With the move to hybrid and blended learning environments, collaboration and co-creation can now occur across multiple mediums. Yet many teachers are still designing learning experiences confined to the classroom. How might we leverage digital tools to co-create deep and meaningful learning experiences that allow learners to collaborate and build anytime, anywhere? In this interview, 'Miss Betzy,' Innovations and Instructional Coach at Decroly International School teaches us how to: Design empowering hybrid learning experiences Make the online space more collaborative Provide student voice/choice in what they create, and how they are assessed Develop virtual and alternative reality (VR/AR) environments for learners to design in Use simple tools for students to evaluate their work Make mundane academic content COME TO LIFE! Learn more and connect with Betzy on Twitter, and LinkedIn, or get simple free tools via her website: https://geg.gt/. Register for Betzy and Kyle's presentation on using Co-Spaces to create collaborative hybrid learning environments! Betzy's Bio: Miss Betsy, as she loves to be called, has enjoyed the wonderful journey in education for about 22 years. She really loves sharing her experiences in teaching and learning with other educators and that is why she is now the High School Innovation teacher and Instructional Coach. She also leads a Google Educator Group, the first one in her country, which gives her the opportunity to share, learn, inspire and empower more educators in Latin America. Betzy discovered how meaningful and transforming PBL can be and has committed to learn more about it and accompany other teachers in creating engaging learning experiences through it. Betzy is also a CoSpaces ambassador and is certain that Virtual Reality is a great complement in PBL. She would love for you to support the #NotGoingBack campaign since she believes that the pandemic and remote learning left valuable lessons and skills that teachers in their classrooms must continue harvesting.

Run or lose everything. At 9, Betzy's future relied on one thing... running. She had to run to keep up with her mom, run to be with her sister, run to see her dad again. She had to run! Betzy is 1 of 800,000 DACA recipients. For years, she kept her family’s immigration story a secret. However, given the narrative around immigrants she knew had to share, she had to put a HUMAN face to the word immigrant. Join us as she shares her story.
You're listening to episode number 89. Round Table Talk: DACA- Dreamers and Immigration- What’s at Stake? In this episode I get to talk in the round table setting with The We Spot leaders, Amy Norris and Heather Williams, and our guest Betzy Valdez. Betzy is originally from Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico, she came to the United States with her family 22 years ago, chasing the well-known “American Dream”. Greeley, Colorado is where her and her family have resided over the past 22 years and it's a place, she calls home. She has been married for 11 years and has three little girls. She is the founder of B. Empowered, a space created to encourage others to be the change, to be empowered to be the world-changers, the difference-makers, the heart-changers.Through Betzy's own journey, she continues to be brave by sharing her story, her truths, her mess. Instead of allowing setbacks in her life to hold her back, she is determined to use her mess as her message of hope, strength and belonging. Her calling in life in to encourage and empower others in their own journey, regardless of color, race, religion, or legal status. She believes we must all have a vision, not division.Betzy plans to continue her journey as an empowerment and motivational speaker as well as an active community volunteer, leader and advocate for immigrant and refugee rights. She is also passionate about creating empowered leaders in order to serve and transform.Updates:We talk in this episode about DACA, what's been happening with DACA, and how it effects those who are Dreamers. Since recording this episode there have been a few changes. According to the Immigrants Rising organization, despite the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to reinstated DACA to its original 2012 form, The Trump Administration has since announced changes to the program. The Trump Administration has been sued for this move to subvert the Supreme Court's decision on the DACA program. Betzy Sanchez Valdez of “Be Empowered” joins us today, to share her story of coming to America as an undocumented immigrant, and the power of authenticity through the sharing of our deepest stories. As long as we are wearing masks, people cannot see our authentic selves. And if we’re not willing to expose our vulnerability, true connection will be stifled. And isn’t authentic connection what we are all searching for? Contact Betzy at: betzys970@hotmail.com
Welcome Betzy Valdez of @bempowereddreamer to Episode 92 of the @immigrationmicpodcast! Betzy is a DACA recipient from Central Mexico whose family immigrated to Colorado for a better life for their family; her sister was born with bilateral microtia and needed specialized care. Growing up, Betzy hid her good grades and intelligence to fit in, and similarly, she was uncomfortable with immigration conversations because she felt it would bring up her immigration status. 9/11 marked an important moment for her; she felt it became a hopeless situation to find relief for her immigration status or to obtain residency. She talks about her life transitions: getting married at 19, having her first child at 20, and how her three daughters motivate her to push forward. Betzy describes her inner struggles being undocumented in high school, and how after DACA in 2012, she was able to go back to school, and is working towards her associates degree; her way of going after the American Dream. We talk about the 2016 election, and how Betzy was crushed by DACA being ended in 2017 - and how she fought against the negativity during that time, and didn’t let it defeat her. She tells the story of when she unexpectedly first told her story at a networking event, and the fateful moment that she knew she was destined to tell her story to empower herself and others.
Reporter: Halfdan Bleken

This class was recorded at the superb event: The Great Lakes Herb Faire. If you've not been and you're in the region, I encourage you to try and make it to the 2018 shindig. Here's the details: Great Lakes Herb Faire September 7 - 9, 2018 Cedar Lake Outdoor Center, 2500 Pierce Rd, Chelsea, Michigan "We have had three amazing Faires so far and are so looking forward to doing this again! The feedback we received from people who attended was overwhelmingly positive. People were excited to network and meet other herbalists in their communities, learn directly from teachers rather than relying on books, and walk the trails on the surrounding land meeting the herbs in person. There were many kids attending and we heard from parents and the kids themselves that they couldn't wait to come back next year! There was amazing energy from everyone, the food was delicious and the marketplace was loaded with fantastic herbal creations." - Anna Fernandez I had the great fortune of attending the 2017 Faire (as a representative for Mountain Rose Herbs) and I concur on all of that. And yes, the food was phenomenal! If interested in purchasing recordings from the 2016 and 2017 Faires (for a great price) you can do so here>> RECORDINGS I also ended up going on this epic plant walk with Betzy Bancroft! Thanks to Anna and Betzy for letting me share it on the HerbRally podcast. I hope y'all enjoy it! I think it's fun to listen to plant walks personally. Especially as we head into the winter. Takes me back to that beautiful September day in Michigan :) Here's the description for the walk from the website: Developing a deep understanding of a few common weeds helps us save the native and less common species for special needs. On this walk we’ll include discussion of the abundance or ecological concerns of the herbs we meet, in addition to the medicinal and edible uses. And probably spend a lot of time on a few common weeds . . . . LIKE THE GREAT LAKES HERB FAIRE ON FACEBOOK A little bit about Betzy... When my good friend Mark worked at Tom Brown’s Tracker School, he often talked about a great herbalist who worked there named Betzy. Now, I finally get to meet her! She is an accomplished herbalist in many areas, and she is currently working with United Plant Savers! United Plant Savers’ mission is to protect native medicinal plants of the United States and Canada and their native habitat while ensuring an abundant renewable supply of medicinal plants for generations to come. I ask Betzy all about sustainable and ethical wildcrafting, her journey as an herbalist, and other practical tips and skills for collecting and storing herbs.

Poetryizme and Betzy Hughes are proud to present to you Lizh a Singer/songwriter Lizh and her band which have a unique approach to music. Have your glasses ready and a excited pallet to enjoy a glass of her distinctive unique sound. It's a wonderful blend of occasional stanzas of Spoken Word, a Reggaeton rhythm here and there."If it feels good and sounds good, who cares what you call it?" With Lizh's power house vocals, distinctive songwriting and the band's uncanny ability to capture a "melting pot" sound, they make genre-hopping feel completely natural.
