This week, Democratic voters in New York elected Zohran Mamdani to be their candidate for the mayoral election in November. Perhaps not surprisingly, the 33-year old's popularity with the younger generations helped to catapult to victory. However, his political platform and campaign processes are giving the traditional elites the fits. Rent freezes? Free public transportation. Free childcare? Government-run grocery stores? Higher taxes for corporations and the so-called 1%? A $30/hour minimum wage? Regulating delivery apps? It is very aggressive and more than a little bit idealistic. The question remains: why do these economically questionable positions appeal to younger voters? In this week's Trading Perspectives, Sam Clement and John Norris discuss the recent mayoral primaries in New York, and analyze the winner's appeal to younger voters. The title is an allusion to a famous headline in New York during the Ford Administration….when Gerald Ford essentially blocked a financial bailout for the city.
Bobby found out that there are certain cities that will pay YOU to move there. Lunchbox lied about his past and we called him out on it. Bobby shared a list of crazy money stories that involve someone got paid millions by accident at work, a man who swallowed $770k in jewelry and how much we are all spending on subscriptions without realizing it. We discussed a new study that found people who have a lot of nightmares are more likely to DROP DEAD. Bobby found someone from his late-mother that he has never seen before. We also talked about Taylor Swift’s pop up performance in Nashville and why the Liver King got arrested.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Today, Ali and Asif, after a digression about Paris restaurants and Reddit trolls, discuss the career of Bill Burr (7:33). They discuss his early life, starting out in comedy, his Philly rant and his podcast. They then discuss his television cartoon ‘F is for Family' and his acting roles, his film ‘Old Dads' including his recent broadway turn in ‘Glengarry Glen Ross'. They then discuss Burr's standup style, whether comedians can be “happy and funny”, and Burr's recent special ‘Drop Dead Years'. They then (under duress) discuss the recent interview which Howie Mandel conducted with Bill Burr, where Mandel brings out Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins) who is allegedly Burr's half-brother. Based on some topics brought up in his special, the guys discuss sudden cardiac death (SCD) (50:44). Asif starts off by differentiating between heart attacks, sudden cardiac arrest and sudden cardiac death. He then goes over how common it is and the major causes. Asif differentiates how the causes of SCD differ between young people and middle aged people. He then goes over the prognosis and first aid treatment if someone you know has a suspected sudden cardiac arrest. Sometimes, it's hard to keep track of the wild policy swings that are the signatures of the second Trump administration. Renowned writer Dot Voline, aka Lady Death, isn't dead - yet. But journalist Nadine jumped the gun by publishing a plagiarized obit stating so and all hell broke loose. Rival journalist, and old classmate Wes, is also following this story and more so since Dot isn't actually dead. As competitors then and now, Nadine and Wes are only allowed to spend a very limited time with Dot, who has become invested in their real-life-enemies-to-lovers situation. After finding pretty much nothing out during their limited time before Dot actually dies, the pair stay in Lady Death's estate for 3 weeks to uncover clues regarding her life, her stories, and a political scandal that is dying to come to light. Join us as we venture through this old lady's wacky house with two people who are obviously going to put their differences aside, solve the mystery of Dot's story, and fall in love. ***We would love and appreciate it if you could subscribe, rate & review! On October 29, 1975, President Gerald Ford walked into a press conference at the National Press Club and, using more precise, more eloquent words than legend remembers, but in no uncertain terms, told New York City that the federal government was not going to bail it out.The following day the New York Daily News -- the city's first tabloid newspaper summarized his blunt, castigating speech into one succinct and memorable headline -- FORD TO CITY: DROP DEAD.Of course, the president never literally said DROP DEAD. But his words did signal the severity of New York City's problem -- the city was on the brink of bankruptcy. In this episode, Greg dives into life in New York City during the year 1975 and the circumstances surrounding its most dire financial crisis, one which threatened the livelihoods of its millions of residents and damaged New York City's reputation for decades.Directors Peter Yost and Michael Rohatyn join Greg to discuss their new film on the New York financial crisis Drop Dead City, which uses gritty archival footage and a series of special guests (such as Harrison J. Goldin, Charlie Rangel, Betsy Gotbaum and former Bowery Boys guest Kevin Baker) to explain this complicated story. If Michael's name looks familiar, that's because his father Felix Rohatyn played a critical role in bailing out the bankrupt city.Visit the website for more informationMore information on DROP DEAD CITY here
'Drop Dead City' is a deeply researched history of New York's financial crisis in the mid-70s. Filmmakers Peter Yost and Michael Rohatyn interview a wide range of people who were involved at many levels.

On this episode of March Forth with Mike Bauman, Mike chats with Barry Donegan! Hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, Barry is a personal trainer and vocalist of Look What I Did. Established in 2001, Look What I Did is a genre-clashing, high energy band from the Music City that's toured with everybody from the likes of Drop Dead, Gorgeous, to Folly, to The Human Abstract, among others. Nearly two-and-half decades since the band's inception, Barry and Look What I Did are as energized as they've ever been. With musical elements ranging from mathcore, to metal, to pop, to punk, to post hardcore and more, the band's live show intensity and musicianship is hard to match. In this episode, Barry talks with Mike about growing up as a young rebel with a DJ dad in 80s Nashville, seeing Ozzy and Alice In Chains at a young age, his love for music, the adventurous musical journey of Look What I Did, booking and hanging with Mastodon in their early days, the importance of challenging yourself and bathing in discomfort, staying physically fit and getting stronger as he gets older, basketball's life lessons that also translate to his onstage confidence, being a sneakerhead with taste, and more. This episode also features the song "Is, Was, And Will Be" off the album Minuteman For The Moment from Look What I Did, available where you get your music! Follow Barry on Instagram @barrydonegan. Their serendipitous connection blossomed into a poignant mission to reshape our discussions around well-being, trauma, and the healing journey. Gaby opens up about the money behind being a freelance writer, how she experienced sex shame growing up as a Catholic Latin, and the transformative effects that the Hoffman Process had on her mental health. Meadow lets us in on growing up in an extremely sex-positive family, her early experiences with grief, and how microdosing mushrooms helped her anxiety. Tune in for an engaging conversation where the celebration of our individual and collective journeys reminds us of the beauty in simply being ourselves.
