The episode teases what's next in the series, including a parody read of Fifty Shades of Earl Grey by Andrew Shaffer and a full wrap-up comparing the books to the films. Join the Besties for unfiltered reactions, spicy cover art commentary, and plenty of laughs—plus behind-the-scenes chaos from their Fable book club chats. Perfect for fans of romance, satire, and pop culture deep-dives.It's Fifty shades of May over here on the Besties and the Books podcast. Welcome back to our spring mini episode series all about the extremely popular yet widely discredited book series: Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James. We're officially concluding the original trilogy with book three, Fifty Shades Freed. Freed from what exactly, you might ask? And to that, we say… we have no idea.Start from the beginning??WATCH OUR 50 SHADES OF GREY PLAYLIST HERE | https://youtu.be/vykksEF9PJw?si=phSGimqOBOXXgfJaWe think that whether you find these books problematic or not, credit must be given where credit is due. The fact that these books have been stigmatized, criticized, and repeatedly knocked down is indicative (we think) of a larger societal problem: misogyny. Because as a society, it seems we just can't stand it when women are successful… or when they enjoy something. Whether it's objectively “good” or “profitable” or not. And don't miss next week's final mini episode in this series where we give our final thoughts, cover the parody book Fifty Shames of Earl Grey by Fanny Merkin, and discuss the movies! Send us a textGuess What? It's gonna be grey…It is grey! It's Fifty shades of May over here on the Besties and the Books podcast. Welcome to our spring mini episode series all about the extremely popular yet widely discredited book series: Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James. If you've been following along and watched our “Dark Romance Enters the Chat” episode then you know, we trace romance novels wayyy back to their origin so we can discuss what societal conditions helped to produce this canon of works mostly written by women, for women, with women's stories, pleasure, and lived experiences at the center. We examine what influence romance books have had on literature and the publishing world as a whole, and then specifically discuss what impact Fifty Shades had on the genre! It just happens to be a BIG bonus that Ashley and Liz have never read it before. So this is all new information to us.We think that whether you find these books problematic or not, credit must be given where credit is due. Episode 1 covers book 1: Fifty Shades of Grey by E. L. James. The first five-ish minutes are spoiler free with our one sentence rapid star and spice ratings. Then we jam pack this mini episode with an entire plot summary in five sentences (with a special classical surprise!), discuss what our faves and fail characters and plot points are, our feelings, notable quotes, red flags, problematic elements, and end with a fun piece of Fifty Shades trivia.Join our Virtual Book Club & Buddy Read on Fable! | https://fable.co/club/50-shades-of-grey-pod-read-with-bestiesandthebookclub-487898954653Don't be shy, subscribe! Send us a textToday Ashley and Liz are setting the stage for our mini episode series about the infamous 50 Shades of Grey trilogy which starts this Friday and continues on for five episodes, including the original three books, a surprise bonus book, and a wrap up episode covering the movies and all of our final thoughts! But today, buckle up for a spoiler free episode all about… ROMANCE NOVELS! The genre that changed the game for publishers… for readers… for writers… and for women. We've never read this series and want to examine it through a certain lens - what exactly did this series do for the genre as a whole? And who paved the way to make Fifty Shades of Grey a mainstream romance sensation? We take you wayyyyy back to the “first” romance novel, explore the OG pioneers of the genre, explain what defines a book as “romance” in the first place, and delve into how the content and themes have changed over time, influencing literature of ALL genres. We discuss the different evolutions and iterations of these books primarily written by women, for women, and how despite the success, popularity, and numbers to back it up… the romance genre is repeatedly labeled as “less than literature” or reduced to “chick lit.” We want to (NEED TO) talk about why.And don't worry, even though it's a little heavy, we still have a faves and fails and smash or pass, romance edition! Sam Taylor-Johnson is about to release Back to Black, her second music biopic following 2009's Nowhere Boy. So naturally Pop Screen decided to review... her EL James adaptation? Yeah, why not, it's got Rita Ora in it. Returning co-host Joe did a lot of Ritasearch for this podcast and was delighted to remember that she only has about a minute of screentime. Not that there's any shortage of other things to talk about when it comes to 50 Shades of Grey. Its status as a cultural phenomenon, its dubious sexual politics, its troubled production and long list of nearly-stars... all of this and more is covered in this dangerously erotic edition of Pop Screen. We also explain why Christian Grey's chauffeur is the secret hero of these movies, and reveal what the Frenchest film ever made is. It's not this one. Badwards and cookies and unicorns, oh my! This week, V and Emily head to Forks and dive off the cliff into the world of Twihards, Twank, and one very special gazebo as they look at the first Twilight superfic and, arguably, the one with the biggest impact on the fandom: Wide Awake by angstgoddess003. Learn about a Cassandra Clare-level wank with us and -- unlike the Cullen vamps -- burst into flames of rage at E.L. James' grossness. Were you a Twihard (or perhaps a Twimom)? 