Host Jonterri Gadson talks with The Sticky creators-showrunners Brian Donovan & Ed Herro (American Housewife, The Neighbors) about their journey to bring the dark comedy caper to the screen, the challenges of shooting on location, the art of pitching, and more.
Guest host Syd Smith is joined by Brian Donovan and Ed Herro, co-creators, The Sticky.
On today's episode, I talk to TV writer Ed Herro. Originally from Madison, Wisconsin, Ed fell in love with improv in middle school. He started doing comedy in college and moved to New York where he performed on house teams in the early days of UCB. Eventually realizing that one couldn't make a living yes and-ing, he became a touring stand-up and then a TV writer, writing on shows like Jeff & Some Aliens, American Housewife, and The Neighbors. Most recently, he created, with his writing partner Brian Donovan, the series The Sticky starring the incredible Margo Martindale, and it is airing now weekly on Amazon Prime! AASI Snowboard Team member Brian Donovan joins us again for Part 2 of The Good, The Great and the Let's Maybe Not Try That Again. In this episode, George and Brian chat about things that are going to help make your lessons more fun, more engaging and help you further your certifications. Brian talks about how instructors are very good at describing the “what” in a lesson. Do this to fix that. Sometimes the student needs the “how” and the “when” to be thoroughly described as well. They then go into assessment and certification tricks and how you can work towards bettering yourself during assessments. Treating and exam you may be conquering the same way you'd conquer teaching a lesson, is a good way to ease your mind. Tune in for much more and learn more at thesnowpros.org.
This is the after-show for Honey Do List, featuring our interview with Julie Bean and Brian Donovan. Julie and Brian share incredible stories about breaking into the industry and how they worked their way up to becoming showrunners. Brian also discusses his time on the legendary Georgetown improv troupe alongside Nick Kroll, John Mulaney, Mike Birbiglia, and Jacqueline Novak, to name a few. There's great practical and honest insight into showrunning in this episode. Plus, you'll find out why every writer should have a post-it note on their computer that says: "Put it in the bathroom." You'll also hear about the development of Honey Do List and how it went from a tik tok video to a TV pilot. We loved chatting with Brian and Julie, and we know you're going to love listening to this one. PSIA-AASI First Chair Podcast host George Thomas introduces us to Brian Donovan, a second-term PSIA-AASI National Team snowboard member based in Vermont. Brian is driven by possibilities and opportunities, and is inspired by the immense talent of the Team. His preparation was all about connecting the work done on-snow with members to the educational foundations that back up our materials.
PSIA-AASI First Chair Podcast host George Thomas catches up with National Team member Brian Donovan and chats about handling and working with high-need students. We've all had students who have never been on snow or who don't understand the sport, or have issues with gear from the get-go. Brian and George talk about working with these students and how to address the attention needed. Brian talks about ways that people skills come into play with this. Use two-way communication and try to understand what hurdle they're facing in their personal experience at that moment. George talks about overcoming the anxieties students may feel during lessons and how to help them through those thoughts and feelings. Brian goes on to talk about how these students present an opportunity to become private lessons or students who learn to love the sport even more and become lifelong enthusiasts or even better, future instructors.

This podcast is part of a miniseries of interviews with speakers from the 2022 annual conference of the Adelphi Genetics Forum - a learned society that aims to promote research and discussion concerning the scientific understanding of human heredity. Formerly known as the Galton Institute, and before that, the Eugenics Education Society, the society has changed its name to the Adelphi Genetics Forum to firmly reject and distance itself from the discredited and damaging ideas of its namesake, Francis Galton – widely viewed as the founder of eugenics.Dr Brian Donovan is a senior research scientist at BSCS Science learning – the oldest science education non-profit organisation in the United States. They have a long history in teaching biology, having been developing biology curricula for over 50 years, and were responsible for reintroducing evolution into American high school biology textbooks. His talk explored how better understanding of genetics and genomics in schools can help to dismantle white supremacist culture. Kat Arney started by asking Brian how his interest in biology education intersects with the topic of eugenics. You can find out more about the Adelphi Genetics Forum, including their grants, awards and publications, at adelphigenetics.org You can check out the rest of this series on the Genetics Unzipped podcast feed – just search for Genetics Unzipped on Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts. One day Brian Donovan has a need for his business and one afternoon he was just being told that Scaling With Systems could probably do it for him. So he just had a new member in a team that is so knowledgeable about the industry and what he knows works. Instantly he was amazed by his new team member and the great work this person did for him!Brian has been behind the scenes, doing equity consulting for 6, 7, & 8 figure brands now for a little over 5 years. He's worked within 250+ businesses, on everything from go-to-market strategy, sales, and lead generation, to building out operating systems to scale up, including his own businesses which he's grown into the 7-figure range. His clients have done over $10,000,000 in revenue in the last 2 years, and he's been coined the secret weapon entrepreneurs call when they want to systemize their business. If this is your first time hearing of him, that's good, because that's just how he likes it. From his first business doing $50k, to his second year in business doing $150k, to his third year in business doing $1.5m in his one company. He believes in creating a life of leverage and abundance through setting up systems. At his company, Virutalassistants.io Brian work with two types of clients: Established high-ticket companies who already have consistent revenue but their team has reached a capacity and they need support. Early-stage high-ticket companies who need to have a team member take over there funnels, email marketing, social media, lead gen, operations, video & design so they can stay in there zone of genius. He's built out processes and systems that allow his company to serve these customers best and they are currently working with high-ticket companies from all over the world.
