An English butcher murdered his wife the day his exorcism ended, the Son of Sam blamed his neighbor's dog, and a forked-tongued occultist who called himself Pazuzu buried bodies in his backyard — and every one of them swore it was the demon who did it. | #WDRadio May 10, 2026==========HOUR ONE: “The devil made me do it.” It's an excuse that has been used so often by so many that it has lost its meaning, and its effectiveness. So only a fool or a madman would commit a horrible act and then try to blame it on the devil or a demon… unless, of course, that person truly believes that is exactly what happened to them. (A Demon Made Me Do It) *** The little Norwegian village of Bærum Verk still stands as an old foundry settlement, and is an active place, both as a place to work, and as a place to live – and as a place to keep living even after you're dead. (The Most Haunted Village in Norway) *** There are more than a few stories from upright citizens around the world who claim to have seen tiny humans. I'm not talking about the diminutive human beings we used to classify as dwarves or midgets until we became more enlightened. I'm talking about short, maybe two-foot tall, perfectly proportioned people. (Big Stories About Little People)==========HOUR TWO: Like many desolate places, the Arctic has its share of ghost stories and haunted legends floating around the frigid, wild areas of its domain. It might be the frights rather than the cold that gives you goosebumps. (Ghostly Shivers of the Arctic Circle) *** You never know what might be lurking just out of sight – in the shadows, behind a door. I'll share a few true stories that might make you double-check the locks at night and check the closet before going to bed. (Never Trust The Dark) *** When you think of the Salem Witch Trials, you typically think of women being burned at the stake, innocently accused of witchcraft. There are two incorrect assumption about that mental picture. First, most of the accused were hung, and none have been truly verified to be burned alive. And second, sorcery and Satan worship were not seen to be bound by gender, and so either a man, woman, boy, or girl could be a witch. And one of those unfortunate men was Giles Corey – but his punishment went beyond the norm, and into the gruesome. (The Most Dreadful Execution of The Salem Witch Trials)==========SUDDEN DEATH OVERTIME: When John and Eva were married they told their relatives that they planned to honeymoon on the Atlantic coast, but John had another plan, and it would not be his last deception. But it would be the first act in what ended up being a mystery that has still gone unsolved to this day. (The Lawrenceburg Shanty-Boat Mystery) *** Weirdo family member James Pierce brings a true story that he calls, “It Came Through the Screen Door”. *** A 5-year-old boy having the time of his life at a carnival suddenly goes missing – and when found later there is no evidence whatsoever as to how he got where he was, who took him there, or what happened to him before he was found. (The Disturbing Case of Little Stephen McKerron) *** Weirdo family member Joy Cruz remembers something her mother told her as a child… and it quite possibly saved her soul. Never Trust a Handsome Soldier: Becky Holmes on the Past, Present and Future of Fraud

“Fraud makes up between 40 and 50 percent of all crime in the UK. Police resource dedicated to fraud: 1 percent. No country is giving fraud the attention it deserves.” — Becky Holmes Was Shakespeare a fraud? Possibly, says Becky Holmes, the Stratford-upon-Avon-based writer and the lady behind the X account @deathtospinach. She should know. Best known as the author of Keanu Reeves Is Not In Love With You, a cult hit among the romance fraud crowd, Holmes' latest book is The Future of Fraud. It's a short, sharp, witty history and anatomy of fraud, from the first recorded case in ancient Greece to today's AI-enabled deepfakes and romance scams. Holmes' most alarming statistic is that fraud accounts for between 40 and 50 percent of all crime in the United Kingdom, while only 1% of police resources are dedicated to investigating it. No wonder so few fraudsters are ever prosecuted. Holmes wants more Sherlocks. She wants fraud awareness on every school curriculum. And she wants our language to change. No, you didn't “fall for” a scam. Your money was stolen from you. As if you were mugged on the street or your home was broken into. The internet was bad enough for fraud. But AI, she warns, offers online criminals even more opportunity. It's not just Keanu Reeves who isn't in love with you. Never trust a handsome soldier, she says. Especially a virtual one. Five Takeaways •       The First Recorded Fraud: 300 BC, Greece: A Greek merchant took out an insurance policy on his boat, borrowed money, and planned to sink it