In the 1990s, he released his first four studio albums—Toby Keith (1993), Boomtown (1994), Blue Moon (1996) and Dream Walkin' (1997)—and Greatest Hits Volume One under Mercury Records. These albums all earned gold or higher certification and had several top ten singles, including his chart-topping debut "Should've Been a Cowboy".Signed to DreamWorks Records Nashville in 1998, Keith released his breakthrough single "How Do You Like Me Now?!" in late 1999. This song, the title track to his 1999 album of the same name, was the number one country song of 2000, and one of several chart-toppers during his tenure on DreamWorks Nashville. His next three albums, Pull My Chain, Unleashed, and Shock'n Y'all, produced three more number ones each, and all of the albums were certified 4× Platinum. A second Greatest Hits package followed in 2004, and after that, he released Honkytonk University. When DreamWorks closed in 2005, Keith founded the label Show Dog Nashville, which merged with Universal South Records to become Show Dog-Universal Music in December 2009. He had released ten studio albums through Show Dog/Show Dog-Universal: 2006's White Trash with Money, 2007's Big Dog Daddy, 2008's That Don't Make Me a Bad Guy, 2009's American Ride, 2010's Bullets in the Gun, 2011's Clancy's Tavern, 2012's Hope on the Rocks, 2013's Drinks After Work, 2015's 35 MPH Town, 2017's The Bus Songs, and 2021's Peso in My Pocket, as well as the compilation 35 Biggest Hits in 2008. Keith also made his acting debut in 2006, starring in the film Broken Bridges, and co-starred with comedian Rodney Carrington in the 2008 film Beer for My Horses, inspired by his song of the same name.Keith released 19 studio albums, 2 Christmas albums, and 5 compilation albums, totaling worldwide sales of over 40 million albums. He charted 61 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, including 20 number one hits and 22 additional top 10 hits. His longest-lasting number one hits are "Beer for My Horses" (a 2003 duet with Willie Nelson) and "As Good as I Once Was" (2005), at six weeks each. Keith was awarded the National Medal of Arts by President Donald Trump in a closed ceremony alongside Ricky Skaggs on January 13, 2021.This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:17 UTC on Wednesday, 7 February 2024.For the full current version of the article, see Toby Keith on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm Joey Standard.

Episode 202:   This time around, our guest is Malcolm Shabazz Hoover, community organizer and author of 144: ONE HUNDRED FORTY-FOUR POEMS AND ESSAYS FOR GOD, LOVE, TRUTH, JUSTICE, PEACE, AND HIP HOP. Malcolm is in the early stages of planning and preparing for Malcolm's American Ride. In his own words:    For a few years I've been watching the tide of racism rise in the United States. Racism is part of the founding consciousness of our country, and too many of us have no tools to deal with it. It's a dangerous, deadly cancer that has to be dealt with. We want to talk about it, but we don't know how so what happens is we stumble around hurting each other with our words. We want to make it better, but we don't know how. We don't have enough common language or tools to discuss these things. Some of us have been talking about these things for literally 400 years, others just started to think about it this year. We want everyone at the table to have what will be honest, hard discussions. I love people, I love to travel and I love motorcycles. I thought "How cool would it be to build a bike, jump on it, ride the country and get people talking?" Not only will we gather and talk, where we can, we'll do projects together. Hell yeah. Malcolm comes on to talk to us about social justice, riding motorcycles, and just trying to do some good in the world between people.  Willie Nile is currently in the midst of a creative renaissance that’s produced some of the most compelling music of his 35-year career. The tradition continues with his CD American Ride. The CD is being released on Loud and Proud Records, where Nile becomes the first artist released under the label’s new deal with RED Distribution.“It’s pretty rockin’ over all, but there are some left turns and right turns along the way,” Nile says of the album, which was fan-funded through Pledgemusic.com. “There are songs about the rights of man, songs about freedom, songs about love and hate, songs about loss, songs about God and the absence of God, and songs about standing up for your fellow man. It’s upbeat and full of life. I’m thrilled with how it came out.”American Ride offers a bracing set of 11 original compositions, and one well-chosen cover, that rank with the catchiest and most vivid music that Nile’s ever delivered. From the everyday wisdom of “Life on Bleecker Street” and “Sunrise in New York City” to the broader observations of “This Is Our Time” and “Holy War” to the rock ’n’ roll abandon of “Say Hey” and the road-tripping title track. Several of American Ride’s recurring themes come into focus on the last two songs, “The Crossing” and “There’s No Place Like Home,” which end the album on a note of humanistic uplift. Another highlight is a fiery reading of Jim Carroll’s “People Who Died,” recorded as a tribute to both Carroll, who passed away in 2009, and to Nile’s late brother John. American Ride features backup from Nile’s live band guitarist Matt Hogan, bassist Johnny Pisano, drummer Alex Alexander, and Nile on guitar & piano guest appearances by Eagles’ guitarist Steuart and New York singer-songwriters James Maddock & Leslie Mendelson.

Today World Footprints will go on an American Ride, experience exhilarating thrills and preview a month-long California Wine Festival. Television show host, historian and motorcycle buff Stan Ellsworth breaks the mold of the stereotypical high school history teacher.  A former NFL player, Stan is the Harley Davidson-riding host and creator of BYU-TV’s American Ride.  Join us as we hop on the “iron horse” with Stan as he takes us through American history. As the author of “America’s Top Roller Coasters and Amusement Parks” Pete Trabucco knows a thing or two about high-speed thrills.  Pete is taking his need for speed and death-defying adventures to the airwaves in a new show, Thrill Ride Maniacs, and he’ll share the best places to enjoy a thrill in America. With Earth Day just around the corner, California wineries are embarking on a first time, month-long celebration called “Down to Earth Month.”  Gladys Horiuchi of The Wine Institute will preview the month’s festivities and some up and coming wine regions in California.

When Dave Pahanish and Joe West get together, you know they’re going to make some incredible music.  The longtime friends first hit the top of the charts together a year or so ago with ‘Do You Believe Me Now’, a number one hit for Jimmy Wayne.  Now that duo is again at the top of the charts with ‘American Ride,’ recorded by Toby Keith. ‘American Ride’ is the title track off Toby Keith’s latest album on his own Show Dog Records.
