"Audio is its own unique language. It has shades of digital, shades of influencer, shades of traditional media–it is all of them and it is none of them." - Dan Granger, Oxford Road Founder & CEO So much happened for audio in 2023 that the Media Roundtable needed to take an inside look at the stories and trends that shaped the soundwaves. Back on the host microphone is Oxford Road founder and CEO, Dan Granger with fellow agents of influence James Ingrassia, Spencer Semonson, and Stew Redwine. We're taking stock of this landmark year in audio with a special look at the so-called Podcrash, the industry impact of big brands and big brand bucks, YouTube's surprise rise as the top place for podcast discovery, and a whole lot more. Let's dig in.
In this episode of Podcrash*, Holly and Lindsay take a deep dive into The Anime Sickos and The Podcast Mines: There But For The Grace Of Pod Go We, respectively. Specifically, they listened to the crossover episodes! Holly listened to 79: The Sickos Work Retail, and Lindsay listened to Anime Sickos Sickos (feat. Anime Sicko Tom Harrison). Holly realizes that she is inadvertantly living out the podcasts that the duo listened to this week, while Lindsay uncovers the deep conspiracy behind the One Mic Stand podcast jam and also behind all of anime. Our intro theme this week is a mashup of The Podcast Mines's theme by @NiceWizardMusic on Twitter, and the Anime Sickos theme, bridged by a Creative Commons airhorn sound by jacksonacademyashmore on Freesound. Our outro theme is Voxel Revolution by Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com), licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License. http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ *We are unaffiliated with the Minecraft game maker of the same name, and did not know about them until after we named our podcast. Oops. -- This episode was made as part of the One Mic Stand Podcast Jam! Thank you to everyone who submitted, and we hope you enjoy this 100th episode! When they're out of the Mines, Riley is a Tabletop Game Designer whose games can be found at Linksmith Games. They have a lot of other shows including Never Believe It, If Not Us Then Who, and Champs in the Making. When Andrew's helmet comes off he wastes too much time on Twitter and streams a variety games over on Twitch. He's also the cohost of the ARGonauts Podcast, an Alternate Reality Game Deep Dive show. Our incredible show art was created by Alyssa and our Home Depot Style Beat was made by Matt!! Find out more at https://the-podcast-mines.pinecast.co This podcast is powered by Pinecast.

The boys sit down with Skifter and Marleau and bask in all that is the taproom and taste everything on tap. This is going to end well. Cheers!
For the final time in 2021, dear listener, hello from me, your every-other-weekly host Marc Hershon. Since you downloaded or are streaming this, you're probably not surprised that you are listening to Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, and this is Episode 285, our last installment of the year. Did you miss last week's penultimate episode of the year, #284? With our co-host Tyson Saner? It's not too late to flag it down and shove it into your ears. He featured a quartet of clippery from such soundcasts as Web Crawlers, Triple Click, No Dogs in Space, and How Did This Get Made? You can grab it from any number of popular podcast download and streaming destinations, including Apple & Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Amazon Music, Soundcloud, the Audible app, YouTube or our favorite haunt – namely, this show's homesite – SuccotashShow.com I was thinking of doing some kind of countdown for this year-end episode but having already contributed to Vulture.com's This Year in Comedy Podcasts countdown reviews – you can read my write-up on Smartless, which came in at No. 9 – I feel like I've already slogged through a bunch of shows. Instead, I've plucked four clips from shows that really don't have much to do with one another. They're not all even necessarily comedy soundcasts but they are entertaining as hell. And I don't believe we've ever featured any of them before. Hang on for samplings from Film Threat, Hysteria, Majoring in Everything, and You're Wrong About. Our last show of the year is appropriately sponsored by Henderson's Pants timely Auld Lang Slacks. Reflecting back on the year – the second year in which the COVID pandemic has become a regular participant in everyone's lives, either directly or indirectly – I'm curious to see if we here at Succotash - Tyson, Bill Heywatt, Joe Paulino, and the rest of the staff that keep this dreadnought trundling along – should be looking to change anything to increase the interest in or the enjoyment of the show. COVID kicked us in the rear and got us to finally make Succotash a regular weekly show, dropping pretty much every Tuesday. And although we're still describing ourselves as “the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast”, both Tyson and I have wandered a bit afield from that in our choice of clips to feature. The shows are roughly a half-hour now, except when there's an interview, which tends to go a bit longer. And we're still sponsor-free, with the exception of our fake benefactor, Henderson's Pants. So what do YOU think? Are you happy with what you're getting for free here? Do you want more clips per show? Less clips? More interviews? More commercials (yeah, right!) We also have a Patreon page waiting in the wings that you would be able to get some kind of bonus content and also help to support the show – should we fire that up? Do you want Succotash merch? Personal appearances? Our ATM PIN numbers? Just let us know. You can email either of us at marc@SuccotashShow.com or tyson@SuccotashShow.com. You can ping us on the socials @SuccotashShow on both Twitter and Instagram. Or you can call the Succotash Show & Runaway Truck Ramp Hotline, at 1-818-921-7212. However you want to reach out, we'd love to hear what you think of the show as we head for our 11th year of soundcasting, and how we can make things better or, at least, different. Okay. ‘Nuff said, Let's launch into this Farewell to 2021 passel of clips, shall we? CLIPS Film ThreatThe first clip comes from a show hosted by an old friend of Succotash, Chris Gore. He used to host a show called PodCRASH, in which he featured himself guesting on other people's soundcasts that he would turn around and play on HIS show. But Chris's first love was as the publisher and editor of Film Threat magazine years ago, a great alternative look at movies and the film business, which went through a number of ups and downs and it went out of publication but Chris then resurrected it as a website and soundcast. Our clip comes from the Film Threat episode that dropped last week on December 20, in which Chris and his guests discussed Isolation, an anthology of nine tales of terror focused on people in isolation as they attempt to survive a deadly global outbreak. Sound familiar? Chris' guests are filmmakers Nathan Crooker and Larry Fessenden and, in this clip, they talk about how the project came about and how they started putting it together. HysteriaThe next show I also clipped from last week – an episode of Hysteria, with co-hosts Erin Ryan and Alyssa Mastromonaco. Erin is a political commentator and comedy writer, while Alyssa is a formar White House Deputy Chief of Staff. The description of the show on their homesite says that they are joined by a “bicoastal squad of funny, opinionated women to talk through everything from reproductive rights to romcoms.” Last week, in their episode entitled, “Love Me, It's Christmas!”, the hosts teamed up with comedian/actress/writer Naomi Ekperigin, and comedian Megan Gailey to delve into “all of the wonderful, insane, problematic, magical, batshit holiday movie tropes.” The clip has them sifting through the Lifetime holiday move, The Christmas Setup, a love story featuring two gay male characters (played by a real-life gay male couple), and a movie mom portrayed by Fran Drescher. There's a taste of Hysteria, which you can find pretty much everywhere soundcasts are found. You can also find your way to their homesite by clicking through to our homesite, SuccotashShow.com, and then finding and clicking on the Hysteria title in our blog post for this episode. Majoring In EverythingAre you one of those people who probably doing TOO many things in your life and having trouble focusing on how to put everything in perspective? Andrea Jones-Rooy not only has a Ph.D. after her name but she is also the host of Majoring In Everything, a soundcast that is “for people who don't know what to do with their lives because they are interested in too many thing, and especially things that seem unrelated,” according to the show's descriptor. Her guest in the show's third episode, which dropped a couple of weeks ago, entitled “How science and stories will save the world, featuring Dr. Moiya McTier!” She is described as an astrophysicist, folklorist, science communicator, and all-around hero. In our clip, Dr. McTier talks about how she like to trick people into learning, and how to teach yourself in sort of the same way. You're Wrong About Journalist Sarah Marshall has an obsession with the past. Particularly those events and people in that past that have gotten kind of a raw deal as far as how people think about them nowadays. So she like to deep dive her way into those topics with a guest and try to see if there a straighter story to be told. Most recently, in an episode of her soundcast, You're Wrong About, entitled “Winter Book Club: The Amityville Horror with Jamie Loftus”, Sarah tells her guest host, Loftus (who is also soundcasting on Aack Cast, The Bechdel Cast, and My Year in Mensa) about The Amityville Horror. Is it a haunted or just big and drafty? And how the tale is a Christmas story! Our clip gets into how the book differs from the movie and how that can make quite a difference. That metallic squealing you can imagine I'm hearing right now is me scraping the bottom of the barrel because I'm out of clips. And just like that, the ball drops for this most recent year of Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. As long as you're probably putting the finishing touches on your New Year's Resolution, why not pop a note in there to download and listen to this show each and every week of 2022? Heck, go one step further and vow that you're going to rate and review Succotash on Apple and Google Soundcasts. Why not? It's free! It's fun! And I'm begging! Much like I'm begging you to check back in this very same feed next week for Succotash Epi286 when Tyson Saner returns with some more tasty soundcasts tidbits for you in the just-born new year. Do it to it. As the executive producer of this endeavor, I want to give a great big thanks to Tyson for being on this journey with me. We're not making any money off this project and I greatly appreciate him putting in so much time and effort to craft his episodes. Dear listener, I am wishing you a happy, safe, and reasonably sane 2022. With the Omicron variant raging right now, please take extra care during those New Year's Eve shindigs. Mask up, vaxx up, and treat people better than you have in the previous year. And, just in case anyone should have to ask you if you have heard anything good lately, won't you please pass the Succotash? — Marc Hershon

