In today's episode I had the pleasure sitting down with returning guest (and one of my favorite coaches and humans), the wonderful Rob Cook. Rob and I explore the stories we make up in our head, a.k.a., "the causes of no one," in order to align with our self created, insecure egoic templates that innocently serve and protect us from a phantom problem and made up conflict. Once we become aware that we are making up our reality every second of our day we are more aware the illusory nature of our thought created human experience. About Rob: Rob Cook (www.imrobcook.com) is a decorated Air Force Veteran, he is a brilliant Speaker, Host & Coach, and Founder of unFIT the brand. Born and raised in the housing projects of Birmingham, Alabama, Rob sought to create a brighter future than what awaited many young Black men who grew up there. He joined the United States Air Force, where Rob became a decorated combat veteran. After 21-years of active duty service he retired, moved to the Los Angeles area to transition into civilian life. Rob became a certified life coach through Supercoach Academy, discovering an ideal balance between the mental and physical realms in his work as a coach. As the founder of unFIT, he offers a fresh approach to thriving in the whole experience of life through coaching, training, workshops, and speaking events for start-ups, non-profit organizations, Fortune 500 companies, and everything in between.
In this episode I had the honor of sitting down with the amazing Rob Cook. Rob shares his own heroes journey about his past conditioning and learning to live from the "inside out." Creativity, a form of parenting. If I were to describe this conversation with Andy Mort, that would be it. How creativity is a form of parenting. With the birth of a creative output of some kind, be it music, writings, art or any number of other possible ‘babies'. Tending to a newborn, quite fragile, needing a lot of attention and care, incapable of caring for itself. ‘Advancing the songs that I talked about last time, which had come out of nowhere and are now growing up very fast, like good little children.' ~Andy Mort Before you know it the toddler starts to explore the world, going farther and farther from mother and/or father, becoming a child, a teen, getting ready to go it alone, but still needing that steady rock that a parent (hopefully) is. There, always and already there for one's child. Suddenly, the day comes when the kid is no longer a kid but a young adult, ready to leave the nest and go out into the world on its own. ‘[…] that would be trying to force a newborn baby to talk or walk before they've naturally got to that place in their development.' ~Andy Mort Last time we talked, Andy had just given birth to thirteen songs, and this time, he's spent some time putting rhythm and a bit of vocals to them, close to having fully formed demo's, to quote him. Thing is, when you are busy with a newborn creation (Andy's thirteen songs, my current project The Book on Fear), it's so easy to evict the budding teen's of one's creative output way before they are ready to stand on their own legs. For Andy, The Return to Serenity Island, a stand-alone-course he set up in the spring. For me, Doing Gentle with an Edge, the e- and audiobook released in the spring. But then what? Busy with creative newborns, we are very slack parents for our teens. They also need attention (read: marketing, appreciation, being mentioned and introduced to new acquaintances and so on), more than we both give them. If you are a creative giving birth to creative endeavours outputs, babies of any kind, do you recognise yourself in this analogy? If so, I am betting on you finding a few pieces of tankespjärn here. And if you don't view yourself as a creative, hm… What if, just maybe, you actually are? QUOTE OF THE DAY: I had to learn the difference between pain and suffering. Learn how to separate suffering from pain. - Gary Stine -- In this episode of “Dream it! Dare it! Do it! Live the Life You Want!”, I am speaking with Gary Stine. Gary and I met during SuperCoach Academy. Gary has been a coach for the past 25 years, since stumbling upon the three principles he clarified and identified a shift in the way he experiences life. He helps people go from self-consciousness to self-confidence. He is presently working on his new website and will also be launching a program for people who are experiencing constant pain to inspire them to learn how to separate suffering from pain. For more than twenty years, Gary has coached hard-working individuals and organizations to tap into their unlimited potential. The result is an amazing combination of more success with less stress. Helping individuals tap into the unlimited potential available to all of us brings them dramatically improved performance and a sense of overall ease and well-being that may have been absent from their lives. Gary (Breads, my meandering conversation-partner of this