A story that began 13 years ago on an island off Newfoundland had another chapter written yesterday in Spillane’s Bar and Restaurant in Castlegregory. It was there that Brad and Anita Squires, who wrote a message in a bottle and threw it into the sea off Bell Island, got to meet the couple who found the bottle, Jon and Kate Gay, as well as the community. Jerry went there to catch up with the Canadians, now married with children and talk to them about the journey the message in the bottle has taken them on.

Get ready to go underground—literally—because this episode digs into some seriously spooky mining tales that prove the earth's not just full of rocks, but secrets, ghosts, and maybe a few otherworldly knuckleheads. From the mischievous Tommyknockers who knock on walls like ghostly miners-on-call, to eerie faces appearing on Spanish kitchen floors (because who doesn't want a haunted concrete countertop?), and the Freiberg Shrieker—a winged, scream-machine saving miners from fiery doom. We also strike gold with the cursed Lost Dutchman Mine, where treasure hunters meet ghosts, madness, or worse. Don't forget Bell Island's haunted mines, Cold War conspiracies, and a boom loud enough to wake the dead—or maybe just attract some international spy attention. As always, like, follow, share just like Richard Doty would want you to, or wouldn't want you to whatever makes you want to do it more

Bell Island, Newfoundland is said to be one of Canada's most haunted places, with more than its share of tragic deaths and mysterious phenomena. But one story stands out above the rest. "Taste what I tasted. Smell what I smelled." These are the haunting words of the Ghost of Dobbin's Garden, more commonly known today as the Swamp Hag of Bell Island. Said to be the restless spirit of a woman who died tragically, she is doomed to roam the island forever, looking for victims to share in her torment. SCARED TO DEATH IS EXPLICIT IN EVERY WAY. PLEASE TAKE CARE WHILE LISTENING. Dan's  first story is really three stories mixed with some local lore. First, after going over the kinds of paranormal encounters most often reported from people visiting Virginia's Braley, we explore the story of a murder that took place that that has added to its reputation as a paranormal hotspot. Then, we'll go over what an area ghost hunter claims happened to them there. And finally, a young woman's terrifying modern encounter claim.  After that, we'll be off to Canada to cover a whole bunch of lore associated with numerous sightings of a night hag in Newfoundland. Lynze shares just one big story this week about a less scary but rather helpful spiritual hitchhiker!  New Merch:  The official merch for our 3rd annual Haunted Halloween Show is here! VERY cool and creepy illustration from Logan depicting a ghostlike face screaming in terror.  You can also grab tickets to our October 13th event at  badmagicmerch.com Bad Magic Productions Monthly Patreon Donation: This month, we are headed to camp! And with that, we work hand in hand with the host camp, Camp No Counselors, to seek a worthy camp related non profit. We landed on Morry's Camp, also known as Project Morry. Project Morry was born out of summer camp pioneer Morry Stein's dream that all children, regardless of economic status, should experience the life-changing gift of summer camp. Beginning as a summer camp experience, Project Morry has grown into a comprehensive year-round youth development organization, with Morry's Camp still at the heart of our program. What I love about this non profit is that the support for under served children does not stop at summer camp. Project Morry is committed to closing opportunity gaps that exist in our community and working to ensure young people from under-resourced communities graduate high school ready for college, careers and life.  The bartenders at Wet Hot Bad Magic Summer camp are joining us by committing to donating 100% of their tips to Project Morry as well so our total for this month will be announced later. 224# The Bell Island Boom | Extra-terrestrial or natural phenomenon On Sunday, April 2, 1978, a huge bang was heard at Bell Island just before noon. The bang was so loud that people reported hearing it as far as 100 km away. The blast sent a shock wave that shook buildings on the island and killed some animals. The energy release was so powerful that the Vela satellites (which the US government used to detect nuclear tests by other powers) noticed the phenomenon, now known as the Bell Island Boom. There are many strange stories that come to us from Canada. When the early Irish settlers came to Newfoundland they also left part of their legends with the locals. People in that region had experiences with fairies and passed down stories involving these little flying creatures that looked like almost like fireflies. Member Adam Stone comes on the show to tell about his family's history on Bell Island and more. This part of the world has stories about everything from Bigfoot to little mischievous creatures that supposedly abducted children. The eastern most tip of north America is very blurry.
