While KellieAnn is recovering from surgery, our good friend Heather Kelly is guest hosting Fan Effect this February with her limited Money Making Sense series live from Sundance 2025. This episode is “The Hooters’ Eric Bazilian.” Songwriter, producer, and musician Eric Bazilian of The Hooters says he started his first band the day after seeing The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show. He wound up playing guitar riffs on two of Cyndi Lauper's best hits and was nominated for a Grammy. Learn which songs these are, which fans in which country are the most faithful to his music, and how long it took The Hooters to recoup their 1984 record deal with Columbia Records financially. The brains behind Fan Effect are connoisseurs of categories surpassing nerdy with a goal to publish a weekly "What to Watch on the Weekend" minisode taken from KSL-TV's Friday segment, and two deep-dives a month on shows, creative works, artists, local events, and other fandom topics. Fan Effect is sponsored by Megaplex Theatres, Utah's premiere movie entertainment company.

Radio friendly, some heartland authenticity, and a bit of Philly attitude. Remember The Hooters? “I don't think we really fit into the ‘80s mold,” said lead singer and guitarist Eric Bazilian. “But we sure do show up on a lot of ‘80s playlists. If anything, I think we were a ‘70s band who had survived into the ‘80s.” And you can hear a little in the first album - their major label release Nervous Night. In the United States, they had three decent hits off that album. In 1985, the band played at the Live Aid benefit concert in Philadelphia In Europe, the Hooters had success with singles in Germany, Ireland, UK, Germany, Belgium Netherlands. But not everyone liked them. Quotes online like “sub-Springsteen pop rock”, “reggae-inflected hokum” or “split the difference between Bruce and U2, wipe clean any trace of personality, and you've got The Hooters”. Ouch. But hear me out. it was enthusiastic and earnest, and they wanted to rock a bit. “And We Danced” - that's their signature sound. But how did The Hooters find success, and what's up now? Well, let's dive in. ------- email: rockpoprollpodcast@gmail.com website: www.rockpopandroll.com
It's Throwback Thursday, and this week we're revisiting Eric Bazilian's first appearance on the show from January 10, 2022. Joan Osborne is best known for a certain big hit yet has amassed an impressive career since then. Her latest album, Nobody Owns You, may be her most personal yet, with songs about her mother's Alzheimer's, the impact of time spent in “Too Many Airports” and the title track addressed to her daughter. Yet she remains as enthusiastic interpreting others' songs as her own. One early such song, Eric Bazilian's “One of Us,” initially was intended for another singer (Osborne does an excellent impression here), but she made it her own on her 1995 debut album, Relish. “One of Us,” in turn, made Osborne a star but perhaps gave listeners a misleading first impression of a powerful blues/soul singer who belts “Right Hand Man,” “Ladder” and others. Osborne reflects on it all, including the strangeness of being a shy person whose job it is to sing in front of other people. (Photo by Laura Crosta.)
The Hooters' Eric Bazilian tells us a bazillion stories including the time he had to skip a flight from L.A. because Ringo Starr wanted to write songs with him; being cheered on by Jack Nicholson as his band took the stage at Live Aid; and offering Pete Townshend a case of beer, a pizza and a deli tray to get The Who to play his daughter's wedding. Via kontakter hamnade han i Estlands Melodifestival Esti Laul som han vann och hamnade i Eurovision song contest 2019 ned låten Storm. Nu har han även hunnit vara med i svenska Mello både som artist och låtskrivare. Eric Bazilian makes his triumphant return to the show, this time to dive into the fascinating backstory of his iconic song “One Of Us,” made famous by Joan Osborne in 1995. Eric recounts the spontaneous genesis of the track, revealing that he composed it in a single night after his then-girlfriend expressed interest in his recording process. Despite some controversy about the song from a few dimwits of the era, it has endured and continues to resonate today. To add a special touch, Eric even breaks out the very acoustic guitar used in the song's recording, offering an extra layer of authenticity to this can't-miss episode. I grew up watching MTV as a teen (and beyond) and one band that stood out for me were THE HOOTERS (A Philadelphia PA band that looked fun and lyrically different with lines and melodies you'd remember for a long time). Who can forget the songs "And We Danced", "All You Zombies", "Day by Day" and "Hanging on a Heartbeat" ? It was a great honor to finally talk to Eric Bazilian! The Hooters just got off a tour with Rick Springfield & Tommy TuTone. ********* Matt and I (rob) talk to