This talk covers an extensive list of Sutta. Right Livelihood is 'fifth' under the Noble Eightfold Path. Sis Sylvia Bay explains that it's not simply about Right and/or Wrong Livelihood. Rather, Right Livelihood sits on precepts and must not be unpinned by any of the ten akusala kamma activities and not driven by lobha (greed/desire) and dosa (anger/ill-will/agitation). Instead, we need to cultivate dāna (generosity/giving), sīla (morality), bhāvanā (wisdom, morality and concentration) and our attitude should be one of empathy to others and not inflict on others what you would not inflict on ourselves. Sis Sylvia further explains that one must avoid staining the mind, must cultivate kusala (wholesomeness), restrain akusala (unwholesomeness); respect others, be kind and gentle, be considerate of another's feelings, etc. A practitioner will always have a sense of both hiri (moral conscience of shame) and ottappa (fear of moral shame) as guiding principles to safeguard our body, speech and mind. Using these key principles, one will be able to assess whether both the job and one's own attitude draws one closer to Dhamma or further away. Jason Lazarus: Too Hard to Keep (Syracuse)April 4 – May 31, 2013Kathleen O. Ellis Gallery at Light WorkGallery Talk: Thursday, April 4, 5pmReception: Thursday, April 4, 5-7pm—In 2010 Chicago-based artist Jason Lazarus initiated a growing archive of photos deemed “too hard to keep.” T.H.T.K. (Too Hard to Keep) is a place for photographs, photo-objects, and even digital files to exist when they are too difficult to hold on to, yet too meaningful to destroy. Participants have dictated whether the photographs submitted to the archive may be shown freely with other pieces of the archive, or if they are only to be displayed face down, adding to the charged significance of each object. Out of this expanding collection site-specific installations occur. With T.H.T.K. (Syracuse) Lazarus shares a slice of the larger archive alongside anonymous local submissions in a carefully considered installation at Light Work.lg.ht/10taTHO—Jason Lazarus is a Chicago-based artist, curator, writer, and educator who received his MFA in Photography from Columbia College Chicago in 2003. Lazarus has actively exhibited around the country and abroad while teaching photography at Columbia College and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Stampede Blue: for Indianapolis Colts fans

The Indianapolis Colts had a lot working against them before they ever stepped on the field in Pittsburgh Sunday. But, things got more difficult in a hurry with the loss of Jacoby Brissett, and Ryan Kelly in the first half. Still, the Colts had an opportunity to win on the road and a missed field goal attempt proved to be the difference in the game as the Colts fell to the Steelers 26-24. With T.Y. Hilton out at least for the next few weeks, the Colts had to make due with a largely inexperienced wide receiver corps. Deon Cain wasn't able to make anything happen on his two targets (one a drop), however, aside from a handful of drops by the pass-catchers, the unit wasn't a detriment to the team in spite of the loss of Hilton in the lineup. The team did stack up a healthy dose of costly penalties, wasn't able to win the turnover battle, and simply gave up too many free points which proved to be the nail in the coffin for the team on the road. But, it wasn't all bad either. The Colts defense held the Steelers to 4.5 yards per play, 1-of-4 in the red zone, and was able to hold them to 5-of-13 on third down opportunities. This is the fourth game in a row in which the defense has been a positive for the Colts, yet the team continues to be in dog fights and have now had all of their games decided by one score. The Colts' luck simply ran out in that category in Week 9. Parris Campbell had a nice game, Brian Hoyer did about as well as one could expect given his limitations, and Marlon Mack ran well behind an offensive line that has been failing to protect in the pass game or block efficiently in the running game recently. The Colts had multiple opportunities, but simply weren't good enough with sub-par overall play, and minus their top players at some pretty important positions. The Colts are now 5-3 (2-0 in AFC South) and are still in good shape if they can bounce back and win games they're supposed to win from here on out. The Colts host the Miami Dolphins in Week 10, and need an impressive win to regain the confidence of the fan base to get back on track. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

