Can investing in our Oceans save our Planet? Have you ever heard of the Blue Economy? Do you know how much of the carbon we create or heat we create, gets absorbed by the ocean? Have you ever seen the “Colossal Squid”?- because our guest is on a lifelong mission to find it and film it in it's natural environment. The ocean covers 70% of the planet, but very little of our historic innovations in energy or technology comes from our Oceans. Matt Mulrennan, Director of Investments at the Sustainable Ocean Alliance and it's sister Fund, Seabird Ventures joins Rob to go deep into the emerging field of ocean investing and how sustainable solutions are shaping the blue economy alongside our fast growing “Green Economy.” Matt teaches a masterclass on some incredible data and history, of mammals, other ocean species, the importance of the ocean in our climate crisis, the massive value of the Ocean in our economy, and his own career arc from Expeditionary researcher to Ocean-Blue Economy investor. He tells a few stories of adventurous expeditions he's led in marine preservation across some of the earths most remote places, such as Antarctica, while educating us on the ocean's role in climate regulation and food production. He teaches us that the ocean's impact on our lives and our economies is massive, yet it's just beginning to be explored as an investment frontier. Discover the collaborative efforts driving this new economy and why Los Angeles, California may be its next hub. Episode Summary: In this episode, Heather “Lucky” Penney of the Mitchell Institute team chats with Colonel Jason Herring, commander of the 621st Contingency Response Wing about sustaining airpower at the edge. Whether responding to a humanitarian disaster or facilitating distributed air operations via the ACE construct, success comes down to the airmen facilitating expeditionary operations. This demands special training, a can-do attitude, and the ability to navigate the unexpected when handling functions like quick-turn maintenance, airfield management, passenger and cargo movement, on-site command and control, force protection, and whatever else is required to sustain air operations in austere locations. Airpower is a fundamentally agile, dynamic force. That requires a highly skilled, team-oriented set of capabilities.  Join us to learn more about contingency response airmen are at the heart of the effort. The Joint Readiness Training Center is pleased to present the forty-sixth episode to air on ‘The Crucible - The JRTC Experience.' Hosted by the Commander of Ops Group (COG), COL Matthew Hardman. Today's guest is a Foreign Exchange Officer serving as an Observer-Coach-Trainer Company Team Senior with Task Force 2 (Infantry Battalion), CPT Will Happel of the British Army. CPT Happel has since become a student Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and has since been promoted to the rank of Major.   In this episode we discuss how the British Ministry of Defense approached their expeditionary efforts during the Falklands War and how these same tenets would be applied to a multinational effort during large scale combat operations (LSCO).   The Falklands War, which took place in 1982, was viewed from the British perspective as a decisive conflict to reclaim the Falkland Islands from Argentine occupation. The UK considered the Argentine invasion of the islands a violation of sovereignty and responded with a military campaign. The British government, led by Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, sought to protect the rights of the islanders and reestablish British control. The eventual success of the British forces in retaking the Falklands bolstered national pride but also brought attention to geopolitical complexities in the South Atlantic.   Specifically, we discuss that when viewed through the lens of a multinational expeditionary operation during LSCO, reveals the collaborative efforts of the British-led task force. Nations like the United States provided intelligence support, while others offered political and logistical assistance. The conflict underscored the challenges and benefits of coordinating diverse military capabilities in a joint effort to achieve strategic objectives in a remote and contested theater. Additionally, the Falklands War highlighted the importance of interoperability and communication between allied forces, as well as the necessity of rapid deployment and sustained logistical support over long distances. The multinational nature of the operation demonstrated the strength of collective security efforts in addressing regional conflicts and upholding international norms of sovereignty and self-determination.   Additionally, we look at some of the case studies conducted on this conflict: “No Picnic: 3 Commando Brigade in the South Atlantic” by MG Julian Thompson; “Goose Green: The Decisive Battle of the Falklands War – by the British Troops Who Fought It” by Nigel Ely; “Not Mentioned in Despatches: The History and Mythology of the Battle of Goose Green” by Spencer Fitz-Gibbon.   Part of S12 “The JIIMs of JRTC: Working with Our Unified Action Partners” series.   For additional information and insights from this episode, please check-out our Instagram page @the_jrtc_crucible_podcast   Be sure to follow us on social media to keep up with the latest warfighting TTPs learned through the crucible that is the Joint Readiness Training Center.   Follow us by going to: https://linktr.ee/jrtc and then selecting your preferred podcast format.   