Thank you, dear listener, for listening. This is your every-other-weekly-host Marc Hershon and, frankly, I wasn’t sure I was going to get in here this week with our milestone TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTIETH EPISODE, mainly because I had a full-on computer meltdown halfway through cutting clips for this installment. I literally had to cobble all the pieces together on another computer that didn’t have all the usual software I use to do it but, somehow, it all miraculously came together. If you’re just finding us here at Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, we passed our 10-year mark in soundcasting a couple of weeks ago and now we’re clocking in at 250 shows. If you happened to have missed last week, hosted by my alternating guest host Tyson Saner, he featured clips from a trio of comedy soundcasts, including The Blood Buddies: Horror Podcast, Wack Brackets, and Daydrinking with Gary & Elliot. You can grab an earful at either Apple or Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, iHeart Radio, YouTube, Soundcloud, or a kazillion other places that stream and/or download soundcasts. The one place you CAN’T get new installments of Succotash is, apparently, the Laughable app any longer. Say what? Yes, it’s apparently true. We got a tweet from @CirclinCLE last week informing us that their service hasn’t been updating for a while now. I checked the Laughable website and it’s just…gone. I tried reaching out to Ned Kenney, the founder of the app and a friend of Succotash for years starting when Laughable kicked off, but he seems to have vanished. Ned, if you’re out there, send us a note and let us know you’re okay! I’ve got a quartet of clips for you this week — three new-to-us shows: Bummer Boys, The Celebrity Memoir Book Club, and Odd Dad Out. And we have an old friend and supporter of the Succ, the gang over at The Salty Language Podcast. I also have a pair of belated (but always welcome) congratulatory 10th Anniversary messages that we’ll be hearing from along the way – one from Chris Gore of Film Threat and the departed PodCRASH soundcast, the other from Chris Mancini, a recent guest and host of not one, not two, but THREE soundcasts. And, as always, these sounds of soundcasts are brought to you buy Henderson’s Pants, who bring you their new Bivouac Briefs! Finally, later on in the show, we’re going to resurrect the TweetSack, that portion of the show where we would have read from our mailbag IF we had a mailbag and IF anyone sent us cards and letters. Instead, we’ll just mention the fine folks who mentioned us in their tweets this past week. But now, it’s onto the clips… CLIPS Bummer BoysThe Bummer Boys are hosts Alex Kolanko and Mike Carrozza, who are improvisational comedians that host a show about songs that made them sad each week. But they’ve changed their tune for their recent Epi53, along with guest comedian and writer Josh Gondleman. They’ve even entitled the episode “Bouncy Boys”. In our clip, they are talking about the art of writing the consummate Jeopardy! question. Celebrity Memoir Book ClubFrom two male hosts in the last show to a pair of female hosts, we jump over to the Celebrity Memoir Book Club. New York comedians Claire Parker and Ashley Hamilton don’t suffer fools or celebs who pen books about their rarefied lives. Not so, however, when it comes to Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker and his autobiographical 2016 memoir Can I Say: Living Large, Cheating Death, and Drums, Drums, Drums. The ladies seem a little gaga for this unapologetic ladies’ man, and this clip touches on that a bit about his wife or wives or maybe wife? Odd Dad OutNext up is a solo-hosted soundcast, Odd Dad Out, with stay-at-home-dad Adam Higgins doing his thing: talking about wrangling his kids, stoking the fires of his marriage, and lots of pretty much whatever jumps into his head. (To be fair, I THINK Adam staked out his home-dad status before the COVID lockdown when almost every dad because a stay-at-home version.) In our clip, which hails from his recent Epi201, he castigates that gender-reveal party run amok in the state of Maine just a few weeks ago that resulted in an actual earthquake. (This entire episode, available wherever fine comedy soundcasts hang out, is an interesting listen as Adam takes us through the gradual re-immersion of his three sons in the back-on-campus school experience, which happened for him in stages because of the different ages of his kids.) Salty Language PodcastTony and Bryan, hosts of the Salty Language Podcast, have been bros and buds since the 1980s. And their shows rambles around through pop culture dating from then ‘til now, what their lives are like, and all sorts of goofy stuff that tickles their brains. In a recent episode entitled “Boot Knife”, they meander through a lot of topics, so I shaved off a few minutes where they talk about what disease Salma Hayek struggles to overcome, the weird retinue of Allan Quartermain movies, and other associated twaddle. Done That, then, will do it for this rather inauspicious, run-of-the-mill epi250 of Succotash. Happy to have you with us, just doing you while we do us. Remember to follow us on the socials @SuccotashShow and you can reach out to us there with your suggestions of comedy soundcasts my co-host Tyson and I should go grab a listen to. Speaking of Tyson, he’ll be here in the feed next week with Episode 251, sporting another astounding array of comedy soundcast clips. Until that time, please be mindful that there’s still a pandemic going on so socially distance, wear a mask when you should wash your hands, and if anyone asks if you’re listening to anything good these days, remember to pass the Succotash. Tah. — Marc Hershon

“I knew that it wasn’t going to be an easy journey to get to where I wanted to be - but you don’t expect a lot of the challenges that come further down the line.” - Colin SturgessOlympic cyclists Callum Skinner and Philip Hindes host another special episode live from the World Championships in Harrogate. In this episode, they settle into the PodCrash mobile recording studio-come-campervan with former World Championship cyclist Colin Sturgess. He talks about what the cycling world was like in the 80s and 90s and opens up about his difficult battle with Bipolar.Born in Wakefield and having grown up in Johannesburg, Sturgess explains how he got into cycling at a young age, following in his parents’ footsteps. Then, shortly after returning to the UK, he was selected for the GB squad, where he started making a name for himself in national and world championship races. We ask Sturgess what it was like to cycle in the 80s and 90s, from the doping scandals to the support surrounding mental health. Sturgess then opens up about his Bipolar diagnosis. Having struggled with his mental health for years, he talks about the impact it has had on his life, how he lost everything and tried to cope whilst training. Paralympic cyclist. Business man. Father and husband. John Gildea was a keen mountain biker until a stomach-churning crash changed the course of his life. Listen for a masterclass in success, grit and determination on and off the track.Join PodCrash hosts Callum Skinner and Philip Hindes as they catch up with Gildea in their mobile studio at the cycling World Championships in Harrogate. Kicking off the episode, the 2X World Champ explains how he grew up mountain biking as a kid, riding in the juniors category, before he got a job and started a family. While cycling remained a passion for Galdea, his focus was on building his business, until one landing went horrifyingly wrong and left him hospital-bound in May 2012. Having flipped over the handlebars, dislocated his knee, destroyed his ligaments and severed his nerves, Gildea was told he’d never cycle again. But, less than a year later, he was wearing a GB skinsuit and training as a paralympic rider. “In the back of my mind I was 32 and I wanted my fittest days to be in front of me.” - John GildeaWe talk about his transition into the GB Paralympic team and how, as the owner of his own company and a family man, he balances life and work. “I like the purity of the time trial; the fastest guy wins” - Alex DowsettFresh from coming 5th in the World Championship Time Trials, professional cyclist Alex Dowsett joins Callum Skinner and Philip Hindes in the mobile PodCrash studio at the World Champs in Harrogate. A specialist in the Time Trial event and a pro cyclist for Team Katusha Alpecin, Dowsett has had a varied career in cycling so far. With stints at Team Sky and Movistar, he gives us an insight into his cycling career and how he also deals with having the rare blood condition, hemophilia, as an athlete. After the news (Skinner’s GB bike is still missing), Hindes and Skinner ask Dowsett about the preparation he undertook leading up to this latest Time Trial, where he explains his mindset of improving himself, as opposed to chasing the competition. Find out more about how this athlete splits races and builds his cycling strategy on power and feel.We talk about the confines of wearing and using a sponsor’s equipment, as well as the differences in culture, methodology and gear between Team Sky (now Ineos) and Movistar. In this week’s episode, Olympic cyclists Callum Skinner and Philip Hindes sit down with David Smith to hear about his journey in the world of sport and the devastating health issues he’s fought along the way. Now diagnosed with cancer for the 4th time, this unstoppable olympic champion refuses to let it hold him back - or slow him down.“I’m living these two lives and it’s like flipping a coin; if it lands heads, I'm alive. “I think Rio was just the start for me” - Joe ClarkeHe’s the Olympic kayak champion that’s going from strength to strength; Joe Clarke drops by for a hilarious chat with Callum Skinner and Philip Hindes. Recorded live in a new studio, this week’s PodCrash episode has better sound, better lighting (for the YouTube fans) and better hosting skills? Nah! Expect some laugh out loud moments in this lively cycling podcast as Hindes and Skinner grill Clarke on all things kayaking.Wondering how you get into such a niche sport? Once recovered and with a place on the squad, he recounts some funny anecdotes about his time at Fairfield and Skinner doesn’t miss an opportunity to plug his favourite food joint again. Can you guess what it is?Later, Clarke talks about the cut-throat selection process in the lead up to the Olympics and how an unpaid utility bill threw a spanner in the works at training camp. That didn’t stop him from scooping a gold medal at Rio though. From partying with the Brazilian Ronaldo to almost losing his gold medal, it’s safe to say he had the time of his life. And the fun didn’t stop there. Clarke returned home only to be paraded around his home town in his Kayak (definitely worth a Google), and has since got engaged, become an owner of a dog and won two World Cups. “The chapter’s not finished yet, there’s still more in the tank and whilst I feel like I’ve still got more to achieve, and I’ve still got the drive and hunger to go out and get it, then why stop?” - Joe ClarkeHave a good laugh at Skinner and Hindes’ expense and find out what’s next for Clarke in this entertaining episode of PodCrash.Show us the love by subscribing, rating and reviewing PodCrash. Want to find out more about the man behind the mic? In a detour from the usual PodCrash format, it’s time for Olympic cyclist and PodCrash co-host, Callum Skinner, to get a grilling!Ben Nichols (our guest from Episode 14), takes on the role of interviewer in this special episode and delves into why Skinner retired from elite cycling in March 2019 and what he’s been up to since.Looking back, Callum describes the long build-up to Rio’s Olympic Games as the ‘ultimate distraction’ in life. But what happens when it’s all over? He gives an insight into what it’s like to win medals at the world’s biggest sporting event and the transition back into training once its all over.“It’s quite easy to put them [athletes] on a pedestal and say they’re invincible but, ultimately, athletes can be some of the most insecure people you’ll ever meet and that’s because they’re judged on their last performance.” - Callum SkinnerWith a frank discussion on mental health, Skinner opens up about the pressure athletes face to perform. He also explains more about Rule 40, a by-law of the Olympic Charter that restricts non-official sponsors from using Olympic-related terms. With many athletes relying on sponsorship from smaller companies, Skinner raises some compromises that could lessen the impact on an athlete’s earning potential.Nichols also asks Skinner about his passion for athlete activism, where he’s been working to improve collaboration between athletes and sporting bodies to raise standards. This turning point saw the pair stack up the medals and employ a new, no BS training tactic: speaking in code. “We both knew what was at stake and we both wanted it.” - Helen ScottThe athletes then give their take on listening to their bodies and whether to push through the exhaustion or rest and recover. “If you want to get better, it’s not just about training harder, it’s about knowing yourself better,” says Skinner.Find out whether Scott plans to return to able-bodied cycling, her special bond with Thornhill, breaking world records, coaching and the plan to defend their title in Tokyo 2020.“This is where I belong; I love what I do” - Helen ScottShow us the love by subscribing, rating and reviewing PodCrash. PodCrash - Talk of Champions with Philip Hindes & Callum Skinner
She’s the athlete that had to fight to walk again after a catastrophic crash nearly ended her career in 2015. Great Britain Track Cyclist Vicky Williamson joins Callum Skinner and Philip Hindes for this week’s episode of PodCrash.Launching into the episode with this week’s news; Skinner had his car stolen, while Williamson struggles to find a new housemate. Plus, Hindes talks about his old tactics for finding a girlfriend... in a supermarket. Skinner and Hindes then quiz Williamson on her unconventional path into cycling, the Girls for Gold programme and the things she’s learned along the way - like there really is no place for underwear on the track. Part of Team GB during the lead up to the Rio Olympics, Williamson relays the pressure her team felt to perform at the highest level during qualifying, the lessons to be learned and the temptation of tapering training. Then, it’s onto the horrific cycling injury she sustained during a race in Rotterdam 2015. With a broken back, neck and pelvis, Williamson was told she was nearly paralised, could face a future filled with chronic pain and might never cycle again. Find out how her resilient mentality has seen her fight her way back to elite fitness, why a positive attitude is EVERYTHING and how her crash has given her a life-changing perspective on life. Since, she’s been selected for the World Championship and has her sights set on Tokyo 2020. Can anything slow her down? We don’t think so…“I’m on the same level playing field as everyone else, I’ve just had a bit of a longer route to get there.” - Vicky WilliamsonShow us the love by subscribing, rating and reviewing PodCrash. What happens when you fulfill a life-long dream at just 23? During the Rio Olympics, Owain Doull scooped a gold medal in the Men’s Team Pursuit. Then, suddenly, he was back road cycling, heavier than before and struggling to keep up during the Tour of Britain. This week, Philip Hindes and Callum Skinner talk about the highs and lows of elite cycling with Team Ineos’ (formerly Team Sky’s) Owain Doull.Doull then spills all about his team’s transition from Sky to Ineos, the grassroot impact Sky has had on British cycling and the uncertainty many athletes face when it comes to contracts. Interested in what an elite athlete eats? The Welsh champion reveals what he chows down in a day, why he quit alcohol and the benefits of low carb riding in the lead up to a race. PodCrash - Talk of Champions with Philip Hindes & Callum Skinner