Eric about: - Eric's beginnings at age 10 with his band The Limestones - Being a huge part of the monumental debut album from Cyndi Lauper (Eric wrote and played the guitar riff for Girls Just Wanna Have Fun; his partner Rob Hyman wrote Time After Time with Cyndi) - We find out how the HOOTERS got their name and Eric even shows us and plays us his very own Hooter - The creation of Joan Osbourne's hit song "one of us" (in which Eric wrote) - Eric's connection to Sweden - How The Hooter's are big in Germany (move over David Hasselhoff!) - Paul Stanley - The Philly Taco and much much more! ************ You can find Eric (or the Hooters) on Facebook & Instagram. On this episode, take a tour with us - to the early 80's - to Scandal, as we drop into the short history of the band that released an EP that was a scattering blast of five songs - including “Goodbye To You” and “Love Has Got A Line”. At the time, it was the best-selling EP in the history of Columbia Records. But did I ever really listen to, back in 1982 or 84 or 87 or whenever, all the five songs? Maybe. Around this time, in 1982, Pat Benatar was coming towards the end of her best run. Scandal had that vibe - rock and roll crunch with a new wave-ish bite. Early 80's production and the couple hits were all about the chorus making your hips move and your head nod. Scandal threw five variations of their sound out there to see what's stuck. And did it with 80's killer keyboard playing, guitars-and-drums of the time, and a powerhouse singer out front. Patty Smyth went solo in 1987 with her debut album. The first of two hits on it, "Never Enough" (the album's title track), was written by The Hooters' Rob Hyman and Eric Bazilian (there are a surprising amount of Hooters connections to other artist's music of the era). Rick Chertoff, who produced both The Hooters and Cyndi Lauper's debut megasmash album is involved too. Baby Grand, a pre-Hooters lineup, recorded an earlier version of "Never Enough". Smyth said the album "was never supposed to be a solo record; it was meant to be a record by 'Scandal Featuring Patty Smyth'.” So we listen to the EP. Let's dig into “The Warrior” album, and hear some of what we like - and don't so much - with Smyth's solo records. Still, at the essence of it all is a great rock and roll voice, some drops of rock and pop candy, and a whole bunch more to like than what was heard just on the radio. *** Read Rob's current and archived writing at rockforwardmusic.com WEBSITE: rockpopandroll.com EMAIL: rockpoprollpodcast@gmail.com SUBSCRIBE: Apple Podcasts Spotify Stitcher Google Podcasts
On Episode 25 of "Talking At The Diner," I ventured into the outer Philly burbs to Phoenixville, PA to meet up with singer songwriter Alexis Cunningham, a powerful and charismatic performer who has done some very cool things in her still-ascending career. In 2022, she appeared on American Song Contest on NBC, where she performed her song “Working On A Miracle” and completed against some serious musical heavyweights like Jewel and Macy Gray. She's also developed a long-lasting creative partnership with Eric Bazilian from Philly rock legends the Hooters and gauging by the last time I saw her perform, Alexis writing the best songs of her career. Trust me when I tell you she's got songs.I actually got an opportunity last year to sing back-ups on a stripped down version of "Working On A Miracle" with Alexis and Joey DiTullio during a show with David Uosikkinen's In The Pocket. Check it out HERE. I diner'd up with Alexis at the brilliantly named “YOUR MOM'S PLACE,” located at the far end of Phoenixville's bustling downtown. I had a great time catching up with her and I hope you enjoy our conversation!
Tania Doko become a pop sensation in 1998 as one half of Melbourne duo ‘Bachelor Girl'. Their 1998 debut single, "Buses and Trains", was a top-10 hit in Australia and New Zealand; it peaked in the top 30 in Sweden and charted in the UK. The follow-up single, "Treat Me Good", reached the top 40 in Australia and New Zealand and their debut studio album, Waiting for the Day, was released in 1998 and reached the top 20 on the ARIA Albums Chart and achieved platinum certification. A successful songwriter in her own right, Tania went on to write hit records with The Veronicas, Jessica Mauboy, Eric Bazilian, Delta Goodrem, Sheppard, and Tina Arena, to name a few. She was also a judge on Channel 7's Popstars. In 2012, Tania moved to Sweden where she worked as a singer/songwriter and vocal coach and is now an official APRA AMCOS Ambassador for the Nordic region. Bachelor Girl had already sold a total of more than 500,000 albums and singles worldwide when they reformed in 2017. In 2018 they released “Speak”, exactly 20 years to the day of their debut single. In February 2023, Bachelor Girl released "Calling Out Your Name", and in July this year she released “Harder Now”, her first single from her upcoming EP.