Again, we'd like to thank our guests for participating. This is not the first podcast about Don't Worry Darling. But this is one of the few that discusses the film, and its transformation from a Black Mirror-esque spec script written by Dick Van Dyke's grandsons into a beautiful but poorly paced film with a confusing message. And somehow, between those two, there was a solid, compelling script. But it was paired with a directorial intention that was fundamentally opposed to the story, and the film began to unravel from there. Between 1914-1916, Portugal walked a delicate line. While actively engaged in an undeclared war with Germany in Africa, Portugal was not a combatant in Europe, nor did it officially declare neutrality. It stayed out of the war, but it provided support in a variety of ways to Britain – its historical ally. Britain hoped to maintain this arrangement for the duration of the war. In contrast, the Portuguese government was anxious to join the war. In March 1916, it got its way. By 1917, the Portuguese Expeditionary Corps (CEP) was fighting in France. In the decades after WWI, the dominant trend in scholarship was to view the CEP as incapable and even cowardly. More recent scholarship provides a more balanced picture of the CEP. To further explore Portugal and the CEP in WWI the World War I Podcast hosted Dr. Jesse Pyles, an expert on the CEP. History Nerds UnitedLet's make history fun again! The South Park episode Canada on Strike first aired in April 2008 - a “biting” “satire” released well after the Writers Strike had left the news cycle, and one of many media pieces that helped cement the legend that the entire strike had been about The Internet. But one of the many issues that the WGA had brought to the table was the very reason that the South Park team were so annoyed with the Guild in the first place - while the Guild were on strike, South Park and most of the animation industry were still working. Because animation writers are not covered by the Writers Guild. The WGA wanted jurisdiction over animation in their next contract. But that was an even harder ask than Reality TV, since animation writing was already covered by The Animation Guild, or IATSE Local 839. He also discusses his role in two civilian-military partnerships, how it better prepared him and his team to manage combat casualties, and the importance of maintaining these mil-civ medical relationships to maintain readiness.     Dr. Carmack also discusses his experience in a deployed theatre and his most memorable cases from that time. We ask him for tips for non-orthopedic providers in caring for patients with orthopedic injuries.  He tells us what he thinks are some of the biggest advancements in trauma orthopedic care over the past twenty years. Finally, we discuss his decision to join the Air Force Reserves, what that experience was like, and how he earned an MBA supported by the Reserves.     Col Carmack is a graduate of UC Berkeley for his undergraduate studies, followed by Columbia University for his Medical Degree, where he joined the Air Force through the HPSP program. He subsequently did a General Surgery Internship at Wilford Hall Medical Center. When most people think of a Marine, they first think about lethality, but survivability is another critical component to success on the battlefield. The last thing a Marine wants to be without while forward-deployed is medical equipment and supplies. Every Marine loves their doc. From bandaging wounds to saving lives, Corpsmen are essential. The Expeditionary Medical Systems Team within the Logistic Combat Element Systems Portfolio is critical to ensuring our medical professionals have the gear, tools and equipment needed in the field. They provide medical devices and supplies in support of deployed emergency and resuscitative healthcare, meeting or exceeding healthcare provider and warfighter requirements while providing unquestionable value. They are tasked with ensuring Marines have the appropriate equipment so the warfighter gets the medical attention they need as quickly as possible. Successful military organizations are always assessing and adapting; this includes methods of command and control. The joint task forces with constituent air, land, and maritime components currently used by the U.S. military have demonstrated benefits, but are all too often ad hoc structures that take too long to stand up and fight as a cohesive team. Tom Bruscino and Lou Yuengert are in the studio to talk about their recently released manuscript, The Future of the Joint Warfighting Headquarters: An Alternative Approach to the Joint Task Force, which they wrote with fellow authors Eric Bissonette, Kelvin Mote, Matthew Powell, Marc Sanborn and James Watts. Tom and Lou argue that now is the time to create standing, numbered, and regionally aligned joint warfighting headquarters— American Expeditionary Forces (AEFs)—around a command council and a staff organized into Joint centers and cells. They join host Darrell Driver to share the thought process behind the organizational structure and why the U.S. military must become a superior and sustainable joint force sooner than its adversaries.

"If you ABIDE in me, and my words ABIDE in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you…You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and BEAR FRUIT and that your fruit should ABIDE, SO THAT whatever you ask the Father in my name, He may give it to you." —John 15:7,16   The Fruit Jesus is talking about isn't the product of WORK but the RESULT of ABIDING. What's REAL and TRUE in Heaven requires a SYNC with Earth in order to have its transforming affect. Everything Jesus came to bring depends upon YOU being IN SYNC with Him in order to manifest. Heb. 1:3 ...He upholds the universe (All Things) by the WORD of His power.  GOD's power flows through His Word. Have you ever noticed that the the Bible has a “BUT GOD…” for every bad condition? "Saul hunted David (to kill him), BUT GOD didn't give David into his hands." —1Sam 13:24 In every situation involving Sin & Death there's ALWAYS a BUT GOD hovering just above it, waiting for you to SYNC with GOD's Word and access it. Being in SYNC with GOD requires a solid connection between 2 POINTS: Heaven and Earth.  The Heavenly Connection is You living with your Attention, Affection, and Expectation on Jesus. The Earthly Connection is Jesus' Words living in you through your Conscience & Behavior. REMEMBER: It was the WORD of GOD that Satan attacked in order to severe the connection between GOD and Man: Has GOD said? In every situation, GOD has a WORD, pregnant with His Power and Will, ready to go to work, just waiting for a Sower to Speak it and Follow it. K'dom Authority comes from being in Sync with Jesus His WORDS abiding in you so that you KNOW exactly what YOU HAVE within you.  In Acts 3:6 But Peter said, “I have no silver or gold, but WHAT I DO HAVE I GIVE YOU. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, stand up and walk!” Acts 3:6 was a SYNC! Peter didn't WORK a miracle, he was in SYNC with a Miracle. Stop coming to church expecting K'dom results on earth w/o SYNCING up with Jesus! Revival occurs when the SYNCING between Heaven & Earth is strong. Reformation occurs when the SYNCING between Heaven & Earth is Expeditionary.
