In this episode Catherine Asta is joined by award-winning autism advocate, author and founder of "Stories About Autism", James Hunt, for a heartfelt conversation about raising autistic children as they move from childhood into adulthood. Drawing on nearly two decades of lived experience parenting his two non-speaking autistic sons, James reflects on how his understanding of autism, communication and fatherhood has evolved over time. Together they explore the hopes and uncertainties that many families face as autistic young people transition into adulthood. James shares the realities of preparing for life beyond school, balancing hope with understandable fears about future support, independence and long-term care, while explaining why staying present has become one of the most valuable lessons he has learned as a parent. The conversation shines a light on communication beyond spoken language, from body language and AAC as well as the realities of family life, including sleep deprivation, isolation, building community and the emotional impact of caring. They reflect on why finding other families who truly understand can make such a difference, and how peer support helps parents navigate both the challenges and the joy of raising autistic children. This is a hopeful conversation about finding acceptance, embracing a different path, celebrating the "inchstones" alongside the milestones and discovering that a meaningful life is often found in the moments you never expected. James reminds us that while the future feels scary and uncertain, there is also joy, connection and hope to be found here in the present. What's on at Autism Central?Subscribe to our FREE newsletterExplore the Autism Central website for FREE NHS-funded 1:1 coaching sessions, events and resources.Connect with JamesInstagramJame's Book: Love Needs No WordsConnect with Catherine Email: hellocatherineasta@gmail.comWebsite I Instagram I Art Books: Rediscovered and Still Living

Stuck inside those four walls? We're making our escape with Band On The Run, the 1973 record by Wings! After a tough Beatles breakup, a burnt out Paul McCartney was struggling to stay relevant in the music world. He started Wings alongside his wife Linda and guitarist Denny Laine, and after a few tough outings, Band On The Run proved to be their major breakthrough! Despite a tumultuous recording process in Lagos, Nigeria, hits like JET (!), Let Me Roll It, and Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five have become catalog staples. We're catching up on our personal Beatles history and learning about the foundation of Wings! We trace the band's Lagos trip through cholera outbreaks, broken equipment, and knifepoint robberies, but learn why Paul needed this record so badly. The Mixtaper relies on James' fear of "jelly babying" himself with another round of McCartney facts! We'll break down jailbreak ambience, investigate a holiday hostage, and drink a drink with Lily The Pink in Fact Or Spin. We might have No Words... but what's the use in worrying? How's your Scooby Doo impression? What would your last words be? Do you forget when Picasso was alive? Which of the sections of Band On The Run stands above the rest? Let us know your Wings takes in the comments and on socials!Keep Spinning at www.SpinItPod.com!Thanks for listening!0:00 Intro3:27 About Wings12:48 About Band On The Run25:58 Awards & Accolades26:50 Fact Or Spin28:09 Paul Insisted On A Jailbreak Ambience Check31:07 Paul Kidnapped The Easter Bunny35:22 Paul Guest Starred In A Comedy Production40:13 Paul Is Related To The Inventor Of The Woman's Tonic49:23 Album Art52:42 Band On The Run57:03 Jet1:00:31 Bluebird1:02:15 Mrs. Vandebilt1:06:38 Let Me Roll It1:08:29 Mamunia1:09:52 No Words1:11:04 Picasso's Last Words1:14:24 Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five1:17:29 Final Spin Hosted on Acast. Episode Summary In this episode, Diana Pastora Carson talks with Tiffany Hammond—autistic advocate, creator of Fidgets & Fries, and author of the #1 New York Times bestselling picture book A Day with No Words. Tiffany shares why she leads with stories instead of stats, how online “purity tests” can erase nuance, and what true access looks like when we presume competence and make room for multiple ways of communicating. Together, they explore disability identity, language, safety, and belonging—especially for nonspeaking autistic people and for families navigating systems that often punish difference. Tiffany leaves listeners with a clear reminder: everyone has a place. Trigger warning: sexual abuse For many survivors of child sexual abuse, the moment the truth comes out can almost be another form of trauma while for others it can be cathartic. In fact as Alison Mau knows very well, the needs of survivors are infinitely varied.Alison is an award-winning journalist with more than thirty years in major television, radio, and print media roles. A long-time advocate for gender equity, in the wake of the global #metoo movement, Alison created a ground breaking investigative journalism project at NZ's largest news platform in 2018. Over five years, the #MeTooNZ project published dozens of major investigations and supported hundreds of survivors to tell their stories, leading to widespread change in the way sexual harassment is reported by media. In many ways her experience helped her when it came to exploring and sharing her own personal experience