The Hooters were most known for their handful of rock singles in the 80s: "And We Danced," "Day By Day," "All You Zombies," to name a few. There is a reggae-tinged to "All You Zombies." Earlier versions of the song were more overt because when they formed, The Hooters were one of the US's first ska bands. Today we sit down with Hooters' members Rob Hyman and Eric Bazilian to talk about their ska years in Philadelphia. The group got a lot of local radio play with their cover of The Skatalites' "Man on the Street." We also discuss their first rendition of "All You Zombies," which was another crowd-pleaser during these years. Their history with ska is expansive. Rob tells us about visiting Jamaica in the 60s as a teen and hearing Eric Monty Morris' "Sammy Dead" on the radio and immediately deciding he needed to track that record down. We also dive deep into a very unusual and interesting time for the band in the 80s when they collaborated with Cyndi Lauper on her "She's So Unusual" album. We discuss such favorites as "Time After Time" and "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" and hear about all the ska and reggae elements that started out on this record in the demo phase (Some of those elements remained!) The band confirms for us that Cyndi loves ska. And of course, it wouldn't be a proper episode of In Defense of Ska if we didn't ask a fellow Philly band about Catbite. And no surprise, they are besties! Support the show
Hello, fellow slobs! This week, we're diving into Joan Osborne and her inescapable 1996 hit, “One of Us”. Written on a whim by Eric Bazilian of The Hooters, the song asks important questions about a supposed higher power, including “if God had a face, what would it look like?” Well, WE'D speculate that he or she MIGHT look like this week's guest…Meeting Of Important People's Josh Verbanets! Will we put thunder on Joan's name, or would we rather she remain a stranger on the bus tryin' to make her way home? Stay tuned to find out. Everybody knows Cyndi Lauper's big hit, “Girls Just want to have Fun”, but not so well-known is her career since then - a star-turn on “We are the World”, a string of great albums including Billboard's Blues Album of the Year, and writing “Kinky Boots”, a hit Broadway musical, all contribute to her story. Our album "To Listen To Before You Die" this week – Leonard Cohen's “Songs of Love and Hate” - is chock-full of understated songs and amazing turns of phrase. Show regulars will know that Mick loves it, and Jeff not so much. Tune in to find out why. Jeff takes a look at Extreme Ironing as an up-and-coming sport, and the boys look at how one of Elon Musk's batteries could boost tourism to Central Australia by allowing a pizza shop and ice-creamery to open in the country's most remote parts. My guest today is Eric Bazilian, an original member of The Hooters, producer, and musician writing and recording with other artists liken Cyndi Lauper, Joan Osborne, The Scorpions, Ricky Martin, Jonatha Brooke, Leanne Rymes, and William Wittman to name just a few. Eric has been a guest on the podcast on episode RSR122 to talk about his start in music and writing the song “One Of Us” for Joane Osborne on his kitchen table. So please go check out that episode too. Also, make sure to catch his video series Under The Hood where Eric breaks down all his music and writing methods. Email in 2021 “...Being stuck in Stockholm with limited resources (a 2012 MacBook Pro, Apollo Twin, one Gefell mic, a couple of electric guitars, a mandola, a keyboard controller, and a short scale Gretsch bass that my son bought when was twelve) afforded me the time and motivation to make my first solo album in almost twenty years. Drums were cut by my drummer in Philadelphia (challenging considering his total lack of engineering experience, but I made it work), and by my other drummer in Slovenia (recorded by a producer/engineer genius in an amazing studio). I mixed it myself on a pair of Yamaha HS5s, with a lot of input from some legendary mixers (including our pal John Fields), mastered by my guy in Slovenia. You probably know Eric Bazilian from the well known 80's group, the Hooters. Eric has played the biggest stages in the world, opening Live Aid in 1985, playing the huge Amnesty International gig in 1986, and even participating in Roger Waters epic 1990 performance of The Wall, at the site of the former Berlin Wall. Eric has seen it all.So, why did Eric end up in Sweden, working with a plethora of different European artists and stepping into a radically different role as a quiet songwriter or a producer of these up and coming acts? Well, there's a story there. and we're going to get to the bottom of it.Eric's new solo album, Bazilian, is available now and has some classic sounding tracks on it. After you listen to this show, I can't exaggerate enough that you should go and pick it up. It's a wonderful series of songs and a perfect snapshot of the world we now live in, good and bad. This is my conversation with another legend and one of my personal songwriting heroes.... Pat welcomes Hooter's singer/songwriter Eric Bazilian to the Zoom Room to discuss his new solo album "Bazilian."
