Grief can feel crushing. How do we begin to take the steps to move through the pain we encounter? How do we help others who are experiencing loss? Author Beth Marshall has felt the pangs of loss in her life. In one season, she lost three family members and began to wonder if the feelings she was experiencing were normal. Wondering if she could ever love her life again, Beth began taking some practical steps towards healing. It was through that journey that she began to learn from herself and others what was most helpful when people were walking through grief. It was those lessons that became the message of her latest book, Uncrushed. In this conversation, Davey sits down with Beth and talks about how we can begin to track God's faithfulness in the moments where He seems absent, how to find the support you need when you are hurting, and practical ways to love those who are walking through loss. If you are grieving or if you know someone who is, this episode will give you helpful wisdom on how to get through grief and find hope in the midst of it.   Website: https://bethgmarshall.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GriefSurvivor/ Book: Uncrushed: Real Steps for Healing your Grief and Restoring your Joy https://a.co/d/5ramA8z Episode 57: https://www.nothingiswasted.com/podcast1/episode-57?rq=beth Are you a pastor or church leader who wants to see redemptive healing take place in your church? Welcome to the new episode of the Testing Peers. On this episode, the peers talk about experience with moving onto new opportunities. For this we had a special extended panel, joining Chris, David and Simon were Beth Marshall and Samuel Nitsche. For the banter, Chris asks us about any new equipment we've received when joining a new role which didn't work for us, we discuss everything from ergonomic mice for Left Handers, old monitors, CEOs cleaning our desks for us. This lead us onto leaving jobs too and stories around this. The main discussion starts with Chris asking what makes us decide to leave a job. This covered reasons such as not feeling like providing value, having more bad days than good, changes of leadership, toxic environments and frustration of not doing what you were brought in to do.Simon asks whether anyone has just been offered something so great that they have jumped ship, there is a general consensus that it isn't very often the case and that often all isn't what it seems. Beth then talks about her job hunting (and now securing) experience. What are your experiences with the job hunt and also what are the reasons you have left companies in the past?We hope you found the discussion useful and would love to hear your feedback.ContactUs@TestingPeers.comTwitter (https://twitter.com/testingpeers)LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/company/testing-peers)Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/testingpeers/)Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/TestingPeers)We're also now on GoodPods, check it out via the mobile app storesIf you like what we do and are able to, please visit our Patreon to explore how you could support us going forwards: https://www.patreon.com/testingpeersSaffron QA is a provider of recruitment and consultancy services, exclusively for the software testing industry. You can find out more at https://saffronqa.co.uk/  or on LinkedIn Support the show

You can find show notes for Episode 154 at https://transformingmission.org/podcast Thoughtfulness comes in many forms. It can take the form of a text message to check-in, an extra 15 minutes on a telephone call, or doing something to help someone.  Mother Teresa said, “Thoughtfulness is the beginning of great sanctity. If you learn this art of being thoughtful, you will become more and more Christ-like, for his heart was meek and he always thought of others. Our vocation, to be beautiful, must be full of thought for others.” On this journey of becoming more and more Christ-like, you’re invited to be full of thought for others.  This week, you’ll experience this thoughtfulness in Beth Marshall. She shares how her Intellection talent theme guides her toward deepening relationships with others. You’ll hear examples of meeting people where they are and the importance of listening.  Want to build thoughtful relationships with others? Start by listening.  Clifton Strengths Mentioned in this Episode Ideation - People exceptionally talented in the Ideation theme are fascinated by ideas. They are able to find connections between seemingly disparate phenomena. Intellection - People exceptionally talented in the Intellection theme are characterized by their intellectual activity. They are introspective and appreciate intellectual discussions. Learner - People exceptionally talented in the Learner theme have a great desire to learn and want to continuously improve. The process of learning, rather than the outcome, excites them. Input - People exceptionally talented in the Input theme have a need to collect and archive. They may accumulate information, ideas, artifacts, or even relationships. Connectedness - People exceptionally talented in the Connectedness theme have faith in the links among all things. They believe there are few coincidences and that almost every event has meaning. Weekly Questions: This week comes with a challenge and then a question, followed by another question. Keep reading, it will make sense after you do. 1. Here’s the challenge: as you ask someone a question, the challenge is to reframe that question.  No, this isn’t a mindless exercise to reframe the question just for the sake of reframing it or playing a language game with yourself. The challenge is an invitation to pause and reflect. Give thought to how you might reframe the question so that someone might hear it differently in that first attempt to ask the question. 2. The second one is actually a question. How or where do you do your best thinking?  And once you've identified that, here's the challenge: I want you to give yourself a gift this week. What’s the gift? The gift of time. Now, I know that this is a season that there are more things on the to-do list than normal and time is one of the things that you can’t multiply. But, giving yourself the time on your calendar to actually pause and do some of your best thinking is a gift.  We're coming to the end of the year. And so you might think about what you celebrate this year? You might think about what are you looking forward to in the coming year? Or what goals are you setting for 2021? (Yes, I just modeled for you the first challenge.)  These are just examples. You may have something else that you need to do some deep thinking about - go for it! The invitation is simply to give yourself the gift of the time to do that deep thinking this week.  Mentioned in this episode The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown The Goodness of God by Bethel Music Buy the mp3 Proverbs 3:5-6

Losing someone we love is one of the hardest things any of us will ever go through, and it's nearly impossible to know how to handle it. There is no manual for grief. But the story doesn't end in sorrow. We mourn, but we don't mourn like those who have no hope. Beth Marshall experience this pain when her mother passed away very suddenly. Now she sits down with Davey to talk about walking with God through grief, and how how she's made it her mission to help others do the same.
