This week I chat with Trek Leader and Human Performance Specialist Sami Dunk, about the changes in her mindset and body when preparing for Kokoda now that she has had children and the hormonal changes that come with that. Plenty in this episode for the ladies and even for the men out there. I trust you'll enjoy this one. :-) ADVENTURE PROFESSIONALS WEBSITE GET KOKODA FITSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this episode, we sit down with Glenn Azar the founder of The Building Better Humans project, Project 180 gym and Adventure Professionals. Having experienced the amazing resilience of humans when on Operational and Non-Operational Deployments around the world Glenn started to immerse himself in Personal Development and the study of Human Behaviour. In 2010, immediately after discharging from the military he commenced his own adventure company, Adventure Professionals, where he leads people on adventure trekking programs all around the world to destinations in PNG, Africa, Russia, Nepal, Canada, South America and Australia. In 2016 he commenced a podcast titled The Building Better Humans Project which now surpasses 500,000 downloads per year and growing. Glenn operates as a personal mentor and coach to professional athletes, corporate CFO's and CEO's, and everyday people wanting to make changes and improvements in their lives. His philosophy is simple, if you're willing to do the work he can assist you in getting the most out of yourself. If you're not willing to do the work then no one can help you. You're the magic ingredient in change and success. In 2016 his daughter Alyssa Azar became the youngest Australian to summit Mt Everest at the age of 19yo. She made the summit again in 2018 at 21yo making her the youngest woman in the world to summit from both the north and south routes. Understanding what drives high performance and how you apply these tools in any area were very clear to Glenn during the years it took for Alyssa to prepare for these amazing achievements. Glenn is a qualified Registered Nurse, Life Coach and is currently undertaking a Psychology Degree. He is committed to a lifetime of learning and growing so he can be the change other require of him. All members of our team are selected and mentored by Glenn to ensure they maintain their own standards and the standards required of the Building Better Humans Project so that we're living and breathing examples of what we teach others to do. Mountaineer Alyssa Azar conquered Kokoda at 8 years old, the Aussie ten peaks at 10 and Kilimanjaro at 14; and as if that wasn’t enough, at 19 she became the youngest ever female Australian to summit Everest. But though Alyssa was a skilled lifelong climber and physically fit, Everest threw up a huge challenge for her. While climbing it, she got trapped in an avalanche and found herself having to call on techniques she had learned to build her mental and physical strength, in order to save her own life. Hosts Action Alexa and Jenna Louise sit down with Alyssa to find out what she did to survive this ordeal, how she trained to climb the world's highest mountain and what skills we can adopt in our own lives in order to stay calm in the worst situations.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Hello beautiful people At the age of 8 Alyssa was the youngest person to complete the grueling Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea, at the age of 10 she trekked to Everest Base Camp in Nepal, at the age of 14 she climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and at the age of 19 she climbed to the top of Mount Everest, which awarded her with a record for being the youngest Australian to complete such a feat. Personally though, what I found the most fascinating about Alyssa was that in all her success, there was a point where it became less about the hype that came with breaking records and more of an intentional journey of self-exploration. At the age of 21, Alyssa became the youngest woman in the world to climb both the North and South Routes of Mount Everest, but amongst all the media available on Alyssa, this world-record breaking achievement was noticeably less spoken about. Naturally I asked the question why, and it is in this podcast that Alyssa shares openly about that turning point where she felt the need to connect with herself again and what she loved doing, outside of the attention she normally received. She speaks about the importance of being clear on your identity through separating what you do from who you are, and she shares vulnerably and courageously her experience with depression that was primarily due to her sense of directionless post-Everest and the pressure of people asking, “What's next?” * Note: I had a little challenge with the audio; please bare with it as I tried my best with the new skills I am developing. In episode 27, I talk with Alyssa Azar ,the youngest Australian to climb Everest. We talk about everything from what got her started and involved in climbing, her journey from not making it twice, to finally summiting, the training involved and the mindset work that goes into it. We talk about why you should expect more of yourself, how we need to just take one step at a time and keep moving forward. We all struggle with doubting ourselves and wondering whether we can actually do the things we want to do, but in the end, whatever we believe we are capable of, we can do. We speak about the 'perfect performance line' and when we get taken away from it, just making our way back to that line by 1% each day until we get back to it. Some amazing stories, some amazing learning and some great tools for you to take away. Find Alyssa on instagram and facebook.

