I will spend some time talking to Linda Hickey. Who is Linda Hickey you ask? Glad you did. Linda wears many hats. She is manager of Engagement & Development for Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador. President of Creative Cultural Experiences and Performance Coordinator for Hamilton Sound which btw is performing tonight at St. Michael's Parish on Bell Island with the GOAT, Bud Davidge for their Christmas From Our Hearts show. Linda also is President of the Bell Island Heritage Society #2 Mine Tour and Museum. Oh and a songwriter with a song called ”The Whistle Don't Blow (The Bell Island Miners Song). So ya, that was a mouthful to type out. I am looking forward to talking to Linda about what she does as well as some Christmas traditions she did as a child growing up in Newfoundland. All this plus new and classic Newfoundland Christmas music plus more of the best Newfoundland music this side of the St. Lawrence. Monday nights live online at 8:00PM ET on www.CKWR.com

There are many strange stories that come to us from Canada. When the early Irish settlers came to Newfoundland they also left part of their legends with the locals. People in that region had experiences with fairies and passed down stories involving these little flying creatures that looked like almost like fireflies. Member Adam Stone comes on the show to tell about his family's history on Bell Island and more. Canada's Newfoundland and Labrador's Bell Island is rich in three commodities: iron ore, storytellers, and things that go bump in the night. The thirty-four-square-kilometre windswept rock is home to just over three thousand inhabitants. Situated near St. John's, the supposedly haunted isle is accessible only by ferry. Some locals claim it's a place where the dead — and worse — mingle openly with the living. "FAIRIES" and a dead old hag haunt this strange, mysterious island, and don't forget the Irish and Scottish they haunt each other with their fists..  “This is the most haunted island in North America,” said Henry Crane, chair of Tourism Bell Island, which offers a guided “Ghosts of Bell Island” sunset walking tour.

Neil Burgess has a Masters in Science and works as a wildlife biologist for the federal government. In his spare time, he pursues his passion for learning more about shipwrecks in this province. With friends, he established the Shipwreck Preservation Society of Newfoundland & Labrador five years ago. The aim of the Shipwreck Society is to document, protect and promote awareness of shipwrecks and nautical history across the province. The Society is currently working with the Bell Island Heritage Society to create a virtual museum exhibit online on the U-boat attacks at Bell Island in 1942 and the sinking of four ore ships. If you or someone you know has memories, stories, or photos of the Bell Island U-boat attacks, you can share them with the Shipwreck Preservation Society through their Facebook page or on their website.