Just one more wrist injury could be the end of Kyle Evans’ competitive BMX career, but he’s not hanging up his helmet anytime soon...Great British Cycling Team athletes Callum Skinner and Philip Hindes return for the second instalment of this banter-filled cycling podcast and, this week, they’re joined by gutsy Pro BMX racer and European Champion, Kyle Evans. He’ll share why starting strong is EVERYTHING during a BMX race and reveals how the BMX scene is changing, for better or worse.Kicking off the episode, the trio discuss the week’s news; Callum takes a gruelling 80K cycle (without snacks), has anti-doping discussions with RUSADA and Hindes reports he’s had a home gym installed that’s, apparently, “better than Man City’s”...Then it’s onto stomach-churning injuries – including a no holds barred account of Kyle’s 8 wrist surgeries – Rio’s Olympic “death-trap” BMX track and why Evans believes an Olympic medal is on the cards for the British BMX team in Tokyo 2020. Kyle also shares his strategies for winning a race, ruthless tactics, dealing with risky conditions and the current culture of British BMX. “As soon as I’ve put my helmet on and i’ve gone through that process, I know what I’ve got to do” - Kyle EvansLike what you hear? Yes, believe it or now, and for the last time – really, this time, it’s me. Marc Hershon. Departing host but still remaining executive producer of Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. First of all, I lied to you last episode when I said THAT was the final episode. Because after I dropped that installment I heard from a number of our friends-of-the-show, mainly soundcasters who have been so supportive and helpful over the seven years that the show has been on that I felt I truly hadn’t thanked enough people when last I signed off. Also, between Epi162 and now, we’ve found a way to keep Succotash going! In classic show business fashion, I’m just going to tease you with that for now and it will NOT be revealed in this blog post! You'll just have to listen to the episode to find out, as I do have a lengthy chat with my replacement toward the very end of the episode. The initial impetus to do an UNFINAL episode was that our resident political comedian and social commentator Will Durst had sent me a last Burst O’ Durst installment which arrived after we’d dropped Epi162. And then I discovered we also had a last Boozin’ with Bill segment with our announcer Bill Heywatt that had somehow slipped through the cracks. Based on those things, I figured I would do one last round of soundcast clips just featuring shows from some of our most vocal supporters on social media. Which gives us quite a lineup! Big giant thanks, by the way, to our Associate Producer, Tyson Saner, for helping me to harvest the absolute bumper crop of clips we’re featuring this show. You’re going to hear from The Anti Social Show, Casa Mirth, the Chillpak Hollywood Hour, Comedy Film Nerds, Ear Goggles, Film Threat, Illusionoid, Quick Question, Story Worthy, and Strange Times. And this Unfinal episode is sponsored by our friends at Henderson’s Pants and teir spanking new Down UnderPants. (Including an endorsement from Jason "Jabs" McNamara, all the way from Canberra, Australia.) THE CLIPS Chillpak Hollywood HourFirst out of the barrel are a couple of gents I have referred to often as being members of “podcast royalty” and that is Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness of the Chillpak Hollywood Hour. Early on these guys were very supportive of the show and generous with their time and, over the years, we’ve become good friends. Their show is now in it’s 11th year and these guys not only have careers on their own from each other but they’ve made movies together as well, including a great dark comedy thriller called The Lady Killers. It will be screening in about a week in San Jose, California. One night only, on February 21st, at Club 3B. Strange TimesSuccotash has, on occasion, been a kind of conduit thorugh which people from one show have found out about and, eventually, connected with other shows. A case in point was Jabs, heard this show, making contact with Davian Dent in England who, at the time, had a very unique show called The Bitter Sound. Davian and Jabs put their heads together – a half a world apart from each other, mind you, and created a soundcast mini-series call The Kundalini Files, a kind of detective spoof. They also pulled in some other soundcasters on that one – other fine folks we have featured over the years here on the show. Here's a snippet from a recent episode of Davian’s other long-running show, Strange Times, featuring Davian, Samantha Pett and Kat Sorens. All three have been very friendly to our show and one of these days I’ve got to somehow meet these people and down some brews with them until we all pass out. Story WorthyAnother ardent supporter of this show has been a woman with a terrific show of her own, and that’s Christine Blackburn, co-host of the Story Worthy Podcast, along with Hannis Phinney. I’ve run into her almost every year at the Los Angeles Podcast Festival and she’s always been a great promoter and cheerleader. Some years she’s even dragged various comedians and soundcasters into the Podfest’s Podcast Lab and insisted that they sit down and do an interview with me. Story Worthy is a great storytelling show, with some great guests, and recently they had on comedian Johnno Wilson, who related a harrowing tale. Film ThreatAnother good friend to this show and who I have ended up hanging out with whenever I run into him out in the world is Chris Gore. When Succotash first started he was running PodCRASH, where his gimmick was to appear on other soundcasters shows, then play THOSE episodes as his own. In a way it was the ultimate cross-promotion. Once upon a time he had been the editor and publisher of Film Threat magazine, a great “alt” movie magazine and Chris has returned to that property, only now in website and soundcast form. Here’s a clip from his recent “Time’s Up At Sundance” epi from January with guests Natalia Winkleman and Jon Bernstein… Casa MirthThe Casa Mirth soundcast features the team-up of Dr. Norman Trousers and River Gambezi. Norman’s been a presence around here pretty much since we began Succotash and he’s part of the infamous Podcast Mafia that got started years ago with myself somehow ending up as the titular Podfather. (Although I believe that moniker was started by Eric Furniss of The FOONcast.) Trousers and Gambezi run a very sporadically-appearing show and, for the past four holiday seasons, they have produced these wild mashup Christmas productions. They’re scripted and then the boys draft fellow soundcasters from all over the world to voice the parts. I’m honored to have been included in these crazy shows and this past December Casa Mirth featured their own take on It’s A Wonderful Life, the Jimmy Stewart classic. I was asked to be the Narrator, which I pulled off rather nicely, I think. Illusionoid We head up to Toronto to hear from the cast of Illusionoid. Love these guys, who I got to interview fairly early into when we started. Paul Bates, Lee Smart, and Nug Nahrgang – the best name in soundcasting – were in San Francisco for the annual Improv Festival here and we got a chance to hang out. And being a longtime improvisor, I really took to their style of an improvised sci-fi anthonolgy series, based around the gimmick of mankind’s creation bent on the destruction of humans. We feature a glimpse at a transmission from the last episode of their 9th season last November. Ear GogglesJeremy, Aaron, and Stacy don’t soundcast all that often but they still drop an episode every now and then. I used to run into Jeremy and Stacy at the LA Podfest for the first few years but they stopped coming down from Seattle. We're featuring a ready-made clip I found on their homesite – one of their “bonus clips” from a show last year where Stacy plays with some toys, as she puts it. (If you go to their site, you can browse through their archives all the way back to 2005, which is when they started out as The Sibling Rivalry podcast.) Comedy Film NerdsA couple of other longtime soundcasters who have been very nice to me are Chris Mancini and Graham Elwood, the hosts of the Comedy Film Nerds soundcast. They are also two of the organizers of the Los Angeles Podcast Festival and have never been anything but welcoming, accommodating, and kind to me. It probably helped that I contributed to the Kickstarter campaign that paid for the first LA Podfest but, since then, they have invited me to moderate panels and be a guest on other panels. Here’s a clip from their episode 403 from last month, with guest Jon Reep. Quick QuestionI wanted to be sure to toss in a soundcast farewell to Travis Clark and Jonathan Sadowski, hosts of the Quick Question soundcast. When I first mentioned I was going to step away from Succotash, Travis messaged me to ask if it was his turn to “talk me off the ledge”, as he put it. That’s because a few years ago, he and his wife Brandi were considering hanging up Tiny Odd Conversations, the show they did together and I convinced them to hang in there as they had only hit their Epi50. And they did, for quite awhile. Eventually, Brandi got herself a new job that kept her crazy-busy and TOCpod eventually drained away. But then the Clarks got a new neighbor, Jonathan, and Travis discovered they had a lot in common. Mostly talking, judging from the amount of palavering that goes on during episodes of Quick Question. I had them on a few months ago from a chat we had at the LA Podfest. The Anti Social ShowFor our last clip of this Unfinal Succotash episode, we turn to a couple of the most ardent supporters of the show who started their own soundcast last year. Our very own Tyson Saner teamed up with one of our most supportive listeners, Hunter Block, and created The Anti Social Show. For the first 10 episodes, they were only on SoundCloud but now they’re on iTunes and other fine distribution points around the interwebs. This clip, harvested by Tyson himself, is from their Epi41, one of the first installments of 2018, entitled “Obscured By Sound”. And that is going to do it for Succotash under my command. We’ll be announcing when the first new episode of of the show is dropping, as soon as we figure out what we need to do to put all of the controls into the new host's hands. I will likely drop in from time to time, and I’m in the process of putting a whole new soundcast into production. I want to thank you for listening to this Unfinal episode of the show. For those of you who have been listening for a while, I can’t thank you enough for your support. And whether that describes you or you’re relatively new to the show, please subscribe and keep listening as show continues. I’m excited to see where our new host takes the show. Now, for the last time as your host, it’s my pleasure to ask you to please pass the Succotash. Goodbye. — Marc Hershon

New Ep! Bakko & LC have gone into hiding this week after roasting the entire Podcast industry, KISS fans and the Nashville Rock n Pod Expo on Ep 71. People! While Cobras & Fire plans its next attack, you are blessed with another round of Rob Kern's "Loud, Drunk & Angry" rock show on the Uncontrolled Noize network. Strap in for 3 hours of rock. We'd hire a psychiatrist to find out just what makes Rob Kern tick but we're pretty sure we couldn't afford the years of therapy needed for a diagnosis. Besides being a guest and friend of Cobras & Fire, Rob has been a contributing writer for Classic Rock Magazine, penned the hilarious manifesto, 33 Days In The Hole: The Chicago Experiment and directed music videos for the likes of American Dog and Stacie Collins. Rob hates modern country music and believes Sammy Hagar ruined Van Halen. Loud, Drunk & Angry encourages drinking and hopefully spurs the listening audience to break things, not from anger but from the sheer joy of hearing all things rock and roll. uncontrollednoize.com fromoutofnowhere.com 3 hours of rock and talk!

