing the opportunity, Youssef joined Mobile Klinik Professional Smartphone Repair in May 2015 as Employee #1. During his tenure, he developed the company's processes, in-store systems, and led the Training and Development department, supporting both new and existing stores. In just six years, Youssef played a key role in expanding Mobile Klinik to over 90 locations, making it the largest and most trusted smartphone repair chain in Canada. In 2020, Telus acquired the business for $165 million, marking the pinnacle of Youssef's career. However, while Youssef was celebrating the success of Mobile Klinik, the COVID-19 pandemic presented significant challenges for many business owners around him. Witnessing these struggles, Youssef felt a strong desire to use his expertise to help others overcome obstacles and grow their businesses. This realization led him to establish GRND Consulting, a company dedicated to helping business owners scale their operations into multi-location brands by focusing on purpose, passion, and process.Learn how to leverage customer experience to drive your retail brand forward. Having grown up in a quiet, calm Prairie life with a loving family, Brice decided at an early age to pursue his life path in larger settings with the goal of making a larger impact. With his partner Anthony Lacavera, he spent many long grinding years building Wind Mobile within a fierce, unforgiving and oligopolistic space. After finally selling the company with his partner for well over $1 billion, Brice began to reflect on his experience on the importance of staying resilient: sticking to the mission and simply putting one foot in front of the other. Listen to how he and his partner today are now devoting their professional horsepower to helping new entrepreneurs all over North America to innovate, create and build in the new economy. His focus area at Globalive. The biggest takeaways and learnings as a finance leader and entrepreneur that he's now leveraging as an investor, including things that he wishes he knew as a finance leader / entrepreneur. An inside look at WIND Mobile's sale process to Shaw and his biggest takeaways from the multi-billion dollar exit. WIND was truly an amazing scaleup story. The company had over 1,200 employees, 900,000 subscribers and generated approximately $500 million in revenue and $80 million in EBITDA in 2015, prior to selling to Shaw Communications for approximately $1.6 billion in December 2015. This week on the SyrupCast, Rose Behar and Igor Bonifacic are joined by Christine Dobby, telecom reporter at the Globe and Mail, and Daniel Bader, managing editor at Android Central, to take a look back the major Canadian telecom developments of 2017, with a focus on Freedom Mobile. A lot has changed over the course of 2017 in terms of Canada's telecom ecosystem. One of the most significant shifts in the space involves Canadian carrier unlocking fees being stopped by the CRTC. Freedom Mobile also underwent significant changes this year, with the carrier rebranding from Wind Mobile to Freedom Mobile, following Shaw's acquisition of the company back in 2015. With the CRTC unlocking fee ban recently going into effect, Freedom jumped at the opportunity to acquire new customers from the larger competitors in the Canadian telecom space. Freedom introduced a new, highly competitive plan that offered 10GB of data for $50, and in an unprecedented move, other major carriers and flanker brands responded with similar offers. The ensuing deal madness saw Canadians trying to take advantage of the offers being stuck in long lineups and customer service reps being overwhelmed with calls. Finally, and this may be the most important news of all, the Freedom Bear has officially retired. Tune in to hear the SyrupCast team's thoughts. On this episode of the SyrupCast, the entire MobileSyrup team squeezes into the podcast studio for a year end wrap up of their favourite tech stories from 2016. MobileSyrup director of social media Zach Gilbert is up first and discusses Blackberry's rocky 2016. The company has undergone drastic changes over the course of the past year, from handing off hardware production to TCL, to focusing its future on autonomous cars and software security, leaving the team to predict that 2017 will see a very different BlackBerry emerging from the embers. Staff writer Rose Behar selects the Samsung Note 7 to reminisce in her segment. Although Samsung had battery combustion problems with the Note 7, rumours regarding the impending release of the S8 are already circulating. MobileSyrup staff writer Jessica Vomiero does a deep dive into Canadian cybersecurity. Between rulings from the CRTC and the liberal government's approach to CSIS collecting data, the entire team agrees that 2017 will be a year where Canadians need to think carefully about their data privacy. Senior editor Patrick O'Rourke, in true Pokémaster fashion, brings Pokémon Go into the conversation as his favourite story of the year. The augmented reality app that brought the nostalgia of Pokémon to smartphones, has not seen continued growth following its initial boon in popularity, though the developer behind the game, Niantic, is starting to add new features to the mobile title at a rapid pace. Senior editor Igor Bonifacic directs the conversation to the successful year Microsoft has had. Apple has been at the forefront of the post-PC era, but 2016 saw releases from both Microsoft and Apple that hint at the end of Apple's reign. Ian Hardy, MobileSyrup's founder and publisher, chose Freedom Mobile as his favourite mobile tech news development of 2016. The company, formerly known as Wind Mobile, rebranded late in 2016 and launched its own LTE network. And Wind Mobile has reduced its subsidy from $150 to $100 in response to the popularity of Bring Your Own Device?
