Ever wondered how far someone could get simply by looking official and speaking with confidence? This episode dives into the hilariously audacious world of a TikTok comedian who's built an entire brand around posing as an "OSHA Cares Diversity Affairs" representative. Armed with nothing but a white polo shirt, clipboard, and fake badge number, he walks into businesses and confronts management with absurd "anonymous employee complaints" – including one about someone "running around like he on powder" and management having "a personal vendetta against bisexual Brian."From there, we dive into our signature random sample bag segment, pulling out a fragrance for review. The conversation unexpectedly evolves into a spirited debate about cats, the horrifying experience of opening wet cat food, and whether scented laundry products might be interfering with your carefully chosen fragrances – a consideration many perfume enthusiasts overlook.Support the showJoin Our Patreon

Jason founded ACCOMPANY to leverage the economic engine of the fashion and lifestyle industry towards positive impact for global communities in need. Jason brings with him 3 key areas of expertise – strategic image-making for global fashion retailers, leadership experience growing a small business, and a passion for applied ethics surrounding the needs of marginalized and exploited communities. Since 2006, Jason has been integral in growing YARD – a strategic image-making agency in New York – and now leads their expansion efforts as Chief Growth Officer. Jason has established and led relationships to strategically craft and design communications platforms, brand identities, multi-channel advertising campaigns and targeted retail promotions across a range of clients in fashion, retail and socially conscious lifestyles, including John Varvatos, Tumi, Kenneth Cole, Perry Ellis, Converse, Timberland, Equinox, Method, Shea Moisture and Smartwater. Simultaneously, while completing an M.S. in Global BioEthics at Columbia University, Jason published in 3 academic journals and in 2 national conferences his research on the under-acknowledged risks of low-income women and the ways in which unregulated fertility markets treat them like commodities. ACCOMPANY is Jason's merger between these disparate pursuits – the fun of growing small businesses, the reward of creating compelling lifestyle brands, and the conviction that vulnerable populations with less opportunity deserve a fair chance at prosperity.

I met John Adams in 1996 through one of my closest friends Toby Poser (Season 1, Episode 12 ATP) who would soon become his wife. John, at that time, was an ex-model, and a punk rocker fronting his band called Banana Fish that performed in bars around Manhattan with John sporting a white g-string (pun definitely intended) – talk about a man unafraid of risks! He was also a cancer survivor. Prior to his diagnosis, he was one of the chosen few men who sat at the apex of the modeling world working with geniuses like John Varvatos, Calvin Klein and Giorgio Armani. Naomi, Linda, Christy and Cindy were “fun and great to work with” as he recalls today. But when that lump appeared on his neck, and the doctors had to cut it out of him to biopsy it, he had to wait from that Thursday to Monday to find out whether he had a chance to live, or whether he was going to die. Today, he describes that waiting game as the hardest part. As he says, “Those days from the day they cut your tumor out 'til they day they tell you what you got, those days are the most terrifying of all. That's where you really gotta dig deep down into your heart and get through every second.” John survived the diagnosis and the devastating lows of chemotherapy. It ended his career. More than the physical havoc cancer visited on his body, it made him realize he wanted more from his life. And more he would get. A wife. Two beautiful kids. A spiraling drug addiction that almost upended everything, and a rising from the ashes that will inspire your soul.At the Podium Website At the Podium on IGPatrick on IGFor more information contact Patrick at patrick@patrickhueyleadership.com