I decided to make Monday something to help combat any mental health issues as there are some real risks in this area whilst everyone's in isolation due to COVID-19. I always enjoy having Alyssa on the show because's wise beyond her years and there's so much good in these chats. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Today I sat down with my daughter and avid adventurer Alyssa Azar and we chatted about fitness from her first Kokoda Track crossing at 8 years old right through to climbing Mt Everest. We really tried to drill down on the fitness required for Kokoda whether you're an active exerciser or office bound and have made the decision to trek Kokoda in the near future. I think there's a lot of value in this episode for everyone. https://www.adventureprofessionals.com.au/kokoda-campaign/ See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Tim and Ben use this RV to cast their minds back over their recent chats with Richard Baker, Maxine Brown (for the ‘Returned and Services League' (RSL)) and adventurer Alyssa Azar. We then talk about Ben and Tim's Everests. And that includes discussing poignant moments on SAS Selection and looking death in the face while climbing Mawson's Peak, an active volcano, on the sub antarctic Heard Island. Shamelessly riding on the coat-tails of Richard's much better podcast The Last Voyage of the Pong Su, the boys talk about what a pleasure it was to speak with him and to share their experiences, which is one small component of Richard's cracking and far-reaching exploration into the incident. On ‘shades of grey' and what is a ‘bad person' and promoting reductionist views which means polarising views and opinions. Ben then struggles to explain what ‘RSL' stands for as they recount their discussion on mateship in an interview with the RSL's Maxine Brown. When they eventually work it out, they talk a little bit more about the importance of mateship and maybe even displaying a little bit of vulnerability from time to time, and provide an insight into their stint as cover models for the RSL magazine. They finish the episode by talking about Everests – both literal and metaphorical. Literal, in their discussion about the amazing chat with super-inspirational Australian mountaineer Alyssa Azar; and metaphorical, through describing their own individual ‘Everests'. We hope you enjoy this RV and it in some small way, that it helps you go ‘a little further' in filling your own Unforgiving60s. www.unforgiving60.com Get in touch with us at debrief@unforgiving60.com Music from the original SAS Band, The Externals..... check them out on Spotify!!

When Alyssa Azar was eight-years-old, she decided she wanted to climb Mt Everest. She trained for years and years, through wind, cold, rain, and snow. And finally, at 19-years-old, she was ready. She faced an avalanche, an earthquake, and the world's most dangerous place — the "death zone". But still, Alyssa didn't let anything stop her in her quest to be on top of the world. This week I sat down with my daughter Alyssa Azar who has trekked across the Kokoda Track eight times including as an 8yo back in 2005, a journey which eventually lead to her climbing Mt Everest twice being the youngest Australian to successfully stand on the summit and the youngest woman to ever do so from both the North and South sides of the mountain. Now Alyssa is putting her years of adventure experience and expertise into preparing training programs to help people get fit for adventure. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Alyssa made her first successful summit of Everest when she was just 19 years old, becoming the youngest Australian to do so. Then she decided to climb it again. I’m not sure what you were doing when you were 8 years old, but I’d guess that it doesn’t quite come close to what today’s guest did at this age. Alyssa Azar followed in her father’s trekking footsteps and completed the Kokoda Track at the age of 8 - kick-starting a love of trekking, climbing, and smashing big goals. In 2016 Alyssa became the youngest Australian to summit Mt Everest at the age of 19, and then earlier this year, 2018 summited Everest again from the north side. Alyssa describes the experience of walking that final 700metres at Everest, and why even when faced with a gaol in sight that you can never take success for granted - and therefore how important it is to be fully present to the moment you are in. Alyssa’s is a great story of courage, endurance, never giving up even when facing remarkable challenges. She will talk about the mindset to achieve great things and why when you achieve someone it’s important to be setting the next goal. This is a determined young woman who knows how to set an audacious goal and has the determination to do whatever it takes to achieve it. Enjoy this insightful conversation with Alyssa Azar. There are a lot of strings to the bow of what makes Alyssa unique and such a high achiever. Just over two months ago she successfully summitted Mt Everest from Tibet making it her second time to stand on the summit of Mt Everest. She has made the summit at 19yo and 21yo. Alyssa has successfully climbed peaks in Russia, Africa, South America, Nepal and Australia. She has completed the Kokoda Track eight times. But what makes here tick? What's her training program like? What side of Mt Everest is harder? How does she feel being an inspiration to younger generations? We tackle all of these questions and more in a great conversation for Episode 93 of the Building Better Humans Project podcast. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
