Joanna Coles speaks with Rep. Maxwell Frost about the hate crime assault he was a victim of at the Sundance Film Festival—and why he says it's part of a much darker national pattern tied to political rhetoric, emboldened extremists, and a collapse of accountability in Washington. Rep. Frost describes how GOP lawmakers acquiesce to Trump and remain silent out of terror of primaries, retaliation, or being singled out by the president. He argues that this spinelessness has real-world consequences, linking escalating political violence, authoritarian instincts, and a system increasingly warped by greed and profiteering. As Frost warns that democracy itself is under threat, the question lingers: will Republicans ever find the backbone to stand up to Trump—and what happens if they don't? Hosted on Acast. Despite the inaction of the Democratic Party leadership, the consensus among the base of the Democratic Party is for the U.S. government to end its support of Israel's efforts to commit genocide in Palestine. Listen as Aaron and Damien discuss the piece “Democratic Leadership Still Hasn't Caught Up to the Party's Base on Gaza” by Stephen Zunes in In These Times, which explores and analyzes the growing calls for the end of U.S. support for Israel among Democratic voters in the face of the inaction and ineffectiveness of the Democratic Party leadership to force changes in the government's position, and what we learn and take away from this piece in our continued learning and unlearning work and fight for collective liberation. Last week, Green Party co-leader, Chlöe Swarbrick, was kicked out of Parliament for a week for refusing to withdraw her comments calling for MPs to get “a spine”. Her comments came during a debate on recognising Palestine as a state. She also urged MPs to support her member's bill, which would sanction Israel for its war crimes in Gaza. This comes as Australia, Canada, France, and the United Kingdom have indicated their own plans to recognise a Palestinian state. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese told the media last week that “a two-state solution is humanity's best hope to break the cycle of violence in the Middle East and to bring an end to the conflict, suffering and starvation in Gaza.” Despite stating that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has “lost the plot”, our own Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has refused to commit to recognising a Palestinian state. Caeden spoke to Palestine Solidarity Network Aotearoa co-chair Maher Nazzal about Swarbrick's removal from Parliament and the need for Aotearoa to take action for Palestine

This episode features a passionate and critical discussion of the state of the NALC, with a primary focus on a recent executive council meeting. Corey begins by emphasizing that he is now speaking as the CLC's Director of Education, a deliberate shift to focus exclusively on educational topics, and then dives into the core subject of the episode which is a candid discussion about what he perceives as a constitutional crisis within the union. He criticizes Renfroe for his arrogance, which is damaging and divisive. He highlights an audio recording from a business agent, discussing why they dismissed charges against Renfroe and Barner. Corey then reads the text of the actual charges filed against President Renfroe and Executive Vice President Barner, which included allegations of failing to report official acts, neglecting convention resolutions, failing to initiate arbitration timely, bypassing required membership ratification, and failing to provide a complete report of acts. Corey argues that this was a violation of the constitution, and he has strong criticism for the Executive Council, accusing them of putting themselves before the best interests of the members. Corey ends by reiterating his call for the city letter carriers and the union to make changes and support those advocating for reforms. http://www.fromatoarbitration.com/

The Dean's List with Host Dean Bowen – According to Noem, both grants “undermine America's values and security,” adding that “With a $53.2 billion endowment, Harvard can fund its own chaos — DHS won't." The knockout punch came when Noem suggested that Harvard could also lose its ability to enroll foreign students if it is not in compliance with reporting requirements...
The Easter issue of the Spectator includes two provocative articles exploring aspects of Christianity. Nigel Biggar, Regius professor emeritus of moral theology at Oxford University, now a Conservative peer, celebrates the heroic ‘faithful dissent' of Christian heroes such as Thomas More and Helmuth von Moltke, who lost their lives rather than defend injustice. Meanwhile Spectator columnist Mary Wakefield interviews Roman Williams, former Archbishop of Canterbury. She's inspired by his holiness but depressed by his use of ‘C of E bureaucratese' to uphold liberal orthodoxy on subjects such as gender ideology. But, she says they can share an uncomfortable space together within faith. In this episode of Holy Smoke, Nigel and Mary join Damian Thompson, who asks them: how can Christians embrace ‘faithful dissent' in an era of conformist Christian leaders who parrot the platitudes of secular opinion? Produced by Patrick Gibbons.

If you want to create polarity, attraction, and connection in a relationship, it's up to you to lead. I know, it's not fair!A lot of the men I work with ask, "What about her? When is it her turn to lead?" And women often say, "I want to lead too."Why is this?Nice Guys tend to avoid leading in their relationships because they fear rejection or upsetting their partners. So they hand over the reins. But here's the thing. When a man won't lead, the woman feels she can't trust him. She starts to resent him. At first, she might appreciate his attentiveness, but soon enough, she sees him as having no backbone, making no decisions, always leaving the pressure to her. It's not about control. It's about presence. Strength. The courage to lead with love. And when you do, you'll find that the connection, the attraction, the polarity you crave, it all falls into place.

If you're seeking to slow the passage of time, you should consider a career in political punditry during the zenith of an election season. Jonah's Saturday stand-up revisits a news week that has felt more like a news epoch. He reconsiders Tuesday's vice capades to remind the people what “book banning” really means—outside of a wildly efficient marketing strategy—and opines upon the end of the Port Union Strike and the scourge of collective bargaining. Later in the episode, Jonah pivots to express his deep frustrations with Trump's increasingly dark rhetoric, the damning lack of strategy behind it, and the blame that falls on the hapless normie Republicans capitulating to the crazies. This leaves our intrepid host sick and tired of political malarkey, allowing himself to call out what is supremely stupid and remind the critics that revenge is a dish best served cold.