In this week's Omni Talk Fast Five, sponsored by the A&M Consumer and Retail Group, Firework, SPS Commerce, and Sezzle, Chris and Anne: - Called Giant Foods' decision to implement receipt checks and to pull branded merchandise from its shelves a momentous moment in the history of retail. - Enjoyed riffing on the seemingly best frenemies that Shopify and Amazon have become in light of their new Buy With Prime partnership. - Hotly debated Under Armour's hiring of John Varvatos as its new Chief Design Officer (Anne loved it; Chris did not). - Both surprisingly supported JCP's $1 billion turnaround plan. - And closed with a salute and a watch out for Ulta over the recent tripling of its ship-from-store locations. There's all that, plus in-flight biohazards, sex ring code words, and whether Taylor Swift will gross a cool billion at the box office. Kristine Deer grew up as the youngest of three girls in the suburbs of New Jersey in a home with artistic and creative parents, and an “art room” in lieu of a dining room. Her love for fashion and hot yoga started her on the journey to create apparel that was both functional and expressive, initially for herself, and ultimately transforming into a business, K-DEER, known for their iconic bright and colorful striped leggings. Little did Kristine know the community that would grow around K-DEER and the impact that they would have collectively. I used to look at my competition and feel fear and inadequacy. But as I started to grow into my own identity as a business owner, I began looking at it differently. Now I see other similar businesses as sources of motivation. They’ve gone from being my competitors to part of my community. Today, I have the pleasure of interviewing one of them. Key Takeaways Don’t be afraid to get in touch with other similar businesses in your area. This has the possibility of opening up all sorts of new opportunities. It’s not enough to just be good at something. You need to enjoy it as well or else it’s not truly a strength. About Heather Zara Heather Zara is the owner and CEO of Zara Creative, a Detroit-based video production studio that helps forward-thinking brands make meaningful connections with their audiences. As an observer of the human experience, Heather has built her career upon the pillars of creativity and communication while letting her passions and curiosity lead the way. With over 22 years of experience, this award-winning storyteller has interviewed inspiring humans like Martha Stewart, Kobe Bryant, Michael Strahan, John Varvatos, LeBron James, and more. Stories have the power to heal, shape, and transform our lives, and Heather has made it her life’s work to tell those stories. The Transformative Nature of Building Community A lot happens when you stop viewing other video businesses as competition and start to see them as other members of your community. Envy turns into inspiration. You become clearer on what you want from your own business. You also find people to share information, knowledge, and referrals with. Ultimately, the work becomes more fulfilling this way. It’s All About Mindset Heather and I have both found that this is only possible with self-reflection. You need to take the time to look back on your journey, understand where you’ve come from, and evaluate what you’ve learned along the way. This takes a certain amount of humility. It also requires that you be kind to yourself. This is a learning process for everybody. Fortunately, when you have a community that you can turn to, there’s no need to go through it alone. Could your business benefit from having community or competition? How have you learned humility as a business owner? Leave a comment on the episode page! In This Episode: Finding inspiration from your community [6:00] How to reach out to other video companies [14:20] Understanding growth through transformation [18:50] Finding joy through creating meaningful work [27:45] Lessons learned through refining your hiring process [32:25] The two most important qualities of strength [42:20] Quotes “It is so much more freeing when you can look at your community as a catalyst to help you grow.” [8:20] “Any time you feel envy, it’s information. It’s information of the direction you actually want to be going.” [13:27] “I think that being a business owner requires a lot of humility.” [42:21] “Be yourself as much as you possibly can. If being yourself means wearing a leather jacket and ripped jeans in a meeting, great! Go be yourself. Don’t change yourself to fit into this role that you’re telling yourself society needs you to show up as.” [46:26] Links: Sign up for the Client Budget Workshop Join the Studio Sherpas Facebook group Core Storyblocks Find Heather Zara online Follow Heather on Facebook | Twitter | Instagram Everything Belongs by Richard Rohr Capri for Girls Additional Links: Check out the full show notes page Do you have something to share on this podcast? Rodrigo Flores-Roux is the nose behind some of the most popular fragrances you've been spritzed with at the mall (Clinique Happy, John Varvatos, Britney Spears Hidden Fantasy), as well as some of the most celebrated niche, luxury perfumes that he was contractually unable to discuss with us (rhymes with Chom Board). Flores-Roux has been in the scent game since the 1990s, having created probably over 300 perfumes (he lost count). He graciously tells us all about his journey from studying biology in his home country of Mexico, to perfume school in France, and becoming a Master Perfumer at Givadaun, one of the world's most prestigious fragrance houses, here in NYC.

In this episode, Matt talks to the co-founder of Villa One, John Varvatos. Villa One is an ultra-premium, hand-crafted tequila founded by Nick Jonas and John Varvatos. These creatives from the worlds of music and fashion, respectively, came together over a love for tequila and for experiencing “life as it should be,” with friends old and new, one glass at a time. Unlike other tequilas, Villa One sources 100% blue weber agave from both the Highland and Lowland regions of Jalisco, Mexico. This unique combination of agave flavors combines herbaceous, earthy Lowland notes with the sweeter, fruity notes of Highland agave, resulting in a distinct, rounded profile. Villa One is created by Master Distiller Arturo Fuentes, the “Godfather of Tequila,” who has three decades of experience in crafting Fine Cognacs, French Champagne and of course, barrel-aged Tequilas. If you want to try any of the spirits Matt discussed on the show you can ORDER ONLINE or from the BIG RED LIQUORS APP for Curbside Pickup Service. It's as easy as 1,2,3! Start Your Order - bigredliquors.com Simply select your store, browse and search for Villa One Tequila products and start a CURBSIDE order. Your store will notify you when it is ready for pickup. Best of all, our NO TOUCH curbside will leave you with peace of mind and the great products you want ASAP.