Yes, it’s me – Marc Hershon – your host and found object for Epi139 of Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. This is an installment of Succotash Chats, where we focus on talking with a soundcaster, or a comedian, or a comedian/soundcaster, or – in this case – a magazine publisher/editor/writer/soundcaster. Speaking of found objects, our guest is Davy Rothbart, the creator of Found magazine and, as of a couple of months ago, the Found soundcast as well. (You may have noticed that I’ve been using the “soundcast” word a lot already. Our grass roots campaign to shift from using podcast to soundcast is slowly taking off — you’ll even hear our guest Davy Rothbart mention that he’ll back our play and start using it.) Davy is a really interesting guy and I enjoyed talking with him and getting the backstory on how he decided to start the magazine and how it's opened up his life by getting all of these odd little notes and other found bits of flotsam that people send him. He also shares a few of his favorite "foundities" with us during the course of our chat. ALSO THIS EPISODE We have a double shot of our Burst O' Durst segment, courtesy of political comic and social commentator Will Durst. During the Tweetsack segment I play a clip from the 100th epi of Drew Michael's I Might Be Wrong soundcast, only because his PR folks neglected to send me a free copy of his comedy album that they wanted me to plug. And we have a commercial from our sponsor Henderson's Pants for their ever-popular Drifter Chinos. LIVE APPEARANCES There are just a few days left before my live appearance with the Spaghetti Jam 40th Year Reunion Improv Comedy Show. Tickets are going fast but there are still some left, so if you’re in the San Francisco Bay Area on Sunday, September 11th – 9/11, that’s right — we’re at the Throckmorton Theatre in downtown Mill Valley. Such a GREAT lineup of performers that are turning out for this - people who really lit the fuse for what we know as improvisational comedy today: Terry McGovern, Gil Christner, Diane Amos, Debi Durst, Michael Bossier, Denis Egan, Robin Eurich, Andy Goldberg, Rodney Sheriff, John Elk, Chris Pray, Jim Cranna, John Bates, Hennen Chambers, and Andrejs Gulbis. Jump over to http://ThrockmortonTheatre.org for the showtime, tickets and other details. And then later in the month – September 23-25 – I’ll be at the 5th Annual Los Angeles Podcast Festival. In addition to hosting the Journalism and Podcasting panel on Sunday afternoon at 2 PM, I’ll be set up in the Podcast Lab the rest of the time with my equipment doing interviews so stop on by and let’s chat! I’ve already got a couple of folks set up to drop by: Adam Spiegelman from the Proudly Resents soundcast and Chris Gore from the PodCRASH! show and Film Threat Magazine, which is in the midst of a Kickstarter campaign to go back into publication. A LITTLE HELP? If you want to help keep Succotash going strong, please visit our homesite at http://SuccotashShow.com, where you can click on our Donate button, shop at Amazon.com by using the banner at the top of the page, or grab some merch at the Succotashery. You’ll also find a link to the homesite for the Laughable app there, where you can learn more about this great new way to find, download, stream and follow your favorite and soon-to-be favorite comedy podcasts. We won't do anything to stop you going to iTunes and both rating and reviewing Succotash, which helps more people to find the show. And speaking of finding the show, Succotash is now available on I Heart Radio, so check us out there, too! Until next time, thanks for passing the Succotash! — Marc Hershon

Yes, once again, it is I. Marc Hershon. Host and dresser for Epi116C of Succotash, the Comedy Podcast Podcast. This is the third of the interviews I've had during the course of this year's Los Angeles Podcast Festival, and this time I'm talking with Shawn Marek, a producer on podcasts that find their home on the Sideshow Network. Shawn and I have known each other before there was a Sideshow Network, back when he was producing PodCRASH with Chris Gore, past guest on our Epi42 and friend of the show. And, although I knew he'd battled and survived a fight against Hodkin's Lymphoma, I didn't realize that his is one of the storylines that weaves their way through EarBuds: The Podcast Documentary, which had a preliminary screening last night at the Podfest. We talk about both his illness and his appearance in the movie as part of our chat. For those podcasters out there, curious about podcast networks and how to possibly approach them with an interest to joining their lineup, we go there as well. We also talk about the podcast that he and his wife, Jen Stansfield-Marek, co-host, Worst Collection Ever, a comic book podcast about comics books that most people don't seem to care that much about. With his extensive experience on the other side of the podcast mic, Shawn's got a great perspective on the industry — both as an entertainment medium and as a viable source of income. Keep on checking in on our stream this weekend, as I continue to upload interviews as soon as I can clean up the audio as best I can and drop them online! (And I appreciate you telling your friends and passing the Succotash!) — Marc Hershon
Yes, it’s me. Marc Hershon. Your host and rack jobber for Epi110 of Succotash, the Comedy Podcast Podcast. This is a Succotash Clips episode — finally back after two Succotash Chats epis — which means we’re featuring clip after clip after clip from comedy podcasts scattered all over the webiverse. A lot of them were harvested by our intrepid Associate Producer Tyson Saner. I scraped up a few. Some were sent in by comedy podcasters themselves, or uploaded to us directly via our upload site, at http://hightail.com/u/succotash. One of them isn’t even a comedy podcast, but the host asked if I’d feature a clip and I figured “Screw the network fatcats and bigwigs! This is MY show, dammit, and I’ll do what I please!” That’s right. This one non-comedy podcast clip is going to be played come Hell or high water! But just a little bit later in the show. What shows will we be clipping in this epi, mighten you ask? Here’s what in store: The Comatose Podcast, Eric And Stacey, Excuse My Adlib, The Blank Planet, We’re From The Internet, and The Wrong Foot Podcast. Burst O' Durst In addition to the clips we have a double dose of our Burst O’ Durst with comedian and social commentator Will Durst. He talks about who the hell would want to be President of the United States, and also a quick lesson on several advantages and disadvantages of being a Baby Boomer. Also, if you’re going to be in or around San Francisco at the end of June, you can catch Durst giving a workshop as part of the Beatnick Shindig going on at Fort Mason. It’s on Saturday, June 27th, just one hour from 10:30 to 11:30 AM and the cost is just 20 bucks. Hop over to http://BeatnickShindig.com and grab yourself some tickets. Bill The Podcaster Our announcer, Bill Heywatt, has come out of the booth and has embarked on his own podcast adventure. He's still with the show, but you can now catch some mini-episodes of The Bill Heywatt Show as part of The Strange Times Podcast, with Davian Dent and Kat Sorens. We feature his very first episode in it's entirety on this show. Clips The Blank PlanetThe way Bill even came up the idea of starting his own show was during a discussion that was going on when he and I were guests recently of Davian Dent on his new podcast The Blank Planet. "Disucssion" is a term I use loosely - our chat degraded rapidly and then those Brits started prodding Bill to start his own podcast. The Wrong Foot Comedy PodcastWe got a clip from the The Wrong Foot Comedy Podcast, sent in from executive producer Robin Brecker. They’ve got a big ol’ cast over there pulling off some delightful audio sketch comedy. I’m not sure who’s in this piece from their Epi194. It’s called “Unlucky Lou”. Excuse My AdlibTyson grabbed us a sample of the Excuse My Adlib, which their website describes as “an online hiphop-based talk show brought to you…by you – the fans of hiphop and hosted by Rozay, Big Therm, and J Boss.” Well, that’s Succotash to a T. Big fan. Tyson says, “The selected clip is from the middle of a discussion about Trevor Noah” – soon to be replacing John Stewart on The Daily Show – “and is regarding whether or not someone's social media presence is a fair reflection of their non-virtual personality or being.” Comatose PodcastThe hiphop thing was a little step away form our usual fare of comedy podcasts. So I’m going to slide a little further over to bring you a clip – a very self-contained clip – from The Comatose Podcast. Executive producer John Bauer wasn’t even going to send it in, he just likes Succotash, but I said go ahead, let’s do this thing. There are a number of people behind the scenes and on the microphones for this show, which is – according to their homesite – “the result of creative people who neglected getting into creative fields finding a way to collaborate and release their pent up energy. It’s one part learning to express yourself one part letting yourself go and opening up the expression that’s already there.” Cool. Heavy. Heavy and cool. We’re From The InternetPodcasting has really supplanted radio for a lot of people, and it’s begun to seek specific progamming niches in some case. We got a note from Kev and Steve, the hosts of We’re From The Internet, and they asked us to clip them. They refer to their show as “a daily comedy breakfast show” where they answer the most pressing question of the day — whatever it might be and wherever it might come from. Fair enough. Back in Epi9 of their show, the question was, “How big a house do you need if you want a pet panda?” Here’s a clip that has little to do with the original question but still manages to hover around the topic of animals. The Eric & Stacey "Talking Rubbish" PodcastRipped from the Tweetsack, this clip comes to us from The Eric & Stacey "Talking Rubbish" Podcast. They used our instant upload option and got their clip to us just by going to http://Hightail.com/u/succotash. Their note with the clip reads: “Hi there Succotash! Got a clip for ya. We were in the middle of our ‘Dumb fuck of the week’ segment. The dumb tweet Eric read jogged his memory about what they opened the show with ( Eric's job at the car dealership) and had some more details to add. The clip is from episode 102 ‘well...that was gross’ of Eric and Stacey - Talking rubbish” Thanks, Eric and Stacey! Someday we may even learn what your last names are. Podcast GraveyardTyson dreamed up this segment, which I love, because it pays homage to some late, great podcasts that – although they may have been beloved at one time – have gone away for one reason or another. In most cases, we may never know why. The latest show to lie in state is an old favorite of Succotash, mainly because we had some great interactions with the host over the past couple of years and even a couple of free beers at the very first Los Angeles Podcast Festival. I’m talking about PodCRASH! with Chris Gore, the same guy who started FilmThreat magazine years ago. That’s it for this edition of Succotash Clips, friends. I know it was a long drought between shows this time – longer than usual – but I’m trying to get back on the beam and I already have a full rack of clips locked and loaded for another episode real soon. In the meantime, enjoy, tell your friends, and thanks for passing the Succotash! — Marc Hershon