This week we welcome back Alyssa Azar to the show. Alyssa began trekking in 2005 with her first challenge, crossing the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea. Alyssa then trekked in Nepal, completed treks such as Everest Base Camp and Kokoda numerous times, Mt Kosciuszko in Australia, the Aussie 10 (the 10 highest peaks in Australia), Mt Kilimanjaro. After completing Mt Kilimanjaro in 2011, Alyssa began climbing by doing a mountaineering course in NZ. Since then she has climbed in South America and Nepal on various expeditions to different peaks including: Ama Dablam, Aconcagua, Manaslu and two Everest Expeditions. Alyssa was on Everest both in 2014 and 2015 when the Avalanche and the Nepal Earthquake occurred and closed the mountain. In 2016 Alyssa returned for a third time and on the 21st May 2016 became the Youngest Australian to Summit Mount Everest. She has since gone on and climbed again on Aconcagua as well as a summit of the highest mountain in Europe – Mt Elbrus in Russia. Alyssa is currently preparing for a Northside Everest Expedition climbing from Tibet. She is also now leading climbs on many of the Seven Summits in 2018 and 2019. Questions we ask in this episode: What drives you to want to achieve goals that appear to be so hard? Tell us about your training routine leading up to a big climb. What strategies to do you take to recover from a huge climb? https://shop.180nutrition.com.au/ Stu This week, I'm excited to welcome Alyssa Azar. Alyssa was the youngest person to cross the Kokoda track as an 8 year old in 2005. And the youngest Australian to summit Mount Everest, of which she has now climbed twice. Unbelievable. In this interview, we discuss her diet, training and mindset used to get her to the top of the world and how she approaches goals of such a magnitude. I hope you enjoy this chat as much as I did as she's a real inspiration who is truly following her dream. Over to Alyssa. 01:20 Hey guys, this is Stu from 180 Nutrition, and I am delighted to welcome Alyssa Azar to the show. Good morning Alyssa, how are you? Alyssa 01:27 Good morning. I'm good. Stu 01:29 Thank you so much for joining us Alyssa. And I'd love it if you could just tell our listeners that may not be familiar with who you are, a little bit about yourself please. Alyssa 01:41 Yeah, so my name's Alyssa Azar. I'm 21 from Brisbane, but essentially I'm a mountaineer. And so just recently summited Everest for the second time. So originally climbed it from the south side and just recently got back from climbing it from the north side in Tibet. But really, how I got started into that was quite young. 02:02 I got into trekking, and that kind of happened just being exposed to it through my dad. So pretty much since I was four or five years old, he was guiding people across the Kokoda track. That's what he does for a living. And so I was kind of exposed to this world of adventure a little bit. But was always interested in the mountains and so I think I was always gonna sort of end up there at some point. But yeah, most of my weekends were out bush walking and I just loved it. And yeah, kind of harassed my dad to take me to Kokoda. I was obsessed with it. And yeah, he did. So I was eight years old when I first crossed the Kokoda track. And then from there, every few years we'd try and do another trip somewhere. And it was then, Everest base camp, Kilimanjaro, and it was often Kilimanjaro that I realized Everest had always been this thing in the back of my mind. And I'm gonna go for it and set the goal and then I knew, it's gonna be a few years away, but yeah started preparing for it and that's essentially been my life I guess. For the last few years now. FOCUS. ADAPT. CONTROL This week I sit down with Alyssa Azar. Alyssa’s bio is too long to list… she has achieved more in her 21 years than many will in a lifetime and is the youngest Australian to ever summit Mt Everest. I asked Alyssa on the show because of her relentless attitude towards her goals, the unique light she provides to ‘acting with purpose and passion’, as well as all the amazing stories she has experienced to tell and that you deserve to hear. Alyssa’s essay question was: “I was recently asked, and I’m glad I’m sitting with you today because you are likely to have a better perspective on this than I, in terms of adventures or challenges that cause us to flirt with the real likelihood of death… Why?” And we discussed topics such as – why go again? the joy in aligning your journey with your achievement, being inwardly motivated and choosing the hard option. This week I'm introducing Alyssa's latest project, her very own podcast which is coming soon called Girls Can Do Scary Things Too. I take you through the process of climbing Mount Everest in this podcast I explain how Alyssa's podcast came about and what the aim is. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Alyssa Azar is the youngest Australian to climb Mt Everest which she did at the age of 19. But her journey hasn’t been easy; she only summited Everest on her 3rd attempt after the first two attempts ended in tragic circumstances and she (and her parents) have both been subject to heavy criticism including from internet trolls who didn’t hold back in expressing their opinions about how inappropriate it was someone so young to attempt what she’s done. In this conversation, we talk about her experience during her 3 expeditions to Everest, how she manages her fear and self-doubt, how she handles criticism, the perfect performance line and goal setting.