and collect the proceeds. It didn't go according to plan. But the basic structure — a false representation designed to extract money or goods from another party — has not changed in 2,300 years. Every fraud since, from the South Sea Bubble to Bernie Madoff to AI-enabled romance scams, is a variation on the same theme: getting something from someone by not telling the truth. •       AI Has Erased All the Red Flags: Holmes used to advise romance fraud victims and potential victims: if he won't do a video call, that's suspicious. If the voice sounds wrong, that's suspicious. If he can't meet in person, that's suspicious. AI has rendered all of these warnings useless. You can now have a fully convincing video call, voice message, and real-time conversation with someone who doesn't exist. Deepfakes mean you can't even trust what your eyes tell you. The “red flags” that protected fraud victims for thirty years are gone. •       40 to 50 Percent of Crime, 1 Percent of Resource: In the United Kingdom, fraud accounts for between 40 and 50 percent of all recorded crime. Police resources dedicated to investigating fraud: 1 percent. Holmes cites a comparable US statistic: in one state, there were millions of people and ten police officers dedicated to cybercrime — and not one of them did it as their primary job. No country, Holmes argues, is giving fraud the attention it deserves. The gap between the scale of the problem and the resources devoted to it is not a funding issue. It is a political choice. •       You Didn't Lose Your Money. It Was Taken from You: Holmes has a crusade about language. The phrase “fell for a scam” implies the victim's credulity caused the loss. “Lost their money” implies carelessness. Both are wrong: in fraud, money is taken by a deliberate criminal act. Holmes wants the language changed because language shapes understanding, and understanding shapes policy. If fraud victims are seen as complicit in their own victimhood, society finds it easier to underfund investigation and under-prosecute offenders. Reclaiming the language is not symbolic. It is strategic. •       Fraud Awareness Should Be on Every School Curriculum: Holmes's most concrete prescription. Every person on the planet will encounter fraud at some point. Teaching children to recognise it should be as basic as teaching them to cross the road safely. It should be age-appropriate: fraud awareness around gaming sites and online chat when children first go online; around bank accounts and credit cards when they turn eighteen; around investment fraud at university level. The alternative — leaving it to parents, who are often themselves uneducated about fraud — is not good enough. The next generation of fraudsters is already on the gaming headsets. About the Guest Becky Holmes is the creator of the X account @deathtospinach, a fraud prevention speaker and writer, and the author of The Future of Fraud (Melville House, April 2026) and Keanu Reeves Is Not In Love With You: The Murky World of Online Romance Fraud. She lives in Stratford-upon-Avon. References: •       The Future of Fraud by Becky Holmes (Melville House, April 2026). •       Keanu Reeves Is Not In Love With You: The Murky World of Online Romance Fraud by Becky Holmes (Unbound, 2024). •       Episode 2890: Anja Shortland on Dark Screens — ransomware as the companion episode on the booming business of cybercrime. About Keen On America Nobody asks more awkward questions than the Anglo-American writer and filmmaker Andrew Keen. In Keen On America, Andrew brings his pointed Transatlantic wit to making sense of the United States — hosting daily interviews about the history and future of this now venerable Republic. With nearly 2,900 episodes since the show launched on TechCrunch in 2010, Keen On America is the most prolific intellectual interview show in the history of podcasting. WebsiteSubstackYouTubeApple PodcastsSpotify Chapters: (00:31) - Introduction: Was Shakespeare a fraud? This week, we are walking the beat with Robert Altman's The Long Goodbye (1973) and Shane Black's The Nice Guys (2016).These films represent two sides of the same tarnished coin. We look at Philip Marlowe as a relic of a moral code that simply does not apply to the world anymore. In The Long Goodbye, Marlowe is a ghost in his own life, stumbling through a cynical, hazy L.A. that has no room for his brand of loyalty. Contrast that with The Nice Guys, where our leads are trying to affect change against an overwhelming tide of corporate and political corruption, only to realize the deck is stacked against them.It is a double feature about the failure of the private eye archetype. Whether it is the nihilistic malaise of the 70s or the frantic comedy of a modern action-noir, both films suggest that the truth does not set you free, it just makes you tired.