Some pop groovers to make your day happier
Welcome to Epi76 of Succotash, the Comedy Podcast Podcast. To start off, and I've mentioned this on the show before, I don’t understand why some podcasts have “seasons”, like on television, or how they determine how many episodes constitute said seasons or why. It’s all quite arbitrary. But I have decided that we are going to start following this obtuse convention so welcome to the first season of Succotash, already in progress. This is episode 76, which means there are only 23 episodes left before the big season finale! That’s right. You heard it here first: Episode 100 will be this show’s season closer. Maybe we’ll make it a big deal. A live show somewhere, with lots of guests, lots of podcasters calling in and sending in messages. It’s a ways off, of course. At the rate I drop episodes, we’re looking at next summer sometime. A great time for a season finale! Or maybe it will be just me, huddled in my car in the pre-dawn light, trying not to wake the neighbors as I talk to you, our loyal listener. Our show mostly has made its bones playing clips of comedy podcasts from around the world but we also feature interviews. This week our Special Guest is Chris Mancini. This is last of my official LA Podcast Festival interviews – it’s only taken two months to get through them all – and Chris is one of the creators and organizers of the PodFest. Chris is also co-host of the Comedy Film Nerds podcast, along with Graham Elwood, a previous guest on this show. The Comedy Film Nerds podcast is a spinoff, more or less, from the Comedy Film Nerds website and also the book of the same name.. The website focuses on film reviews by both Chris and Graham but slso a number of contributors, including Dean Haglund and Matt Weinhold, both of whom have appeared on Succotash. Their book is more about film genres, with their contributors tackling everything from horror to romantic comedies. We managed to corner Chris in a corner of the Podcast Lab at the PodFest and spend about 10 minutes chatting about how things were going and their plans for the future of the Fest. The Fest Future, if you will. WHAT ELSE? In addition to a pile of podcast clips (due in no small part to our Honorary Associate Producer Tyson Saner!), this epi also features a DOUBLE Burst O' Durst with our resident raging moderate, comedy Will Durst. Also, we have a holiday poem, Black Friday, by friend-of-Succotash and contributor Chet Hasse. And I talk a little bit about my appearance in Epi4 of a strange little web series called The Funster, produced and starring friend of the show Dana Carvey. Here's the video: TEN MOST ACTIVE IN THE STITCHER TOP 100 COMEDY PODCASTS LIST In this week's list, there's a podcast from England that jumped an astounding 1139 spots to get up into the Top 100! Called The Trev & Ben Show, from Cryodon Radio, we also sliced off a taste during the podcast. But here's the whole list for the week: 21. The Black Guy Who Tips Podcast +940. The Comedy Button +3650. Out Of The Box +15163. The Trev & Ben Show +113973. SModcast >> Edumacation -1275. SModcast > FEaB -2278. Sawbones: A Marital Tour of Misguided Medicine -1379. Dining With Doug & Karen +1482. Cashing in With T.J. Miller +3194. Jim Florentine’s Metal Comedy Midgets -13 THE CLIPS Comedy Film NerdsThe Comedy Film Nerds podcast is a spinoff, more or less, from the Comedy Film Nerds website and also the book. Hosts Chris Mancini and Graham Elwood frequently have guests on the podcast but recently it was just the two guys and, in the clip we're featuring, they have a letter from a listener setting them straight on a movie-based issue. Improv 4 HumansUsually Matt Besser’s Improv 4 Humans is Matt and his guests improvising audio scenes based on listener’s suggestions. In this clip, Matt and one of his guests, Chris Gore, from PodCRASH, discuss the core essence of what improvisation is about, beyond the simple “yes and” belief that’s floating out there for years. Pep TalksThe week before last I reviewed Eddie Pepitone’s new podcast Pep Talks, part of the All Things Comedy Network, for Splitsider’s This Week In Comedy Podcasts. He’s just getting started, after years as one of the four hosts for The Longshot Podcast. Now it’s just Eddie, his head and also usually an interview guest. This clip is from his second episode, where he chats with Canadian comedian Glenn Wool, but what I’ve got here is from more of a one-man audio sketch Eddie did before the interview began. Don’t Quit Your DaycastWe haven’t checked in with podcaster and longtime listener and supporter Ed Wallick over at Don’t Quit Your Daycast in a while. He recently hit his episode 50 after being off for a bit due to health reasons. But he’s back and still doling out his Asshat Of The Week award! Doug Loves MoviesOur friend Tyson Saner clipped out part of a recent Doug Loves Movies episode. I do enjoy DLM but I somehow missed this moment when Doug Benson had Bert Kreischer, Lauran Lupus and Clare Kramer on and, partway through "The Leonard Maltin Game", Doug puts his spin on an idea that Bert had, and then Bert can’t stop laughing. The Comedy BuffetGot a note from Michael Powell, the "Tycoon of Comedy" and host over at The Comedy Buffet Podcast, who says, “Hey Marc, all your hard work has inspired me to put in at least a half assed effort in return. I finally pulled a clip from our show for you again. This is Episode 114 with special guest Mike Hammock, fill in co-host Steve Vanderploeg and our new co-host and pun meister Rick DeSimone…I know you took us to task last time I sent in a clip. We have still not done much with the website. So our official tag line is "Another comedy podcast? This can't possibly fail!" Are you ready? Here come some cow puns… The Todd Glass ShowI find comedian Todd Glass not only funny but an engaging podcast host. Our Honorary Associate Producer Tyson Saner found a great clip of Todd with guest Whitmer Thomas from “Power Violence”, which Tyson refers to a “Anti-Improv”. See for yourself how well it works… Please don’t forget to rate and review us up on iTunes, thumbs-up us on Twitter, Like our Facebook page and Like us on Soundcloud. Basically, do whatever you can to help us out for free in as many places as you can OR save all that virtual running around and kicks us a few bucks by either using the Donate button on SuccotashShow.com, buying some merch at SuccotashShow.com, or doing your holiday shopping on Amazon by using our portal at SuccotashShow.com. Enough begging. Until next time, please remember to pass the damned Succotash! — Marc Hershon
Here it is my new brand podcast. Made with my friend Ze Koé at TechGrooves Audio Studio. Enjoint it on loud.
It’s your ol’ pal, Marc Hershon, once again and I’ve got Epi72 of Succotash, the Comedy Podcast Podcast right here for you. I don't spend a whole lot of time jabberin’ because — as usual —I’m WAY behind getting the episodes out. And I have a healthy backlog of interviews from the 2nd Annual Podcast Festival from about 3 weeks ago now, which I can really only put these out one an episode AND still play clips from podcasts that were featured at PodFest. In addition, I’m now running into a pipeline problem in that the pipeline is filling up with content. Non-podfest content. Which is a good problem to have, but it means I’m going to interrupt the podfest interviews later this week and put out a show featuring two filmmaker friends of mine – Gabriel Diani and Etta Devine – because they just popped the top on a Kickstarter campaign for the new comedy feature film they putting together. It’s called Diani And Devine Meet The Apocalypse and so next episode that chat will be our centerpiece. After a bunch of clips are played, I have an interview with our Special Guest Shawn Merek. I got to know Shawn last year at the FIRST LA PodFest, when he was the producer for the PodCrash podcast with Chris Gore. He’s still producing for Chris but he’s also one of the guys helping to make all the shows go over at the Sideshow Network. Shawn popped into the Podcast Lab at the PodFest and we talked about him, his life as a producer and also where podcasting may be heading in the future. OTHER THAN CLIPS This episode, besides clips and the interview, we also have our Burst O' Durst with comedian Will Durst, a new song just in time for the upcoming holiday, A Stormtrooper for Halloween by John Anealio. John just released an EP with that song as the title track - one of four songs - that you can download for FREE at http://JohnAnealio.com (or you can also opt to kick John some dollars if you wish. WE did, but who are we to ask you for money?), and we also have a brand new Henderson's Pants commercial. TOP 10 MOST ACTIVE PODCASTS IN THE STITCHER TOP 100 COMEDY PODCAST LIST Exclusively from the Comedy Podcast Podcast, here's a list of the comedy podcasts that showed the most action - either up OR down the chart - from Stitcher's Top 100 Comedy Podcasts: 44. The Champs with Neal Brennan & Moshe Kasher +6048. The Artie Lange Show +1367. The Comedy Button +4468. The Dead Authors Podcast +11269. The Bone Zone +2289. The Dana Gould Hour -3294. Where’s My 40 Acres: Ratchet & Real +2395. Thrilling Adventure Hour -1397. Wits +1299. Kevin Pollak’s Chat Show +31 (Anyone have tips on how to get your Stitcher numbers up? Succotash is at 5859 this week. Which is up a thousand or so from last week, but still...) THE CLIPS Inverse DeliriumI like to think it’s a measure of this show's success that my supporting players are getting more airtime in Podcast Land than I am. Just this past week, Geoffrey Welchman over at the Inverse Delirium podcast tapped both my booth announcer Bill Heywatt AND the host of our Burst O’ Durst feature, comedian Will Durst, to provide their voices for a couple of characters in a sketch! Man SchoolJumping back a few weeks to the LA PodFest, we have a clip from Caleb Bacon’s Man School podcast which was done live at the Fest. You may remember that Caleb was the host of the Gentlemen’s Club podcast but hung up his bouncer’s dud for a professor’s hat when he debuted Man School. In this clip, we hear him with guest Chris Gore and Jason Smith, with kind of a sports/cosplay mashup chat going on. My Wife Hates MeTyson Saner - who continues to amaze me and delight you with his ability to send along multiple clips every week for this show - grabbed a clip from My Wife Hates Me with husband-and-wife comedians Rich Vos and Bonnie McFarlane, along with their guest (and past Succotash visitor) Andy Kindler. But we’re not done with Rich Vos yet. While at the LA PodFest, he hopped over and guested on… Road Stories with Murray ValerianoMurray was performing his podcaast live and I guess Rich Vos doesn’t just have it tough at home – he shared a couple of road horror stories from working gigs on the road… Story WorthyI ran into Christine Blackburn from the Story Worthy podcast in the Podcast Lab at the Festival. She hung out for a little bit – long enough to record an ID for the show but not a real interview. She had to run off to do her show, where one of the guest spinning a tale was Pearl Aday, who talked about meeting and bowling