Once we discover that our our deepest insights spring from a reflective mental state, how do we invite others to join us in that kind of open-minded, listening space? As writers, how can we help elicit that sort of reflection in the reader? As teachers, how can we do so for our students? As people with families, friends, and colleagues, how can we do this in our personal lives? This perhaps begins to move us beyond the inside-out paradigm and point to the ways in which we are all a part of a single, formless, energy of connection. Join Jeanne Catherine & Brooke Bishop as we discuss, engage and explore the issue of formless spiritual energy in a physical world - where we are exposed to racism, violence, fear, loss and in many cases systemic oppression. Brooke Bishop is a writer, mentor, and Master's candidate in Rhetoric and Composition at Oregon State University. With a background in theatre and filmmaking, Brooke is passionate about using storytelling, connection, and collaboration to awaken folks to their innate source of resilience, presence, and compassion. She is the Founding Editor of The Daily Lift on Medium.com, which seeks to do just that. Her graduate research is focused on unleashing the potential of rhetoric and pedagogy to inspire reflection and trigger insights. You can find out more and read her work at www.brookebishop.com
When someone is a victim of crime all sorts of emotions and feelings are evoked especially when the crime involves violence or harm against ourselves or someone we love. Prisons are full of people who have done such things. Our communities are full of people who act out of poor states of mind and harm other people. Nobody wants this. However, our current attitude and response to such things is to 'lock em up and throw away the key'. What about if there was another way? What about if we look at whats behind the way people behave? Not their background or the trauma they may have had. But how it works, what is the system. What about instead of looking at these individuals as liabilities and 'wrong un's' if we look for the innate health and show them how to tap into that?It may seem far fetched but what we have found over the last 2.5 years in the Criminal Justice System is that looking at what is right with people instead of what is wrong has had them find their own inner resilience; their own peace of mind and their own compassion. Finding these inbuilt human gifts transforms behaviour in every aspect of their lives. Turning those who were once liabilities into assets and creating a ripple effect that impacts the prison system, the mens families, the community and beyond.

It seems like a life time ago; the first time I was groped on the subway by a strange "old" man; the time my high school was dismissed early, a SWAT team guns aimed down from the roof, to dissuade gang activity; friends asking me to use my whiteness to get a taxi for us. Perhaps this sounds like a bad movie but it was a part of my childhood growing up in NYC.After years of random acts of violence, I packed my silence into my body. With two working parents, caught in their own realities, I didn't know any other way to take care of myself. I got sick, felt pain, and hooked on pain relief medication and alcohol. Now I barely remember that life! I can't believe I was just describing me. Did a miracle happen? No, I discovered how my human experience worked and the implications of this simple understanding transformed my experience of life forever.I wouldn't do this show, and share all this personal stuff, it I didn't know that everyone has the same capacity for insight, healing and better outcomes in experience. Join us this Monday to hear my story and find out how change happens from the inside-out.Host:Jeanne Catherine-Gray started her business with NO MONEY. A stay at home mom with PTSD; going through a demanding and rigorous divorce process in Charlottesville, VA. Jeanne dreamed of finding personal freedom and ease of mind with other human beings. Jeanne rented a space with NO IDEA of where the rent would come from. Deeply committed to transforming the landscape of contemporary psychology and its applications in the real world, Jeanne has successfully built a community of practitioners and provides training programs for coaches and therapists. Her voracious intellectual curiosity and comfort with listening for insight is complemented by her capacity for action, and genuine care for other human beings. Jeanne values a principle-based understanding that naturally improves listening and well-being; increasing peace of mind, community satisfaction and desirable outcomes. With twenty-four years of experience working with groups, Jeanne’s willingness to go straight to the heart of the problem, and not be afraid of anything, reaps great benefits at work (http://www.divineplay.com), as a host on the radio show, Waking Up: The Neuroscience of Awareness (http://www.ctrnetwork.com) and as a volunteer mediator & parent educator in Charlottesville, VA.