“Bach Is My Torah" The Philadelphia-born Eric Bazilian's dad was a psychiatrist but it was his concert pianist mother who likely influenced him to start playing the piano at age 5. Four years later he was playing guitar and seven years later at the age of 16 he had his first band, Evil Seed. While getting a B.S. in Physics at the University of Pennsylvania, Bazilian and his college pal Rob Hyman formed a band called Baby Grand and after that band called it a day with two albums under their belts, Bazilian and Hyman formed the Hooters. Over the course of their winning career, the Hooters put out six albums, had a handful of top 40 hits with songs like "Day By Day” and "And We Danced," they opened Live Aid in Philadelphia, the Amnesty International Concert at Giants Stadium in ’86 and the Roger Waters The Wall Concert in Berlin in 1990. Bazilian not only produced Joan Osborne’s Grammy Nominated Relish album, he wrote "One Of Us," which is one of the most memorable songs of the last 50 years. It was covered by "everyone from Prince to Seal and it was used as the theme song for the TV show "Joan of Arcadia," for which Bazilian won an ASCAP Film and Television Music Award. Over the course of his career he’s written and co written songs for and with a crazy list of talent. Here’s a partial list: Patty Smyth, Bon Jovi, BIf Naked, Ronnie Spector, Matt Nathanson, and Robbie Williams. In 2000 Bazilian was inducted into the Philadelphia Walk of Fame on the Avenue of the Arts and his new solo album Bazilian is a life-affirming blast of rootsy pop stomp that’s energizing, soulful and positively infectious. The Hooters are an ongoing proposition and they’re massively popular in Germany and Scandinavia, playing sell-out shows to adoring fans. In this chat, Bazilian talks to Alex about life in Sweden, why Bach is his Torah, and saying no to Bob Dylan... www.ericbazilian.com www.hootersmusic.com www.alexgreenonline.com www.bombshellradio.com

ESSRA MOHAWK Pt. 1 Show Notes Essra Mohawk has had a very long and storied career. To describe her music as eclectic is a gross understatement. Her songs run the gamut from pop to avant garden, and in between she covers a lot of bases including rock, folk, folk rock, motown, jazz, tv jingles, rhythm and blues, and beautiful, heartfelt ballads about love and lust. Born Sandra Elayne Hurvitz, her earlier influences were her parents, Anne and Henry. Through them she grew up listening to an eclectic list of artists such as Judy Garland, Nina Simone, The Coasters, Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers, Little Anthony & the Imperials, Thelonius Monk, Erik Satie, Billy Holiday, Otis Redding, The Beatles, The Stones, Ravi Shankar among others/ In 1964 she released a single as Jamie Carter titled “The Boy With the Way” which I personally think is a really cool song. It pronbably could have been a hit hat it received proper publicity and marketing. Essra sounded a little peeved talking about it. I don’t blame her, and it would turn out not to be the first time here career hit a snag or detour. Essra was also the first female member of the Mothers of Invention. In fact, she spent about a year in a relationship with Frank Zappa who thanks to band member Ray Collins suggestion for a rock star name, dubbed her, Uncle Meat. When I first met Uncle Meat, she was in Philly on hiatus, and I had no idea who Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention were at the time. I would shortly discover them through Philadelphia DJ Michael Tearson, and eventually make the connection. But, I was happy to finally talk to her again so I could tell her the story of my first Essra Mohawk encounter. At this point, I should probably apologize for hijacking the conversation, for which I was duly busted by Essra. As I mentioned, her career is multifaceted, so the Show Notes page at talesoftheroadwarriors-slash-Essra-Mohawk includes some Essra Mohawk Career Highlights, discography ands links to some of the songs we talked about in this conversation. In my conversation, BTW, I barely scratched the surface of her career, so this is really just a little slice of life in which I hopefully captured some of her essence and got a couple pretty good stories from her. Due to technical difficulties, I just couldn’t get good enough audio, so I’ll just tell you some things that were to garbled to include in the podcast. I did manage to capture a little about her “crazy courage” as a Philly girl, and her propensity to stick up for others against bullies - and her mom. The main story I was hoping to have her retell was how she was