In her YouTube videos and on Instagram, Rachel explains and introduces some of the quirky aspects and cultural traditions of Germany and its residents to non-Germans in a very entertaining but also educating way. Rachel is originally from the UK but has been living in Cologne, Germany for some time now. But how did she even end up in Germany? And what is it really like to 'meet the Germans' as a Brit? All of those questions are going to be answered in this episode and, of course, we also wanted to know more about what ‘Meet the Germans' looks like behind the scenes and what they have in store for the future. We really enjoyed getting to share our experiences about moving from our home countries, adapting to new surroundings, and discovering some of the interesting differences between the US, the UK, and Germany and we hope you'll enjoy this episode as well.

Welcome to Conversations with Authors, where I – Alison Thompson, AKA The Proof Fairy – meet amazing authors and find out what inspired them to write and what advice they would offer other aspiring authors. My guest today is J.T. Scott. Jenny, AKA The Dragon Lady, is the author of the "Sammy Rambles" series of books about a boy and his dragon. She has also written the popular illustrated series "Bumper and Friends", following the adventures of garden creatures who help each other solve problems. In our conversation Jenny talks about how, rather than fear of the blank page, she struggles with story overload. She also outlines how she has expanded her profile by creating a range of merchandise related to her book characters, and she encourages authors to think big!More About J.T. Scott aka The Dragon Lady  J.T. Scott, Jenny, is the author of the "Sammy Rambles" series of books about a boy and his dragon. She has also written the popular illustrated series "Bumper and Friends" following the adventures of garden creatures who help each other solve problems. Inspired by childhood visits to National Trust houses and English Heritage castles, Jenny's imagination was captivated by these impressive buildings with their rich history. A love of reading and mythology spilled out into creating her own stories for Playmobile and Lego characters, writing the scenes down on scraps of paper so she would remember what happened when the toys had to be tidied away. Growing older, Jenny's stories became longer and more detailed, with complex characters and plots and gradually the idea of writing a whole book was planted in Jenny's mind. If other authors could write stories and create books then why couldn't she have a go? This, and Jenny's love for storytelling, form the backdrop for the Sammy Rambles books where Sammy and his friends attend the Dragamas School for Dragon Charming, set in the fictional Dragamas Castle, where they have to work together to solve problems and save the Dragon World from the enemy known only as the Shape. From pen and paper to self-published, there are five books in the Sammy Rambles series. The books are available from Amazon and Jenny is also taking on speaking engagements to talk about her journey and how other people can do the same. From writing the Sammy Rambles series, Jenny's adventure has grown from selling her books to family and friends, to having a stall at a craft fair, then a stall at a literary festival, then speaking at a 'Meet the Author' library event, then speaking at literary festivals right through to giving Interactive Dragon Talks in schools to thousands of children (Nursery, Foundation, Primary and Secondary) in the UK and abroad. Following on from the Dragon Talks is Dragonball Sport, the game Sammy and his friends play in the books, but has been adapted into an all-inclusive invasion game that can be played by children and adults of all ages and abilities, working together to score goals. Jenny's motivation is simple, having experienced several adversaries in life, she wants to 'give something back' and have a purpose, leaving a legacy of inspiring children in their imagination and their writing. The Sammy Rambles books are full of empowerment, finding inner strength, making lasting friendships and overcoming seemingly insurmountable problems.  Find out more at:  www.sammyrambles.com (for children and adults who like castles and dragons)  www.dragonball.uk.com (anti-bullying, inclusive game, anyone can play)  www.bumperandfriends.co.uk (illustrated series for children aged 0-5)  www.facebook.com/sammyrambles www.facebook.com/dbsportuk www.facebook.com/bumperandfriends

"THE FINEST ROCK SONGWRITER AFTER DYLAN AND THE BEST ELECTRIC GUITARIST SINCE HENDRIX." - LOS ANGELES TIMES Richard Thompson is an icon in the music industry, the consummate musician's musician, whom Rolling Stone has called one of the twenty greatest guitarists of all time. As an influential songwriter, his beloved compositions have been recorded by such artists as Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou Harris, and the Neville Brothers, and Time includes one of his own recordings on their All-Time 100 Songs list. In BEESWING: Losing My Way and Finding My Voice 1967-1975 (Publication Date: April 6, 2021; $27.95), written with Scott Timberg, this revered bard reflects on his musical beginnings amid the cultural turmoil of the 1960s and 70s. Like Patti Smith's Just Kids, BEESWING-which takes its title from one of Thompson's formative songs and includes rare photos from his personal collection-pushes beyond the confines of the typical celebrity memoir to explore the perils of youth and the creative process with profound introspection and unvarnished honesty-all against the backdrop of a society in transition. Thompson, the son of a London policeman with a drinking problem, rejected the proscribed path of university and at the age of eighteen embraced the musician's life. From the age of three, when he first spied his father's abandoned guitar in the attic, Thompson was enraptured by its sound. At eleven years old, he began formal lessons, but what might have been undiagnosed dyslexia created a disconnect between the notes on the page and the magical sound he could produce on the guitar. A shy kid with a stutter, he found his home among a group of musical friends and together they founded the era-defining band Fairport Convention, which revived the British folk tradition with a new sound. Along such up-and-coming bands as Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, Thompson would play a seminal role in introducing new English sounds into the music of the 70s. Thompson would leave the band at the height of its success and form a duo with his then-wife, Linda-a pairing that remains legendary in the annals of folk-rock. He also embraced Sufism to help process some of the turmoil of his inner and public lives, a belief system that would reshape not only his life but also his music. In BEESWING, Thompson, who still tours and performs extensively, integrates the spiritual with the temporal as he reassesses his formative years and the career that followed. "To play a song like 'Meet on the Ledge,' written fifty years ago on my bed in my tiny room in Brent, for reasons I cannot remember, with a worldview that was understandably naïve, is curious," he reflects. "I am and I am not the same person. I have to forgive the author of the song for being youthful, but I salute some of his insights into life, which seem hard-won." Candid and insightful-not unlike the exquisite lyrics to the titular song-BEESWING is a beautiful paean to an era and to a life dedicated to the raw power of music.

Get inspired by today's episode and face your emotions, fears, and demons. ABOUT THEMER ABOURAYAN About 10 years ago Themer was dealing with a severe anxiety disorder as a result of having had cancer and surviving. In his search for answers he started his path of spiritual and personal growth. This inner work never stopped and ran like a thread through his life since then. He decided to quit his job as an executive in a fast paced commercial environment of a tech scale-up after specialising in body awareness, intimacy, sexuality, conscious relating and polarity. Today Themer guides men and women to connect deeper to their masculine and feminine essence. Next to that Themer uses his past experience as a leader in business to help entrepreneurs to cultivate conscious and serving leadership in their start- and scale-ups. Or is M-O just a Roomba? - Breaking down the best scene in Big Hero 6. - Chris poorly explains the origins of Vision and Ultron. - Kyle hates R2-D2's Swiss army knife capabilities while propping IG-11's babysitting eliteness. - Debating the production and intention of 'Meet the Robinsons'.
