Do you sometimes feel overwhelmed by stress, from both inside and outside the private practice? How can you distinguish between fear, stress, and what is essential to do? Chanel, my guest today, answers that question to remember and use the power of your “why”. Why did you start your private practice? Why are you working in counselling and therapy? These answers can help give you the fortitude to keep going. In today's episode, Chanel and I discuss the importance of “why” and how you can use it to ride the wave of private practice, reduce your stress, and work more closely and effectively with your values and passions. MEET CHANEL Chanel Wainscott is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) offering in-person and virtual therapy to clients in the perinatal period, helping them navigate the complexities of caregiving, self-identity, and mental health. She is passionate about guiding clients toward resilience against shame, identifying and communicating their needs to their support networks, and supporting the mental health journeys of postpartum fathers. With a focus on authentic self-expression and building strong support systems, Chanel empowers clients to navigate their unique stories. Learn more about Chanel on her practice website, Psychology Today, Open Path Collective, and LinkedIn or Instagram profiles. In this episode: Why Chanel became a psychotherapist When Chanel considered private practice Developing and launching her private practice Remembering your “why” Chanel's advice to listeners Why Chanel became a psychotherapist Due to her interest in high school, and encouragement from her doctor who knew her well, Chanel completed her Psychology Degree in undergrad - even though her school guidance counsellor told her that her marks were too low initially! Chanel completed her placement at a community health center and became a mental health counsellor. When Chanel considered private practice In 2019, Chanel graduated and was placed in a crisis worker position within her agency. However, her private practice was placed on the back burner since Chanel went on maternity leave. It wasn't until her second maternity leave in 2022, that she decided to really give private practice a go. Developing and launching a private practice In January and February of 2023, Chanel decided to commit to trying out private practice. She did a lot throughout April and May to set up her business accounts and then in June 2023, she was ready to announce it to the world. Chanel's maternity leave ended in October 2022, but she didn't go back to work at the agency. She used those months to brainstorm and network in preparation for her private practice at the beginning of 2023. However, Chanel has slowly transitioned from working at the agency and is now in her practice full-time! Remembering your “why” Remembering and focusing on your “why” in private practice is essential because it helps you separate unnecessary stress from necessary to-dos. Your “why” makes it easier to distinguish between worries about what needs to get done, and knowing that getting them done is important for you, your practice, and the clients. It can give you fortitude and ground you in your passion for this work, especially on tougher days. Your unnecessary stressors often start with the “shoulds” and you can sift through them with a fine-tooth comb to take them off of your mind when you work through each day. Chanel's advice to listeners Cultivate a growth mindset and train yourself to see mistakes as opportunities to further find your “why” and to bring you back to your values. Great to catch up with a very switched on trainer who has sailed past the 1000 career win tally. Joe explains that he discourages owners from keeping horses who are not paying their way. He talks of his non racing family background and the early punting involvement that sparked his love of racing. Joe talks about the Psychology Degree he embarked upon at Sydney University. His parents were displeased when he quit after the first year. The trainer looks back on his invaluable four years as stable foreman for the master trainer John Size. Joe reflects on his decision to go solo when John Size accepted an offer to train in Hong Kong. He remembers his first training success at Wyong in 2001, and his initial city winner. Joe profiles Red Oog, his first elite level horse and the first of his 14 Gr 1 wins. The fifty year old has great affection for Vision And Power who came to him from Victoria with one win on his CV. He went on to win two Gr 1's. He pays tribute to an all time favourite Terravista, winner of 11 races including 2 Gr 1's and $2.6 million. Joe loved this horse. He acknowledges the talents of top mares Sacred Choice and Regal Cheer. Joe speaks highly of last year's Epsom winner Private Eye and his long time association with Proven Thoroughbreds. Stockman gets a good mention. The trainer talks of another quality mare Steps In Time with whom he won the Gr 1 Coolmore Classic. Joe pays tribute to several more of his favourite horses including the remarkable Destiny's Kiss. He won 10 stakes races with the remarkable veteran. He acknowledges a successful association with Tricolours Racing and Syndication. He pays an enormous tribute to his all time favourite Eduardo. The whole story is riveting. Joe admits he's not a chaser of two year old talent, but he's wrapped in one particular colt he has on the team. He concludes with a tribute to family- wife Kylie, son Brave and daughters Alice and Charlie. Racing Manager Orla Pearl also gets the nod of approval from the boss. A laid back chat with one of Sydney's most professional trainers.

Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Jovita: Hey Dr. Cabral, I would like to know if you can help me with my stomach problem. I get bloated a lot and burp 24/7 to a point where I can't sleep at night. My doctor said I had a chronic constipation and bacteria in my gut and I also have heart burn. And I have been having this problem for 2 years and the medicine doesn't help. Is there anything you have that I can buy to help ? Jenna: Hey Dr. Cabral! I really appreciate this community you've built. It has helped me overcome health complications I didn't think I'd ever heal and restored my faith in the power of my own body and mind. My question is a little different. I am thinking of going back to school to get my masters in psychology because I love the field, but don't know what career I want to pursue with it. I was wondering if functional medicine companies like yours had a psychologist on staff working with the team and the clients. I would love to work with people who are determined to improve their health in all areas. I've thought maybe sports psychology would align the best with working on both the physical and mental aspects of health, but thought I'd ask if there are any opportunities for psychologists on functional medicine teams. Thanks for all your help! Gillian: Hey there Dr. Cabral! I want to thank you first for sharing all your wisdom with all of us. You have an amazing heart for people and touch more people than you will ever know. My question is about breast implants. I got silicone implants 15 years ago and after reading and learning about natural and functional medicine, I think I may have made a big health mistake. While I love the way it makes me look and feel, I do not want to sacrifice my health. I'm in my late 30's and healthy. Should I have them removed for health reasons and if so, are there any heathy alternatives? Thank you so very much! Nancy: Hello Dr Cabral, I am a 57 yr old female with history of Hashimotos Thyroiditis, sleep apnea and I had a heart attack 5 yrs ago with one stent placed. I am on Pravastatin 20mg and zedia 20mg. I have recently gained about 30lbs over covid period due to lack of exercise. I am vegan and gluten free. My cholesterol has crept back up to 190 and my glucose is at pre-diabetic level (over one point) I have gained most of my weight in my middle region and my cortisol is also elevated. My oxidative stress and inflammation markers are low. I sleep well and I meditate and do breath practices. I can't tolerate stronger statins due to side effects. I know exercise will help and am getting back on the wagon. What else can I do to reverse all of this. Thank you. Desire: Hi, is heavy metal intoxication related to Autism/ASD? Is there any treatment recommended if they are related to reducing the effects of heavy metals e.g diet, vitamin or natural therapies? Audrey: Hi Dr. Cabral. I've been listening to to show for several years now and it has truly changed my life. Thank you. I've searched for this question but have not found it on the archives. Is broken 8-9 hrs of sleep still considered getting a full 8 hrs sleep? My 6 month old still wakes up once a night, so for instance I will get 6 hrs of straight sleep then another 2-3 hrs after I feed her and she goes back down Thank you for tuning into today's Cabral HouseCall and be sure to check back tomorrow where we answer more of our community's questions! - - - Show Notes & Resources: http://StephenCabral.com/2248 - - - Get Your Question Answered: http://StephenCabral.com/askcabral - - - Dr. Cabral's New Book, The Rain Barrel Effect https://amzn.to/2H0W7Ge - - - Join the Community & Get Your Questions Answered: http://CabralSupportGroup.com - - - Dr. Cabral's Most Popular At-Home Lab Tests: > Complete Minerals & Metals Test (Test for mineral imbalances & heavy metal toxicity) - - - > Complete Candida, Metabolic & Vitamins Test (Test for 75 biomarkers including yeast & bacterial gut overgrowth, as well as vitamin levels) - - - > Complete Stress, Mood & Metabolism Test (Discover your complete thyroid, adrenal, hormone, vitamin D & insulin levels) - - - > Complete Stress, Sleep & Hormones Test (Run your adrenal & hormone levels) - - - > Complete Food Sensitivity Test (Find out your hidden food sensitivities) - - - > Complete Omega-3 & Inflammation Test (Discover your levels of inflammation related to your omega-6 to omega-3 levels) - - - > View all Functional Medicine lab tests (View all Functional Medicine lab tests you can do right at home for you and your family)

