That was the question Caleb Reese and others wanted asked, when they filed a lawsuit against the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives regarding 18 USC §§922(b)(1) and (c)(1), which prohibit the selling of handguns to 18-20 year old adults.

Australia plans to set a minimum age for children to access social media due to concerns about mental and physical health. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said his government would soon trial age verification technology before banning children from opening social media accounts later this year. He said the limit would likely be between the age of 14 and 16. The age for users to create accounts on most social media platforms is generally 13 years old. This includes Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp etc. Some platforms require the consent of parents/guardians. What the law says Children can be held legally liable for their actions. The law defines a child as “a person under the age of 18 years old”. Children aged 7+ can be sued in the name of their parent or legal guardian under South African law, while those aged 11–18 can be sued in their own name with the assistance of a parent or guardian and are deemed to be legally liable for their actions. They can be sued civilly or charged criminally.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Australia intends to set a minimum age limit for children to use social media, citing concerns about mental and physical health. The federal government says legislation enforcing a minimum age for social media use will be introduced by the end of the year. But some experts are raising concerns that this will not solve any problems, and is the wrong approach to the issue.
There's doubts a social media ban would prevent youth from accessing the online platforms. Australia is exploring a ban and has launched an authentication trial, but it's unknown how it will be enforced. Our Prime Minister has expressed interest in the idea. But Social media expert Katie Brown told Mike Hosking a ban wouldn't stop kids lying about their age, as generations have done before. She says young people will find a way to get on to the platforms they want to be on. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
