Dr. Elizabeth Campbell, a visiting scholar at Korea University's Research Institute of Korean Studies, joins the podcast to discuss all things North Korean film — from former leader Kim Jong Il's love of foreign cinema to what is arguably the country's most famous movie, “The Flower Girl.” She sheds light on the second Kim leader's reported involvement in the creation of domestic films, including the procurement of a train for a scene, and his frustration with North Korea's inability to produce Hollywood-type cinema. These films play an integral role in North Korean society, and Campbell discusses how the Kim dynasty has used them to portray itself to citizens and the rest of the world. Campbell holds a Ph.D. in North Korean studies from Korea University. Her work examines North Korea propaganda, media and culture, including personality cults and representations of North Koreans. "When you're in tune with [your period cycle] and you recognize what phase of the week, or the month you're in, it's a game changer. And I just encourage women to embrace that, in addition to choosing the best possible menstrual option that supports your body." —Arielle Loupos Tampons and pads aren't the only way—and for a lot of us, they're not even the best way. Most of what we use every month was designed decades ago, with little thought for comfort, health, or the planet. Age is just a number, especially when you're setting world records! At a wedding in Rowlett, Texas, instead of a little flower girl, they had 94-year-old Dottie Davis walking down the aisle.Dottie, who lives at a senior home, decided to go for the world record as the oldest flower girl. Decked out with a sash that read "Queen of Flowers," she scattered rose petals from her walker, which was all wrapped up in holly and berries for the winter theme. Watching Dottie do her thing, I couldn't help but think, that's exactly how I want to be at 94!

Hello everyone! John Cowsill is back, and this time he brought his beautiful wife Vicki. Most of you on Drum Channel should be familiar with John's career, he's been drumming almost as long as he's been walking. We're going to talk about his appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show at age eight years old with his family band The Cowsills, and their hit song, “The Rain The Park and Other Things” (which most people know as “The Flower Girl” song.) and also the inspiration for the popular TV show The Partridge Family and more. We speak to Vikki about her group The Bangles, featuring Debbi Peterson (Vicki's sister) on drums & vocals, Susanna Hoffs on guitar & vocals, and bassist Micki Steele (who before joining in 1983, was in The Runaways for a minute) replacing original and now current bassist Annette Zilinaskas. The female foursome went on to become one of the most popular bands of the eighties with hits, “Manic Monday,” Walk Like an Egyptian,” Eternal Flame,” and “Hazy Shade of Winter,” along with sold-out tours all over the world. Vicki's sister Debbi also joins us, via Zoom, to talk about her experience as the drummer/singer in the Bangles, getting started, a few of her influences, and more. Happy New Year! Let's enjoy!

Mike Birbiglia joins Chelsea this week in NYC to talk about paying it forward, the fragility of existence, and the worst years of all of our lives. Then: A newlywed is chomping at the bit to have kids, and wonders if she should take matters into her own hands. A girlfriend dreads the thought of giving up her fabulous Carrie Bradshaw apartment when she moves in with her new boyfriend. And a nasty divorce in the family leaves a soon-to-be bride without a flower girl. * Need some advice from Chelsea?
