Is laziness a lie? I think so. In fact, I would argue that laziness is often associated with a deeper issue, such as fear, anxiety, overwhelm, or lack of clarity. During our 52nd episode (yes, we've been podcasting for a year!), we are talking about how society uses the concept of laziness to shame people and push them toward constant productivity. I open up about my own personal journey with ADHD and the stigma associated with us being perceived as lazy, as well as the idea that self-worth tends to be tied to productivity and societal expectations. Addtionally, Todd and I discuss our experiences with the feeling of guilt when it comes to resting and needing intentional downtime. Through our conversation, we challenge you to take a closer look at your own relationship to productivity and self-worth, and hopefully give yourself the compassion you deserve. In this episode, we chat about: The concept of laziness Some of the underlying reasons people might be perceived as “lazy” The impact the American work ethic has on our idea of feeling the need to be productive all the time Struggles with guilt and productivity Ties between productivity and self-worth If this episode made you feel stoked, be sure to share it with a friend, leave a review, or DM me on Instagram at @stokedwithmeganmacphail and let me know your thoughts. We all poke fun at the people we know are living a false lifestyle, from the IG models, the "happy couples" or the super successful entreprenuers crushing it on social media... Meanwhile, we actually know some of these people in real life and know what the deal really is. Addtionally, if we are not the one's projecting a facade for the likes and ego boosts, there are some things I have come to realize that equally some people are just flat out afraid and have a lack of confidence to express their actual authenticity as a person on social media because they feel thier content doesn't have the value of the cliche pictures of food, stacks of money, or smiling faces hiding a unhealthy relationship. Let's see how far I take you down this rabbit hole with my own experiences, growth and lessons I am still learning along the way with boundaries between social media, authenticity and my real life. Occam's Razor is a principle, that in it's most basic form states, 'the simplest solution is usually the best.' This is the leading principle behind Occam's Vet Division, the new initiative led by Dr. Campbell Costello @dr_cozy. Through this program Dr. Cozy will provide veterinary students the opportunities to learn hands on veterinary skills in some of the most incredible regions of the world. Don't believe me, just listen to today's episode in which Dr. Cozy recounts his veterinary career and the many adventures it has brought him on.