It says something about a brand that when you click on the about page on its website to get the backstory on the designer, a YouTube video of her boxing in the center ring at Madison Square Garden pops up. Showing her winning her title fight in front of a sold-out crowd. If nothing else the footage clearly illustrates that designer Nellie Partow knows how to roll with the punches and has no intention of ever being down for the count. Which is a good thing considering that her independent label finds itself in that ambiguous middle ground of no longer being a new brand on the rise nor one that has achieved world domination. Partow, which the designer launched in 2011, is one of those sleeper hit fashion houses. You know the ones I am talking about. The brands whose names you whisper in the ears of only your closest friends when they ask you where you got that amazing relaxed fit purple suit or the dress with architectural pleating on the bodice or strategically placed cut-outs. Partow’s aesthetic is one of modern minimalism. Where the use of color and structural detail work help to elevate the understated foundation to a more refined realm. Nellie’s design approach is perfectly understandable considering that - after graduating from Parsons - and just like with her boxing training, she put in the hours, days, months, and years learning her craft. Working at Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, and John Varvatos for a cumulative 10-year stint before she hung up her own shingle. Her slow but steady wins the race philosophy to fashion has worked well for Nellie. Only three years after launching her brand she found herself making a profit. Something that is almost unheard of in the industry. In 2015 she became a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, AKA the CFDA. And 2019, according to the designer, was her best year yet - as she started to scale up her label adding in new categories to her staple “work as hard as the woman wearing them” designs. Even the pandemic hasn’t stopped her from moving forward with the launch, this month, of an e-commerce component to her website. Just on a technical side note, I did want to let all you listeners know that Nellie and I did our interview over Zoom video. So don’t be surprised by a couple of very minor audio issues and the sound of Nellie’s very friendly dog Mika barking with excitement while we chat. Also if you happen to be more of a visual learner, feel free to head over to my signature YouTube channel to watch the video version of this podcast in action. Now, for all you future fashion designers out there my advice would be to take a page out of Nellie’s playbook. She launched her brand in the wake of the 2008 recession but since then she has continually been punching above her weight to create a knockout brand that has the potential to go all the way.

About Kevin Hundert: Kevin Hundert is currently the Business Development Manager at Ditto.com. The Hundert’s family has been in the industry since the mid ’70s when his grandfather started REM Eyewear, a top manufacturer for the likes of John Varvatos, Converse, Lucky Brand, and more. In 2013, Kevin launched a direct-to-consumer eyewear brand called Made Eyewear. The company featured an at-home-try-on program similar to that of Warby Parker. The eyewear started at $84 and was quality design and material focused at that price point. Kevin hoped to disrupt the traditional store-bought eyewear model since consumers want easier access to products and more reasonable price points on eyewear. Made Eyewear also worked with ECPs, to help bridge the gap of online and in-store. Made ceased its operations, but it was a learning experience that provided Kevin with tremendous knowledge about the online marketplace for eyewear. Today, Kevin works to expand Ditto.com which is a company focused on virtual try-on and frame recommendation technology for eyewear retailers. Anecdotes with insight are an important part of any good conversation, and we certainly heard some wonderful anecdotes from our guests at the OPTIC 2018 Conference. For today’s episode of the B&H Photography Podcast, we have cherry-picked a few stories from our conversations with Brian Smith, Seth Resnick, Vincent Versace, and Simon Lewis and have added a segment, with Panasonic Marketing Manager Darin Pepple, to round out the episode. Brian Smith is a Pulitzer-Prize-winning photographer most recognized for celebrity portraiture, but his work comfortably crosses all genres and his list of awards is impressive, including a World Press Photo Award. He is a Sony Artisan of Imagery, Profoto Legend of Light, Adobe Influencer, and X-Rite Master Coloratti. As a luxury lifestyle, destination, food, architecture, and interior photographer, Simon Lewis also understands that versatility is a crucial component to being a successful freelance photographer and, as his anecdote makes clear, some tenacity helps, too. His clients include Aman Resorts, Amazon, JetBlue, Ralph Lauren, Bon Appetit, Prada, and John Varvatos. Seth Resnick can do it all (I’m seeing a trend) and the graphic nature of his work and bold use of color and form make him in-demand across the editorial, travel, commercial, and fine art photography worlds. Chosen by Photo District News as one of the 30 most influential photographers of the decade, he was an original Canon “Explorer of Light,” consults for Adobe, X-Rite, and Epson, is an Ilford “Master” and is co-founder of D-65, a digital workflow consultancy. A few of our guests’ anecdotes were prompted by Allan’s “rabbit out of a hat” question but, with Vincent Versace, we were captivated and laughing too hard to even get to the question. Versace’s insight on photography comes from a range of disciplines and we learn how acting and some serious common sense influence his work. He is a Nikon Ambassador, recipient of the Smithsonian Award in Media Arts & Entertainment and his photography books, tutorials, and workshops are very popular. After a short break, we speak with Darin Pepple, Consumer Marketing Manager at Panasonic, about Lumix cameras, the evolution of the GH series, and the unique interaction between Lumix photographers and the product developers who continue to improve this innovative camera line. Products mentioned in this episode: Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5S Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera (Body Only) Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH4 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera (Body Only) Guests: Brian Smith, Simon Lewis, Seth Resnick, Vincent Versace, and Darin Pepple Photograph: Seth Resnick