50 Shades of Grey: Strategies for Co-diagnosis, Early Treatment, and Patient Engagement of Periodontal DiseaseEpisode #614 with Angela HeathmanNo one suddenly has a seven-millimeter pocket. It happens gradually, often without patients knowing it! Once you identify and diagnose periodontal disease, you also need to communicate it to your patients. To help you follow through with that responsibility, Kirk Behrendt brings back Angela Heathman, one of ACT's amazing coaches, with strategies to facilitate co-diagnosis and getting them into the schedule. Everybody needs to be using the same language, using the same visuals, understanding that we're going to go through a co-diagnosis with the patient, doing intraoral photos. We have to really figure out how we're going to diagnose and talk to our patients before we start talking about treatment at all.” (5:19—5:45)“It's funny, sometimes I talk about the mouth, and then the patient. It's really easy to diagnose the mouth, and then it gets a little bit more complicated when the patient comes into it. And then, we have to think about, ‘How are we going to communicate? How are we going to explain? How are we going to diagnose?' and everything. But you're right, Kirk. First, we have to think about if this mouth walked in, what would the appropriate care be for this pocketing, this bone loss, everything that we're seeing? So, if we can get really clear on that using staging and grading and very objective criteria, then we go into the second part, working with the patient, a little bit easier if we're completely aligned on that part.” (6:20—7:02)“The first part is having everybody in the office figure out how to co-diagnose with their patients. When I say co-diagnose, I don't want to be telling the patient after I've...

Today, Hunter spoke with Jill Weinberg, Assistant Professor of Sociology at Tufts University, to discuss the difficulties and strategies of discussing BDSM and other alternative sexual practices in the court room. For many, 50 Shades of Grey is the only exposure to alternative sexual practices so how should lawyers prepare juries, judges, and even themselves for when their case revolves around one of these topics? From the complexities of consent in BDSM relationships to navigating polyamorous relationships, today's episode is all about the ways attorneys need to confront the biases people hold about alternative sexual practices. Amanda urges you to protect ya neck with wasp spray, but also swords, machetes and motion sensor lights. If the previous paragraph wasn't weird enough, this episode takes a weirder, XXX rated turn when these two, always late to a viral moment, discover passages from 50 Shades Of Grey. Karma Said, the author of Surviving Master Joshua-The BDSM Memoir of an Unfaithful Wife donned a mask and joined Mark and Nicole for a very provocative chat. Karma initially got her interest in kink from reading 50 Shades of Grey and was working for a religiously conservative publication when she was assigned to to a piece on religious figures in the New York BDSM scene, and ended up falling in love and being a collared slave to Master Joshua which opened her up to hardcore sexual desires and a world she never knew existed. She gradually lived a double life, one with her vanilla husband and children and the other as a sex slave to a polyamorous and pansexual man. This duality eventually drove her to the brink of madness and to the ultimately very surprising place where she is now with both men in her lives as she lives her life as a switch. Karma actually calls Mark a “sadist” during this show…which had nothing to do with the silly riding crop he brandished throughout the interview… You can order the book at Survivingmasterjoshua.com Karma can assist you in publishing your own erotic stories at Carnalculturepublishing.com Get some Dark Mark Show gear Go to www.teepublic.com/user/dms1 for shirts, mugs, phone/laptop covers, masks and more! Pornography has been the primary blame for many relationship problems. Fingers get pointed. Feelings get hurt. Doors get slammed. Psychologist and sex therapist David Ley, PhD believes pornography gets the blame because it is the “big, sexy, shiny object” that grabs the focus when a relationship is feeling bumpy. Ley says pornography is really just a symptom of other underlying issues that are not being discussed. In fact, he says pornography can be a great resource that can introduce novelty and new ideas to a couple's sexy life if it's viewed together. He and Ali also talk about why men seem to use it so much, the importance of communication and, hot tip, there is feminist porn out there. If you have questions or guest suggestions, Ali would love to hear from you. Call or text her at (323) 364-6356. Or email go-ask-ali-podcast-at-gmail.com. Worst Scene returns with a special double length Valentine's Day Episode to kick-off Erotic Thriller Month: we discuss the worst scene in 9 1/2 Weeks vs the best scene in 50 Shades of Grey. Are either of these films any good? Will Richard and George faint from embarrassment while discussing them? Who is sexier, young hot Mickey Rourke or bland bdsm businessman Jamie Dornan (Should have been named Boreman, am I right?)? Only one way to find out.
Jesse Shane Kempson was an entitled young man who believed his desire for violence was more important than anything else. When that desire led to the death of a young woman, he shrugged it off and moved on to the next woman the same day.
