This Podcast Episode is on “from the vault.” This episode has a very personal side and connection for Kindra and her guest, Jean Brunson.    In this podcast episode, Kindra dives into a candid conversation about the evolution of the podcast and its focus on improving company culture. They reflect on how Jean was the one that pushed Kindra towards a more inclusive approach, emphasizing the significance of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility, and Belonging (DEIAB).   The conversation touches on the challenge of addressing diversity and inclusion in the workplace, acknowledging the reluctance some individuals may have in expressing their feelings or concerns due to fear of repercussions. The hosts highlight the need for safe spaces to have open conversations about diversity, recognizing the unique struggles faced by different communities.   As the discussion weaves through personal experiences and the impact of diversity in various settings, it emphasizes the multifaceted nature of company culture. They share insights on how the podcast evolved to embrace a broader definition of company culture, extending beyond big corporations to encompass small businesses and diverse groups.   The episode also delves into the significance of Juneteenth, tying it to the broader conversation on diversity, inclusion, and belonging. The hosts discuss the recent federal recognition of Juneteenth as a holiday and reflect on the importance of acknowledging historical events that have shaped the experiences of black communities.   Throughout the episode, there is an emphasis on the power of conversations, the importance of listening, and the need to create spaces where diverse voices can be heard. Kindra and Jean share their personal growth through this journey, illustrating the transformative impact of intentional efforts to embrace diversity and foster inclusivity in both professional and personal spheres.   Thank you Jean Brunson for your contribution to the growth of the Culture Crush Business and Podcast.    A little about Jean Brunson:  Accomplished veteran of the United States Army with a Master of Social Work Degree and 19+ years of experience within the military community, as well as expertise in program and curriculum development, mental health, veteran's advocacy, and case management.   She is a superior coach and mental health subject matter expert capable of collaborating with diverse populations. Dependable self-starter and valuable team-player that has proven to be an advocate for change and support to the community.    A little about the host, Kindra Maples:    Kindra Maples is spartan racer, past animal trainer, previous magician's assistant, and has a weakness for Oreo Cookies. Her journey working with people actually started working with animals as a teenager (don't worry we won't go that far back for her bio).   She worked for over 15 years in the zoo industry working with animals and the public. Her passion for working with animals shifted into working with people in education, operations and leadership roles. From there her passion of leadership and helping people develop has continued to grow.   Then came the opportunity to lead the Culture Crush Business Podcast and she jumped on it. Deborah Trent was a typical substance abuse counselor who wanted to make a difference in the lives of her clients. In 2001 Debbie stumbled upon the 3 Principles, a common-sense approach to how people experience life that stressed a foundation of innate mental health. It rang true to her and changed her approach to working with clients in every setting from that point forward. In today's show, listen in to Jeanne and Debbie's conversation about 15 years of working with the 3 principles in addiction counseling. Real people, inspiring stories and transformation! Ready to learn more? Join Debbie on the addiction track at The Awesome Event!Deborah Trent was always drawn to helping others find a happier and more peaceful life. She first attempted that by following traditional paths and acquiring a Bachelor of Science in Social Work Degree, followed by a Master’s Degree and an Education Specialist Degree, both in Counseling. She loved working as a therapist, but felt there was a missing piece that she needed to find to share with people that would give deeper, longer lasting relief from their issues, and permanent peace of mind.Deborah has worked in community, nonprofit and private practice settings. Most recently she played a role in the opening a 3-Principle based inpatient substance abuse treatment center in Gulf Breeze, Florida, first as their lead trainer and later as the clinical director. Recently Deborah moved to Dunedin, Florida where she is helping to open an out-patient treatment center in the Tampa Bay Area, based of course, on the knowledge that all people have innate mental health and can find a substance free way to happiness and peace of mind.

You DO Deserve a Wonderful Life with Sammy Rangel – 10-22-16 | Mind Body Spirit Living When you were young, what did you imagine your life would be like when you grew older?  You might have had images and expectations of a family, a home, a fulfilling career, or many of the other trappings of what most would consider a rich, wonderful life.  But sometimes perceived wrongdoings  in our past, or a low sense of self worth can make us believe a story that we don’t deserve to have a rich, wonderful life.  Or maybe those around us have led us to believe that we are not qualified or worthy to fulfill our dreams.  This story that we tell ourselves about what we “deserve” in life can be a roadblock to achieving our own potential and keep us from seeing our life unfold in ways that would fill us with joy and satisfaction.  How can we change the story in our heads so that we truly believe we deserve to live a wonderful life? Joining us this week is one of our most popular guests, who has overcome his own challenging past to help inspire and coach others to truly believe that they too deserve good things in their life, for themselves and their family. Sammy Rangel was born into abuse, and spent most of his early years in mental institutions, foster homes, and detention homes. He embraced violence at the age of 11, joining the Maniac Latin Disciples gang and spending long periods in prison. It wasn’t until a drug abuse program helped him rehabilitate that Sammy began to further his education and start working for a Safe Streets Outreach Program in Wisconsin. Today, he serves on the board of the organization Life After Hate and consults with law enforcement on addressing and curtailing gang behavior. Sammy is the author of the autobiography FOURBEARS: The Myths of Forgiveness. In 2004 Sammy graduated from Gateway Technical College-Racine and from Carthage College with a Bachelors of Social Work Degree with a minor in Psychology, Cum Laude. In 2009 Sammy graduated with a Master of Social Work Degree, Summa Cum Laude, with a mental health focus, from Loyola University-Chicago. Sammy currently serves as the Senior Director for Program Management and Development for the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Wisconsin.  He previously served as the Programs Director for the Re-Entry Division of Racine Vocational Ministry. Sammy has also worked at the Racine County Jail as a Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor helping men and women with addictive and criminal lifestyles. Sammy contributes to the community by sitting on various committees that address race, homelessness, crime, gang activity or drug abuse issues among our youth and adults. He is also the founder of Formers Anonymous, an organization with a mission to help people move beyond their addiction to street life. Sammy is an in-demand speaker and has spoken about his story to audiences around the world. In May 2015, he appeared on stage at the TedX Conference in Budapest speaking on “The Power of Forgiveness”. Re-Thinking Your Purpose with Sammy Rangel – 4-9-16 | Mind Body Spirit Living The journey we embark on in the early part of our lives is heavily influenced by our family circumstances, environment, and cultural influences.  The path that we initially take often must be re-considered when we enter a new stage of life, and realize that what we thought was working in our life is no longer working. This is particularly true in situations defined by difficult circumstances such as a life of abuse, crime, or addiction.  When the circumstances that created our path are no longer available, or no longer an option, how do we re-think what our purpose is, and find a new definition of our life’s calling?  This week we are joined by a guest who has not only personally navigated his own journey of re-thinking his purpose, but now helps others re-think theirs as well. Sammy Rangel was born into abuse, and spent most of his early years in mental institutions, foster homes, and detention homes.