Ralphie Aversa from "Ralphie Tonight" covered radio row and the red carpet for Fashion Rocks at the Barclays Center with Westwood One.
Jesse Malin was born in Queens, New York. Jesse Malin’s passion for music began at an early age. Upon receiving his first nylon stringed acoustic guitar, Jesse taped an old 1950’s reel-to-reel recorder with a beat-up attached microphone to its body and the soon-to-be songwriter began his musical career. Malin began playing live the age of twelve years old in the seminal hardcore band Heart Attack. After the group’s disbandment in 1984, Jesse and his childhood pals formed the rock and roll band D Generation and released three albums, touring the globe several times over before parting ways in 1999. Following several in-between bridge bands, including PCP Highway and Bellvue, Jesse Malin embarked on a solo career and has released five acclaimed records. Over the years Malin has also worked in both film and radio, currently co-hosting a monthly radio show on Sirius XM alongside John Varvatos, and is now completing production on a new album set to be released in 2015.
“If you do something, you’re passionate about it and you give all your energy to make it, it’s going to happen.” Today we’re in the design studio of one of my really good friends who is a super talented Jewelry designer, Maor Cohen. His line is called M Cohen designs; he’s got a couple stores in LA, and is now in demand all over the world. Funny thing for me is that I never really even thought about wearing jewelry until I met Maor a few years back. He gave a sick bracelet to a mutual friend of ours for his birthday, and immediately when I saw it I said, "I’ve got to get me one of those." Shortly there after, I’ve seen him go from making the pieces himself in his living room, to having a beautiful store on third street in West Hollywood. He’s made some amazing pieces for people like Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, and many other big celebrities. More importantly, he’s got an inspiring story of moving from a small town in Israel to LA, barely speaking english, to creating a big business in fashion with a cult following. He’s now doing collaborations with people like John Varvatos and leading the industry in mens jewelry. Not to mention, his accent is awesome! I love the charm and charisma that Maor brings to the table, as its genuinely helped him to connect with people and build his creative business. He is a walking brand. “Be aware that it’s not going to be an easy ride, but never give up.” Some things we learn in this podcast: On designing jewelry for stars like Johnny Depp, Justin Timberlake, Usher and more How he grew up in a small village in Northern Israel Stories and tips for overcoming ADD while growing up How to get started in the Jewelry game: reconstructing Mom's necklaces The path from Israel, to South America and finally to the California surf culture How he sold his first collection to Kitson How to develop from a street artist to a well respected creative entrepreneur The source of Maor’s intense passion for creativity The traveler ethos behind the jewelry and stacking experiences How Maor met and helped Natalia Benson get back into the jewelry design game The value of travel for Maor’s life and his vision Connect with Maor: Instagram | Website
I love talking to Frank because It the kind of stuff you only hear if you were there .Frank Stefanko is a fine art photographer with connections to New Jersey performers Patti Smith and Bruce Springsteen. Stefanko's seminal photographs, taken in the 1960s through the 80s, reveal the emerging careers of the two artists. In Franks own words,Summer of 2012: Danny Clinch and I had a Gallery Show in Stockholm, and Gothenberg, Sweden.*While in Gothenberg, Danny and I were invited to photograph Bruce Springsteen during his performance at Ullevi Stadium. When in Sweden, I hooked up with old friend Willie NIle.Over the last year, I have been asked to contribute my photography to several new books on Bruce ,"Talk About a Dream" by Christopher Phillips and Louis P. Masur ,"Bruce" by Peter Ames Carlin,"Springsteen on Springsteen" by Jeff Burger. Traveled to Kauai, Maine, and Nova Scotia, to do more landscape photographs.I've also started a series called The Swamps of Jersey inspired from "Rosalita" by Bruce Springsteen. There's been said many things are buried and lost in those swamps. The Metropolitan Museum of Art used one of my Patti Smith photographs in their exhibit "Punk: Chaos to Couture" and The Smithsonian is using another Patti Smith photograph in their exhibit catalog at the National Portrait Gallery called "American Cool". John Varvatos is using one of my Patti Smith photographs in his new book "Rock in Fashion.Make sure to tune in!
