The other mission for Gary was to meet Baymax, which took a couple of tries, but he got there in the end. The true highlight of the weekend, however, was running the half marathon side by side with his best friend while his wife cheered them on from the sidelines. For all of the promise of lifelike robots that can replace human workers on the assembly line, one-for-one, they aren't meeting that promise yet. Last year, Tesla caught flak for using human pilots to remote-control Optimus robots during a launch event. Ujjwal Kumar, group president of Teradyne Robotics, says automated humanoids are cool, but they're not terribly practical. Why force a robot to stand on two legs when wheels could get them across a shop floor faster and with greater stability? We're looking at the science of the microbots from Disney and Marvel's Big Hero 6 in our latest episode.“Are you satisfied with your care?”BaymaxConsidering how the entire mission statement of our show involves the intersection of science and story, and how we love the thought of getting younger people excited about STEM, it's something of a wonder that we didn't get to Disney's Big Hero 6 sooner. While technically a superhero story and loosely based on a Marvel property, Big Hero 6 is uniquely original and as wonderfully wholesome as it is action-packed. But best of all (for our purposes, at least), it's got a central concept and plot device that absolutely beg to be unpacked from every imaginable angle.No, sadly, it's not about what makes Baymax so adorably huggable. The piece we're focusing on for today's episode is microbots and the attendant neural transmitter which controls them. This is what kicks off virtually all the action in the film, the one with the most real world parallels, and the one that we feel is the best fodder for discussion…for now. News We were starting to get worried that the popular Star Wars Nite would not happen this year since Disney hadn't announced anything and May 4th is coming up quick! Well, last week they finally announced TWO Disneyland After Dark Nies coming to Disneyland. Disneyland After Dark: Throwback Nite will celebrate the 50's and 60's, with music and entertainment that will pay tribute to Disneyland's first 10 years. "Fantasy in the Sky" fireworks will be performed, classic dancing, treats from the early days of Disneyland, and more! For Star Wars Nite, "Star Wars: Celebrate the Nite" fireworks will perform, the March of the First Order returns, a Lightsaber instructional demonstration and more will be happening.