with childhood sexual abuse. In 2023, Alison co-founded Tika, a tech-first access to justice charity designed to remove the barriers survivors experience when seeking justice and accountability. Her #1 bestselling memoir, No Words For This, was released in April 2025. In this episode she shares:- How her curiosity, optimism, and likely undiagnosed ADHD have shaped who she is- Why she wrote No Words for This and the lack of language around sexual harm- The decision to tell her family's story and why leaving it out felt dishonest- The unexpected impact of the book and how it helped survivors feel less alone- Her role leading Me Too NZ and changing how survivor stories are reported- What trauma-informed journalism looks like in practice- How a phone call from her sister brought buried childhood abuse into the open- The relief and complexity of discovering she was no longer alone- Why justice and healing are not one-size-fits-all for survivors- How she transformed anger, struggle, and grief into advocacy and systemic changeKey Quotes “I spent my whole life pushing it down just so I could survive, until one moment made it impossible to stay alone with it.” “Struggling isn't weakness, it's what happens when you're carrying something that was never meant to be carried alone.” “The hardest part wasn't what happened to me, but learning to believe it wasn't my fault.” More aboutFind out more about Tika here. I learned a lot in this conversation with Alison Mau about her life and journey and what has led to the setting up of Tika.  Curiousity guided the questions and we talk about a lot of things starting with her childhood, growing up in Melbourne, experiences at primary school that shaped her and led to a resilient attitude, the special bond she feels with horses and why that is so, becoming a journalist back in the analogue days before lots of computers or dictaphons, and her presenting on TV and how she ended up in New Zealand.  Then we focus in on the setting up of Tika which is a charity that empowers people to come forward to report past sexual harm and how it works, what it means and the future potential.   And an encouragment for us all: "Happiness for me is not in money, possessions or anything like that - it is, how can I be useful..." This week's co-host doesn't say a word, but his presence says everything. James sits down with his son Lucas, a non-verbal teenager with autism, for a special episode. With the help of Pirate Booty, duck noises, and an AAC device, Lucas shows listeners what communication looks like when it's completely authentic. Whether it's asking for water or no-selling a dad joke, nothing Lucas does is performative and that honesty has become one of James's greatest parenting lessons. You'll hear about real moments: a silly game that's only funny when Lucas says it is, how years of practice lead to a single successful request on a talker, and the deep frustration of strangers assuming they know your child better than you do. This is more than a podcast episode, it's a window into trust, growth, and fatherhood that doesn't need subtitles.See The Show Here on YouTube: https://youtu.be/jcTwR72r_k4Subscribe: https://youtube.com/@hiblogimdadIt's Here! This message from Romans 8 reminds us that even in our most silent seasons—when life feels dry, painful, or overwhelming—the Holy Spirit is praying for us. Pastor Jordan teaches that we are not abandoned when we run out of words. In fact, the Spirit intercedes with groanings too deep for words, carrying our needs to the Father when we don't know what to say.

We are excited to welcome Sarah back to discuss her book “No Words After I Love You.” This week's book is a sweet romance and we meet Meg and Charlie, the bestest and oldest of friends who bicker, laugh, and love throughout this story. When they learn they are going to lose Gina, Charlie's wife to cancer, they are overcome with grief and the weight of losing someone they love most. On her deathbed, Gina makes them each secretly promise that they will take care of each other and love each other after she passes. This story is about two people who are fighting battles of their own darkness and past losses; Charlie discovers Gina's indiscretion and Meg's absent mother is also dying, begging for her forgiveness. They both try to heal without spiraling out of control while also denying the love that they truly have for each other. Content warning: child sexual abuse material, child sexual assault, sexual assault, nonconsensual pornography, sexual violence, sexual paraphilia, and pedophilia.  Kim is a mother and nurse from Indiana. She reached out to the Broken Cycle Media team in hopes of sharing her story for the first time to bring awareness to a trajectory she never thought she would have had to traverse. Nearly a decade into her marriage, her whole life changed with a home raid by the FBI and several other criminal justice forces. The organizations would consequently find a large catalogue of child sexual abuse material in her then-husband's possession. However, at the start, Kim was not aware of all facets of his crimes. It would eventually take her years to learn everything, as well as to receive what closure the legal system offered. We are so grateful that Kim was willing to highlight all that continues to come next for her and her children, and that she is sharing her immense fortitude and strength with our audience today.