with Michael Jackson when she was just 10 years old. I Am IdiotI was trying to keep the clips on this episode reined in to just Podcast Festival shows, but there’s just too much going on. I like to celeberate when podcasts hit their Episode 100 but this time it’s a bittersweet hurrah. Our friends Howard, Keith and Ben in England, the brains behind the I Am Idiot podcast just dropped their centennial epi but, at the same time, they’ve announced it will be their LAST episode as well. Bummer. I swapped a couple of tweets with them and I found out that they had always planned to put in 100 shows and then move on to something else. So here’s a taste of the Final Idiot… Phil Hendrie's Hmm Mmmm with Bobby DooleyBack to the LA Podcast Festival, where Phil Hendrie was on hand with Phil Hendrie’s Hmm Mmmm with Bobby Dooley, one of the better known characters from Phil’s long running radio show. I’ve heard Phil as a guest on a couple of podcasts and, although he’s still doing some radio, he is embracing the podcast model. Here he is, as Bobby Dooley and her husband occasionally, along with his guest and Podcast Festival co-organizer Graham Elwood. The Science JerksTyson Saner found us a two-fer! One of the live shows at the PodFest was Stuff You Should Know with Josh Clark and Chuck Bryant. But they haven’t dropped their festival episode yet. They did sit down with Dave Ciaccio and Robert Chan, hosts of The Science Jerks podcast, for an interview in the Podcast Lab. Funny enough, I saw this interview going down about 6 feet away from where the Succotash table was set up. The guys talk about the theft of Einstein’s brain. Hope you don't mind that this show runs about an hour and a half with everything we've got going on. Once you've heard the clips, take some time out to go listen to these shows in their entirety. And, when you get done with that…don't forget to please pass the Succotash! — Marc Hershon
Did you hear the Disney angels singing hallelujah? For a long weekend in August, all the Disney stars aligned during Disney's big Comic-Con like event, the D23 Expo. Of course, MiceChat was there. We set up a huge booth and offered three days of Disney Celebrity meet and greets, giveaways, podcasts and more. But the big fish was Disney itself, who set up massive pavilions for Imagineering, Archives, Legends and more. In this show, we tie ropes around our waists and jump head first into the cave of Disney wonders. We make it back with quite a few gems to share. Chris Gore returns to promote his book/album Celebrities Poop while Kevin vaporizes beer, gives another update on his kidney stone and an awkward conversation with Geoff about promoting the show. NOTE: We're ALL STILL FRIENDS after this episode. Promise!
Chris Gore, from G4TV's Attack of the Show and the podcast PodCRASH!, joins Mark and Yeni to give his unique take on traveling while dating. Also, mobile fitness expert Isabelle comes on to talk about how you can stay fit when you're on the road. Check Isabelle out at http://www.izzyfit.me/
Soul Funk Beats is a fcnkg nice track selection made by myself and my friend Ze Koeh. Pump up the volume and enjoy !!! www.techgrooves.com
First thing you gotta know is that Epi61 is the longest installment of Succotash, the Comedy Podcast Podcast, that we've done to date. No particular reason for it. The interview with our Special Guest Graham Elwood comes in at about 30 minutes. But we've got a bunch of podcast clips to share, a Boozin' With Bill segment, the TweetSack section, our Burst O' Durst and a new song by musical geekmaster John Anealio. That, plus my usual rambling gum-flapping has us pushing the limits in terms of just how long someone can shovel Succotash into their earholes. Sue me - this stuff's free. I was delighted to talk at length with the aforementioned Graham Elwood. We had tried to link up when he was in San Francisco recently for a face-to-face sit-down but couldn't coordinate schedules. So we Skyped it and it came out fine. Graham's a comedian, an actor, a writer, a podcaster, and most recently, co-producer and organizer of the Los Angeles Podcast Festival (the 2nd annual is this October 4-6 in Santa Monica.) Along with his partner-in-crime Chris Mancini, Graham hosts the Comedy Film Nerds podcast and also co-authored the Comedy Film Nerds Guide to Movies. In addition, he is heard often on Doug Loves Movies, competing against the audience during Doug Benson's live shows on the road. We talk about how he got his comedy start, his podcast start, his podcast festival start...lots of starts. And, most important to our podcaster listeners, reveals what they have in store at this year's LA PodFest to let more of us get into the action of podcasting in relative comfort from the event. (And his latest CD, Palm Strike Dance Party, is available at http://Graham Elwood.com!) GET HIP It's not too late to help friend-of-Succotash Chris Bonno (interviewed in Epi43) as he's just gone through hip replacement surgery. Being as he' a comedian and a painter, he's got zip in terms of health insurance, so paying for his operation is going to be one giant mofo that Obama's health care program doesn't seem set to cover. You can find out how to kick a little money into the hip kitty through his website at http://ChrisBonno.com or else click on the link to get over to the GiveForward website where they're taking care of the funds as they come in. THE 10 MOST ACTIVE IN THE STITCHER TOP 100 COMEDY PODCAST LIST I realized that what I read The 10 Most Active in the Stitcher Top 100 Comedy Podcast List, veroften I don’t even know some of these shows I’m reading about. And they’re in the Top 100 of comedy podcasts – that’s out of literally THOUSANDS. So starting this week I’m going to pick one or two or a few to play clips from so we can all learn as we grow. Here’s the list of, again, the most ACTIVE shows on the list this past week. That means, regardless of their rank, they showed the most movement either up or down the chart. 47. The Champs with Neal Brennan & Moshe Kasher -1059. The World of Phil Hendrie +2163. Sir Darryl Radio Experience +33973. Sex Squad +1779. Conversations with Matt Dwyer +25780. The Dana Gould Hour -1581. Yoshi Didn’t Podcast -1482. Wits +2784. Rollin’ With Dice & Wheels +11398. SModcast FeAB -17 BURST O' DURST FROM THE OL' BOOMERAGER HIMSELF We have our usual Burst O' Durst feature but I wanted to remind those Succotashians who live in the San Francisco Bay Area that Will Durst still has a couple of Tuesday nights (thru June 25th) left in the run of his one-man show, BoomeRaging: LSD to OMG, at the Marsh Theater in San Francisco. Hop over to http://WillDurst.com for showtimes and ticket information. SING YOUR SONG, NERDY MUSIC MAN Our friend John Anealio - from The Functional Nerds podcast with co-host Patrick Hester - has a new song out and we've got it featured in this episode. I'll Be Your Thor is a love song from a nerd to his even nerdier lady for whom only one hero can save the day. Once you hear it on Succotash and you love it, you can download it for FREE over at http://JohnAnealio.com. STRAIGHT FROM THE BOTTLE Our Boozin' With Bill is a little different than our usual visit with Succotash's booth announcer cum bartender. He's unearthed an ancient bottle of creme de menthe and he's determined to see if it's still viable for getting a heat on. THE CLIPS The Sir Darryl Radio ExperienceI’m not sure what this show is all about – or why it shot up 339 places on the Stitcher Top 100 Comedy Podcasts this week. I listened to part of a recent episode where Sir Darryl, who bills himself on the homesite for the show as “The Most Articulate Negro in America”, starts drinking wine and apparently starts to get loopy within just a couple of minutes. Conversations with Matt DwyerComedian, actor and writer Matt Dwyer’s podcast is into its 50s, episode wise, and this week his show's Stitcher numbers leaped up 257 places this week! We feature a slice from his recent interview with Duncan Trussell, who is also a comedian and the host of the Duncan Trussell Family Hour. Rollin’ With Dice and WheelsDice is back. Celebrity Apprentice wasn’t enough and now Andrew “Dice” Clay and his longtime opening act Michael “Wheels” Parise have their own podcast. They’re only into their Epi8 and doing phenomenal numbers – up 113 places this week to make it into the Top 100 on Stitcher. In this recent episode we're clipping, comic Tom Green is co-hosting in place of Wheels. Pop My CultureWe haven’t looked in on Cole Stratton and Vanessa Ragland of the Pop My Culture podcast for awhile. They’re going great guns, after taking a little time away from the mikes, and just dropped their 116th episode, which features guest Dana Gould. Comic, actor, writer, he’s also the host of podcasting’s The Dana Gould Hour. (I’m also featuring this episode for my review in This Week In Comedy Podcasts over on Splitsider.com!) The Paul Mecurio ShowThe Sideshow Network has a massive pile of steaming comedy podcasts, with some really great shows like PodCRASH with THAT Chris Gore, Overview with our pal Rick Overton, and Story Worthy with Christine Blackburn & Hannes Phinney. It’s also home to The Paul Mecurio Show. I’ve clipped Paul here before but it’s been a while. Paul’s guest this week was Jay Leno. I don’t think I’ve heard of Jay being on any podcast before – is that possible? Anyway, Paul got him – they have a bit of a history together – Jay bought the very first joke Paul sold before, which gave him the inspiration to give up his law practice to become a comedian. The Bitter Sound PodcastAlthough I’ve played a few bits and pieces and show ID’s from Davian Dent over at The Bitter Sound podcast, I think I’ve yet to feature a bona fide clip…until now. He’s also a co-host of the Strange Times podcast along with Kat Sorens from the Rigid Fist podcast and Bonn from The Bonn & Obo show. But he’s off in his own thing here, with music, sounds and a great set of pipes to boot. The Geek GenerationRob Logan over at the Geek Generation podcast did what every red-blooded internationally-heard comedy podcaster should do – he sent in a clip! It’s easy to do: Just send along a 3-5 minute MP3 clip of your show to marc@SuccotashShow.com. If you want to include a little written descriptor of what the clip’s about, even better. Like Rob did – here’s what he says: "Rob Logan and Mike Volpe get inspired by the upcoming Fall TV schedule and pitch some show ideas of their own." Whew! That's a lot of show! Hope you enjoy it - don't be shy about letting folks know about it, either! Go on up to iTunes and give us a rating and a little review. And you can give us a thumbs up at Stitcher.com and leave a comment. Or visit our Facebook page and leave us a comment there. Then there's always Stitcher. See you in the next episode but, in the meantime, don't forget to pass the Succotash! — Marc Hershon
