Strange but true - people with difficult names to pronounce are discriminated against. It is often not intentional, but it happens. The result can be that you don't advance personally or professionally just because people have trouble saying your name. This episode begins by taking a look at this problem and what you can do to help yourself if your name is tough to say out loud. https://www.newyorker.com/tech/annals-of-technology/the-power-of-names When you think about it, some of the most successful people you meet appear to have a lot of confidence. It's an attractive quality when we see it in others and many of us wish we had more of it ourselves. Is there a way to authentically build up your confidence? There is according to my guest Lydia Fenet who is here to tell you how. Lydia is an ambassador for the famous auction house Christie's and she is an auctioneer and professional speaker. She is also author of the book Claim Your Confidence (https://amzn.to/3GQu8ZS). Everyone procrastinates. After all, what could be easier than NOT doing something? Still, procrastination often turns out to be a lousy strategy. Joining me to help us all understand why we procrastinate and how to stop doing it is Hayden Finch PhD. Hayden is a licensed clinical psychologist, behavior change expert, and author of the book The Psychology of Procrastination (https://amzn.to/41Ik0ua). If you tend to procrastinate you will want to hear what she says – either now or you can put it off and listen later! We all talk to ourselves inside our own heads but there are some real benefits to talking to yourself out loud even though other people may think you are a little weird. Listen and I will explain one of those important benefits. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2012/04/120417221613.htm PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS!!! FACTOR: Eat smart with Factor! Hey Friend, Thank you for downloading this episode! Its going to be a little bit different that what I normally do, but I think youll get a lot out of it. Like so many of us in recovery, I have felt really frustrated at times with my own negative repeating patterns. Procrastinating on self-care, spending too much time consuming information instead of acting on it, and at times, feeling really disappointed in myself. Its a really frustrating experience to recognize when Im feeling stuck and powerless to change, especially when I have tried just about every form of therapy, and read hundreds of books over the last 3 decades. But over the last couple of years, I have been practicing parts work, specifically polarized parts. An example of this is where I have an ambitious part of me that wants to get stuff done, but also a distractor part that causes me to get overwhelmed and feel paralyzed. It has been through this parts work that I have been able to resolve this polarization and resistance, to be more productive in the last 12 months than I have in YEARS. I have written a book, been consistent in the gym, my self-care practices, and created a new program that Ill share with you in a moment. In todays episode, I invited Cece Sykes to join me on the podcast to do a demonstration of this parts work. Cece has been working with the founder of IFS for the last 20 years and I consider her to be the leading expert on polarization. I believe in this work so much, that its the foundation of The Inner Compass Program, which opens for enrollment on 2/16. The focus of the course will be to use parts work to resolve internal resistance so that we can actually take action on the knowledge we have and prioritize our most important goals. If you have been searching for the missing piece, and feeling like you need something more, then Id like to invite you to join me in this new community. Just visit Innercompassprogram.com/waitlist and youll be the first one in line when enrollment opens. So without further delay, please enjoy this episode with Cece Sykes. =J

In this episode of The Resilient Writers Radio Show, host Rhonda Douglas sits down with Mia Botha, a seasoned writing coach and creator of popular writing challenges like "12 Stories in 12 Months" and "30 Days of Flash Fiction." The conversation dives into the common struggles writers face, particularly the ever-present hurdle of procrastination.Mia shares her unique journey from grappling with unfinished manuscripts to creating community-driven deadlines that transformed her productivity. She explains how procrastination can sneakily disguise itself as "productive" activities—like cleaning grout or taking yet another writing class. Recognizing this, Mia emphasizes the importance of balancing indulgence in these distractions with discipline and accountability. For her, outsourcing discipline through public deadlines and collaborative challenges has been a game-changer.The episode also explores the concept of "procraftination," where writers spend more time learning about writing than actually writing. While craft development is essential, Mia advises being mindful of when it shifts from helpful to avoidant behavior. For her, it's crucial to focus on writing more than procrastinating, even if the writing feels imperfect or experimental. In fact, she believes that magic often lies in the brave, "wonky" stories. This episode is packed with practical advice and a warm reminder that writing is a journey best traveled with intention, community, and a bit of self-compassion. Whether you're struggling with procrastination or looking for ways to reignite your creative spark, this discussion offers encouragement and actionable takeaways to help you build a resilient and joyful writing life.
