Meet Katharine Berkoff; from the 59802 all the way to the Paris Olympics, we get her full story of growing up in Missoula, when she found her passion for swimming, and a behind the scenes look at her experience at the 2024 games. Follow Katharine's journey: https://www.instagram.com/katharineberkoff
Katharine Berkoff secured her spot in Olympic history by contributing to a USA 2-3 finish in the women's 100 back, earning a bronze medal with her third-place finish. The 25x NCAA All-American also earned Olympic gold as a member of the 400 medley relay prelims team. For Katharine, making her first Olympic team was a generational accomplishment, as her father, David Berkoff, was not only her inspiration growing up but also an Olympic swimmer in his own right. After the Paris Games, father and daughter got the Olympic rings tattooed on them.
Swimming needs a little personality and World Championship medalist Katharine Berkoff is happy to provide it. With arguably the funniest walkout video at Worlds, Katherine Berkoff likely distracted a few competitors from what they should be focusing on - her ridiculous backstroke speed. With a lineage of underwater prowess, her infamous dad David Berkoff literally changing backstroke and swimming forever with his legendary “Berkoff blastoff,” Katharine Berkoff is taking the family name to new heights as the former NCAA record holder and first woman under 49 seconds in the 100yd backstroke takes aim at an Olympic berth in Paris and more medals for Team USA in what perhaps will be the most competitive event at the USA Olympic Trials in Indianapolis in 2024. Katharine Berkoff is a riot. Enjoy!
This week we talk about rest including what rest is, what counts as rest and how often you should rest. I also go into depth about some of the symptoms of overtraining (which in my experience is actually pretty common in pole dancer!) the fitness/fatigue model. Bruce Berkoff is one of that rare breed of scientist marketers who enjoys the discovery almost as much as he enjoys telling people about it. And as CMO of Lightsense Technology, his job is to spread the word about the crowdfund for his company's miniature, handheld spectrometer platforms that are helping solve some major problems in public health, including detecting opioids, viral pathogens, and bacterial pathogens. We talk about his extensive expertise in physics, biophysics, and business development, raising his kids in Korea, and the mud puddle that sent him westward. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/successfully-funded/message
We continue to look into the Doctrines of Grace tonight and will begin our study on the doctrine of Election. The first thing I want to do, and this will be the message tonight, is to look at God's Decree. --The Lord God is sovereign, and does as He pleases, whenever He pleases. Any right view of salvation, must take that as the overarching theme. Berkoff said, --God- has sovereignly determined from all eternity whatsoever will come to pass, and works His sovereign will in His entire creation, both natural and spiritual, according to His pre-determined plan.-
Designing and creating extraordinary gardens for a living is not what Lucy Berkoff started out doing. But more than 6 years ago, when her youngest child was just a toddler, she launched her business after a friend hired her to do what she always loved. Previously a designer at Waterworks before taking a career pause to raise her 4 children, now Lucy creates visually stunning and ecologically balanced gardens that are popular with her community in Rye, NY. She also has a massive following on social media, which grew exponentially during the pandemic. This week's episode focuses on returning to a passion you've always had but never thought could be profitable, balancing a career and motherhood, growing a social media presence at any age, and more!

Day 3 had A LOT of excitement and perhaps the Swim of the Year! Michigan’s Maggie MacNeil torched a 48.89 100 Butterfly to become the first woman ever to break the 49-second barrier and bring home Michigan’s first NCAA Title in the event. NC State solidifies their spot in 2nd place behind Virginia after a trio of NCAA championships to bring home to Raleigh. Sophie Hansson got things going by winning the 100 Breast (57.23) and was followed up by Katherine Berkoff in the 100 Backstroke (49.74) for NC State’s second win of the night. To close out the evening, the quartet of Berkoff, Hansson, Rowe, and Alons took down Virginia in a wire-to-wire victory in the 200 Medley Relay (1:33.18). At DII NCAA’s Queens holds a comfortable lead on both the men’s and women’s sides and we will see if they can close it out for the win on Day 4.

