Welcome to Episode 53, which starts off slow for once with a little selection of mellow but extremely funky little numbers, before I crank up the pace for some disco house and nu disco mingled in with jazzy stuff, 80s funk and some classic disco. As always it’s a mixed bag, with one eye always firmly on the funk. For hour 2 it’s my pleasure to welcome Belgian DJ and producer Mattijs Van Loy, also known as Mavalo, who brings you a lovely hour of disco flavoured, soulful, housey and exotic beats. Mavalo started DJing in 2015 and quickly scored a residency and festival slots, as well as a set on the main stage of Destino (Pacha Beachclub) in Ibiza. After being a DJ for a couple of years he wanted to explore if he could make his own productions as well. With 'Chocolate' Mavalo had his first official release in June 2020 on ChessBoard Music. Later that year he released his ‘Feet Will Move’ EP on the mighty Midnight Riot Records. Mavalo can be followed on Facebook, Instagram, Bandcamp and Soundcloud. Every month a new mixtape called ‘Recordbox’ is uploaded on Soundcloud in which he presents a fine selection of fresh new tunes. Mavalo doesn't think too much in terms of genres. Far more importantly, the vibe is all that matters to him. However, if a particular style has to be marked, then an energetic mix of Disco House, Jackin' House, Jazzy House and Future Funk would give you a pretty good idea. From Philly Sound, to electro like Cybotron and Kraftwerk, to Chicago house to the NJ sound coming from Movin and the Zanz, Rush, Steely Dan, Run DMC, man. I could go on, so much music. "In 1995, Frankie Knuckles and I, we were both signed to Virgin Records at that time. Frankie was signed to Virgin America, and if I'm not wrong, I was signed to Virgin UK at that time. Anyway, someone from the American division said “Look, we want Grant Nelson to do remix of the track”. Frankie Knuckles was walking with a diva, and I was like “Wow, this is great!”, so I did it. And there was something as I was doing the remixes as well, different about… I can't really tell what it is, no clue… something that kinda switched in my own mind. And I thought “Wow, I feel like something has changed.” I kinda matured as a producer and remixer during this part doing this project. Anyway, the record went out, Frankie told me “Man, I really liked the remix. You killed it!” and it was amazing to hear that from someone like that! Years later, I think maybe 5 or 6 years later, I was with a friend of mine, Brian Tappert from Jazz-N-Groove and Traxsource. We were in my studio, in London, and we were having a conversation about this similar kind of topic, like “When you think you got your break?”, and all that and more. We were having this chat and just said to me “Bro, you know when you got your break” and I was like “What are you talking about?” and he's like “Come here!”. He took me into the studio and pull out a copy of my remix of Frankie Knuckles. He played it and it started at a loop with Diva vocals which says “since then I have been blessed”. And he just played it while looking to me. I was like “Oh my God, I mean, it's true since then I have been blessed!” Since that record came out, that changed everything for me. It was a pretty powerful moment as well. I even told Frankie about that and he loved that as well." - Grant Nelson

2019 Dec Let there be (Serve Chilled) house!   Served Chilled. Pool house grooves with a hint of Soulful Disco. All tracks except two released in 2019.   Continuing the HedKandi homage with a third session of pool/summer vibe. Won’t sweep you of your feet. Yet, should you let the music play, you will find yourself with a smile, a boobin’ head and shoulders and feeling the summer beats engulf you.   Starts with new remix of Barry White’s anthem soulful jam     The pre-millennials will recognize the HedKandi homage. When CDs were still a thing and labels could make money, compilations such as the HK ones were a must and introduce a whole generation to house in all its forms and iterations. We paid for them, discovered tunes and artists curated by the music directors of the labels.   A very different landscape to the A.I. spotified generated playlists which due to the algorithm merely selects a very narrow sample what you are "supposed" to like.   The “Let there be House” series is my attempt to resurrect the genre with current tunes. There will be about 9 to 10 episodes in the “Let there be House” series, hopefully each with its unique flavour. On this weeks episode, we are featuring a special guest mix from house music icon Peter Brown. With more that 10 years of music production and 100+ signature tracks and remixes, Peter Brown is one of the most consistent producers in the industry. His sound is all about classic house roots with deep funky bass-lines and infectious grooves that have been rocking dance floors around the globe. Here is a bit more about Peter Brown: French DJ /Producer based in Barcelona , Peter Brown has already achieved great things since exploding onto the scene in 2004. His sound ranges from Deep House to Tech House and always rocks a musical vibe with production levels that are hard to beat also highly sought after across the globe.  
Constantly impressing his fellow industry leaders his releases have appeared on outstanding labels such as Toolroom, Hotfingers, 1605 MUSIC THERAPY, Spinnin', Ministry of Sound, Zulu Rec, Safe Music, Hall Of Fame, Urbana, Pacha, Housesession, Jungle Funk, Sphera, GuestHouse, Go Deeva and have consistently reached the top echelons on the Beatport and Traxsource charts and have received radio support from some of the most important dance radios in the world like Radio 1 (UK) , Maxima Fm (SP) and Radio FG (FR).  
With drive, determination, and an impressive resume, Peter has played in legendary clubs and festivals throughout the world including INOX Festival(Toulouse/FR), Space(Ibiza), Pacha (Ibiza, Barcelona, Moscow, Sharm el Sheikh), and residencies in the finest clubs in France (Amnesia, Villa-Garden, Open House) and in Spain (City Hall, The Family, Sauvage, C.D.L.C, Opium, Café del Mar BCN). He has also played in some of the hottest venues in Austria, Russia, Brazil, Colombia, Tunisia, UK, Bulgaria, Estonia, Morocco, Egypt, India, Hungary, Poland, Canada, Germany, Holland and Ireland.  
Since 2016 is A&R Manager at Hotfingers Records, Alex Kenji's Label, and  resident dj at the new Cafe Del Mar Club in Barcelona(Spain). 
2017 has been one of the best year so far, with several of his releases hitting the #1 spot on Traxsource and #2 on Beatport. The label GuestHouse put out his “Funkosphere” at the start of the year and his “Dancin” release in the summer, and his perfect blend of old school feel and contempory production was an instant hit with David Morales, Gene Farris, Jamie Lewis, Brian Tappert, DJ PP, David Penn, Mark Knight, David Tort, Todd Terry or Full Intention to name a few. Mr Brown also put quality underground house music on Hotfingers Records, Go Deeva Records , Cube Recordings, and Freakin909 Records this year too. He was voted #20 House Artist Of the Year on Traxsource and #9 Jackin House Artist on Beatport.
