Throughout her communications career, Candace has worked in the private (archer malmo, inc.) and public (FedEx) sector, for-profit and non-profit (Freedom Prep Charter Schools). In true Memphis spirit, she started my own full-service, boutique communications agency, DURING THE PANDEMIC! And she's seen much success, as a result of a great work ethic and referrals! Throughout her music career, Candy Fox has sung with some of the best in the business, from R&B and Soul to Blues to Gospel, to Hip Hop, including 8Ball & MJG, Al Kapone, Charrelle & Alexander O'Neal, Howard Hewett and Shalamar, Jennifer Holliday, Richard Smallwood, Kurt Carr, Chico DeBarge, The Legendary Barkays, and the list goes on. SMK is a genius producer whose widespread and often hidden influence across underground and mainstream rap and r&b has yet to be fully documented. He produced the early seminal singles of Al Kapone and Indo & Lil Blunt's full-length for Luke Records and through his contributions to Devante Swing's Da Bassment Crew massively influenced a nascent Timbaland. He's known to be the hidden author of Tupac's "Bring Da Pain" beat and in that cut you can hear his signature psychedelia - interwoven bells in visceral syncopation over a foundation of kinetic bass. It was Jazze Pha and his Bar-Kay father who brought him from West Palm Beach to Memphis where his style exploded after being introduced to the local "Get Buck" dance and sound at Studio G on Beale St. He went on to become probably the most adept re-appropriator of the Triggaman bells on record. This mix spans at least 30 years of his career and features Skinny Pimp, Al Kapone, Indo G & Lil Blunt, Brother Marquis and many more. As many tracks come from digi-only SMK releases that omit vocalist credits, I just omitted all the credits. (Some of those tracks themselves omit the vocalists, e.g. instrumentals from King JC tapes). As for me, I'm a music/video/visual/word collage artist based in Ann Arbor, MI. I first got into thug rap from hearing "Ha" by Juvenile on the radio in Atlanta, then was introduced to bounce music via taped Q93 broadcasts when, in high school, I was in a band with Matt Miller, author of "Bounce: Rap Music and Local Identity in New Orleans" and director of "Ya Heard Me". Years later I continued the pursuit of underground southern rap through the blog "Twankle & Glisten", posting mixes there as "DJ Kid Slizzard", the last of which eventually reached you (and, amazingly, made money to feed Memphis's hungry) - DJ Kid Slizzard here is the track listing - please spread the word.... Many of you may know my guest for episode 31 for his contributions with the Memphis music scene and the Shelby County school system. However, Peppa's story begins growing up in the South Memphis community. As a graduate of White Station High School he was introduced to the music business early on by DJ Paul. This relationship flourished into artist management and Peppa becoming the Vice President of Def Jam South and being very instrumental in Yo Gotti's career. Take a listen as Peppa gives the raw and uncut stories of Memphis artists breaking into the business and how he continuously reinvents himself within the industry. As of today, Peppa has found a bigger purpose which is philanthropy. He walks us through how he developed the billboard campaign for Shelby County Schools in addition to improving school registration through his community engagement projects. Although Peppa is heavily involved with the school system, his love for music has not wavered. En signant la BO de “Black Panther”, Kendrick Lamar prouve - s’il en avait encore besoin - qu’il mérite bien son statut de meilleur rappeur en vie à seulement 30 ans. Malgré les similitudes avec “Damn” par son univers, tout à la fois technologique, tribal et synthétique, “Black Panther : The Album” n’est pas un album de Kendrick. En se posant comme fil rouge autour duquel gravite un échantillon de la diaspora noire, avec des artistes canadien, sud africains, anglais ou californiens, Kendrick leur permet de rassembler toutes leurs cultures, leurs sons, leurs influences dans une couleur très TDE, dans un son à la fois glorieux, sombre et apocalyptique. En retrait sans être absent sur certains titres, le fantôme de Kendrick Lamar hante toute la BO, lui donne sa cohérence tout en permettant à chacun de s’exprimer. In addition to applied teaching duties, Dr. Millsap directs Jazz Band 3, the TAMUK Trumpet Ensemble, the Jazz Trumpet Ensemble, and performs with the Kingsville Brass Quintet. His performances span orchestral, chamber, and jazz/commercial idioms, including opportunities to perform in England, Germany, Mexico, and throughout the United States. He has performed with The Temptations, Mannheim Steamroller, Johnny Mathis, the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, Al Kapone, Jon Mayer, Rufus Reid, Kirk Whalum, Memphis Symphony Orchestra, Eroica Ensemble, Memphis Repertory Orchestra, Germantown Symphony Orchestra, Corinth Symphony Orchestra, Wichita Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfonica UANL, Jazz Orchestra of the Delta, Memphis Jazz Orchestra, as well as productions with Ballet Memphis. Theater credits include performances for nearly a dozen national touring company productions, including The Addams Family, Anything Goes, Chicago, Dreamgirls, High School Musical, South Pacific, and Young Frankenstein. He has performed at halftime for the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies, the Elvis Presley 35th Anniversary concert, and been seen on BET television. He has been frequently heard on the Memphis Public Radio WKNO Live Lunch series. He has been a featured soloist with the Corpus Christi Wind Symphony and the TAMUK Wind Symphony. A proponent of new music for trumpet, Dr. Millsap has commissioned and premiered several new works for trumpet: Shalom, Salaam, Peace… (2010) written for two trumpets and organ, Scatter the Darkness (2011) for trumpet and organ and A Whisper of Angels (2012) for trumpet quartet and narrator, 2x4: Domestic Tranquility (2013) for trumpet and flugelhorn duet, Cuando las ranas crien pelo (2014) for trumpet sextet. His recording of these compositions will be released on the album Scatter the Darkness: New Music of Stanley Friedman. He can be heard as principal trumpet with the Memphis Repertory Orchestra on their recordings Dvorak & Tchaikovsky and Voyagers, and as lead trumpet on the Southern Comfort Jazz Orchestra recording Voices. Dr. Millsap has written articles and reviews for the International Trumpet Guild Journal and serves as a music reviewer. He has published compositions and arrangements through Cimarron Music and Triplo Press. He has performed at the International Horn Symposium and presented at the Texas Music Educators Association and Tennessee Music Educators Association conventions. He is a member of the Artist Faculty for the National Trumpet Competition. Dr. Millsap holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Memphis, Master of Music degree from the University of North Texas, and Bachelor of Music degree from Wichita State University. Prior faculty appointments include the University of Memphis and Murray State University. He is a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors, Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Jazz Educators Association, and Pi Kappa Lamba.