After graduating with her Doctor of Law from Hofstra University, Leslie completed two clerkships with federal judges and went on to Moritt Hock & Hamroff, where she has practiced for more than 25 years. She also serves on the American Arbitration Association's National Roster of Arbitrators and the Second Circuit United States Court of Appeals Pro Bono Appellate Mediation Panel. In this episode… When it comes to developing client business, more often than not, lawyers find themselves struggling. Most aren't taught the business of law during their studies, and there is typically a schism between lawyers who prefer to carry on with their practice traditionally versus those who want to actively work on business development within their firm. But, what if the secret to finding—and retaining—clients isn't as difficult as it seems? For Leslie Berkoff, the strategy is simple: foster a collaborative and genuine relationship with your clients and colleagues. So, what is Leslie's advice to lawyers who want to become successful rainmakers in their industry? Join us as we kick off our special Women Rainmakers series with Leslie Berkoff, Partner at Moritt Hock & Hamroff. In this episode, Elise Holtzman sits down with Leslie to talk about her strategies for maximizing business development. Together, they discuss Leslie's experience practicing at the same firm for more than 25 years, the importance of building a culture both internally and externally, and her success as a rainmaker. Stay with us!

This is a recording from the Academy of Ideas Arts and Society Forum on Thursday 28 May 2020. The session title was: The shock of the old in Steven Berkoff’s ‘Greek‘ (bit.ly/3fCg1HO) In this third event in the series Ask an Artist: What makes art work? playwright Patrick Marmion talks about the inspiration he took from Stephen Berkoff’s play, based on the Oedipus myth. Patrick writes: “When I first saw Stephen Berkoff’s Greek as a student back in the Eighties at the Edinburgh Festival it blew my head off. I had no idea you could write like this. It never occurred to me you could use language in this way. Its combination of cod Shakespeare and flamboyant cockney vernacular infused with pungently sexual imagery was ravishingly intoxicating. I made it my task to read everything Berkoff had written and I went on to write my dissertation on the man and his theatre. “Years have passed and in some ways I might have grown out of this play, but what’s stuck is not just my love of the language which seems almost to spring direct from the body, but also a kind of Dionysian or Rabelaisian obscenity that is joyful and releases us from the po-faced moralism that we’ve come to associate with Aristotle’s more hygienic idea of tragedy. “Berkoff has become more attractive to me than ever in some ways. A notoriously difficult man himself who has been accused of all sorts of sexual transgression, there are aspects of his writing which are gloriously uncomfortable for today’s audiences. And yet with all the repressive puritanism that’s accompanied the counter revolution against the liberalism of the Sixties and Seventies, too many writers have lost touch with their creative libidos and we have grown accustomed to a theatre that is led by bloodless, neutered moralists.” Please note, as this is a recording of live, online public meeting, the audio is at times less than perfect. Since the 1990s, playwright and actor Steven Berkoff has been traveling the world performing a one-actor show called "Shakespeare’s Villains." It’s fitting, coming from the actor perhaps best known for playing Beverly Hills Cop’s Victor Maitland, that Berkoff promotes the show’s examination of Iago, Shylock, Richard III, the Macbeths, and others as “A Master Class in Evil.” Now, Berkoff has made a film of his performance. With additional material from "Henry V," it’s called "Shakespeare’s Heroes and Villains." We invited Steven Berkoff in to give us his thoughts on what Shakespeare’s villains have in common and why they hold such an enduring appeal. Berkoff is interviewed by Barbara Bogaev. From the "Shakespeare Unlimited" podcast series. Published September 4, 2018. © Folger Shakespeare Library. All rights reserved. This podcast episode, “I Am Alone the Villain of the Earth,” was produced by Richard Paul. Garland Scott is the associate producer. It was edited by Gail Kern Paster and Esther Ferington. Ben Lauer is the web producer.

"There are soldiers all over my house and I'm in my pants." Not what happened during the recording of this podcast episode but a mildly diverting moment from The Power of Three - something of an oasis, some might say. Yes, this is the story of the boring slow invasion. The Doctor's bored, Rory's out of washing powder, Amy sniffs some milk and Brian spends hours sitting around watching the box. Never fear - maybe Kate Stewart's drone (voice, not military hardware) and a half-baked, blink-and-you'll-miss-him hologram will liven things up? And maybe they won't. But who (and why) are the grill-faced nurses? Does the little girl who lives full-time in Rory's waiting room now have squatters' rights? And does having carked it for half an hour count as a near death experience? Listen in to hear Jim and Martin tackle all these questions - and a serious attack of ennui.