This week's midweek motivation was taken from insights of my time listening to Alyssa speak at different events since returning from Mount Everest. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Episode 19 - Scott Evennett - Challenge Accepted This week I am interviewing former Special Forces soldier Scott Evennett. Not only is Scott a former Special Forces soldier, he's also one of the key secret weapons that Alyssa Azar used to become the youngest Australian to Summit Mount Everest. Scott has tailored Alyssa's physical and mental training since January this year through to the successful summit of Mount Everest and continues to hone her physical and mental strength as she aims towards the next of the Seven Summit Challenges which she departs for in December this yea. Scott now runs a specialised mentoring and physical training program for every day people to become the best version of themselves. His favourite saying " Challenge Accepted" epitomises his mindset to all challenges in life, physical or mental. Scott's personal history is a tribute to the significance he accords the mind/body connect. his early childhood years were spent as a gymnast. At the age of sixteen, he moved from Sydney to pursue a career in professional football. While in the UK, Scott played for Port Talbot (Welsh Premier League) and Swansea City Juniors (English Second Division). While the disciplines are ostensibly worlds apart, they both required the same incredible mental focus and physical endurance. Upon relocating to Australia, Scott joined the military forces. For five of the eight years he spent serving in the military, Scott earned a position within the Special Operations Command. He developed extensive knowledge of Special Operations in Counter Terrorism and Counter Insurgency across Australia and the Middle East. After three tours of Afghanistan, Scott turned the mastery he acquired during his military career toward mentoring programs reaching out globally. Scotty is now an integral business partner in Commando Tough, Evennett and ZERO79. http://www.evennett.com.au/ See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
In Episode Two of the Building Better Humans Project Podcast I interviewed my daughter Alyssa Azar who was preparing to fly to Nepal and attempt the summit of Mount Everest. Well, she did it. Now we have an interview with Alyssa to ask about that experience of standing on top of the world, the hardest parts of the climb and the plead up, her training program and why she thinks other people should take on adventure challenges. There's some great quotes in here about being a woman and taking on the world. We did this interview with no prep, no pre-questions, just rolled into it. I am very happy with way it flowed and the messages that came out for people listening. Enjoy the podcast. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Episode 09 - Phil DiBella - King of Coffee & Culture This week I had the pleasure of interviewing Phil DiBella - the mastermind behind the DiBella Coffee brand. Phil is an amazing building of culture in the workplace and within teams. He sits on numerous boards, helps out many charities and has sponsored me daughter Alyssa Azar for years so we have a lot of connection points. On top of that he has passion for the sport of boxing like myself. I chose Phil because he is an amazing communicator and really gets his points across in a way that you can helped but be inspired. Bio: He’s one of BRW’s most celebrated entrepreneurs, a philanthropist and one of Australia’s most passionate businessmen. His love affair with coffee and natural people skills have revolutionised the coffee industry. His name is Phillip Di Bella, and he’s the face behind the ever growing, always changing Di Bella Coffee. Phillip’s lifelong passion for coffee began when he was a small boy in his family’s Brisbane home. A budding barista from a young age, his skills led to a career at Brisbane’s landmark Cosmopolitan Café. He backed his flair for business with a Bachelor of Commerce degree at Griffith University to ensure the best was still to come for this promising entrepreneur. In 2002, Phillip launched Di Bella Coffee. A keen observer of people, Phillip was dissatisfied with the level of customer service in the industry and was convinced he had something better to offer. He leased a roaster to craft the first of his exceptional signature blends that have become integral to the global brand Di Bella Coffee is today. He worked hard to promote and share his innovation and vision, initially going door to door to attract clients.. His passion and dedication saw him set up his HQ in Bowen Hills – a new landmark for coffee lovers and a key player in the supply of wholesale coffee to cafes. Alyssa is Australia's most experienced young adventurer having crossed the Kokoda Track at just 8 years old, the youngest person to do so at that time. She has climbed in South America, Africa, numerous times in Nepal and has made two attempts to climb Mt Everest in 2014 and 2015 when tragedy struck. She is heading back in 2016.
