Degenerates Andy S and Brandon Bombay play chess, not checkers when they jump into 'Training Day.' Andy starts the pod off by telling the story of the time he "got wet" and overindulged on angel dust, which led to a psych ward visit — and much like Ethan Hawke in this movie, things only worsened from there. Then the guys dive in and try to make sense of this wildly popular film that was an amalgam of rap videos, low rent hood movies, and a dash of PSA-messaging that somehow earned Denzel Washington his first Best Actor win. It all makes for an entertaining episode cause "King Kong ain't go s*** on this pod!" 'Training Day' is a 2001 American crime thriller film directed by Antoine Fuqua. It stars Denzel Washington as Alonzo Harris and Ethan Hawke as Jake Hoyt, two LAPD narcotics officers.
This week we are building Alonzo Harris from the movie Training Day for D&D. Character Sheet
What do these two movies have in common? Where are they different? Join us for a drink and discussion about DEAD POETS SOCIETY (1989) and TRAINING DAY (2001). In honor of the expensive whiskey that Denzel's character drinks in a scene in Training Day, Jerome enjoys some Johnny Walker Blue. Chris went with a nice stout from New Holland Brewing called THE POET as a hat tip to DPS.In the first part of the podcast, the hosts engage in a thorough analysis of the film "Training Day." They praise Denzel Washington's exceptional performance, which earned him an Academy Award, and commend the film for its captivating storytelling and gripping action sequences...In spite of the studio snubbing Ethan Hawke AS THE LEAD! In the second part of this episode, they introduce the film "Dead Poets Society" and set the stage by describing the setting of Welton Academy, a prestigious college preparatory school. They highlight the clash between traditional values and the unconventional ideologies of John Keating, the English professor portrayed by Robin Williams. The hosts analyze the opening scene and discuss the school's motto and the expectations placed on the protagonist, Todd, who seeks acceptance within a group. They emphasize the significance of the discovery of the secret club, the Dead Poets Society, as a turning point in the story. This Week the boys are back! They are learning Low riders, Dr Dre's medical School and John looks stupid on a quiz about Sauces. It's all in a Training Day's Work! ---- Training Day is a 2001 American crime thriller film directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by David Ayer. It stars Denzel Washington as Alonzo Harris and Ethan Hawke as Jake Hoyt, two LAPD narcotics officers over a 24-hour period in the gang-ridden neighborhoods of Westlake, Echo Park and South Central Los Angeles. It also features Scott Glenn, Cliff Curtis, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Macy Gray in supporting roles. Training Day was released on October 5, 2001, by Warner Bros. Pictures. It received positive reviews from critics, who praised Washington and Hawke's performances but were divided on the screenplay. It was a commercial success, grossing $104 million worldwide against a production budget of $45 million. The film received numerous accolades and nominations, with Washington's performance earning him the Academy Award for Best Actor and Hawke being nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 74th Academy Awards. A television series based on the film, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, was announced in August 2015 and premiered February 2, 2017 on CBS, but was cancelled after one season.[4] A prequel about a young Alonzo Harris was announced in October 2019 as currently being in development by Warner Bros. Pictures
"I asked for a tape recorder when I was seven years old, and I got a camera instead. I'm like, this is a tape recorder...my grandmother gave it to me and said you can record with that too. At the time, my parents had gotten divorced, and my parents were from DC and then we moved to Cambridge. The camera was a way for me to stay connected. I take photographs, I only use the camera when I went to DC. I never took photographs in Cambridge. I take all of these photographs and for some reason, I get back and I process them. I would put them up on the wall and kind of paginate them and map out my summer or holiday or whatever it was. So I was like creating this stuff. I just kept on doing and as time went on, I started to take more photographs. It was just something that clicked with me and then I saw some stuff in the darkroom and I was, mind blown. Then by the time I was nine years old, I had a Pentax K 1000. I just understood, it was something about it. I just could see." said Séan Alonzo Harris.Séan currently lives in Maine but before venturing up north he attended the Art Institute of Boston, which now is the Lesley School of Art Design and he also had an incredible opportunity to intern with photographer John Hewitt."I ended up working with him and so my last semester in college... John was a little bit ruffled because I became part of his team. I went off, and I photo assist a lot. What I learned in grad school with photography, it all applied, and then put it into practice. So I did that for many years. I did that in New York City, to establish myself, and it took a really long time for me to establish myself, but I was always producing and creating work and, either personal projects, they call it commercial world, fine art that I've created over the years and got into a lot of shows. You know, grinding and just doing what I do waking up every morning, like, how can I attack this problem? You know, what's going on? Who can I get in front of? said Séan.To learn more about Séan Alonzo Harris and his journey behind the lens, listen to the episode or visit his website.

So I'm supposed to write a blog about our latest episode where we recast Galaxy Quest. But that's incredibly hard when I've got Chappelle's Show playing in the background. I could write about Tim Allen and Sigourney Weaver anchoring this meta sci-fi classic, but I'm too busy learning about the time Eddie Murphy's older brother kicked Rick James in the chest. Something, something, Enrico Colantoni absolutely owns this role and you can see the rest of the alien actors following his lead. Whatever, I'm catching up on Wayne Brady doing his best Alonzo Harris impression. Anyone who has been listening lately will appreciate us picking a Sam Rockwell movie where he's almost inconsequential, even though we try to cast him in everything. Although, there are some people whose lives are irrevocably changed by playing a tiny part in an insanely popular cult sci-fi classic. But don't take our word for it. Justin Long and Rainn Wilson make their cinematic debuts, which kind of feels right. What also feels right is the late, great Alan Rickman being a little too convincing as a classically trained actor who resents the fact that they never got the big drama part they were looking for, and ended up in sci-fi, repeating your nauseating catch phrase every day. This movie kicks ass and we try to do it some justice in the recast. Thanks for listening everyone! We appreciate all of you, and we want to hear from you! Find us on twitter @recastingpod, or email us at recastingpod@gmail.com. If you like the podcast, tell a friend. If you LIKE like the podcast, tell 5 friends. Actually, we don't need that qualifier. Sean Alonzo Harris is an editorial, commercial, and fine art photographer concentrating on narrative and environmental portraiture. Over the past 25 years his work has been included in a range of national publications, advertising campaigns and exhibitions. In these varied contexts Harris’s work focuses on human experience and identity, and examines how individuals visualize themselves and how they are portrayed. His images bear witness to often invisible or overlooked members of our communities, and create portraits that provide a counterimage and narrative of self worth and personal agency. Harris has also received critical acclaim for his fine art work. Recently, he was awarded a Kindling Fund grant from Space Gallery and the Warhol Foundation for his project, Visual Tensions. This collaborative photographic project and community dialog pairs people of color with members of law enforcement. Harris will create photographic portraits as a means to confront and question cultural and racial assumptions, stereotypes and fears. He has also been selected for the 2018 Portland Museum of Art Biennial. https://www.themainemag.com/radio/radio-guests/sean-alonzo-harris/