podcast episode) volunteers as an interfaith chaplain at a local hospital, something that has us diving deep into the concept (? Is that what it is?) of connection. When I did SuperCoach Academy in 2014, one of four weekends was dubbed connection weekend. The message from Michael Neil was that connection is already there. It's not something we have to create, because it is the base, always and already there. Gary gave me some tankespjärn when it comes to connection, because I've been confusing it with the pull of wanting connection. Now and again, Gary comes across a patient at the hospital who asks him to leave their room, they are not interested in his offering of presence, silence, prayer, conversation, or whatever it might be. The push of not wanting connection, in essence, and Gary said But that's still connection. Regardless if it's a pull towards or a push to put more distance between you, it's still all about connection. Huh! I found that so interesting. What Gary does when a patient is clear in asking him to leave again, is honor them. That's the best way he can show respect to them, by honoring their wishes. Listening to Gary speak about what might happen within him when this occurs, makes me treasure him even more, as it's so apparent that he does his homework. If someone asks him to leave, that's all about them, but it might well be a trigger for something within Gary to open up. Being rejected. Not wanted. Perhaps feeling insignificant or without value. Tending to himself, not in that moment, because he's there in a professional context (regardless of being a volunteer or not), but not pushing it to the side. It's important to deal with our own stuff, also because it helps keep us resourced to manage similar situations in the future, possibly minimizing the trigger-effect. As a professional coach, I always meet with potential clients before agreeing to work together. In essence, we are both auditioning for each other, because I want the pull to be there. For both of us. But not all professions have this opportunity. A teacher is to teach all the students placed in his or her class. A physician is faced with the patients that cross their path, and they are bound by the hippocratic oath to tend to them. Regardless if the connection, always and already present, gives off vibes that repels or draws closer. That's where the professional floor, that me and Frank spoke about in episode 17, is so crucial. Where in your life are you faced with having to step up to this professional floor, regardless if you want to or not? Now there's some tankespjärn for you. Rob Cook takes us on an epic journey through his life, from being born and raised in the housing projects of Birmingham, Alabama, to 21 years of active duty service in the military, to moving to L.A. and becoming a transformational life coach. He humbly shares about transitioning from living like he thought he should, to living as a man can -- as a person in touch with their essential nature. Rob takes pages from his past professions to help inform the myriad of offerings he brings to the table today. While many have told him he needs to focus his professional energy in one arena, he has thrived by not limiting himself to one offering and seeing how several teachings and avenues can connect with each other. For example, why focus solely on mindset coaching when he can do that as well in fitness training? He sees how the two are perfectly married. And when helping companies grow their business, he draws upon lessons learned in the military, such as team dynamics, collaboration, and leadership. Rob is a force to be reckoned with! And the love he shares with his partner Laurie is inspiring. The way he talks about their relationship, and what he has learned from her, brings laughter and tears. Don't miss Rob's epic keys to success, which include "moving often" and "laughing a lot." We are much the wiser after getting to speak with Rob Cook! This episode explores:Breaking rules that don't line up with our essential natureWho am I?Laughter happens in the moment Not having to act like a man -- I am a man.The understanding that changed "every aspect" of Rob's lifeMilitary as a microcosm of society -- we're all people first.Letting go of the ego's grip.Accepting others for who they areTry to get each moment right, not all of it right.Partners that change our lives.Rob Cook is a Mindset Coach and creator of the unFIT brand. Cathy is a former international economist and policy adviser turned three principles coach. For over twenty years she was an advisor to governments and international organisations around the world, including seven years as a development economist in Southern Africa. In her mid-40s, she left a job she loved for reasons she cannot describe. Having previously dipped into the teachings of Michael Neill, it took a challenge from a mastermind partner to prompt her to take another look at coaching. She went on to train in Micheal Neill's Supercoach Academy and today works with clients in leadership roles and in the arena of social change. In this episode, we talk about:Why we lose our way when we talk about politics. The joy of making it up. How she structures her coaching packages and the great freedom of making it up as you go along.Listening for signals. And, the paradoxical nature of it. How determining what to pay attention to and what to ignore really comes back to the question of ‘Am I being my higher self?'