Welcome to Epi60 of Succotash, the Comedy Podcast Podcast! I feel like celebrating every ten episodes we get further down the podcasting road. And I hope you're enjoying listening as much as I enjoy putting this thing together. While we're got a few comedy podcast episodes to share this week, the bulk of Epi60 is given over to an interview I did recently with Marc Price. Yes, THAT Marc Price. Stand-up comedian since he was 14, an actor, a producer, and still most often recognized for the seven years that he appeared as Irwin "Skippy" Handleman on NBC’s Family Ties. Marc was passing through my hometown of Mill Valley a couple of weeks ago and played a Tuesday night at the 142 Throckmorton Theatre as part of the Mark Pitta & Friends show. I hadn’t seen him in quite some time so I was able to not only cajole him into sitting down and catching up, but doing so in front of our microphones. He's had a number of TV, movie and web opportunities over the years but, in hearing him tell his tale, the success brought into his life by Family Ties starting at the young age of 14 overshadowed a lot of other efforts. Mark Price with Michael J. Fox He was on a bit of a soul-searching trip along the West Coast, driving from gig to gig to get away from some hassles at home which he delves into during our chat. THE 10 MOST ACTIVE IN THE STITCHER TOP 100 COMEDY PODCAST LIST I didn’t do The 10 Most Active in the Stitcher Top 100 Comedy Podcast List last show, Epi59.5, because it was a special shortened show, but things have continued to slide around on that list without us so let’s take a look… 28. Friday Night Comedy from BBC Radio +737. The Champs with Neal Brennan & Moshe Kasher +2744. Sklarbro Country -1251. The Comedy Mixtape +2552. Off The air with Chick McGee +1453 The Bone Zone +979. Improv4Humans with Matt Besser +1881. SModcast FeAB -3082. Mike & Tom Eat Snacks +71 (Reviewed them last week!)98. The Tenderloins Podcast +26 BURST O' DURST In this week's installment, Raging Moderate Will Durst looks at The Tangle Tango, in which our intrepid correspondent tries desperately to extricate himself from the sticky embrace of two of America’s least favorite organizations. (Also: If you're going to be in the San Francisco area, be sure to catch Will's new one-man show BoomeRaging: From LSD to OMG, Tuesday nights through June 25th at the Marsh Theater.) THE CLIPS Here's The ThingNow that 30 Rock has finished, I guess Alec Baldwin’s podcast, Here’s The Thing, is all he has left. That, and Capital One commercials. His guest is veteran actor Stacy Keach and we've clipped a bit where he talks about taking on Shakespeare’s role of Falstaff when he was only about 30 years old, and the craziness of trying to star in a movie while commuting to Central Park at the same time. (BTW, I’m reviewing this particular episode for This Week In Comedy Podcasts on Splitsider.com!) Defective GeeksI saw the hosts of Defective Geeks, Gizzy and the Space Pirate Queen, a few months ago in LA at a show that Chris Gore from PodCRASH was having at IO West. Their podcast is a little unusual in that it features them: two LADY nerds who aren’t afraid to show it let their geek flag fly. In recent Epi118, they welcome the creator of web series Super Knocked Up, Jeff Burns, along with actors Jourdan Gibson (Darkstar) and Mark Pezzula (Captain Amazing). The series features the domestic disaster of what happens when a super hero and a super villainess hook up and he gets her pregnant. Aloe CourtHere's the story of this podcast. Once upon a time, it started out as Cinematic Method, a show where the hosts reviewed movie trailers. That's right. Not whole movies, just the previews. They then guessed how well the movie would do over on the Rotten Tomatoes website. But three of the guys - Kyle Coleman, Chris Russell, and Gerry Carey - decided to switch formats, focus on the funny, and do away (for the most part) with the movie talk. Does it work? Have a listen… And that's pretty much the story for Epi60 of Succotash, the Comedy Podcast Podcast. Bill Haywatt, our booth announcer, is on vacation this week, which means I had to do the Henderson's Pants commercial myself. But our esteemed collegue returns next episode for another installment of Boozin' With Bill. Until then, please pass the Succotash! — Marc Hershon
Ari David will be back in a few days but check out the PodCRASHed version of the Ari David Show from Chris Gore!
Salve Salve. Groove it on babe. Summer time !!! http://bit.ly/twittercrashtoniatti | http://bit.ly/foursquarecrashtoniatti http://bit.ly/soundcloudcrashtoniatti | http://bit.ly/youtubecrashtoniatti | http://bit.ly/racrashtoniatti http://bit.ly/bpcrashtoniatti
Happy holidays! Whether you're a Christmas-er, an Hanuakkat, or a Kwanza-hut, Succotash is damned glad to have you. "It's the time of miracles," said Alan Rickman's Hans Gruber in Die Hard and it's true. First of all, we're back in Studio P for the first time in many episodes. So good to have engineer/producer Joe Paulino back behind the controls. Not to mention Bill Haywatt, who has a fresh installment of Boozin' With Bill on tap this time around. Even Kenny Durgess, our booth assistant, is on the job and it's a great way to ring in the holiday season. I wanted to do something special for the holidays, so Epi44 is our Succotash Christmas Card to the illustrious members of the Pod Mafia. Who ARE the Pod Mafia? A loose collective of podcasters who have struck up a virtual (and sometimes actual) friendship via the web, and have actively worked to cross-promote each others' podcasts. I am pleased and honored to have been dubbed the Podfather by this crew, although I'm aware it's a precarious perch at best and someone else could shake me loose at any time. Nonetheless, for the meantime, as Podfather, it's my pleasure to offer up clips from the assembled members of the Pod Mafia this episode. One of the best things about getting to do an epi of Succotash in Studio P is that it puts us in proximity to Bill Haywatt's wet bar and give us a chance to present Boozin' With Bill. This time about, that workhorse of radio drops a great post New Year's hangover drink on us which he calls Harry Of The Dog That Bit You. It's named for Harry Morgan, with whom Bill worked on an old radio show called Mystery In The Air, and it's a real doozy. Burst O' Durst Our resident raging moderate, Will Durst, sounds off about gun control in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School nightmare. Holiday Reminder Show some love to your favorite podcasts by hopping up to iTunes and both rating and reviewing those same podcasts with lots of stars and glowing praise. Then do the same on Stitcher Smart Radio - go up to their website, search for your faves and give them a big ol "thumbs up!" Every little bit helps, and the more often you do it, the better their visibility gets on the charts. Sing A Song Of Yuletide I'm happy to be able to feature Is A Chupacabra Kosher?, a new song off the Season's Geekings EP by friend-of-Succotash John Anealio. Jump over to his website to give yourself a stocking stuffer: A free download of his holiday album! Happy Holidays From Henderson's Pants! We have a commercial this episode from our friends at Henderson's. More than a commercial, it's a tale done in the style of the popular Christmas poem, 'Twas The Night Before Christmas. Enjoy! A Good Run Our friend Caleb Bacon, host of The Gentlemen's Club podcast, has run down the curtain on that show after 154 episodes. I give him a final salute in the form of a review in This Week In Comedy Podcasts on Splitsider.com but don't despair— Caleb is already prepping to return in February 2013 with his new podcast, Man School! In his farewell episode, Caleb is interviewed as much as he interviews by his guest, That Chris Gore of PodCRASH podcast fame. The Clips As I mentioned above, all the clips this week save one are from members of the Pod Mafia. Dylan Brody's Neighbor's CouchAlthough Darren Staley is not a member of the Pod Mafia, I think he would be if he trafficked with out kind more. Last epi I though I was going to get to his clip but it didn't happen. So I promised him we'd give him pole position this time around. In addition to being a supporter Succotash his show's audio audio quality has gotten steadily better since I first started listening. And his guests are often, amazing, quite celebrity-statured. This clip features part of his chat with Rosanne Barr. Royal & DoodallTommy Royal of the Royal & Doodall show is – I'm pretty sure – the bloke responsible for coining not just the Pod Mafia name, but also for dubbing yours truly the Podfather. Unfortunately, Tommy is not in the show I'm clipping this episode. It seems he's been replace by Lady Isabel P., who co-hosts this installment with Angus Doodall. Don't miss their Christmas Panto show which should I have role in. See if you can pick out my voice — I’m an audio chameleon. Don't Quit Your DaycastEd Wallick from Don’t Quit Your Daycast is not just a member of the Pod Mafia but was inspired, in part, do put his own podcast together after hearing Succotash. He just had his one-year-a-versary show, where he ranted – Ed loves to rant – ranted about Thanksgiving with guests Taylor Ripley (aka @TurkReno) and Tom Bevis of the Destination Asphyxiation podcast. (We also have a Christmas Greeting called into the Succotash Hotline by Ed!) Destination AsphyxiationSince we have Ed Wallick and Tom Bevis in the same room – Tom was up from Southern California visiting Ed in Northern California, who turns out to be his uncle – let’s listen for the first time to a clip from Tom’s Destination Asphyxiation show. Oh, look – it’s Ed Wallick, ranting some more! The DHead FactorThough Jabs at The DHead Factor has other fellows who occasionally do the show with him in Canberra, Australia – like #FUJosh – he’s definitely the body and soul of the show and a stalwart member of the Pod Mafia. As the guy who kicked of International Succotash Show Day on December 4th – I hope you all celebrated it – he’s always saluted here at Studio P. Tiny Little Odd ConversationsMerry Christmas to Travis and Brandi Clark, the hosts of Tiny Odd Conversations. They were almost out of the Pod Mafia before it began toward the end last year because Travis was feeling like there was nowhere else to go with the show. I helped talk him off the ledge, and glad to have done so because we may never have gotten that great cookie recipe from Chef Eddie Vetter otherwise. Here’s part of a conversation that Travis and Brandi had on their Not The Holiday Special episode, about a homeless Santa they came across. Pissed Off ManI THINK Gavin from The Pissed Off Man Show is in the Pod Mafia. But I didn’t want to take a chance that he isn’t because he IS the Pissed Off Man. So Merry Christmas, Gee, and for a guy who says he doesn’t have much to be pissed off about on the last day of existence, according to the Mayan calendar, he still gets a few shots in… From Out Of NowhereThe From Out of Nowhere podcast – or FOONcast – with Eric Furniss and Rob Kern is really a music podcast but they’ve got a sense of humor and Eric is very active on Twitter as a member of the Pod Mafia. They’ve been doing their show from a local bar because their studio got damaged by Hurrican Sandy. The show I grabbed to clip from, however, actually features Rob in a bar interview he did awhile back with Motörhead's Lemmy Kilmister and Matt Sorum. Sorry, Eric – I was in a hurry! We’ll get your voice in there next time. So that's who's in our Christmas card to the members of the Pod Mafia. I hope I remembered everybody. And I know there are some folks in the Pod Mafia Irregulars that I wanted to clip this episode but there just wasn’t time. I WILL clip you guys next epi, but in the meantime, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to the folks behind Bonnandobo, The Brit And The American, Clutch & Wiggle, The Random Variety Show and Toggle The Switch! Happy holidays to everybody (especially those of you who have discovered, listened to, and enjoy our show!), and may you all have a great new year, in which you should remember, for the sake of all that's holy, to pass the Succotash! Marc Hershon