1. DescriptionWhat Do You Do When Doubt Is Louder Than Faith? We've all been there — the moment when life doesn't go the way you prayed it would, and your doubts start drowning out your faith. In this message, we explore what it truly means to wrestle with God and still hold on.Drawing from the Old Testament prophet Habakkuk, we uncover a third option beyond either denying your faith or burying your questions: you can doubt and keep seeking God. Habakkuk's name literally means "to wrestle and to embrace" — and that tension is exactly what authentic faith looks like.In this message, you'll discover:Why doubt doesn't make you a bad Christian — it makes you humanHow honest, raw prayer can actually deepen your relationship with GodWhat Habakkuk's journey from wondering → waiting → trusting teaches us about holding on through the hardest seasonsWhy God would rather have you yell at Him than walk away from HimHow wrestling with God changes the way you walk — just ask JacobWhether you're in a hospital room, grieving a loss, questioning why God hasn't answered your prayers, or simply feeling like life's rounds are breaking you down — this message is for you.Doubt isn't the enemy of faith. What happens when an average guy suddenly inherits a global villain empire? Not metaphorically. Not “my boss is evil.”Actual secret lairs, corporate espionage, assassination attempts… and sentient cats who absolutely know more than they're telling.Today, I'm giving a spoiler-lite review of Starter Villain, a fast, hilarious, and surprisingly sharp novel from John Scalzi that blends spy-craft, corporate satire, and absurdist humor into one wildly entertaining package. In this episode, I cover:• Why the premise works far better than it has any right to• How Scalzi turns villainy into a workplace comedy• Why the cats are a genuine highlight (and mildly terrifying)• What kind of reader will love this book—and who might not• Why this was the perfect read right before the new Dresden Files novel droppedI was laughing out loud again and again, and this one instantly pushed more Scalzi books higher up my TBR.Have you read Starter Villain yet?Are you team “Never Trust the Cats”?Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Super powerful and inspiring post I found from Motivational Quotes (@motivational) “Never trust your fears; they don't know your strength.”  WOW… did I need to connect with this. My fears have had more of a driver's seat in my life than I care to admit and in driving “my bus”, when picking up my strengths at the different bus stops - many times they force my strengths to sit in the back of the bus or they never even stopped to pick them up!!  It's time for me to stop my bus (my life's journey) - not totally kick my fears off the bus because they are who I am in many ways. Maybe just have them sit in a seat behind me - buckled in… keep a few seats around them open for now so they don't influence “anyone else”. Life's journey is never dull when you take a look at yourself in the mirror and find the MANY things to keep working on to improve. So many things get better when we try to improve and be the best we can be!  Thanks for listening.  Please take a few moments to subscribe & share this with someone, also leave a 5 Star rating on Apple Podcasts and ITunes or other services where you find this show.  Find me on Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/coachtoexpectsuccess/   on Twitter / “X”:  @coachtosuccess   and on Instagram at:  @coachjohndaly  - My YouTube Channel is at: Coach John Daly.   Email me at: CoachJohnDalyPodcast@gmail.com     You can also head on over to https://www.coachtoexpectsuccess.com/ and get in touch with me there on my homepage along with checking out my Top Book list too.  Other things there on my site are being worked on too.  Please let me know that you are reaching out to me from my podcast.

AI Assisted Coding: Building Reliable Software with Unreliable AI Tools In this special episode, Lada Kesseler shares her journey from AI skeptic to pioneer in AI-assisted development. She explores the spectrum from careful, test-driven development to quick AI-driven experimentation, revealing practical patterns, anti-patterns, and the critical role of judgment in modern software engineering. From Skeptic to Pioneer: Lada's AI Coding Journey "I got a new skill for free!"   Lada's transformation began when she discovered Anthropic's Claude Projects. Despite being skeptical about AI tools throughout 2023, she found herself learning Angular frontend development with AI—a technology she had no prior experience with. This breakthrough moment revealed something profound: AI could serve as an extension of her existing development skills, enabling her to acquire new capabilities without the traditional learning curve. The journey evolved through WindSurf and Claude Code, each tool expanding her understanding of what's possible when developers collaborate with AI. Understanding Vibecoding vs. AI-Assisted Development "AI assisted coding requires judgment, and it's never been as important to exercise judgment as now."   Lada introduces the concept of "vibecoding" as one extreme on a new dimension in software development—the spectrum from careful, test-driven development to quick, AI-driven experimentation. The key insight isn't that one approach is superior, but that developers must exercise judgment about which approach fits their context. She warns against careless AI coding for production systems: "You just talk to a computer, you say, do this, do that. You don't really care about code... For some systems, that's fine. When the problem arises is when you put the stuff to production and you really care about your customers. Please, please don't do that." This wisdom highlights that with great power comes great responsibility—AI accelerates both good and bad practices. The Answer Injection Anti-Pattern When Working With AI "You're limiting yourself without knowing, you're limiting yourself just by how you formulate your questions. And it's so hard to detect."   