scheduled to be one of the performers at Woodstock, but her manager missed the turn, causing Essra to miss her debut on the most well known world stage of all time. A year later Shadow Morton who produced both the Shangri-Las and Vanilla Fudge, discovered her and her music and in1966 the Shangri-La’s recorded Essra’s song “I’ll Never Learn” . Soon after that, her song, “The Spell That Comes After” was recorded by Vanilla Fudge on their “Renaissance” album. In 1967, Essra was discovered once again. This time by Frank Zappa who, after hearing her play was so blown away, he immediately invited her to join his band, The Mothers of Invention, thus making her their first female member. Within a year he signed her and released her first solo album on Verve. While performing with the Mothers, Essra also opened for Cream (their first time in New York), Procol Harum(Keith Reid’s lyrics to “Quite Rightly So” are about Essra), Albert King, Electric Flag, Grateful Dead (their first performance in N.Y.), and Jimi Hendrix. By 1969 Essra was recording her second album in L.A. and S.F. for Reprise after Mo Ostin (then Vice President) discovered her singing at a club in N.Y. and asked her on the spot to come to the label. The result was “Primordial Lovers”, an LP that received a 5 star review in Downbeat, raves in Mix, and was stated as being “one of the best 25 albums ever made” in Rolling Stone magazine. Unfortunately, these reviews came over a year after the release of the album and new fans found it hard to secure the LP due to poor distribution and the sale of the Reprise label following the release. Nevertheless, this critically acclaimed musical work continues to generate a cult following for Essra. In fall of 2000 it was released on CD by Rhino Handmade. She wrote most of the songs while living in Mendocino, California. While recording the album, Essra married her producer, Frazier Mohawk, and from that time on was known as Essra Mohawk. She also sang in a background vocal trio with Carole King. Essra’s third album, released in 1974 on Elektra/Asylum, once again without proper promotion or distribution, led England’s music magazine, Melody Maker, to declare it, “the richest and most unheralded event in American music” that year. After moving back to Philadelphia in the 70’s, Ms. Mohawk continued to sing as a session vocalist. She is especially known for singing on Schoolhouse Rock, the popular educational and musical cartoon series that continues to air on TV. Essra’s vocals are on “Interjections”, “Sufferin’ Till Suffrage”, and “Mother Necessity”. After ABC Video released the cartoons on video in the 90’s, they received an upsurge of popularity and the troupe, led by music director, Bob Dorough, began performing live in the mid-90’s. A new album on which Essra sang wrote and produced a track entitled “Do You Wanna Party” about political parties in the U.S. was released on Rhino in Sept. ‘98 on an album called “Schoolhouse Rocks the Vote”. Ms. Mohawk’s fourth album was released on Private Stock records in 1976. After the same lack of support that has kept Essra’s remarkable music in the shadows, she left the label and moved back to California in 1977. Paul Kantner wanted her to be the lead singer in Jefferson Starship after Grace Slick dropped out for a while but he couldn’t convince the rest of the band to use another female vocalist so they chose a male, Micky Thomas, instead. In 1980-82 Essra performed as a background vocalist with the Jerry Garcia Band. During the same period she co-wrote “Haze” with Bobby Weir and his band “Bobby and the Midnights” for their Atlantic release. Also, Essra has collaborated with Al Jarreau, Bonnie Bramlett, Mark McEntee of the DiVinyls, Eric Bazilian, Al Stewart and Narada Michael Walden. She sang and recorded with John Mellencamp. (He’d seek her out wherever she lived for her advice and encouragement.) Essra’s music and ideas inspired Joni Mitchell’s “Woodstock” (Essra was scheduled to play at the original Woodstock, but her manager missed a turn and they arrived too late. She finally played at the 25th Anniversary at Bethel.) ***David Crosby’s “Deja Vu” was inspired by Essra’s song “I Have Been Here Before”. David would ask her to play it for him whenever he saw her and then wrote “Deja Vu” as a result. In 1982, Essra moved back to Philadelphia from L.A. and was brought into the McFadden & Whitehead pre-production sessions. She conjured up “Not With Me” overnight for the duo and they released it on their Capitol album that year. Essra recorded two more solo albums in the 80’s. Both were released independently