If you've wondered why we're getting sicker and unhealthier, despite the latest in medicine, pharmaceuticals, nutracueticals, DNA testing, diets and supplements, then do we have the show for you! Today we'll be talking With T. Colin Campbell, PhD Professor Emeritus of Nutritional Biochemistry at Cornell University and coauthor of the bestselling book, The China Study and his latest book WHOLE. His legacy, the China-Cornell-Oxford Project, has been acknowledged as the most comprehensive study of health and nutrition ever conducted. He's also authored more than 300 peer-reviewed research papers. Today I want to talk about why the emperor has no clothes, or why the studies, the science, and the medicine we've come to love and trust, may not be quite what we think they are, especially when it comes to nutrition. But then I want to empower us, and talk about what works, why, and what we can do to live happier, healthier, and quite possibly long lives, and even return to perfect health, despite having disease, or even the Big C. Plus we'll talk about apples, dairy farms, peanuts, and what in the world four blind men and an elephant have to do with anything. Questions and Topics Include: Why protein may not be what we think it is. What peanuts have to do with protein and liver cancer. Why families in the Philippines who had ‘adequate' protein were the ones more likely to get cancer How protein was acting as a catalyst for cancer How he T Colin Campbell spent 27 years researching how protein causes cancer Why ‘getting enough protein' is a myth Why ‘high quality' protein can turn on cancer cells faster. Are there any studies that show protein deficiency? Why the more protein we get in, the less nutrition we have in our diet.  What is wholism? (Vegan & Vegetarian) Why T Colin Campbell wrote Whole Why separating the vitamins from the plant doesn't work Why vitamin E supplements have been shown to cause cancer Why biological complexity cannot be overemphasized (and what that really means) Why there's no such thing as a side-effect with medicine, only effects Why the #1 cause of death is nutritional ignorance Why health is NOT all about our genes What the statistics say on the war on cancer? Why according to T. Colin Campbell, most professionals would say the war on cancer has largely failed. Why ‘targeted drug therapy' is wrong Two films to check out, Fork over Knives and “Plant Pure Nation” (Vegan & Vegetarian) What is ‘The China Study' and what does it mean for us today. Why protein causes chemistry in rats. What allowed T. Colin Campbell to take a big picture approach and see the importance of Nature What the results of the China Study were Why cholesterol levels were so incredibly low Why there was no heart disease in many populations What is a Whole Foods Plant Based diet? What does it include and exclude? Why you don't want to eat white rice Why you don't want to eat vegetable oil Why supplements aren't as healthy as we thought they were Why mineral supplements may not be necessary, but may be a good hedge against depleted soil. What would T Colin Campbell say to a friend diagnosed with cancer? What is a study that T. Colin Campbell is looking for funding for? What is the Plant Based Nutrition Program? Welcome to Epi76 of Succotash, the Comedy Podcast Podcast. To start off, and I've mentioned this on the show before, I don’t understand why some podcasts have “seasons”, like on television, or how they determine how many episodes constitute said seasons or why. It’s all quite arbitrary. But I have decided that we are going to start following this obtuse convention so welcome to the first season of Succotash, already in progress. This is episode 76, which means there are only 23 episodes left before the big season finale! That’s right. You heard it here first: Episode 100 will be this show’s season closer. Maybe we’ll make it a big deal. A live show somewhere, with lots of guests, lots of podcasters calling in and sending in messages. It’s a ways off, of course. At the rate I drop episodes, we’re looking at next summer sometime. A great time for a season finale! Or maybe it will be just me, huddled in my car in the pre-dawn light, trying not to wake the neighbors as I talk to you, our loyal listener. Our show mostly has made its bones playing clips of comedy podcasts from around the world but we also feature interviews. This week our Special Guest is Chris Mancini. This is last of my official LA Podcast Festival interviews – it’s only taken two months to get through them all – and Chris is one of the creators and organizers of the PodFest. Chris is also co-host of the Comedy Film Nerds podcast, along with Graham Elwood, a previous guest on this show. The Comedy Film Nerds podcast is a spinoff, more or less, from the Comedy Film Nerds website and also the book of the same name.. The website focuses on film reviews by both Chris and Graham but slso a number of contributors, including Dean Haglund and Matt Weinhold, both of whom have appeared on