One of Lada's most important discoveries is the "answer injection" anti-pattern—when developers unconsciously constrain AI's responses by how they frame their questions. She experienced this firsthand when she asked an AI about implementing a feature using a specific approach, only to realize later that she had prevented the AI from suggesting better alternatives. The solution? Learning to ask questions more openly and reformulating problems to avoid self-imposed limitations. As she puts it, "Learn to ask the right way. This is one of the powers this year that's been kind of super cool." This skill of question formulation has become as critical as any technical capability.   Answer injection is when we—sometimes, unknowingly—ask a leading question that also injects a possible answer. It's an anti-pattern because LLM's have access to far more information than we do. Lada's advice: "just ask for anything you need", the LLM might have a possible answer for you. Never Trust a Single LLM: Multi-Agent Collaboration "Never trust the output of a single LLM. When you ask it to develop a feature, and then you ask the same thing to look at that feature, understand the code, find the issues with it—it suddenly finds improvements."   Lada shares her experiments with swarm programming—using multiple AI instances that collaborate and cross-check each other's work. She created specialized agents (architect, developer, tester) and even built systems using AppleScript and Tmux to make different AI instances communicate with each other. This approach revealed a powerful pattern: AI reviewing AI often catches issues that a single instance would miss. The practical takeaway is simple but profound—always have one AI instance review another's work, treating AI output with the same healthy skepticism you'd apply to any code review. Code Quality Matters MORE with AI "This thing is a monkey, and if you put it in a good codebase, like any developer, it's gonna replicate what it sees. So it behaves much better in the better codebase, so refactor!"   Lada emphasizes that code quality becomes even more critical when working with AI. Her systems "work silently" and "don't make a lot of noise, because they don't break"—a result of maintaining high standards even when AI makes rapid development tempting. She uses a memorable metaphor: AI is like a monkey that replicates what it sees. Put it in a clean, well-structured codebase, and it produces clean code. Put it in a mess, and it amplifies that mess. This insight transforms refactoring from a nice-to-have into a strategic necessity—good architecture and clean code directly improve AI's ability to contribute effectively. Managing Complexity: The Open Question "If I just let it do things, it'll just run itself to the wall at crazy speeds, because it's really good at running. So I have to be there managing complexity for it."   One of the most honest insights Lada shares is the current limitation of AI: complexity management. While AI excels at implementing features quickly, it struggles to manage the growing complexity of systems over time. Lada finds herself acting as the complexity manager, making architectural decisions and keeping the system maintainable while AI handles implementation details. She poses a critical question for the future: "Can it manage complexity? Can we teach it to manage complexity? I don't know the answer to that." This honest assessment reminds us that fundamental software engineering skills—architecture, refactoring, testing—remain as vital as ever. Context is Everything: Highway vs. Parking Lot "You need to be attuned to the environment. You can go faster or slow, and sometimes going slow is bad, because if you're on a highway, you're gonna get hurt."   Lada introduces a powerful metaphor for choosing development speed: highway versus parking lot. When learning or experimenting with non-critical systems, you can go fast, don't worry about perfection, and leverage AI's speed fully. But when building production systems where reliability matters, different rules apply. The key is matching your development approach to the risk level and context. She emphasizes safety nets: "In one project, we used AI, and we didn't pay attention to the code, as it wasn't important, because at any point, we could actually step back and refactor. We were not unsafe." This perspective helps developers make better judgment calls about when to accelerate and when to slow down. The Era of Discovery: We've Only Just Begun "We haven't even touched the possibilities of what is there out there right now. We're in the era of gentleman scientists—newbies can make big discoveries right now, because nobody knows what AI really is capable of."   