and both were produced by her, then, husband Daoud Shaw (Van Morrison’s drummer for many years and original drummer for Saturday Night Live). They first met during those early days on Bleeker St. in New York’s Greenwich Village, where she jammed vocally with jazz greats: Mike Manieri, the Brecker Bros., Eddie Gomez and Jeremy Steig. As a result her vocal style developed more along the lines of a wind instrument than that of a typical pop singer. Being in the Mothers then also helped to propel the youth to such a creative and original stance as a vocalist. Three of her early LPs were reissued on CDs in Japan in spring 2003, followed by her recent tours to California, the East Coast and Japan. Essra’s first album on CD “Raindance” which was released on Schoolkids Records in ‘95 was reissued on Evidence Feb., 2005. Her 1999 CD, “Essie Mae Hawk Meets the Killer Groove Band”, was remastered and reissued on Essra’s own label, MummyPump, in 2003. Essra’s been living in Nashville, TN since 1993 where she continues to write and record, playing her music on piano, mandolin and guitar. Keb’ Mo’, Steve Cropper and Bonnie Bramlett are among the stellar performers who joined Essra on her 2003 Evidence CD “You’re Not Alone”. Her songs were used on the CBS series Joan of Arcadia in 2004 and 2005. The book, “Hotel California” is one of many books about music that mentions Essra.

Steve Cooper talks with musician/songwriter Eric Bazilian. Eric is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, arranger and producer, best known for being a founding member of the rock band The Hooters and for writing "One of Us," made famous by Joan Osborne in 1995. Nervous Night, The Hooters' 1985 debut on Columbia Records, sold more than 2 million copies and included Billboard Top 40 hits "Day By Day" (#18), "And We Danced" (#21) and "Where Do The Children Go" (#38). As a result, they were asked to open three major musical events of the late 20th century: Live Aid in Philadelphia in 1985, Amnesty International Concert at Giants Stadium in 1986, and Roger Waters' The Wall Concert in Berlin in 1990. In 1995, The Hooters went on hiatus but since then have released more studio and live albums and still tour together. This week's behind the scenes dispatch from "Ska Boom! An Oral History About The Birth Of American Ska & Reggae" is a bit about the story of The Hooters. For those in the know, the band - which was founded by Rob Hyman and Eric Bazilian - burst onto the Philadelphia club scene in 1980 and very quickly became a huge success along their native East Coast. Their unique blend of ska, reggae and rock n roll was a fresh and powerful sound and in 1983 The Hooters released their first independent album "Amore", which sold over 100,000 copies. "Amore" introduced the original ska and reggae versions of songs like "All You Zombies", "Hanging On A Heartbeat", "Fightin' On The Same Side" and "Blood From A Stone." It was also during this time that Rob and Eric, along with producer Rick Chertoff, wrote and played on Cyndi Lauper's debut album "She's So Unusual". In this podcast, Rob shares about how he was first introduced to ska while on a family vacation in Jamaica in the mid-60s, the process of starting the band and their ska and reggae sound and what it was like to work and record with Cyndi Lauper and how they brought a ska and reggae influence to songs on her debut album.

After releasing six albums, The Hooters obtained a large global following throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Throughout his career Eric has collaborated on musical projects for many other artists. Some of the long list he has worked with include Jon Bon Jovi, Cyndi Lauper, The Scorpions, Robbie Williams, Ricky Martin, LeAnn Rimes, Journey and many others. He also recently toured with Joe Bonamassa and performed in Europe at benefits for the Light of Day Foundation that helps with Parkinson's Disease awareness.
The Hooters were a pretty big band back in the mid-to-late 80s with three top 40 hits (and a few others that barely missed). Sadly, sales started to sag around the beginning of the 90s, but the band continues on to this day in some form, still drawing large crowds in parts of Europe. In this interview we talk about fickle American crowds, The Hooters slot playing at Live Aid, Eric and his Hooter partner Rob Hyman's involvement in the recording of Cyndi Lauper's smash debut album She's So Unusual, and him writing Joan Osbourne's "One Of Us", one of the biggest songs of the 90s. Eric remains a relentless artist, praying his muse will point him toward the next big hit.
