The federal riding of Bonavista-Burin-Trinity stretches from Conception Bay to Gander Bay and most points in-between. It's about to be renamed as Terra Nova-The Peninsulas, and will now include the east side of Placentia Bay. We wanted to learn what's important to people in the massive rural riding. Troy Turner has been travelling throughout, and he joined us from our Gander studio.

75 years after the people of Harbour Grace said "no" to Confederation, Joey Smallwood is giving it another try, and Peter Cashin is ready to shout him down. They're both back in Harbour Grace, or that's what everyone will be invited to imagine, when they gather at the Conception Bay Museum at noon. Pat Collins will play the role of Smallwood, and make his pitch to the audience. Among the crowd will be a sworn enemy of Confederation, Peter Cashin, as played by Dave Moriarity. Today both of them joined us on the line to give us a preview of their upcoming battle.

Bell Island, in Newfoundland's Conception Bay, is full of mystery. Once home to an immense iron ore mine, the community drew people from all over the world. Over the years its been home to many strange sightings, happenings and unexplained events. It has even been called one of the most haunted islands in North America. This episode scratches the surface of some of Bell Island's lore starting with a giant squid attack off the island's coast, then a conversation with some paranormal investigators — the people behind the new T+E series History's Most Haunted — who recently visited Bell Island. History's Most Haunted follows paranormal experts Corine Carey, Leanne Sallenback and Kelly Ireland as they travel across North America meeting with those who have come face-to-face with the unknown. The series features an episode dedicated to Bell Island including dramatizations of eyewitness accounts and local history provided by experts, historians and citizens of the island. The series debuts on September 8, 2023, 11:30pm NT. The episode closes with the segment ‘Monstrous Things' exploring a sea monster sighting off Fortune Harbour in the late 19th century. "DUANE ANDREWS‘ music is the product of a great ear, an adventurous spirit and a love of music that is beyond category. Uniting what would seem to be impossible – traditional Newfoundland music with the swing jazz of the legendary Django Reinhardt, Andrews makes it not just work – he makes it soar. The Juno award winning producer, composer, guitarist and international performer’s latest album, Conception Bay, is the best evidence yet of his truly unique musical vision and is the sound of him, literally, bringing it all back home." -- www.duaneandrews.ca Here, I check in with Duane (out of St. John's, Newfoundland) and discuss Duane's key influences (including Django Reinhardt), his work with Juno Award winning trio - The Swinging Belles - and his views on the present state of the famously vibrant downtown St. John's music scene. Very sincerely and take care, Anthony www.tootontalk.com