Perhaps most exciting is Lada's perspective on where we stand in the AI-assisted development journey: we're at the very beginning. Even the creators of these tools are figuring things out as they go. This creates unprecedented opportunities for practitioners at all levels to experiment, discover patterns, and share learnings with the community. Lada has documented her discoveries in an interactive patterns and anti-patterns website, a Calgary Software Crafters presentation, and her Substack blog—contributing to the collective knowledge base that's being built in real-time. Kirsh asks Tootles to feed and water the specimens while he is away. However, the Ocellus surprises him into accidentally locking himself in the same cage as two fly-like creatures, who kill him with acid and feed on his body. Slightly tries to lure Joe to the alien eggs, but he declines due to reassignment. Joe later visits a packing Arthur, who covertly deactivates Wendy’s tracking device and gives Joe a boat code to allow them to escape. Noticing Tootles is disconnected, he goes to the lab accompanied by Slightly, who opens the cage of the Xenomorph eggs and locks him in, allowing a facehugger to latch onto Arthur. Kirsh watches this through security cameras, but does not tell Kavalier. Slightly hides along with Arthur’s body in an air vent as the flies leave their cell. Rating Out of 5 Facehuggers Are Not a Good Severance Package Darryl: 3.5/5 Brian: 3.5/5 Episode 7 — “Emergence” Writer(s): Noah Hawley & Maria Melnik Director: Dana Gonzales Original Air Date: September 16, 2025 Summary: Smee discovers Slightly hiding an incapacitated Arthur, and the latter convinces him to help deliver Arthur to Morrow on the beach. Security re-secures the lab specimens. Wendy is disgusted by Kavalier’s attitude to Tootles’ death, and convinces Nibs to join her and Joe in escaping the island. On her way out, Wendy hacks the lab system, releasing the grown Xenomorph, which rampages and escapes into the forest. Kirsh finds Slightly and Smee carrying Arthur’s body, but helps them take a faster route to the beach. Outside, Arthur awakes after the facehugger dies. Shortly after, a newborn Xenomorph bursts from his chest and escapes. The hybrids take the corpse to the beach, where Morrow’s Yutani team meets them. Having failed to bring him the newborn, Morrow takes them captive. After Kirsh shows him the Ocellus caused the lab accident, Kavalier becomes fascinated with the creature’s intelligence, and wants to place it into a human host. Outside, Wendy, Joe, and Nibs are held at gunpoint by Yutani forces, but Wendy calls the Xenomorph which kills them. She comforts it, sparing them. Morrow’s team enter the facility, but they are taken captive by Kirsh, who has also captured the newborn Xenomorph. Wendy, Joe, and Nibs reach the boat, but they are intercepted by Neverland security. Nibs, frustrated, brutally kills a soldier, prompting Joe to incapacitate her. A shocked Wendy scolds Joe, as the Xenomorph watches in the distance. She insists Mossad didn’t plan the attack and her and Varon’s real mission is to investigate Haverford, who they believe is being manipulated by Shepherd. The two are attacked by a Farsi speaking tactical team, who Perash believes was sent by Shepherd, but escape after an intense gunfight. Whilst recovering in a safe house, Perash tells Edwards she never intended to kill him, even if her mission demanded it. Varon hacks the secure portal used by Haverford to communicate with Shepherd, tracing it to an apartment in Munich. She is attacked by the occupant, but eventually kills him and leaves with his laptop. Hastings tortures an operative captured from the convoy, who before dying reveals he is not Khalid Network but BND and the subsequent attackers were not affiliated with German intelligence. Hastings is distraught upon hearing this, unsuccessfully attempting to save the man. Edwards and Perash leave Zurich rendezvous with the team, but are attacked by a pair of assassins who kill the latter with a bomb. Edwards kills both men, and recovers a bracelet made by her daughter from Perash’s body before fleeing the scene. Saedi criticises Vahid’s enamoration with the West. Edwards reunites with the team in Stein. Hastings confirms the bearings they retrieved are also fakes. Haverford admits Shepherd played them to stop the BND’s own disruption operation. He states Vahid Rahimi, now in custody, is Shepherd, and ordered the team killed in a panic to cover his own tracks, fearing Saedi would discover his actions. Haverford forces Vahid to confirm the bearings exchange point with Cyrus, then executes him. Mossad tells Varon Haverford terminated Shepherd, but she analyses the laptop and sees further portal activity after Vahid’s execution. Hastings, disillusioned with their actions, fails to convince Edwards to walk away with him. Farooq, Landry and Edwards, impersonating KN couriers, meet Saedi at an airstrip. He tests the bearings, which are revealed to be genuine. Haverford is shown to be working with Cyrus, the real Shepherd. By having the bearings deal proceed, Cyrus can made Foreign Minister, replace hardliner Saedi and improve Iranian-Western relations as a CIA plant. Varon sends proof of this to the team, prompting them to attack Saedi’s plane before it departs, killing him and his Quds Force bodyguards and retrieving the bearings. Haverford reports the team as rogue traitors to the CIA Director to cover his own back. Reuniting with Varon, they prepare to prove Haverford’s treachery. When the Salem witch trials reached their peak of hysteria in 1692, 81-year-old Giles Corey became the only person in American history to receive a court-ordered execution by crushing, defiantly gasping "more weight" as stones were piled on his chest over two agonizing days. His gruesome death, carried out in a public pit where neighbors could watch, helped turn the tide against the witch trials as witnesses realized no true servant of Satan would endure such torture with such stubborn defiance.==========HOUR ONE: Like many desolate places, the Arctic has its share of ghost stories and haunted legends floating around the frigid, wild areas of its domain. (The Most Dreadful Execution of The Salem Witch Trials)==========HOUR TWO: “The devil made me do it.” It's an excuse that has been used so often by so many that it has lost its meaning, and its effectiveness. (Big Stories About Little People)==========SUDDEN DEATH OVERTIME: When John and Eva were married they told their relatives that they planned to honeymoon on the Atlantic coast, but John had another plan, and it would not be his last deception.