This week on the podcast we delve into an incredibly important topic, the mental health and well-being of our athletes. With the recent withdrawal of one of the world's top tennis players, Naomi Osaka, from the French Open due to depression and social anxiety, this topic has been in the news a lot recently. There have been two distinct camps; one that says you make millions of dollars so suck it up and play, and the other that recognizes that just becasue these athletes are so exceptional in one area of their life does not mean they are not struggling in others. One of the people leading that discussion recently on CNN and the BBC is our friend Dr Jarrod Spencer. Dr. Jarrod Spencer (@jarrod_spencer) is president and founder of Mind of the Athlete, LLC, a sports psychology company committed to improving the emotional health of athletes (www.MindOfTheAthlete.com). He is the author of Mind of the Athlete: Clearer Mind, Better Performance and the co-author of the book the The Sky Is NOT The Limit: Discovering the True North for Your Life's Path. Dr. Spencer serves as the sports psychologist for several professional teams and individual professionals athletes. He also works closely with NCAA teams, including teams at Princeton University, Lehigh University and University of Maryland. He maintains a private practice wherein he provides one-on-one coaching for athletes and business leaders. He has been featured in CNN, BBC, USA Today, New York Daily News and ESPN Radio. Dr. Spencer is a frequent guest on WFMZ Morning News in the NY/NJ/PA region. He also starred in the TV Show “What the Heck Were They Thinking?!” with former Heavyweight Boxing Champion Larry Holmes. Additionally, Dr. Spencer created and starred on the TV show Mind of the Athlete. He has recorded 13 CDs, as well as over 500 podcasts and videos. Dr. Spencer has extensive training and experience in the field of health and sports psychology. Before earning a Doctor of Psychology Degree from Argosy University, formerly known as The Illinois School of Professional Psychology, he earned his Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology from West Chester University and his Bachelor's Degree in Psychobiology from Lafayette College. Dr. Spencer professionally trained at The Jersey Shore Medical Center, Northwestern Neuropsychological Association, and The Diamond Headache Clinic. He is a licensed psychologist in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Michigan and Virginia. Dr. Spencer is also a member of The American Psychological Association, Pennsylvania Psychological Association, and Lehigh Valley Psychological and Counseling Association. Influenced by views in neuroscience, psychoanalysis, Christianity, and peak performance literature, Dr. Spencer has a heart to assist athletes in attaining peak performance through sound emotional health. Today we get to speak with Evie! Over the past 8 years, she has marinated, soaked and absorbed the transformational and healing powers of gratitude. Not to mention the 20 years before that where I was on a continual quest to change and become the best version of herself. In addition to a Psychology Degree and Master's in counseling, she has attended numerous workshops and conferences to further her education in the Self Improvement Arena. Evie has also been coached and mentored by Bob Proctor and other leading mindset coaches. Evie has the passion and desire to help others step out of familiar, repeated, and habitual negative routines. It's far too common for humans to let unhealthy, inaccurate thoughts keep us anchored and bound to unhealthy life patterns. Let's listen in to this conversation as we take the journey to gratitude. Our Guest Evie Shaw Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/evie.shaw30 Hacks to Take Away She shared about being a part of a chapter in a book called awakened. Evie talks about a story in the book about when her husband left, and the journey that it took her on individually. That changed her radically. Being thankful and an adverse situation can literally and radically change your life and transform who you are. Find something to be thankful for. Any situation that we encounter that we don't like, look for one shared good in it. There's light at the end of the tunnel. And there's good on the other side, if you look for the good. If we can then turn our thoughts around to see the positive side of it, it works. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/hacksandhobbies/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/hacksandhobbies/support