I'm trying desperately to get this edition of the Comedy Podcast Podcast up while it is still officially International Succotash Day. (As so declared by the inimitable Jabs of The DHead Factor podcast in Australia.) All day long our podcaster friends have been tweeting and messaging words of praise and support for the show — thanks, everybody! — and I've been enjoying seeing the number of downloads and the reviews and ratings go up! I'm Marc, he's THAT Chris Gore… Great fun this episode with my special guest co-host That Chris Gore onboard. Chris, the host of the PodCRASH podcast as well as regular on G4's Attack Of The Show, was in San Francisco for Stitcher's Podcast Awards. We talked about his tenure as publisher of one of my favorite magazines, FilmTHREAT, as well as his multi-pronged career doing all kinds of cool stuff in TV, the internet and film. Chris picked some nice clips for this epi, all of which I'd never covered before, and after we talked about his podcast — listeners of Succotash have heard from PodCRASH here previously — where he appears on other podcasts, then plays excerpts on his show. Which means that you've be able to hear part of this episode of Succotash on a future episode of PodCRASH. It's as about as meta an experience as you're likely to find. Two Marcs: Maron & Hershon Last Minute: Since I was late getting this up, I can tell you that I DID end up attending the Stitcher Awards with special guest co-host Chris and it was a grand time. I met the CEO of Stitcher, Noah Shanok, and even got a picture with the evening's host, WTF's Marc Maron. Sadly, though nominated for both Best New Show and Best Album Artwork, Chris didn't end up taking up an Itchy or whatever they call their awards. CLIPS PodCRASH A clip from PodCRASH epi55, wherein our guest co-host Chris Gore crashes Zane Lamprey Live. The main ingredient here seems to be alcohol. Cheers! Joe Rogan ExperienceComedian and UFC commentator Joe Rogan, well-known for hosting TV's Fear Factor, hosts a daily podcast where he talks to other comics, friends and just plain interesting folks. His show is part of the Deathsquad network of podcasts. Lost Moon RadioI met someone attached to Lost Moon Radio at the LA PodFest in October and he suggested I check it out. Now we're doing the same for you. Chris and I both loved the sound and feel of this sketch group out of Los Angeles, high prise considering this is only their third podcast. Pointless: With Kevin PereiraBest known as the co-host (and Chris Gore's colleague) on Attack Of The Show on G4, host Kevin Pereira has kicked off a new podcast on the Deathsquad network. In this clip he's chatting it up with successful YouTube video creator Freddie Wong. No Pressure To Be FunnyI'm a huge fan of dry, witty, and biting British comedy. Having cut my teeth on Monty Python way back when they first crept into the US, I'm pleased to discover No Pressure To Be Funny. Hosted by James O’Brien, created by with Nick Revell and Alistair Barrie, each episode pulls a panel together from the arts, media and politics, where they then chat about that week's news in front of a live audience. This clip features Revell with a monolog about the war in Afghanistan, in a style that smacks of Douglas Adams. Brilliant. Throwing ShadeChis brings in this clip from Throwing Shade, a new-to-me podcast. Hosts Erin Gibson and Bryan Safi are both prolific writers and comedians whose weekly show focuses on politics, entertainment, gay rights and women's issues. This is pretty damn funny chat. RIFF-erendumSan Francisco-based comedians Steven Pearl and Al Clethen, a couple of buddies of mine, started up RIFF-erendum so they could converse with some of THEIR favorite comedians and musicians. In the latest episode, they chew the fat with fellow Bay Area comic Jeff Applebaum. We close out Epi42 with the return of Will Durst and his Burst O' Durst. With the elections over, our Ambassador to the Middle sets his sights on what the lame ducks in Congress are doing…or not doing…as the year winds down. We're hoping to grace a pre-Christmas episode with a live appearance by the aforementioned Will Durst. By the way, if you're doing some driving over this holiday season, just remember that a long car ride is an excellent place to pass the Succotash! — Marc Hershon
Getting very excited as the holiday season looms. Not so much for Hanukkah or Christmas, but for Succotash Day! It's coming up on Tuesday, December 4th, and it's all thanks to Jabs, the main man at The DHead Factor podcast in Australia. (We talked about it when he was my special guest co-host in Epi40, if you missed it…) Given our production schedule, this show — Epi41 — is about as close as we're going to get to celebrating it on the air (on the pod?), although we might surprise you. Click over to Jabs' show on the day and find out which other podcasts will be talking about us — and we'd appreciate any ratings, reviews and other kudos that you might want to foist upon us up at iTunes, Stitcher and anywhere else Succotash is heard. Getting on with this show, I've got my interview with Special Guest Hal Sparks. As I already apologize to Hal in the epi, I recorded our chat two months ago, when he was doing a couple of shows at Yoshi's in San Francisco. I would have gotten this up earlier but…it's Succotash. One of these days we'll actually get everything together on time. But Hal was a terrific interview and, what's more, it was a real treat to see him live. As long as I've been in the comedy world, our paths have never crossed and I've only seen him on TV, in the movies, heard his voicework…but never seen him on stage. check out his homesite for his live appearances and radio shows! DO IT FOR THE KIDS! I also have a chat via Skype with Ethan Dettenmaier, host of Combat Radio, about his upcoming 2nd Annual Christmas Breakfast for Homeless Children. That's happening on Saturday, December 8th, at the Salt Creek Grille in Valencia, CA. It was nice to connect with Ethan live after playing a few of his clips on the show, and to hear about this great cause he's putting together to bring Christmas morning to some kids who might otherwise be having nothing but pain this year for the holidays. POD MAFIA ASSEMBLE! As mentioned on this podcast, I got the opportunity to have an informal get-together (AKA beers) with two members of the still-coagulating Pod Mafia. Ed Wallick of Don't Quit Your Daycast and Tom Bevis, host of Destination Asphyxiation, met up with me in San Francisco over the Thanksgiving weekend and we chatted about all things podcasty. Great to see those guys and be sure to check out their shows. JUST IN TIME FOR THE HOLIDAYS! If you're looking to do some cyber Christmas shopping this year and Amazon is your destination, you can help put a little something in the ol' Succotash stocking by clicking on our Amazon carousel at the bottom of our homesite to get there. That way, Amazon shaves off a tiny bit of whatever you spend with them and kicks it back to us. On the other hand, browing through our Succotashery might be just the thing if you're looking for some of our lovely merch to make this holiday season bright! CLIPS! Besides the two interviews in Epi41, we even had room for a few clips. Here's what you'll hear on the show this time around: The Fireside ChroniclesI’ve been seeing tweets by The Fireside Chronicles for a bit now and lo and behold, a clip from that show in England arrived in our Tweetsack! Hosted by Waggy, Matty & Phil, it’s become the sort of flagship show for a little network of podcasts which includes Principa Hypothetica, The Bedside Chronicles, The Kalahari Chronicles and The Ringside Chronicles. In this clip, they mostly talk about sausage rolls… Ratchet & The GeekOver on Splitsider.com in the This Week in Comedy Podcasts column, I’m reviewing Ratchet & The Geek with Luvvie Ajayi and Scott Hanselman. They’ve only put up their 3rd show but they already have over 10,000 downloads. Luvvie runs a highly read comedy blog and Scott's digital nerdiness spreads out in a blog and two other podcasts about tech. It’s entertaining chat, blending gadget talk with current events – their homesite calls it “The Intersection of social media, pop culture and technology.” The Sibling Rivalry PodcastI found Jeremy Grater, Aaron Ristow, and Stacy Black with a random grab off of iTunes' New & Noteworthy this week to bring you a clip from The Sibling Rivalry Podcast. (You have to understand that “New and Noteworthy” is a bit of a misnomer, especially when they have a show like Sibling Rivalry because this clip is from their 309th show!) That it for Epi41. Next show I will have Special Guest Host That Chris Gore from the PodCRASH podcast with me, pulling clips and kicking back in San Francisco. Happy Succotash Day (December 4th), everybody! What a great day to pass the Succotash! — Marc Hershon

Good Music 4 Smart People! In this edition of PodCrash me and my great friend Felipe Bello got the good old path of Blues, a musical form vocal and / or instrumental that is based on the use of notes played or sung in a low frequency, with expressive purposes, avoiding scale notes higher, always using a repetitive structure. Good Music 4 Smart People!

The Post Game Report gets Podcrashed by Chris Gore. The DCD interviews Chris Gore at E3 2012.
Enjoy! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I recall this episode with my friend Felipe Bello the time he wore a beautiful orange mohawk during my two years as solo guitarist of my defunct band of hard core UPGRADE, and my longing Guitar Epiphone Slash Snake Pit Special Edition, which was widely used on guitar lessons that ministered to many students. Brian Scolaro Vs. Chris Gore in a trash talk take down. These guys complain like they were served cold soup at a deli. But these two great ath-tweets save it for the court. Hosted by Jonathan Corbett. If you like the show join us on Facebook, tweet your friends and rate us on itunes. Warning: This episode has some blue material. Not appropiate for youngsters. So youngsters, don't let your parents know you are listening.
This week, we get Podcrashed by Chris Gore. Chris has a podcast called Podcrash where he visits another podcast every show in a podmatch. Two podcasts enter and then we both furiously edit and release the best bits. Chris is known from his DVDuesday segments on G4TV and has a long history in the indie film and videogame scenes.
Thanks to Twitter, NFA connected with—and was happy to have—comedian, G4TV host and PodCRASH Show's Chris Gore on our latest podcast with host and featured CFB writer Matt "Bax" Baxendell, along with NFA founder and senior writer Daniel Wolf. Bax and Gore talked about football movies and the Detroit Lions, and all three guys talked about Super Bowl XLVI while making their picks and reminiscing about past Super Bowl commercials. Take a listen to a very entertaining episode of National Football Authority Radio.