.The things we get too attached to: our lived experience, the personal nature of creation and worshipping the god of intellect.Plus, the age-old debate about which way the forks go in the dishwasher - when it matters and when it really doesn't. And, the simplicity at the heart of parenting how its really just about pouring love on your child..For more information about Cathy, visit: www.cathypresland.comFor information about Robbie's wider work and writing, visit www.robbieswalecoaching.com.For more information on the new training from Marcia Reynolds (the guest in Episode #14), which Robbie mentioned in the introduction, visit https://coach.wbecs.com/Marcia-Reynolds/a182301Music by My Good Man William: listen on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/4KmeQUcTbeE31uFynHQLQgThings we talked about that you might find interesting:~18: Dave Snowden's Cynefin Framework: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cynefin_framework~32: Michael Neill: https://www.michaelneill.org/~42: Michael Neill Training programmes: https://www.michaelneill.org/sci/~44: Syd Banks: http://sydbanks.com/~45: The Three Principles: https://3pgc.org/~1.05: Jonathan Haidt: https://jonathanhaidt.com/~1.05: Jonathan Haidt's The Righteous Mind: Why Good People are Divided by Politics and Religion: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Righteous-Mind-Divided-Politics-Religion/dp/0141039167~1.05: Jonathan Haidt's The Coddling of the American Mind: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Coddling-American-Mind-Intentions-Generation/dp/0141986301/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=the+coddling+of+the+american+mind&qid=1601048128&s=books&sr=1-1~1.06: Jonathan Haidt Quote: https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/645384-morality-binds-and-blinds-it-binds-us-into-ideological-teams~1.09: Jordan Hall: https://www.youtube.com/c/JordanGreenhall/featured~1.26: Rich Litvin: https://richlitvin.com/~1.45: Robert Holden quote: https://tendingjoy.com/blogs/tending-joy/god-spoke-today-in-flowers~1.52: The War of Art by Steven Pressfield: https://www.amazon.co.uk/War-Art-Through-Creative-Battles/dp/1936891026~1.52: Robert Holden: https://www.robertholden.com/~1.54: Celtic Goddess/Sovereignty article: http://dangerouswomenproject.org/2016/11/15/the-dangerous-women-of-irish-;mythology/~2.01: The Inside-Out Revolution by Michael Neill: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Inside-Out-Revolution-Thing-Change-Forever/dp/1781800790~2.01: The Space Within by Michael Neill: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Space-Within-Finding-Your-Back/dp/1781806489/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=michael+neill&qid=1600694112&s=books&sr=1-4~2.01: Michael Neill's Supercoach Academy: http://www.supercoachacademy.com/~2.02: The Three Principles YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaY2LdDLITzIlszwA8ubVxg

A very topical subject this week...climate change and the rapidly evolving environments we are all finding ourselves in. The Unashamedly Human Podcast this week is with Kimberley Hare. You can find out more about this fabulous woman at :www.heartofthriving.com Her bio: I am a writer, a coach, and facilitator. My work is informed by my understanding of the Three Principles, or the Inside-Out Understanding of the human experience. My passion is to help people wake up to their own innate resilience, clarity, love, creativity and well-being, so that they can truly thrive as a human being. Before coming to this understanding in 2009, I was an acknowledged expert in the Neuroscience of Leadership, Engagement and Culture Change, Positive Psychology, Social Psychology and Influencing, NLP, and Brain-Friendly Learning. I am a master transformative coach, certified by Michael Neill, have been a mentor on his Supercoach Academy, and am a CpF (Certified Professional Facilitator). I've authored three books. The first two were about the neuroscience of learning. My latest book "The He'Art of Thriving" was published in June 2017. After 35 years leading a successful consulting and training business, I was ‘nudged' to close this down as a commercial enterprise in August 2019 after waking up to the climate and ecological emergency. These days I spend the majority of my time leading retreats and workshops, coaching people who are suffering from climate distress, and creating local resilient communities. All my work is done in the gift.