During this interview, Rochelle Marie shares insight on her company, Her Leadership Way which empowers women to step into their leadership role after they return to work after raising their children. Rochelle's vision for leadership began as a child in her beloved country of New Zealand.Rochelle Marie had a twelve-year gap in her employment after raising her children. She founded Her Leadership Way in her efforts to help women that have taken time out of their life to raise their children and ultimately return to work and move into their role to make a difference in the workplace and not suffer at the hands of managers. All too often, women employees that had a gap in their employment don't receive the promotions they deserve, nor the leadership roles they so richly deserve as a result of working hard for the organizations that employ them.Rochelle shares three important lessons with listeners that elevate women to step into their leadership power. She states, "Women have strong leadership skills and their confidence is what moves them to leadership excellence." Women work hard and set wonderful examples for their kids, thus they should be an example for their children. Rochelle Marie's goal is to empower 100,000 women and she will be able to do it through her company Her Leadership Way. Women can also learn more about Rochelle's, The Accelerate Your Leadership Community as well. Check out this 2nd episode of season 4. We had Liz hang out on our couch after receiving a Massage Therapy treatment. She was a bit reluctant to strap on a headset and sit behind a mic, she's a bit shy, but deep down shes really a superhero. Liz does something special for work, something she calls "just being nice to people" but really it's so much more....she does social work in a homeless shelter for men with substance abuse issues. Listen in as we rap about how she got started in the this line of work, leaving University just shy of obtaining her Psychology Degree to pursue a Diploma in Social Service Work, serving wine and beer to addicts, her new found perspective on the male experience, the humor of being called f*ckface, a close call with COVID at her workplace, and how her friends and family feel about her job. She is a true hero, a silent hero who humbly does her thing while making a huge impact on the lives of those around her. ConEdInstitute.com 2rmtsandamic.com

In this episode of Small Business Connections Ann talks about the myths of leadership with personal strategist and facilitator, Jodi Hume of LeadingClarity.com. The analogies, metaphors and stories are heartfelt and help clear up what it takes to be a good and effective leader. We all need help sometimes and, that is exactly what Ann and Jodi provide. Why are there myths about leadership? People are not born leaders- that's another myth, for another day. Ann and Jodi talk and share stories that provide clearer insight into two leading ladies' busy careers. The 4 myths we discuss- It's Lonely at the Top- MYTH BUSTED Leading is is an endurance sport- MYTH BUSTED Leading is Knowing- MYTH BUSTED Leading means having all the answers- MYTH BUSTED Jodi quotes Seth Godin's "The problem you can't talk about... is now TWO problems." Ann and Jodi dive deep into their experiences sharing that #youarenotalone and the importance of not having all the answers is part of being a leader. Coordinating help is vital to being a leader. This is where leadership gains energy and the business moves successfully forward. Jodi realized she was a facilitator at a young age and compares this discovery to a peanut M&M, separating the variables, she found her entrepreneurial skill. Jodi works with founders and leaders around the world, helping them from the beginning stages of a start-up business, through the growing pains and celebrates the victories. Jodi is a certified CoActive Coach, a trained skilled facilitator from Johns Hopkins University and has a Psychology Degree from Loyola University. You can also find Jodi singing with The Wafflers, a Blues & Folk Band, and as a host on her podcast, So Here's My Story... So many great stories are shared in these 40 something minutes. One we have to mention is Ann's story about endurance. Leading is an endurance sport so, you have to treat it like one. You have to rest, hydrate and train. Ann completed an Ironman competition and knows what endurance that took. She talks about her good friend Bill Bradley and his ultra-endurance races. Bill tells Ann, if I would just call you and you remind me to rest for 30 minutes, I would get the rest I need to complete the challenge. The Small Business Connections Podcast is hosted by Ann Brennan, owner of ASMM Digital Marketing. The podcast was created as a means of helping her clients build a community around their brands. Since its inception, the podcast has grown to include guests from around the world and has been listened to in over 20 countries. It doesn't have to be lonely at the top.
