Ne parliamo insieme a Giulio Sapelli, Università Statale Milano.

Serious Topic: May is National Mental Health Awareness month, and I have been excited to talk about the topic of mental health on this podcast. I will discuss my own battles with depression, stress, binge drinking, and other issues that stemmed from my time at Bank of America (More of the serious stories will appear in my book) I will tell you how banks make employees feel like you are obliged to accept their abuse of power and incessant nitpicking. Plus I will also discuss the impact on customers, where working in the branch became a petri dish of crazy human emotion that was spurred by the policies and decisions that banks made to their clients. You will also hear me discuss how I witnessed threats of domestic violence while sitting in my office helping that was brought on by the unhelpful attitudes of Bank of America, and most certainly copied every other bank. (Some Adult Language in that discussion) Really Hard Podcast to do, but it needs to be done. Plus I announce how I am going to give back to charity for every part of my project. Plus one fun, if not sad, topic. Bank of America used to have a bunch of locations on the way to Vegas in Arizona. In The Past Lane - The Podcast About History and Why It Matters
This week at In The Past Lane, the American History podcast, we take a close look at America’s early colonial origins. Most Americans tend to think of their nation as beginning in Massachusetts with the 1620 establishment of a colony at Plymouth by the Pilgrims. But this view overlooks Jamestown, Virginia which had been established 13 years earlier in 1607. Why? Because, apart from periodic wars with local Native Americans, Massachusetts thrived, while further south in Virginia the Jamestown colony suffered through several periods of starvation and near extinction. And then in 1619 – 400 years ago this year – Jamestown was the site of the arrival of the first shipload of enslaved Africans. Plymouth, MA came to be seen as the New World utopia in contrast to the Jamestown dystopia. But there’s a lot more to the Jamestown story that’s really important to know about when considering the origins of the United States and American democracy. To explain this overlooked chapter of US history, I speak with Joseph Kelly, the author of a new book, Marooned: Jamestown, Shipwreck, and a New History of America’s Origin. Do you ever get the impression people are laughing at you, America? More so recently? It could just be your imaginations. But in the view of our experts, Ambassador Nick Burns, Rosa Brooks and Kori Schake, the reason is all the actual laughter you are hearing from everywhere in the world. The world’s view of America, as recent polls have shown, is at a low point. The question is whether this is something new, a turning point, or we were always this funny (or flawed). How the Great Recession Has Changed Life in America More than half (55%) of all adults in the labor force say that since the Great Recession began 30 months ago, they have suffered a spell of unemployment, a cut in pay, a reduction in hours or have become involuntary part-time workers, according to a new survey by the Pew Research Center‘s Social & Demographic Trends Project. The survey also finds that the recession has led to a new frugality in Americans‘ spending and borrowing habits; a diminished set of expectations about their retirements and their children‘s future; and a concern that it will take several years, at a minimum, for their family finances and house values to recover. Not all survey findings are bleak. More than six-in-ten (62%) Americans believe that their personal finances will improve in the coming year, and a small but growing minority (15%) now says the national economy is in good shape. These green shoots of public optimism are not evenly distributed—nor do they always sprout from the most likely sources. Several groups that have been hardest hit by this recession (including blacks, young adults and Democrats) are significantly more upbeat than their more sheltered counterparts (including whites, older adults and Republicans) about a recovery both for themselves and for the national economy. This report analyzes economic outcomes, behavioral changes and attitudinal trends related to the recession among the full adult population and among different subgroups. It is based on a Pew Research Center survey of 2,967 adults conducted from May 11 to May 31, 2010, on cellular and landline telephones and also on a Pew Research analysis of government economic and demographic data. We will discuss Key findings and we will remember Steve Jobs in our last segment..
Your Dog Prefers The New HDTV. When you purchased that new high-def TV, you were probably thinking how crisp the picture appears to you. Did you know that your dog couldn't see what we saw with your old TV? It just looked like the horizontal hold needed to be adjusted because all your dog saw were lines going up and down. Today's new Digital Television delivers the signal differently, and yes your dog can see the same picture you see, but probably not the same colors. Red is still white to the canine eye. That Slobbery Kiss Doesn't Necessarily Mean Fido Loves You Perhaps because human beings form such strong bonds with dogs, we tend to assign human-biased traits to their behavior. The technical word is Anthropomorphism. We project our own feelings onto our furry-family members. And more often than not, we're wrong. That slobbery kiss beckons back to early wolf behavior and the regurgitation of food. While it is a positive behavior, it has nothing to do with kissing. Christo's Son Following in Father's Footsteps Environmental Artist Christo's son, Cyril, has created a stunning photo book of elephants. His message is poignant. Elephant populations are declining because of illegal poaching and the destruction of our environment. Cyril and his wife Marie describe their journey and mission. Cyril guests this week on Animal Radio® Do Dogs Feel Guilt? We may think those puppy eyes are expressing remorse or even guilt for something your dog did wrong. Truth is that canines don't feel guilt, and this look was developed to appease you according to Alexandria Horowitz. The psychology professor tops the best-selling book list with Inside Of A Dog, and she's Animal Radio's special guest this week. What's Bloat? Why is it so common? Many breeds are predisposed to stomach bloat. This can actually be fatal if the stomach flips upside down. A surgical procedure can almost alleviate bloat. A blind listener is selecting a service dog and needs help deciding if bloat will be an issue. H1N1 Sicken Cat and Ferrets The Swine Flu Virus has touched our four-legged family members. Reports of cats and ferrets contracting the H1N1 virus have put us on full-alert. Dr. Julie Levy has the truths and myths about how the virus can affect our animals. Levy says if we get the flu, we shouldn't spend time close to our pets. While dogs don't seem to fall victim to this brand of flu (they have their own dog flu), felines and other domestic pets are at risk! Animal Radio® has complete coverage of this important news event. Dogs Allowed - No Kids A German eatery has opened touting the dog-friendly policy. May not seem different, but the owner has decided not to allow kids or children. He says they're noisier and dirtier than the four-legged clientele. So far, not too many complaints about the policy. Is this something we should try in America? More