Succotash. Their book is more about film genres, with their contributors tackling everything from horror to romantic comedies. We managed to corner Chris in a corner of the Podcast Lab at the PodFest and spend about 10 minutes chatting about how things were going and their plans for the future of the Fest. The Fest Future, if you will. WHAT ELSE? In addition to a pile of podcast clips (due in no small part to our Honorary Associate Producer Tyson Saner!), this epi also features a DOUBLE Burst O' Durst with our resident raging moderate, comedy Will Durst. Also, we have a holiday poem, Black Friday, by friend-of-Succotash and contributor Chet Hasse. And I talk a little bit about my appearance in Epi4 of a strange little web series called The Funster, produced and starring friend of the show Dana Carvey. Here's the video: TEN MOST ACTIVE IN THE STITCHER TOP 100 COMEDY PODCASTS LIST In this week's list, there's a podcast from England that jumped an astounding 1139 spots to get up into the Top 100! Called The Trev & Ben Show, from Cryodon Radio, we also sliced off a taste during the podcast. But here's the whole list for the week: 21. The Black Guy Who Tips Podcast +940. The Comedy Button +3650. Out Of The Box +15163. The Trev & Ben Show +113973. SModcast >> Edumacation -1275. SModcast > FEaB -2278. Sawbones: A Marital Tour of Misguided Medicine -1379. Dining With Doug & Karen +1482. Cashing in With T.J. Miller +3194. Jim Florentine’s Metal Comedy Midgets -13 THE CLIPS Comedy Film NerdsThe Comedy Film Nerds podcast is a spinoff, more or less, from the Comedy Film Nerds website and also the book. Hosts Chris Mancini and Graham Elwood frequently have guests on the podcast but recently it was just the two guys and, in the clip we're featuring, they have a letter from a listener setting them straight on a movie-based issue. Improv 4 HumansUsually Matt Besser’s Improv 4 Humans is Matt and his guests improvising audio scenes based on listener’s suggestions. In this clip, Matt and one of his guests, Chris Gore, from PodCRASH, discuss the core essence of what improvisation is about, beyond the simple “yes and” belief that’s floating out there for years. Pep TalksThe week before last I reviewed Eddie Pepitone’s new podcast Pep Talks, part of the All Things Comedy Network, for Splitsider’s This Week In Comedy Podcasts. He’s just getting started, after years as one of the four hosts for The Longshot Podcast. Now it’s just Eddie, his head and also usually an interview guest. This clip is from his second episode, where he chats with Canadian comedian Glenn Wool, but what I’ve got here is from more of a one-man audio sketch Eddie did before the interview began. Don’t Quit Your DaycastWe haven’t checked in with podcaster and longtime listener and supporter Ed Wallick over at Don’t Quit Your Daycast in a while. He recently hit his episode 50 after being off for a bit due to health reasons. But he’s back and still doling out his Asshat Of The Week award! Doug Loves MoviesOur friend Tyson Saner clipped out part of a recent Doug Loves Movies episode. I do enjoy DLM but I somehow missed this moment when Doug Benson had Bert Kreischer, Lauran Lupus and Clare Kramer on and, partway through "The Leonard Maltin Game", Doug puts his spin on an idea that Bert had, and then Bert can’t stop laughing. The Comedy BuffetGot a note from Michael Powell, the "Tycoon of Comedy" and host over at The Comedy Buffet Podcast, who says, “Hey Marc, all your hard work has inspired me to put in at least a half assed effort in return. I finally pulled a clip from our show for you again. This is Episode 114 with special guest Mike Hammock, fill in co-host Steve Vanderploeg and our new co-host and pun meister Rick DeSimone…I know you took us to task last time I sent in a clip. We have still not done much with the website. So our official tag line is "Another comedy podcast? This can't possibly fail!" Are you ready? Here come some cow puns… The Todd Glass ShowI find comedian Todd Glass not only funny but an engaging podcast host. Our Honorary Associate Producer Tyson Saner found a great clip of Todd with guest Whitmer Thomas from “Power Violence”, which Tyson refers to a “Anti-Improv”. See for yourself how well it works… Please don’t forget to rate and review us up on iTunes, thumbs-up us on Twitter, Like our Facebook page and Like us on Soundcloud. Basically, do whatever you can to help us out for free in as many places as you can OR save all that virtual running around and kicks us a few bucks by either using the Donate button on SuccotashShow.com, buying some merch at SuccotashShow.com, or doing your holiday shopping on Amazon by using our portal at SuccotashShow.com. Enough begging. Until next time, please remember to pass the damned Succotash! — Marc Hershon
