Don Patterson always makes sense when talking about Hawkeye football, and that was the case again on Monday as he addressed the quarterback situation on the Hawk Fanatic radio show and podcast. Patterson believes with this being a bye week that Brendan Sullivan and Cade McNamara, assuming their both healthy, should have an open competition in the next two weeks of practice to determine who should start against Maryland on. Today on the Logan Blackman Show we start off by revealing our officially official week nine quarterback prospect rankings, while also making some much needed changes to last week's rankings. We then preview Iowa's Saturday night match-up against Wisconsin, comparing and contrasting Kaleb Johnson and Shonn Greene as well as going over what to expect from Brendan Sullivan in his first start for the Hawkeyes. Sticking with the state of Iowa we also preview Iowa State's home game against Texas Tech and UNI's road trip to Fargo to take on North Dakota State, which has all the makings of what could be an 'email game.' After previewing the rest of the college football slate, and bitching about Penn State vs Ohio State being an 11 am kickoff, we take a look at action from around the NFL, focusing mainly on the Buffalo Bills game against the Miami Dolphins. We discuss our feelings about this game and go over Tua's importance to the success of the Dolphins offense moving forward. Finally, we reveal our favorite trick-or-treat joke of the year. Scott Dochterman from The Athletic and Rob Howe bring you the Hawkeye Hotspot Podcast. This week, they recap Iowa's throttling of Northwestern, discuss Brendan Sullivan's debut as Iowa starter, preview Saturday's Wisconsin game and pick B1G games against the spread.
After witnessing some (former) Wildcat on Wildcat violence on Saturday, we are now looking at a new QB1 in Iowa City this week Brendan Sullivan came on in relief of an injured Cade McNamara to lead Iowa to 35 points in just over 15 minutes. Though we never want to see an injury, McNamara's concussion midway through the second quarter gave the Iowa fans what they have been clamoring for all season - an extended look at former Northwestern starting QB, Brendan Sullivan, who, after some early three and outs, seemed to transform Iowa's offense into an unstoppable juggernaut. Well, before everyone gets ahead of ourselves, join Brian and Zach with a look back at what changed with #1 at QB1 against Northwestern in what turned out to be another "fun" Iowa football game, en route to a third 40-point performance from a maddingly inconsistent Iowa football team. While the competition ramps up again when the Wiscon Ric Flairs Badgers come to town, the Hawkeye 4DT guys find some reasons for optimism and renewed interest in a season that won't meet expectations, but could be a glimpse into the future evolution of the Hawkeyes' new look offense. Today on the Logan Blackman Show we recap Iowa's 40-14 home victory against Northwestern which saw Brendan Sullivan replace Cade McNamara at the quarterback position. We go over the events that led to Sullivan coming in, taking a look at how he did in comparison and discuss whether or not McNamara was actually hurt or if he just got flat out benched. We then take a look at the most recent Heisman odds which sees a new face atop the pile with Boise State's Ashton Jeanty falling after a 'rough' game against UNLV. Moving to the NFL we take a look at Anthony Richardson tapping himself out of the Colts game against the Texans because he was 'too tired.' We go over why that was one of the wildest things we've seen from a quarterback, how that effects his standing within the team, and pick between Richardson and Bryce Young for who we would start our franchise with. We then recap this past weekends action in the NFL, though focus mainly on the Bills boat racing the Seahawks 31-10, as well as looking at the updated MVP odds and discuss why we may have had a change of heart. Finally, we take part in a quickfire mock draft to help decide which quarterbacks will go where in April's draft. Enjoy!
The Hawks chalk another in the Win column this past weekend with a successful Homecoming game against Northwestern. A slow start saw Brendan Sullivan, the hot topic of the past few weeks, come into the game to replace Cade after a hard hit, and bad interception. Sullivan would finish out a quiet 1st half and return as the starter for the 2nd where Iowa exploded for 4 total TDs in quarter 3 and a runaway victory. Sullivan was effective statistically, but maybe more importantly provided juice for the team. We discuss all of this and why Brendan needs to be the guy permanently this season, as well as the Defense getting back to their standard against the Wildcats, and the special teams coming up with some massive plays as well.If you love the show and want to show support, tell your friends! Weekend Recap as Brendan Sullivan and Iowa rolls, Bears collapse, Scott Dochterman talks Hawkeyes
It's always a pleasure to speak with Don Patterson about Hawkeye football, but especially after a victory. That was the case on this Monday with Iowa having defeated Northwestern 40-14 this past Saturday at Kinnick Stadium. Patterson, a former Iowa assistant for 20 seasons under Hayden Fry, looks back at the win over Northwestern and forward to this coming Saturday's game against Wisconsin at Kinnick Stadium. He also breaks down the situation at quarterback where Brendan Sullivan replaced Cade McNamara early in the second quarter against Northwestern and Sullivan would go on to play for the rest of the game.

Another press conference breakdown on tap today, we discuss the focal points of Coach's time at the podium which included questions about the poor defensive play, the tackling in particular, as well as the liability at the CB2 position and the cast of characters at that role trying to fill the void. We obviously talk about QB and more reasons why Cade isn't what we all hoped he might be, and the reason to use Brendan Sullivan more, including some verbiage from coach that may be forecasting an uptick in playing time for Sullivan. We sit down to break down the game from Saturday as the Hawks come back from a halftime deficit to beat Troy 38-21. A game that many walked away from with a weird inconclusive feeling. We discuss why this win doesn't 'feel good' even though the stat sheets say differently. We talk about the blunders on the Defensive side of the ball, where we've seen big plays hurt the Hawks in back to back weeks, and a huge mishap on special teams which is usually the area that Iowa dominates in. In the Tuesday presser KF answered questions from the media about the loss from the weekend, he talked about dealing with setbacks and how to move forward from those, and the danger of dwelling on the past. The theme of the press conference was likening this past weekend to 2002 so we discuss how time, decades, provides a pretty good perspective on how great that season was and how much potential this season still has. We discuss how the RB room may only be a 3 man stable right now with JP outside looking in, and of course how scoring in the redzone was such a vital issue in week 1 and will be a focus moving forward. We also talk best timing to try out Brendan Sullivan and why KF may be more open to a QB switch right now than people think.. all of this and more!If you love the show and want to show support, tell your friends! Bad news out of College Station. Texas A&M tailback Rueben Owens will miss the entire 2024 season after suffering an injury during the weekend. Meanwhile, there might be a quarterback controversy at Iowa. Northwestern transfer Brendan Sullivan might challenge Cade McNamara for the starting job. Colorado coach Deion Sanders held a bizarre press conference Friday that included shutting out the local CBS affiliate for, um, reasons and a random question about Aflac that felt like a plant. Sanders doesn't sound ultra confident after a week of practice, but Andy explains why he wants unhinged press conferences the rest of the way from Coach Prime. Next, Jake Rowe of On3's Dawgs HQ talks Georgia following the first major scrimmage of the preseason. How is the receiver depth after the dismissal of RaRa Thomas? Which tight end(s) will wind up getting the touches that used to go to Brock Bowers? Later, Spencer Holbrook of On3's Lettermen Row talks Ohio State after the Buckeyes' first major preseason scrimmage. Kansas State transfer Will Howard looks like he's got a grip on QB1. Meanwhile, Ryan Day keeps demurring when asked about freshman receiver Jeremiah Smith. That's OK, because everyone else is talking about the former No. 1 overall recruit.
